1121  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Nights Discussion Thread (private games for btctalk members) on: April 26, 2020, 07:24:32 PM
@efialtis

any chance of upping the starting stack in the next series? like 5k or something? it would be nice to be able to splash around a bit more in the early blind levels. i think it would make for some more interesting chip distributions.

anyone have thoughts on that?
1122  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: April 26, 2020, 06:53:32 PM
that's a pisser. out in 13th again. Roll Eyes

had AJ and raised pre, 2 others on the flop. blank flop for me, hit a OESD on the turn and semi-bluffed it, hit an A on the river but ran into 2-pair.

good game!

i won't be making the finals now, would like to think i would have if i hadn't missed 2 games early on. oh well, i promise i'll run hot once or twice in the next series. Wink hasn't happened yet. see you guys next sunday (maybe) for the other tourney, though i might sleep in.

I wish all of you good luck in the championship tournament and I can't wait for the 2nd edition of this series, I'll consider this 1st one the warmup Smiley

+1

sigh, every raised pot i'm involved in has a paired flop, and not in my favor. Tongue

chipping down early here. got 2 loose players directly to my left, and being card dead isn't helping. help me out, poker gods!

almost a half hour in and nobody's been knocked out yet, wow. people are playing a bit more careful today.
Calling me loose lmao.

based on the showdowns i've seen and % flops, somewhat LAG yeah. it's not an insult, just a playing style. Smiley you don't give players much fold equity.

i would be happy to have you to my left if i weren't so card dead. best starting hands after 1 hour playing = A9o and KQo, haven't been able to connect on the flop all day. my luck better turn soon!

I don't mind new players joining in the last game.. I like variance and the unknown and if it means someone may knock out a guy who's ahead of me in the points chase that just makes it even better.

+1. it's just poker, no different than any of the other games. if @Globb0 knocks me out, it's no different than you knocking me out. plus i don't think there is much expected value in paying 1200 chips today for entry tomorrow, given how many runners there will be.

anyway, tournament starting now! good luck all, but especially to me. Tongue

Says I don't have enough chips to join the table is that right?

I though I just needed the couple of hundred do I need to add more ?

the buy-in itself is 1000 chips. hurry up and deposit. Wink

i'd spot you but my account is empty right now.
1126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is why the world needs bitcoin on: April 25, 2020, 09:59:21 PM
Thanks for the feedback guys, and especially about the seedsman tip... At the moment, i'm waiting for seeds from a strain called kompotli, it's flowers should have less than 0.2% THC and up to 25% CBD (altough that's really the maximum, most fenotypes should have around 9%). The <0.2% THC was very important for us, since my wife does not want to be faced with the effects of THC, nor does she want to risk getting pulled over by the police and lose her drivers licence (driving under the influence of THC is illegal, you can lose your drivers licence if you get caught).

If i was informed correctly, the seeds should remain viable for 2 years in my fridge and up to 5 years in my freezer, so i hope i'm all set for the next couple of years... I have enough to plant 7 seeds/year for the next 3 years, ~50% female, 1 or 2 that die, so i should have at least 1 or 2 female plants/year, and i can put most of the flowers in the freezer for up to 5 years anyways.

seeds should be viable a lot longer than that. i've grown 5-10 year old seeds outta the fridge and failure rate is no higher than fresh seeds.

re the 0.2%, that's understandable. under normal (non pandemic) circumstances, seedsman carries lots of < 0.2% THC strains, one of which is still available now. keep them in mind in case this goes awry for you---you may need the shortened grow cycle of an autoflower. i also recommend feminized and autoflower for beginners anyway---no worrying about male vs female (or paying for males) or veg cycle vs flowering cycle. and i hate depending on one strain/brand i haven't run before, usually leads to disappointment. i've got 6 strains going, more coming when i start chopping down this year's early girls.

sourcing industrial hemp directly for infusing your own cbd drops is one other idea. it's required to have similar THC levels to what you're looking for and cooking/infusing is actually pretty easy to do. i'm not sure what the retail market is like on the other side of the atlantic.

