"Learned scholars"? I know you are an islamaphobia. They don't even follow Islamic rules and claim they are Muslims which is stupic. Many of them aren't even "extremists" like you claim and also there are non-Muslins too. They don't have enough knowledge on Islam. Keep spreading false things to spread hatred. Undecided

You are the one that quoted Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi .

All I did was bring in some other of his writings.

The point is that they defend the burning alive of the prisoner with Islamic teachings.  It's right there, spelled out.

We can't call them "extremists" because they don't know anything about Islam and don't follow most rules of Islam. It is better to call them "n00bs". Roll Eyes

PLease do not disgrace the honorable word Noobs/n00bs with Isis.

You are saying ISIS is worst than "n00bs", right? I loved it! Cheesy

Noobs here abouts means someone who is a beginner at something.  Usually a computer game.

No only Muslims but ISIS hire non-Muslims too. They must have good financial help to do all these.

Why should any non-Muslim join ISIS, as the main aim of the organization is the extermination of non-Muslims? Some converts from other religions might have joined ISIS (especially the case with recruits from various European nations such as France and Germany). But I don't think that any religious Christian or Jew will join the IS.

ISIS offers food, money, shelter and maybe more. Many non-Muslims join ISIS because of these. ISIS make lot of promised.

“Westerners are involved, especially in the recruitment and social media dissemination of the whole ISIS brand,” Mubin Shaikh, a former Taliban recruiter who operated from his hometown of Toronto before becoming a national security operative in Canada, told International Business Times. “Look at the videos they’re making. You think those people were trained in Syria and Iraq? Those people were trained in the West.”

“There were certain things we looked for,” Shaikh said, speaking of his time as a recruiter. “People who didn’t know the religion as much. People who were converts, because converts would probably have problems with their parents at home, so they were more likely to stay in our company."

Most Western recruits are teenagers and almost all going to Syria to fight are men. “The vast majority of Westerners joining up with ISIS are extraordinarily ignorant when it comes to religion,” said Max Abrahms, a Northeastern University professor who studies jihadist groups. Most recruits have no prior connection to Syria and “never even thought to visit.”

"People collaborating with IS can be ordinary people,” said Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi, a Shillman-Ginsburg Fellow at the Middle East Forum. “They don’t have to be religious fanatics. They could be anyone provided you give your pledge of allegiance to ISIS.”

In countries like the U.S., Canada and Britain, potential recruits must find a jihadi mentor, which can be done online or through ISIS supporters in their local communities, according to Imam Syed Soharwardy, founder of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada

ISIS is also likely recruiting in colleges and high schools under the cover of student groups, Soharwardy said. Recruits are seeking camaraderie, and they often know someone who has joined a militant group beforehand. For example, after U.S. citizen Douglas McCain from California went to fight with ISIS in Syria, it was later discovered that he had lived in the same building as a classmate who joined al-Shabab, the Somali militant group with ties to al-Qaeda.

Militant leaders also use Western recruits for publicity to inspire others to join the Islamic State. As with McCain, that usually only happens after he is dead.

Many recruiters use social media, such as Twitter and ask.fm, to field questions about joining the Islamic State, almost an online version of the religious seminar, the terrorism experts said. Once a Westerner has expressed interest, there is an interview process to determine how serious the potential recruit is and to hopefully weed out any spies.  The interview happens using encryption software and proxy servers, Shaikh said.

“If they can Skype you, they’ll Skype you. They want to see what you look like. You can’t be that secretive with them,” Shaikh said.  “If you know somebody, they’ll probably get in touch with someone from your place, whether you're American, Canadian or British. They’ll ask you what area you’re from, what scholars you know.”

Earlier this year, Al-Tamimi received a direct message on Twitter from a young American man eager to join ISIS. The man, who falsely believed Al-Tamimi was associated with the militants, said: “I want to go to Syria. Can you tell me how?”

Let's see what ELSE  Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi has to say.

http://www.aymennjawad.org/16383/is-isis-islamic-and-other-foolish-debates

Like when he discusses is ISIS Muslim...

"Do they think we are Jewish now? lol," responded one ISIS fighter in Syria when asked for his thoughts on the current public debate about whether the Islamic State is actually Islamic. He went on to make an argument, as many of these fighters often do when interviewed, that not only is the Islamic State Islamic but it is the purest and most pristine form of Islam, the kind most in line with what God and His Prophet had intended all along. Another ISIS fighter from South Africa, when asked how he knew that the Islamic State was legitimate, remarked that "I just used my brain."

