1141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unit name for 1e-8 BTC on: August 26, 2011, 05:39:01 AM
Currently Bitcoins are divisible up to 8 decimal places. This is pure convention though and can be changed.

True, afaik SI doesn't have special name for 1e-8. So I think Satoshi is a good name for this unit. 1 satoshi = 10 nBtc.
1142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Do we bring the value of BitCoins back up? on: August 25, 2011, 08:49:33 PM
solution is banal: create new bitcoin services and invite people from outside the forum to use them
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Daemon - List Transactions on: August 24, 2011, 01:10:16 PM
Also when displaying the transactions, is it best to display them from a mysql database, or directly from the api?. Maybe its best to run a script every 10 seconds that checks for new deposits and updates a database...

To my mind if you are using mysql database anyway, it is better to run the script which will update the database with new transactions. In this case your site won't depend on bitcoind (only the script will depend on it).
1144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Daemon - List Transactions on: August 24, 2011, 12:43:26 PM
Well the senders address gets listed on many sites like bitcoinduit, bitlotto.com and on the bitcoin app itself. I simply just need to list the transactions and their return addresses for a lotto game Smiley

Oh, now I see why they write something like "DO NOT SEND COINS FROM AN EWALLET.(Online service) Only send the 0.25 BTC from Bitcoin software running on your computer. If you send the BTC from an EWALLET, you will not get the winnings." Smiley

I am not sure, but I don't think they do it via standard bitcoin API. Probably they use jgarzik's patch I mentioned before or rely on blockexplorer.com as vv01f already mentioned Smiley Update: oh, didn't notice the link to Abe..
1145  Other / Off-topic / Re: Eligius miners aware of prayers in block headers? on: August 24, 2011, 12:22:57 PM
I think we should be tolerant to Luke-Jr's religious propaganda (even though I don't like it).  I think Luke-Jr tries to make the world better, and we should respect that, not all of us do.

On the other hand I agree with Graet: the mining pool users deserve to know that they are not only mining for bitcoins, but are also supporting Catholicism. Their views could be incompatible with supporting Catholicism, so it would be honest to make it explicit.
1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Daemon - List Transactions on: August 24, 2011, 09:30:50 AM
When i use List Transactions, it only returns the address the coins were sent to

I think this is done intentionally to prevent bad practices (in some cases the sender's address might not correspond to the sender, and the sender might want to receive bitcoins to a new unique address). Moreover in one transaction there can be several sender's addresses.

But if you really need it, I think it is possible to get it from blockexplorer.com or to use the getblock patch by jgarzik yourself. You can find the transaction in the block and get its inputs. Inputs reference the outputs of previous transactions (which contain the desired sender's addresses).

Ok.. I think I sorta get it. Via that wiki I found Bitcoin Payflow, yet still have no idea how to implement this.
I know nothing about php, old school html is all I know.

Probably you need a server to run bitcoind and maybe somebody to set it up and implement the desired functionality for you.
1148  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Simple Form? on: August 22, 2011, 05:01:01 PM
Once the customer fills in their address and hits submit, the form has to send that value that's listed in box #3 to my bitcoin address to complete the transaction.

The form doesn't have access to customer's wallet and can't send bitcoins from his/her address. It is the customer who can send the money to your address. So, you need just to generate a unique bitcoin address and to ask the customer to send bitcoins there.

You might find it useful to read https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Merchant_Howto, https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/PHP_developer_intro and the linked pages.
1149  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Simple Form? on: August 22, 2011, 01:16:22 PM
I am sorry, I didn't get it: why do you need a "send from" box?
1150  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Porn on: August 19, 2011, 07:02:24 PM
The issue has nothing to do with what two consenting adults are doing.  The issue is how pornography affects society's perception of women.  If pornography promotes violence against women (something some people claim and have studies to support), then what those two consenting adults do on film very much affects ALL women.