anyway, good luck on your grow. it's such an exciting time of year. Wink
1127  Economy / Economics / Re: COVID-19 will pave the way for CBDCs on: April 25, 2020, 09:23:22 PM
there's been lots of mention from central banks about private stablecoins---not coronavirus---as the reason for the accelerated push towards central bank-issued digital currencies.

the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) is the first i have noticed who seems to be citing the coronavirus as the basis for a rapid shift towards such digital payment rails. earlier this month, they released this report: Covid-19, cash, and the future of payments

Quote
Resilient and accessible central bank operated payment infrastructures could quickly become more prominent,  including  retail  central  bank  digital  currencies  (CBDCs).  Such  infrastructures  would  need  to  withstand a large range of shocks, including pandemics and cyber attacks. Auer and Böhme (2020) lay out potential  architectures  for  resilient  CBDC  and  technological  options  allowing  for  broad  acceptability.  In  the context of the current crisis, CBDC would in particular have to be designed allowing for access options for the unbanked and (contact-free) technical interfaces suitable for the whole population.  The pandemic may hence put calls for CBDCs into sharper focus, highlighting the value of having access to diverse means of payments, and the need for any means of payments to be resilient against a broad range of threats.

and last week, this: BIS Innovation Hub Head: COVID-19 Has Exposed The Value of DLT

Quote
“The current discussion on central bank digital currency also comes into sharper focus. Whether Covid-19 will accelerate the demise of cash is an open question. But already, it highlights the value of having access to diverse means of payments, and the need for any means of payments to be resilient against a broad range of threats.”

whether or not the central banks are directly referencing the coronavirus pandemic in their reports, it will probably be a significant accelerating factor moving forward. i'm not sure what that means for bitcoin exactly.
1128  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: April 25, 2020, 08:35:53 PM
So I'm in 9th for best overall average finish correct?

tied with me and JTisCuban. Tongue

this is a close one! bubble time!

Good job wheelz. Ties were discussed a while back it will be the best average finish over all games played.

good point, i wonder if my 2-game handicap might actually help. where i didn't place, my finishes were near the bubble. i'm too lazy to do the math at the moment but my closest ~7 competitors played every game, so by the law of averages i might be in good shape if i tie for last place.

congrats on the win, @Hhampuz! you're still gonna need to crush it tomorrow. Tongue
1129  Economy / Economics / Re: The drying oil on: April 25, 2020, 08:10:28 PM
Car owners are really happy now filling a full tank.  Grin

meh, my car just sits in the driveway. do you have any idea how many trips to the grocery store i can make with one tank of gas? it's in the 100s.

A deal was later made between OPEC and other oil producing countries that to cut down of production causing the supply to reduce, but wasn't enough.

it hasn't even gone into effect yet, and won't for another week. SBA bailout loans are also breathing life into USA drillers, so next month's contract could see some craziness too, given the existing glut of stored oil. i wonder what's gonna happen.
1130  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: April 25, 2020, 07:37:15 PM
Sunday is my day anyway. Watch out tomorrow when my back will probably be to the wall and points will become priority Smiley

same here. Smiley

i'm rooting for @yahoo, @SyGambler, and @Obaming now since them winning today won't really change anything re my rank.

i just took a look at the standings and i'm now tied with @jmac1551 and @JTisCuban with 16 points, so my fate is partially tied to them now. it's gonna come down to the wire!

edit: @SyGambler out in 8th. Undecided

@Newb2379 and @1r0n1c will be strong contenders now if they go deep.
1131  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: April 25, 2020, 07:24:25 PM
ouch, i got knocked out on the points bubble. feeling a bit donk-ish having shoved AT into @Hhampuz betting from early position. but i figured being on the points bubble and with @Hhampuz needing a very strong finish today, and being only 6-handed having played tight all game, i had the right fold equity and pot odds to make it worth it. i'm still not sure it was the wrong move, but meh. that's poker. anyway, ran into AQ and it held.

i'm not in a great position now. i'll probably need to take 4-6th place tomorrow to secure a spot in the championship.