...

While statements by Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, Osama bin Laden, Sayyid Qutb, and Wahhabi scholars can all be found in detail in ISIS documents and publications, there are also considerable documents citing opinion from the four schools of Islamic legal tradition. For example, in a statement distributed in the Fallujah area on offering prayers on Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr, three differing categories of opinion are given on whether the prayers are obligatory, citing all four schools to illustrate the range. In other instances, the concept of ijmaa (consensus) among the Ahl al-'Ilm (theologians, jurists etc.) is stressed, such as in a Friday sermon for Ninawa province mosques on the division of the world into the abodes of Islam and disbelief.

One could go on, but it is in the realm of IS fatwas in particular – issued by its Diwan al-Eftaa wa al-Buhuth – where the impressive ability to find opinions from medieval jurists and theologians is laid bare. Many of them are unknown to most of the outside world, including contemporary Muslims. The best example is the fatwa ISIS issued to justify burning alive the Jordanian pilot, deemed an 'apostate'. Many were quick to say this practice is absolutely condemned in Islam, but ISIS cited Hanafi and Shafi'i jurist opinion to claim it is permissible, including specific citation of a 15th century Egyptian Shafi'i jurist.

So, Zakir, these learned scholars of ISIS would disagree fully with you on what Islam is and should be understood as.

You do know that meat production is a real problem right?  All those cows generate more carbon pollution than automobiles.  That's got to change, if the planet's going to live.  And we gotta save the planet, because it's the only one we got.

So these cows, they are a big problem.  And the pigs, goats and chickens, too.  In the long run, it'd be best to go vegan, but in the mean time, it's important for everyone to do their fair share to help.  This means eating a lot of meat.

I understand that but wouldn't that mean the total eradication of several species? which is a huge component of climate change.
YES!  You see, just like DENIERS should be all shot at high noon (words of James Cameron) or put in Nuremburg trials, and sent to prison for their WrongThink, similarly, some species are guilty.

Can we define high noon? If you look close enough at the Sun dial you'll see that high noon occurs at 12:45. Now the fact is that "high noon" has been re-enforced many times in my mind as "12:00" blinking on and off. How do I resolve this cognitive dissonance?

This YouTube video visualizes my line of thinking on the matter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-id_Y6QZMg

What about on Flat Earth? 12:00 APM or 12:45 APM?

 Cool

If the Earth is flat then are there snakes on the plane? Why is that news reporter blinking sideways?
Because Global Warming there snakes on plane!

I remember reading in this latest winter season that the ice quantity had been growing down in Antarctica rather than depleting despite the global warming folks saying otherwise. Color me unconcerned.

This is true, regarding the ice growing.  Larson-B is part of a peninsulsa of Antarctic, which extends north into warmer waters.  One part can decrease and another increase, etc.

The wikipedia article seems reasonably factual on the subject and explains it in adequate detail.

The most surprising part of the operation is that they didn't kill the wife. They almost never want to deal with the baggage of a combatant prisoner.

Usually the wife fights back after all she's been living with a high ranking terrorist for a while.

The muslims who do not like people attaching them with ISIS should just scrap their religion. Islam is hated everywhere i have been to. The damage has been done, either accept whatever Islam says[dont nitpick] or leave your religion

We accept what Islam says but it doesn't say to kill innocents like ISIS does.
I do wonder, Zakir, what would you do if the hard liners like ISIS moved into your area, and told you you had New Instructions regarding how to read the Koran and how to present it to people on the Internet.

Would you do what they said?

Of course if you did not the consequences would be severe.

Just a hypothetical question.

Once the entire Antarctic ice sheet melts away, many of the present day nations will go extinct.

The United Kingdom will lose more than 50% of its area. Netherlands and Denmark will be no more.

Cuba will be reduced to a few small islands. Florida will be entirely under water.

None of this is true regarding the effect of the ice of Larsen-B.

BEIRUT (AP) -- In a rare ground attack deep into Syria, U.S. Army commandos killed a man described as the Islamic State's head of oil operations, captured his wife and rescued a woman whom American officials said was enslaved.

