i am very bullish on this ability to the practical application of COINS,,

I am very excited about this coin.

I do not think the devs should work for free. But I dont think you are anyway.

1. do you think the miners should work for fee. they are not gauranteed income but they have real and immediate associated costs. equipement and electricity.
-solominer of bitcoin with readily available techonology can not in all likelyhood manufacture a single bitcoin in one persons lifetime. But participating in mining, that solo miner is securing the network and provides real benefit.

2. A large percent of zero is zero. Meaning, that if you follow your current proposed income path, you will likely alianate miners. Your coin may fail. A very good example, is Monero. The current devs are not even the ones that brought the coin to the community. The original dev of Monero is not involved with the project. However, due to percieved fairness, Monero is gaining popularity and interest. It has surpassed in hashrate of bytecoin the original cryptonight coin. The current developers were mining from the very early days. They have thousands of coins. As such, they have a real interest in having their coin succeed. As we are all speculating and therefore on the subject on income. Consider that Monero reaches the same value of bitcoin. 500 dollars per coin whould translate for some millions, those that were mining early on would be millionairs.  Hence the hesitation, that ongoing percentage would be to high for continued work.

consider this for monero. if in the first year 1 million coins are generated. even at 3 percent and if value is 500 dollars you are looking at 15 million dollars of income. Its not that I do not think you do not deserve it or your work does not merit this. However, I think I am putting to words what everyone is hesitant about.

I like the bounty idea.

Im now trying to sync the blockchain but its taking a while.

I have a question - on the setup video on monero.cc it says you choose your wallet name? How is it I then see 95 character addresses?

The coin is looking promising - cant wait for the pools to be setup as my cpu is an i3 and I shouldnt imagine Ill be getting much with the hash. GPU mining will be good.

I think a lot of people feel that the train has left the station. there are many things you could do.
1. buy monero on exchange
2. get a better computer
3. mine with what you have and be patient.

3 week old currency. you are getting in on the ground floor. Some questions here or concerns can be read from the original post.
1. the current devs are not the devs of the technology. it is adopted from Bytecoin. Bytecoin (go to bytecoin.org) is the first implementation of cryptonight developed by a seperate organization that is called cryptonote.
2. apparently from the anonymous developers (we do not know who they are. There were/are some rumors for possible cicada 3301 connection but this is not confirmed. Please review Bytecoin thread for this. There are two bytecoin threads (one is cryptonight algorithm, the other is a bitcoin clone. )
3. totally new tech and things have to be build from the ground up. Original work for pools, exchanges and such.
4. This is not a litecoin, bitcoin clone. This is new algorithm called cryptonight and intended to be cpu only. (some think it may be cracked in future, to this no one currently invloved knows. the current devs are volunteers.
5. As this is not a GPU coin, and its intention is mass adoption ( i am gathering this from the developers mission statement), then hopefully no gpu will be able to adopt it.

from what little I understand, gpus (asics) can do simple tasks repetitively very well. CPU are poor at this, however CPU's perform complex tasks very well and gpu (asics) can not. This technology takes advantage of the uniqueness of cpu.

to others that are more knowledgeable please correct above post.

Where are you guys from ? Every name of your project sound horrible to an english speaking person !

What was your suggestion?

It needs a lasting name like, "Legacy [LGCY]" or something along those lines. I agree the name isnt the greatest and people will pass it on that alone.

I dont think something lasting is the goal. we are not naming a car.
I think something that lends itself for daily use and can be considered as money.

something that sounds like money. something that easy to pronounce. 2 syllables at most is best. tolerable is three.
this is money. you shouldnt try to romantasize the name too much.

1125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR]Boolberry[ANONYMITY&UNLINKABILITY|PoW-BCHAIN-BASED](ex HoneyPenny) on: May 13, 2014, 10:56:03 PM
unfortunately it is hard to vote for name because if there is consensus then the name be taken by cybesquaters.

I think there are a lot of names that were recommended. some with rational.
I say stay away from implied meaning regarding anonymous/liberty.