good game all.
1132  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation, printing money and Bitcoin on: April 25, 2020, 06:48:28 PM
It will affect inflation, and it may just cause the debt ceiling to crush the system at some point later on, forcing them to print even more than they should. But for NOW, the here and now, it's not going to destroy the fiat system that Bitcoiners hope for. This system is broken, rotten to the core, swathed in band-aids, but there's too much at stake and too much invested for its players to just give up so soon.

and when the house of cards does finally come crashing down (years from now?) the recovery won't be simple or orderly. it probably won't be USD crashing to zero one day, and all value rushing into BTC simultaneously. markets are not rational. there could be absolute chaos for a while. i don't think the world's top reserve currency has ever hyperinflated before, has it? so we could see lots of confusion re price discovery.

bitcoin will rise like a phoenix from the ashes, but i have a feeling it won't play out the way many bitcoin investors expect.
1133  Economy / Economics / Re: Oh look! Another covid thread..... on: April 25, 2020, 06:10:17 PM
I'm in a weird position. Not qualified for anything in my resident country, nor for the aid back home because I don't live there. If I lose my income, there is no fallback plan, I already have seen paycuts, and many of those like me are in deep, deep trouble. So I look around and see people depressed by cabin fever, depressed by lack of contact, but I'm instead squeezing so much more work into my hours in anticipation of shit getting worse. It's not a complaint or a rant. I just wonder how many are like me. Making sure we get every bit of income we can now because it will dry up even more.

that's the norm IMO. only a minority is working from home and not feeling any economic pinch from this. i'm slightly annoyed by the "cabin fever" crowd. it must be nice if your worst problem is being bored at home! first world problems, as they say.
1134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Masterbating 2.0 Emails, don’t fall for the trap. on: April 24, 2020, 09:34:08 AM
unless you're someone important. public official, candidate for office, CEO of a fortune 500 company etc. then that shit will come back to bite you. Wink
Unless you pull of a Bill Clinton, where he got even more popular after all that Lewinsky nonsense.

sure, he was the cool, weed smoking, sax playing dude getting head from staffers. but getting caught beating off on webcam is a much worse look. imagine having your o-face plastered all over the internet. there's no recovering your dignity after that. they'll be making memes about you. Cheesy

i'm just saying, if you ever run for office and start gaining some traction, and you haven't been careful, expect those pictures to surface, or to be blackmailed with them. it's a brave new world....

You are too nice...should work more on your trash talk Smiley

Above should have been worded something like: "Look out bitches I am coming hard at you this weekend to take my rightful place at finals"
Well, yeah, as organizer, I try to behave here... You guys will see the real me at the tables! (efialtis means nightmare and I promise not only youcantwin, youcantsleep afterwards!)...  Cool

how'd you sleep after that KK v QQ cooler last game? go ahead and call my shove with 33 again, see what happens. Cool

look out bitches, i'm coming hard at you this weekend! Tongue
1136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is why the world needs bitcoin on: April 24, 2020, 08:39:53 AM
After 8 days, the seller finally admitted he got my money, but at that time it was thursday, and he only sends items on monday and wednesday.
My seeds got shipped on the 20th, but the post is slooooow as hell.
In a little while, i'll have missed the planting window.

If i would have used bitcoin as a payment system, i would have won 8 freaking days. I would have payed the bloke, and 1 hour later he would have had a funding transaction that was confirmed several times, and he could have sent me the stuff i bought.
I don't like banks.

i don't blame ya for choosing a reversible method. there's been a lot of shady seed resellers over the years. you'd be singing a different tune if you sent coins and then he disappeared.

the only seed distributor i trust anymore is seedsman. as long as they are in business, i won't go anywhere else. they take bitcoin and paying with bitcoin also yields 15-25% discounts and extra freebies. free shipping in europe. very effecting stealth packaging.

if you're ever worried about missing the planting window, look into autoflowers. you'll be looking at full flowers 60 days from seed. stock is low at seedsman right now because of the lockdown but they still have a couple 30:1 cbd:thc auto-fem strains if you're curious: https://www.seedsman.com/en/cannabis-seeds/variety/high-cbd/filter/seeds_flowering_type-autoflowering

just some food for thought. Tongue
1137  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your thought during ECQ on: April 24, 2020, 07:44:16 AM
The fact is, that it is quite possible that there is no possible vaccines, and it will remain a sickness like the Flu, which is "uncurable" but most people pass through it without serious conditions.