A team of Delta Force commandos slipped across the border from Iraq under cover of darkness Saturday aboard Black Hawk helicopters and V-22 Osprey aircraft, according to a U.S. defense official knowledgeable about details of the raid. The official was not authorized to discuss the operation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Americans intended to capture a militant identified by U.S. officials as Abu Sayyaf. When they arrived at his location, a multi-story building, they met stiff resistance, the U.S. official said, and a firefight ensued, resulting in bullet-hole damage to the U.S. aircraft.

Abu Sayyaf was killed, along with an estimated dozen IS fighters, U.S. officials said. No American was killed or wounded.

Before the sun had risen, the commandos flew back to Iraq where Abu Sayyaf's wife, Umm Sayyaf, was being questioned in U.S. custody, officials said. The goal was to gain intelligence about IS operations and any information about hostages, including American citizens, who were held by the group, according to Bernadette Meehan, spokeswoman for the U.S. National Security Council.

But let's look at the joyous peace of the last couple of days, as reported by www.thereligionofpeace.com.

2015.05.14 (Kojiti, Nigeria) - Boko Haram open fire on families preparing for bed, killing seven members.
2015.05.14 (Benghazi, Libya) - Seven children are among eight killed when the Islamic State fires a rocket into an apartment building.
2015.05.14 (Palmyra, Syria) - Twenty-six villagers are butchered by the Islamic State, including ten beheaded.
2015.05.14 (Kabul, Afghanistan) - Nine foreigners are among fourteen people massacred when the Taliban storm a guesthouse.
2015.05.14 (Mbau, DRC) - Twenty-three more villagers are hacked to death with machetes and hatchets by ADF Islamists.
2015.05.12 (Bankalaparha, Bangladesh) - Four fundamentalists hack a secular blogger to death with knives on charges of being an atheist.

I appreciate that they nicely handle the "Big Lie", that Islam is "a religion of peace."

I knew you would post this after I make that post. Like I said, they aren't instructed by Islam, they are doing it for their own political gains and can be seen easily but I don't think you can as you always have biased opinions and already setup your mind.

I remember that one time my teacher said << if we go past in the 1930 or 1950 we will see another Bible version, with more "things", words and concept. >> That makes me to thing "oh wait , there is something wrong here" and someone has removed some parts... and he completed with << I think the Quran is not modified, and if you 'catch' an old version of 100-200 years we will find the same words (except the "layout" and "graphic). >>

This is why my religion teacher said in one of his numerous lessons, ad from that time I started to think and think... and it is not so simple. I do not think it is a question of religion, the unique and important thing must be the respect " if I do not respect you, then I am worth< 0" and also the contrary.
As an atheist who believes the miracles of neither the bible or koran, and who thus has no bone to pick in the fight, I can assure you that what your teacher said was false.  Not an intentional lie, but just something he didn't understand.

If you pick up a bible from 1930 or 1950, the King James edition, it will be exactly the same as one published today.  You can look at the edits from 1610 to 1789 and thence to today.  The details are here...

It may well be that forums such as this one serve a useful purpose in presentation of facts of this sort.

Most Muslims are probably reasonably peaceful, just like most other people.

The writings of Islam leave a door open for people who are not peaceful. How do Islamic Writings do this? By suggesting that violence is okay at some times, and required at other times. There are many examples listed at http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/023-violence.htm of violence listed in the Quran and elsewhere in Islamic writings. Here are several, translated:

I told that the religionofpeace site spread pure disinformation but I know you won't care as you want to spread hatred.......
Yes. There are verses with disinformation in that site. Islam isn't telling people to spread hatred and violence. That verses were about fighting at that time. There are many lies in that website.

Honestly I don't think you can look at the mexican drug-war tolls without taking into account the fact that mexico has been basically forced to take an absolute hardline on it by the USA.

Left to themselves I think Mexico would probably have tried to find a different way besides committing the huge investment of lives that keep escalating the drug war.  But the US wants to stop drugs from coming over its own southern border by making Mexico take more loss of life for the sake of drug enforcement than the US is willing to.  The drug war in Mexico has largely been a proxy war fought with US money and Mexican lives, driven by pressure from the US.

First of all, I understand that Mexico legalized personal weed use some time ago.  But there was something about that being due to police using the law to nab American citizens and exhort money from them.

Regardless, it isn't a proxy war.  Because it's a war between cartels.  Not police/federalis vs the gangsters.