1. moni
2. eNote
3. Jacks
4. cNote
5. Pretium
6. Tare

try using these in a sentence where you are buying something

that will be 15 monies
that will be 75 enotes
I will take one for a jack
I cant believe that costs 200 cnotes
I bough my car for 15 hundred pretiums
that apple will be 2 and a half tares

Testnet coin has been started here:
https://github.com/LucasJones/testnotecoin

This genesis block, etc will eventually be integrated into the main wallet under a --testnet feature

what is testnet coin ?

crypto

this is a good project. I have been following closely.
there is already some dissent in Monero also a very good coin. It is possible that you will bring about a unique coin that carries forward in a unique way the work cryptonote has done. and because of this, you can surpass monero.

HoneyPenny Boolberry have childish name about them. Perhapse this is cultural and you see nothing wrong with the name, but it is hard for others outside your culture to understand and accept. It is very nice that you would insert your culture into your project but a better name will do.

this is a unique coin. a good coin.
it is not necessary to name the coin anonymous, no name coin or some other variation of anonymous, liberty.

there were many good names offered. This one, boolberry is actually worse than honeypenny.

regarding your point about taxes and rewarding developers. I also can not think of one coin that has a premine, instamine that has been trully successful.
have you thought about a proof of stake sort of incentive. Miners vote for developers and via sending coins to the developers of choice. special wallet that generates 2 percent interest of coins in the wallet so long as developer active. winner takes all coins. meaning if there are two competing developers then the loser coins go to winning developer.

as you are the original developer, you can set miners to send coin to this special wallet at 2.5% of coins as there are no pools yet and that seems to be standard fee for a pool. have this go for 90 days. then set miners stop sending coins and have it done as choice for voting purposes.

I'm trying to use the .bat file so I changed the "wallet.bin" into my "myfilename.bin", the thing is when I launch the bat file, it doesnt let me copy paste my passwords.

Did you guys solve this ? I

If your trying to copy paste into simpleminer.exe copy what you want then click on the simple miner window. Then press alt + space bar and select edit then paste.

I want to copy past into simplewallet.exe after launching the .bat file. I've tried what you advised but it just autoquits the window, like my password was wrong.

try loading up a cmd window and then running the bat file that way. It's possible that you have an error in your script that is causing the program to quit. This will keep the window open after the command fails to run so you might be able to solve the problem.

in command line
type  cd c:\folder_location_of_bitmonerod                   then press enter
then
type simplewallet --wallet-file=myfilename.bin               then press enter
at this time it should ask you to type your password. if your password is right, it should open it. if your password is wrong then you may have miss typed our password.

You know how I know this coin will go places? Compared to all the new altcoin drivel out there, this one is:

   a) based upon a non-bitcoin codebase
   b) using a completely foreign mining system that encourages users to try and optimize for efficiency
   c) a code structure so different that no other exchange except https://cryptonote.exchange.to has actually been able to get the coin up for trading
   d) has an irregularly high amount of hero members actively contributing to this thread

I've been mining it all night (after reading about it last night) and I still haven't hit a block. Oh well, I will keep trying. In the meantime, I think I may buy a few on the exchange.

its now taking me 1 week to find a block at a 28 h. smooth says be patient and he is right. We live in a modern world however, and we pace infront of the microwave so, we are exercising attributes not stressed in modern society.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 13, 2014, 01:40:18 PM
I am newbie about this, it is quite different from other wallets.
Can someone walk me through the wallet set up?  step by step please
I just downloaded from https://mega.co.nz/#!LZIGlI7Z!poO1z7XIFIYkMLLH9Y82Uo055Ov-IgEVVdrItHR5h78
double click simplewallet.exe
it ask me about " wallet file name"
what should I do? Thanks,

You want to start it with the batch file.

Basically open a notepad document and copy and paste this into it :

@echo off

tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq bitmonerod.exe" 2>NUL | find /I /N "bitmonerod.exe">NUL
if not %ERRORLEVEL% == 0 (
  echo Starting node...
  start /MIN bitmonerod.exe
) else (
  echo Node already started.
)

tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq simplewallet.exe" 2>NUL | find /I /N "simplewallet.exe">NUL
if not %ERRORLEVEL% == 0 (
  if exist wallet.bin.keys (
    echo Starting previous wallet...
    start simplewallet.exe --wallet wallet.bin
  ) else (
    echo Starting new wallet...
    start simplewallet.exe --generate-new-wallet wallet.bin
  )
) else (
  echo Wallet already started.
)

Then click save as.