but there's a flu vaccine, which according to a 2012 meta-analysis was effective 67% of the time. the seasonal flu mutates ~4 times as fast as this coronavirus too, which gives some hope of long lasting herd immunity after a vaccine is found.
https://www.livescience.com/coronavirus-mutation-rate.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_vaccine#Medical_uses

Since studies show that people develop immunity after getting cured, they want the majority of the population to have this immunity, however, there is no hard evidence for how long we keep this immunity, temporary or permanent.

what studies? i still don't see anything. i'm dying for info about this since i already had it. the news keeps fearmongering about these south korean cases where recovered people are testing positive again.
1138  Economy / Economics / Re: Best Free Site for Global Market Data/Charts? Beginner friendly & Ease of Use? on: April 24, 2020, 07:23:28 AM
Firstly in the Whole World are there just 5 Main Markets?

these are what i would consider the main asset classes:

-equities (includes mutual funds and arguably traditional ETFs)
-bonds
-cash equivalents
-real estate
-commodities
-cryptocurrencies
-derivatives (includes futures and leveraged/inverse ETFs)
-alternative investment assets (includes art, collectibles, private equity, hedge funds etc)

Which one does Real Estate market fall under?

it's in its own class. it can't be considered a commodity because commodities must be fungible/interchangeable, which real estate most certainly is not. sometimes people group real estate under the "alternative investment asset" umbrella.

Any other good sites worth mentioning?
Trading view have pro and basic options but the basic free tier is enough for what you'd need starting out.

+1 for tradingview. it has all the symbols you could ask for. the free account is sorta limiting though---they won't let you save more than 1 chart, so you have to keep switching symbols to track different markets. https://www.tradingview.com/gopro/#compare-plans
1139  Other / Off-topic / Re: What is your thought during ECQ on: April 24, 2020, 06:55:32 AM
What article?
Can you direct us to that please?
Maybe, we will have an idea of how you are connecting the chip with the virus which is happening now.

he's talking about one of the bill gates vaccine conspiracy theories, which started with a crazy youtube video and snowballed into fox news coverage: https://www.mediamatters.org/coronavirus-covid-19/bill-gates-coronavirus-conspiracy-theory-spread-social-media-and-then-fox-news

Quote
A review by Media Matters found that the conspiracy theory first seemed to gain traction around March 17, when a YouTube video about the virus mischaracterized Gates’ work to develop trackable vaccine data as “implanting everybody with a global ID” and compared it to tattoos on Holocaust victims. The video received more than 120,000 views. On that same day, conspiracy theory outlet Infowars published a piece and video of an Infowars host suggesting Gates was using the situation to “reduce the world’s population,” citing the invisible ink, and tied it to claiming the government would give out a “color-coded wristband that will be used for traveling Americans during an impending COVID-19 lockdown.”

my advice for the OP is to stop drinking the kool-aid. not that there aren't good reasons to avoid hastily researched vaccines. if a coronavirus vaccine comes out in 1-2 years time, they are breaking all manner of safety and efficacy protocols. the quickest developed vaccine in history (mumps) took 4 years. so i'll be happy to let other people be the guinea pigs on this one, but not because i'm worried about microchip implants.
1140  Economy / Economics / Re: returning to normal on: April 24, 2020, 06:04:54 AM
bad news for those hoping to get back to normal.

Quote
President Donald Trump said Thursday that his administration may extend its national social distancing guidelines until early in the summer or later.

“We may, and we may go beyond that,”  Trump said at a White House press briefing when asked if the federal guidelines would need to be extended at least until the start of summer.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/23/coronavirus-trump-may-extend-social-distancing-guidelines-to-early-summer.html

start of summer = june 20. and possibly beyond that. Shocked

this is bonkers. the CDC is already talking about the next wave of coronavirus in fall/winter. can you imagine reopening in august only to lockdown again in november?
