11202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: January 02, 2016, 04:53:24 PM
It was an older wallet that doesn't appear to have a seed but I could be wrong.  Still checking.

Other news:  My node seems rock solid with the 0.9 release.

Bruteforcing only works if you know 90-99% of the password already and it is not too complex. Hopefully you will find your mnemonic seed or remember your password.

I am pretty sure I remember the base password so I think a bruteforce shouldn't take to long if I can find something that will do it.

If you are looking for more resources talking about bitcoin being not anonymous, you can have a look here: http://www.bitcoinisnotanonymous.com/

Nice link

many people lost coins due to a security vulnerability already.

Read about it here: https://forum.cryptonote.org/viewtopic.php?p=909

edit to add: i remember when this attack happened, nobody lost any coins. so while there was an attack, this statement is untrue.

one more thing: are you familiar with these research papers? https://lab.getmonero.org/

Actually his link even though not supporting his trollish lies does show how well the community and Devs responded. Smiley

LOL, How things have changed.

I don't know, I personally find it rather disconcerting if users in the chain can be identified. For example, it wouldn't be enough for me to simply get bitcoins at an exchange, send them to a random address, and then use them from that point on. Your identity would still be linked. However, given the public nature of the transactions, I'm not sure if there is any way around this.

I'm sure somebody somewhere would/will be happy to sell you bitcoins anonymously; just put cash and a bitcoin receiving address in an envelope and mail it.  The exchange (who you'd have to trust to actually send you the coins) takes the cash and send coins to the address.  They have no idea who you are, and your identity isn't linked to the coins.

Well, it isn't linked to the coins until you forget to turn on TOR or I2P before spending coins on something illegal.  Or you remain completely and utterly anonymous right up until you spend coins on something physical and have it shipped to your home address.  Or you arrange to have contraband "dead dropped" somewhere, and you get arrested when you go to pick it up.

None of which have anything to do with Bitcoins, and all of which seem to me to be more likely ways of getting into trouble than somebody managing to figure out that "transaction for purchase of illegal stuff" is linked to "Gavin purchased a bunch of Bitcoins from Bobby's Discount Bitcoin Emporium" last year.

He is trolling lol

TrueCryptonaire actually is one of my favorite Monero trolls. Transparent, yes but he is still funny at times.

It is fun to look at his history and record the dates that marked his change from bull to bear and vise versa (pattern repeats several times).

Very true, Completely transparent, has no impact on market and amusing! Who could ask for moar! Cheesy

Any monero devs like to comment on this article?  Come on, show us how this is totally wrong.  Make sure to use facts.  Uhh ohh....

What NSA created Cryptonote for:

https://criticl.me/post/what-nsa-created-cryptonote-2292

"...me and a few of my fellow researchers looked at ..."

They did not look at a 5th-grade English grammar text.

Credibility broken.

Do you think their native tongue is maybe another language than English?  Also one small error does not invalidate all their claims.  As I have said many times already, get someone to review the code, and prove it doesn't have backdoors.  Stop grasping at anything you can to defend monero.  When that is done, I'll agree it is secure.  Until then, I'll continue to question, as any intelligent human would. If it is secure, then prove it.  DASH has been audited by experts, and has been shown to have a good security model.

HAHAHA, you just lost all credibility with this post.

All alts except monero green on polo...  Dash up 20% in the last 48h.
Perfect time to push the price up 10-20%...

Pumpers not welcomed here.

I agree. Monero is probably the only coin in the universe which is not meant to be a mere pump and dump coin. All the other coins are just pump and dump schemes while this is the only honest coin.

You must be holding. Smiley

Now this is Ad-Hominem! Cheesy

I have not held XMR for over a year now. I still feel it's the best alt atm. I do watch promising new tech which I am hoping this will actually be. I guess I should remove the XMR address so idiots don't auto think I'm affiliated.

Please, remove zanzibar's quote from your post or I'll have to delete the latter, because thread moderators don't have EDIT option.

Done.

@Hueristic, deleted your post for ad hominem.

That was not Ad-Hominem, it was an observation. Doesn't matter. I have no faith in you people. Your methods are that of scammers. And that is another observation not an attack.

No it does not. That is a stupid way to measure as it would make Euros themselves the best store of value. Fiat currencies lose value really quickly because they are diluted. Look up the prices of things in the US in 1900 and you'll see.

This is a really fun website: http://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/payentitlements/military-pay-charts.html

Check out historic pay for US military members throughout the years.  You'll see that as early as 1995, military members with 10 years of experience were being given a basic pay of as little as $13,000 a year.  The further you go back, the more ridiculous the inflation becomes evident.  You can see back in 1970 how someone with significant rank and experience would only get a basic pay of about $500 a month!

I doubt those charts take into account bah allowance nor clothing allowance if offbase or the fact that all housing and food is supplied.

I think this move is the most important of the game but I may just be dense. Smiley