Save it in the same folder you have simplewallet.exe etc but save it as a .bat.

eg. start.bat

You should then be able to double click that batch file and it will open the wallet and ask for a password. Enter this and remember it and your done.

to devs/moderators

can this batch be included in the dropbox download.
can you copy paste the readme file from bytecoin

1132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Boolberry monetization poll on: May 13, 2014, 12:43:16 PM
will we be able to change to whom the taxes go too. some concerns
1. should you stop working will you still get the 5 percent or less.
2. can the less be zero
3. if another develper takes your place will you still collect the 5 percent or less and the new developer get additional 5 percent or less taxes. effectively now 10 percent at most

1133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 13, 2014, 01:14:28 AM
Bitmonero and Monero are the same thing then? TFT is clearly not on board. He ignores any questions about Monero.

There is one and only one coin, formerly called Bitmonero, now called Monero. There was a community vote in favor (despite likely ballot stuffing against). All of the major stakeholders at the time agreed with the rename, including TFT.

The code base is still called bitmonero. There is no reason to rename it, though we certainly could have if we really wanted to.

TFT said he he is sentimental about the Bitmonero name, which I can understand, so I don't think there is any malice or harm in him continuing to use it. He just posted the nice hash rate chart on here using the old name. Obviously he understands that they are one and the same coin.

Would it not suppress confusion if the Monero code base was renamed Monero?  I'n not involved in politics behind things but have some understanding.  People without any knowledge will just be confused.  Now there are too many threads.  Is it Bitmonero or Monero?  People say Monero but all code uses Bitmonero.  Many people confused.  It's bad for Monero.  I think it's problem.

i agree with this

so sorry to appear petty. but please keep op updated regarding launch and testnet.
if you follow at all monero, this was a real problem for monero at first. result is continued confusion to some degree.
it would certainly keep confusion down and adoption high and overal increase satisfaction.

thanks.

Should the official website really bother itself with the price of MRO?
yes
definately.
1136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 12, 2014, 04:28:29 PM
BCN, BMR or MRO? Kind of confusing at this point. Do any of these have a solid developer?
bcn: bytecoin. has developer/anonymous. was mined for 2 years do not know if it is widely used in deep web or not though not likely per some reasoned posts on this thread. please review. first implementation of cryptonight. bcn thread is active.
bmr/mro: same coin. name changed to bitmonero to monero. voluntary devs. active.
1137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BMR] Bitmonero - a new coin based on CryptoNote technology - LAUNCHED on: May 12, 2014, 12:04:59 PM
Ok I started mining a few days ago and got a block today. But I don't even know if I'm mining BMR or MRO?! How can I tell?
Is there anywhere to check balance for an address with either of these 2 coins?!

Coming from BTC/LTC/PPC etc I'm quite interested in MRO due to the fresh codebase and new proof of work and more anonymous transactions. But the marketing for these coins is ridiculous... I only found out that there were 2 'monero' coins days after beginning to mine.... Why aren't there messages on either site about the other's existence and explaining what it means?

[Edit] is it only a soft fork (same blockchain) at the moment? [/Edit]

as stated in my post about 4 up thread and in many other places and alluded to by the post right before yours

bitmonero is one and the same as monero.
name change requested by the community. no difference as of now.
a fork will likely come in the future but I like you, would like that clearly stated with days in advance notice so that there is no confusion. like you I am confused easily.
1138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 12, 2014, 11:55:36 AM
IMO Bitmonero is the first clean launch, and I still didn't get why Monero is doing well and have chances to exist

there are many reasons why. Please read posts. summary below
1. tft did not communicate well.
2. tft created a coin with some problems. no test before launch.
3. bitmonero and monero are the exact same coin right now and have been
4. tft was ok with name change as the community that was present at that time did not like it
5. initial launch of bitmonero (same as monero) had difficulties. it simply a direct clone of bcn. some changes that were made by tft may have continued problems and are currently being worked on by current devs.
emission curve -not what was promised by tft.  block confirmation time of 1 minute instead of two minutes, no gui at launch, no block explorer at launch, no pools at launch.

Why is the medium of exchange bitcoin. Is there a way to also include dollars.