There is sense in what you are talking about. But there is also much porn which promotes violence against men (some men like this). Does it affect society's perception of men? Is it good or bad?
1151  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Porn on: August 19, 2011, 01:22:32 PM
Personally, I think pornography is wrong and degrading to women, and I don't like people who support it.

There are different points of view on this topic. Probably the world would be much better if people are tolerant unless their rights are violated. If there are people who like a stupid show, then let them be Smiley

Personally I think any religion is wrong and degrading humans and I do not like when people support it, but that doesn't mean I do not like that people.

Quote
Bitcoin having things like "bitcoin porn" is not going to make it look better in the eyes of the general public.
Thoughts?

I think the athmosphere of freedom should be attractive to general public. I don't think it sincerely likes the sanctimony and irrational taboos, imposed by traditions of our society Smiley
1152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin will change the voting systems on: August 16, 2011, 04:36:13 AM
I thought about it too and I implemented somewhat similar approach at Bitcoin Pyramid Ads... You are welcome to use this service not only for advertising, but for voting too Smiley

Put your message into ads, share the ad's link with voters... and the system will count the score for you Smiley
1153  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage, 0.01 btc for first newcomers!] on: August 14, 2011, 08:41:45 PM
I am going to start advertising Bitcoin Pyramid on August, 15.

Actually there is no need to wait... Bitcoin Pyramid is "beta" now (updated the main post). So I am starting advertizing Bitcoin Pyramid outside the forum and I am resuming giving out 0.01 btc for newcomers who send me their MemberId.
1154  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage] on: August 10, 2011, 06:40:12 PM
Maybe set it to show the ad numbers in the payment lists.  A1+, A2-, etc.

Good idea, thanks! I plan to implement it soon.

Done.
1155  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage, 0.01 btc for first newcomers!] on: August 08, 2011, 07:29:56 PM
The plan is to have Beta by August, 15:
1. Release a version with new algorithm of money distribution [by July, 25]
2. Release a version which shows number of levels of the pyramid [by August, 1]
3. Maybe add some social buttons for twitter/facebook [by August, 8]
4. See how it works for a week. If everything is fine and no bugs found, then:
4.1. call it Beta-version [by August, 15]
4.2. resume paying small bonuses for newcomers who send me their memberId
4.3. start advertizing Bitcoin Pyramid outside the forum

Points 1-3 have been fulfilled. The plan is valid: I am going to start advertising Bitcoin Pyramid on August, 15.
1156  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage] on: August 05, 2011, 03:30:46 PM
Heh.  I found a slight bug triggered by my counter to ad #3.

http://bitcoinpyramid.com/ads/3

Oh, a type conversion bug... Fixed it. Thanks a lot!
1157  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage] on: August 05, 2011, 03:43:11 AM
Nice!

Maybe set it to show the ad numbers in the payment lists.  A1+, A2-, etc.

Good idea, thanks! I plan to implement it soon.

Was hoping to get some advertising links like the randomiser.

Thank you for your comment. The problem is how to reliably manage links without email & password. After MtGox and Bitcoin Randomizer were hacked, I don't want to store any private data in the database. Maybe I could organize some kind of authorization via deposits.

I think I found a solution. Please see the new version of Bitcoin Pyramid with Bitcoin Pyramid Ads. I hope it will increase the number of random payments. Each pyramid member who invested his/her money is kind of a shareholder of this tiny advertising business now. Any feedback is welcome.
1159  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage] on: August 03, 2011, 10:34:22 AM
Use referral http://bitcoinpyramid.com/member/349 and then link your own referral in your signature.  Referrals can come fast.

Thanks for joining! Please note that this is not a referral link (correct referall link is in your signature).
1160  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Pyramid [alpha-stage] on: July 28, 2011, 07:08:59 PM
I've been depositing little bits quite regularly (have 1.5btc atm) and haven't had a single random yet...

I am sorry to hear that. But I am sure you will receive random payments because people with smaller deposits receive random payments.
