11364  Other / Meta / Re: Stats question - Females in Bitcointalk? on: August 25, 2019, 03:50:35 PM
First of all, the correct word is "women". I don't know if English is your native language, but you should note that "female" is most commonly used as an adjective, not a noun, and in English it is generally impolite to refer to people with a bare adjective.

Second, many prominent members (myself included) have a tendency to provoke confusion in others concerning their gender(s). Lauda's gender, for example, is known with certainty by only 3 people, and they all disagree on what it is. So don't put too much faith in the accuracy of anyone's claims. Smiley

If you open your profile link you can see word female written in English
Is this 'correct' or not ?

let's not get nit-picky in this forum please

Regarding active users, I don't want to open new topic,
and I don't know if they are using it to create fake activity,
but my question is:

 - What to do with fake Questions asked by newbie members? (usually topics)
   1. Answer them
   2. Ignore them
   3. Report them

Congrats on listing in Chrome webstore.
I am testing it and I will report if I find any bugs.

Hope to see it in Firefox extension soon also

EDIT:
I found one BUG:
Not being able to use this option for posts when extension is enabled

When I click on + it is giving me blank screen.
It should be like this:

I still DO NOT recommend that option, both for privacy and safety reasons.
Minimum that could happen is servers outage and websites not working...oh wait that happened recently ...

I agree that we should be extremely cautious with cryptocurrency, but not extremely paranoid. Your attitude is that in general we should not use crypto exchanges because of "privacy and safety reasons", but in that case how people would trade with crypto?

OP is has an account on Coinbase, and this means that he is done KYC there, and probably he bought coins there - based on that I do not see any problem for the funds to be transferred there for some short time.

Small advice about quotations, you can edit / remove part of quote. This way you can quote only parts that are meant for you, and not to other member (in case of multi-quote).

If I had option to choose, I would ALWAYS choose Non-custodial wallet,
and I don't find that to be 'extremely paranoid' at all.

We are NOT talking about trading here, we are talking about moving coins to other wallets.

PS
Thanks for advice
11369  Other / Meta / Re: Stats question - Females in Bitcointalk? on: August 25, 2019, 10:47:43 AM
Take a step back and answer "why" you want to know?

Taking two steps back - because I want to see more active females in bitcointak forum and bitcoin space.
They can be the key for future wider adoption.

And it's only for fun...no super specific reason, no secret agenda and no hidden plan

However, most of the users I know and see active are males,
but maybe you can show me some good active female members that I missed Wink

I think nobody will post publicly about any active female on this forum, most of them did not even select gender option because they want to be anonymous. But I can say you that we have few very active and high ranked female on forum, you just need to pay more attention and you will surely notice them Wink

Very good. I am happy to hear this and I will keep my eyes open for sure  Shocked
11370  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: losing recovery phrases but not losing hope on: August 25, 2019, 10:23:42 AM
dkbit98, Electrum is good choice for transfering BTC if user is have clean PC, and if he know how to verify Electrum files. Even some other Electrum forks are safe if you using offical wallets, but what if OP is have more then just BTC - he then need to move all altcoins somewhere.

Online wallets / exchanges like Coinbase or Binance should be no place for long-term storage, but for short-term storage i see no problem not using them. This solution or any trusted desktop wallet is something I would do to fix this problem.

Thank you so much for the feedback; it's all very stressful.
I have the pin to login cannot find the passphrase (24 words). I'm wondering if both wallets can be connected via usb at the same time when I transfer from one wallet to another, or if both need to be connected at the same time? The transfer should be straight forward, right? or is there anything else I should be aware of? I will be posting updates when the new wallet arrives.

When you say both wallets, you think on your Trezor and for example Electrum? There is not problem to have them both online in same time, just click on receive tab in Electrum -> copy address -> paste in Trezor -> double check that address is match on both wallets.

