Am I able to receive BTC in my wallet even when the software is not open on my pc? Or does it have to be open?
It doesn't matter if it's Electrum or any other wallet - you don't have to have your wallet opened in order to receive coins. Your wallet will take a moment after launch to synchronise with the network and add missing incoming/outgoing transactions.

When you say touchscreen, you mean the nano ledger x right? I did not thought it would that take long to type the seed but that makes sense.
No, I meant Trezor T. Nano X doesn't have a touchscreen. Would you recommend getting a trezor instead? I did hear it could be bruteforced with trezor when reading about it.
It's a bit complicated and I don't want to derail this thread. Read this one instead.

But on the nano you are basically going up and down the alphabet so it has to take a few minutes right?
Yes, it will take you at least 10 minutes to do it slowly. It takes me merely half of that on a touchscreen on Trezor T. When your device reset, you are sure it was when you did the ledger live update?
The device might reset only during firmware update; not Ledger Live update. There was an issue with a certain update which caused random resets but it has been already fixed.

Someone said over half the word list has been used so more than one thousand has been sold... is that correct? And if so, how do you know this?
3 days ago, Ledger tweeted that there were roughly 800 words left. They will probably tweet again when all of the words will have been already used. Obviously i want to get the discount as well... but how do i know if there are still codes left? Do i basically look at that word list and copy and paste it into discount code until i make a match?
Yes, you won't know unless you try all of the words.

First you need to email them first with the issue right?
Yes, they have to decide if they are going to replace your device. Then they will ask you for shipping details and provide you with a pre-paid shipping label. Do you recall how long was the day turnaround to send your nano x and then receive your replacement?
The support replied for the first time after 2 business days. The next replies were sent under half an hour. DHL delivered the package (from Poland to France) in 2 days and Ledger sent a replacement device on the next day. The whole process took a little bit over a week. Due to coronavirus, it might take some more time.

I didn't even confirm my seed is correct though but again i made sure to check many times it was correct when writing it down. But the moment you download recovery check and type in the entire seed and its correct, then thats safe right?
That's correct. Next time, beside making sure that you have written it down correctly, you should also use 'Recovery Check'. Thoughts on that?
Well, if you confirm that the recovery phrase is correct then there is no need for you to order another device unless you want to have a backup device which is not a bad idea.

Okay so had another hardware wallet to store it at. But if you do not, what would you say is best thing to do?
It depends if you don't want to spend money or time. If you have a spare computer or laptop laying around then you can keep it offline, install Electrum and move your coins there. If you don't want to bother with that then buy another Ledger. Why don't use 'Recovery Check' to see if your seed is correct? You wouldn't have to consider these two options. Just order a new nano ledger s and then type the same seed into it to restore it on new device and ask ledger to replace your dimmed nano ledger for a new one so you have an extra one?
First of all, contact Ledger to see if they are going to replace your device. I am 99% sure that they will ask you to return the device first so you will have to either move your funds or buy another device. If you do this, do you recommend just using the same seed and then resetting the old one multiple times so its reset as oppose to using a brand new seed on the new one?
You don't have to reset your old device multiple times. Once is enough. I would use the old seed if it turned out to be working. There is zero way someone could get access to your nano ledger wallet balance right assuming you put wrong pin three times and reset it?
It is impossible to recover the seed if the device was reseted.

Before you returned your nano x twice... where did you send the btc to during that time? Did you had another hardware wallet or you stored it in like electrum or an exchange? That is what i don't want to do in the time being etc. That is why i wouldn't want to send the nano ledger s first.
I had a Trezor T with the same seed so I didn't move my funds. I have also checked my seed multiple times before. If I didn't have another hardware wallet and made sure that my seed was correct, I would have created a new wallet in Electrum and moved my funds there.
|
|
|
Now if i do this, i should then immediately put wrong pin in the old nano ledger s to wipe it right?
Only if you decide to return it. Contact Ledger first to see if they are going to exchange your device under warranty. And just to confirm, what is the app i download on the nano ledger s to test my seed? Also its safe no matter what right as long as you type in the seed on your nano ledger? A while back i heard about this but was hesistant because typing the seed anywhere got me a bit worried.
The name of the app is 'Recovery Check'. You can follow the steps from this article. It's completely safe. Your seed won't be exposed to the computer.

The thing is if they were to send me a new one... then i send back the old one... i would be fine with that.
I have returned my Nano X twice. Each time they sent me a pre-paid DHL label for the return. I had to return the device before getting a replacement. E-mail Ledger with a detailed description of the problem. Don't forget to take some photos or record a short video so that they could see the problem.

We don't know if you don't have any more accounts. If you see all of your coins then everything is fine. You will be always able to use third party software to access your funds if something goes wrong with Ledger Live in the future.

Wouldnt you want to use a much faster hard drive to run bitcoin on such as a "Samsung 960 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD" or something of that speed? Or would that not be able to connect to the Rasberry Pi? You would think you would want something faster than 100mb/s though, especially for a public node... those usb thumb drives arent very fast...
Such an SSD would be a huge waste of resources. The latest Raspberry Pi has USB 3.0 which allows for speeds up to ~600 MB/s while that drive can perform much better. I don't think if there is any point in buying an expensive SSD for such a budget setup. A cheap HDD is enough.

|
|
Yes thats correct. But first thing i do right now add accounts or install the update?
Either way should be fine. I would update Ledger Live first in case it again forgot all the accounts for some reason.

All I did was connect my Ledger and selected Native account and both accounts appeared. Then I went to Receive on ledger and sent the money.
Apparently, you selected the wrong account after clicking 'Receive'. There is always a pop out which asks you which account should be credited. Should I move the BTC to the Native or should be fine?
No, it will be better for you to pay a slightly higher fee in the future than pay for another transaction right now.
|
|
|
funds are in my wallet so its safe no? Should I move the funds to a new wallet? or its good as it is?
Yes, your funds are safe. There is no need to move them to a native SegWit account since you are not going to have enough inputs in your future transaction to Coinbase to justify an extra transaction right now.
|
|
|
So Native is good? Does it support Sending from Bianance to Ledger and ledger to coinbase pro?
Binance supports sending to bech32 (native SegWit) addresses and you will be able to send your coins to Coinbase from the Ledger without any problems.
|
|
|
So setting up my BTC account on Ledger. Should I choose Segwit or native Segwit. From what I understood it should be Native? I will be sending from Binance to Ledger. Then when I want to sell I will move to Coinbase Pro. Should I change the account? ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif) A native SegWit address will allow you to save a little bit more on the transaction fees than as if you were using a (nested) SegWit address. While you will be able to send your coins to any address, some exchanges and services still don't support sending to native SegWit addresses.