The killing seems fairly indiscriminate.  Maybe to create an atmosphere of terror or something like that.
11398  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS impregnates 9-year-old girl on: May 16, 2015, 12:23:27 AM
...
For sure your four border states are not going to vote weed legal, because of the horrific power it'd give the Mexican cartels to move right into the USA.  But all power to DC, Colorado, etc...

Can I question that? It seems to me that if one of those states legalized pot, the primary loser would be the Mexican cartels. The illegal status of MJ is essential for their survival. If I were a drug lord I would donate millions to any candidate that will fight to keep MJ illegal. It would be a disaster if people could grow their own.

Okay, let me translate that.  Lower PRICES for weed would be a proportional loss for the cartels.

But aren't we seeing, not lower but higher prices?  That's what I read at least about legal weed in Colorado.

And believe me, you do not want these cartel gangsters positioning themselves at the borders of say, Texas and Arizona....this has nothing to do with weed being legal or illegal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Drug_War

By the end of Felipe Calderón's administration (2006–12), the official death toll of the Mexican Drug War was at least 60,000.[79] Estimates set the death toll above 120,000 killed by 2013, not including 27,000 missing.[80][81]

No, there is near universal agreement that the black market is what elevates price. It was true with alcohol prohibition and it's the same with drugs. The illegality makes it profitable for those who are willing to take the risk, or have the firepower to be untouchable.

The price could go up though if the state or federal government is taxing it enough.
Seems like I mentioned that earlier, but the legal price in Colorado is several times the illegal street price.  I don't live there and don't know the specifics ... and I don't use weed anyway, but it is quite interesting.

That is obviously true, but I am not dealing with motivations... only dealing with assertions, and the level of truth in them and their perspective.

Here is what the German objectives in Poland were.  Who do we find out from?  From the Germans of that time, of course.  We look at what they said:

....On August 22, 1939, just before the invasion of Poland, Hitler gave explicit permission to his commanders to kill "without pity or mercy, all men, women, and children of Polish descent or language."[12][13]

....On March 15, 1940 Himmler stated: "All Polish specialists will be exploited in our military-industrial complex. Later, all Poles will disappear from this world. It is imperative that the great German nation considers the elimination of all Polish people as its chief task."

Which religion teaches you to kill other humans who belong to your own religion and to kill children who don't even know the meaning of the word religion?

It's disgusting when people blame a religion for a criminal offense and start indirectly defending these criminals.

Correct. These are mentally retarded people . Humanity comes over any religion whether it is hindu, muslims, christians etc. And no religion teaches to kill other humans and how can one kill the innocent children who were just on journey of life to see how beautiful it is.

Yes they were muslims and no doubt about that. Their religion itself teaches them to do so they are given the special training from their own religion and they brainwashed their mentality towards the society I mean how can one give a training to kill some innocent children and people. Ridiculous.

Historically, though, it certainly has occurred.  What about ritual sacrifices of humans for the gory of God?

South America and Mexico.

Yeah, the Mayans, Aztecs, Incans...all sacrificed people, even children to their "gods". I just don't see any need for religion in an intelligent society, I don't care what others believe in but when you start killing innocents and children, you and your beliefs should not exist.
I will mention one more thing.  Think back to some ancient time of warring kingdoms, with a continual competition to see who could develop the best warriors.  You could motivate them to a degree with propaganda from childhood as to the virtues of bravery, and fearlessness.  I am sure you could shape the society such that women desired such men.  However, these guys were not totally brainwashed - faced with life or death on the battlefield, many knew it was only for the economic betterment and ego of their warlord or king.

HOWEVER ----- train them that there is an AFTERLIFE, in which their rewards are far in excess of their short, brutal existence on Earth, and now you have added a dimension to the battle.  In short, you have a superior fighting force.

Thus I think we could argue that war and violence were strictly the products of religion, rather than they being the bastardized products of the power hungry posing as religion.

Even after framing the actions of ISIS in this manner, though, one should recognize the fact that even "moderate Muslims" such as frequent this forum, seem all appalled by these barbarians.   Success on the battlefield though, does not care if they are appalled.  It only relates to who actually goes and fights, and how.

Regardless, the concept that religion and it's derivative, The Afterlife, is rooted in warlords and kings desire for better fighters, does not single out Islam.  Does it apply to Islam?  Hell yes.  Do we see some in Islam on suicide missions to kill innocent people on their path to glory in the afterlife?  Sure do.

How about that.