In case you are thinking on two Trezors in same time on same PC, this would not probably work - but I am o not sure about that. What you need to do is generate new seed on new Trezor and get receive address from them. Then just connect old Trezor and send coins to that address, you will see that transaction on new Trezor instantly, but it will take some time for confirmation (depending on fee you set&network congestion).

I still DO NOT recommend that option, both for privacy and safety reasons.
Minimum that could happen is servers outage and websites not working...oh wait that happened recently ...

If he has other shitcoins he can download Coinomi wallet that have most of them,
and it is available for Desktop and Mobile.
Or some other alternative wallets (Atomic...)

You really should leave well enough alone.  Give women your respect and more importantly their right to privacy.

 Roll Eyes   Shocked

No women disrespecting in my post or in my life.

I appreciate you switch on to you altaccount just to say this wise words

I am guessing the scrapers can do it or not, just tagging @LoyceV and @DdmrDdmr regarding this.
I don't want to scrape a couple of million profiles just to count girls Tongue
But there's this: Open scraped data of all the users - SQL Lite DB - 2.481.270 users

Thanks

Thanks guys.
I am not looking for exact data, since forum gender selection is optional.

However, most of the users I know and see active are males,
but maybe you can show me some good active female members that I missed Wink

I would like to see more of them for sure
11373  Other / Archival / Re: Huawei Chinese version of Libra ? on: August 25, 2019, 07:58:44 AM
With the ongoing trade war between China and the United States getting worse, I don't expect China to allow Libra in its territory. The problem with Libra is that it is just a digital version of the United States Dollar. I don't think that China will allow the circulation of USD or its equivalent in its territory, as it can weaken the national currency (Chinese Yuan).

Yeah, there is NO WAY Libra will be allowed in China 100%.
They are using wall for all other services world is using like Youtube and Facebook... why would Libra be any different.
They have their own version of Facebook and Youtube at this moment.
The will Have their own 'Libra clone' also

I have one question for Stats experts and nerds  Grin

- Do we know how many Females are in Bitcointalk community?
With that option selected in Profile settings.

Is there any way to know this or not?

Just download fresh copy of Electrum wallet for desktop:  https://bitcoin.org/en/wallets/desktop/windows/electrum/
SAVE YOUR NEW SEED / PRIVATE KEY.
Write it on paper and BACKUP.

Generate address and copy it.
Send Bitcoin from Trezor to this new address.

Confirm that you received Bitcoin in new address in Electrum.

You are done.

Now you can reset Trezor (wipe device) and generate new seed/address/pass

SAVE YOUR NEW SEED / PRIVATE KEY.
Write it on paper and BACKUP.

11376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banks are offering Negative interest rates! will this help BTC on: August 24, 2019, 07:51:17 PM
philipma, here in Brazil we have a great economist who are passionate about BTC, and they have a huge knowledge about market (he worked in a lot of countries), and I'm hearing about this some time ago

This is not going to end well, we are in a time where money is abundant, easy loans, companies that not have profits are worthing billions, and this is very bad, this is not a healthy market
We should be prepared for a crisis, and this is not conspiration, we can see in the news about US vs China, petroleum, Brexit and etc

Let's see how BTC will react to this, if people will trust in cryptos and the whole idea of decentralization instead of governments and banks

I hope more people will wake up and see that whole world is one big Financial Titanic that is going down.
We can be sure that 'big restart' will happen sooner or later, and after that crypto can be safe harbor for people.

Otherwise we can see nightmare with centralized digital state coins like China and FED are making now.

You forgot to add "Gold back stablecoins, as we all know gold is also low volatility and stable asset class and if we compare the price trend year after year gold prices is uptrend and breaking record highs to its good to hold and use too. Gold stable coins (Gold) an ERC20 token GOLD is backed by physical gold and it's price is pegged to the market price of gold. im using fiat backed stablecoins too and so far its good.

I know about GOLD token and it is one of the idea I do like,
and I think we talked about it in this topic.
Only thing about it is that if you hold it on your EHT wallet,
every day you will get 1 transaction out as a service fee,
so you should be prepared for it if you are going to use it.
