11461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sell Bitcoin ahead of 1st Aug Hard Fork on: June 20, 2017, 08:29:26 PM
Maybe this is going to bring us some relief and prove to be a ray of hope and there's no chain split and bitcoin stays on one chain
https://cointelegraph.com/news/segwait-is-over-bitcoin-network-shows-80-percent-support-for-segwit2x

Doesn't seem to be correct. I thought segwit2x means yes, segwit first, but then LATER 2MB block increase aka hard fork aka chain split? Or did I misunderstand it all along? Time to hit the books again.
11462  Other / Archival / Re: Do you agree with idea "Bitcoin bank" ? on: June 20, 2017, 08:30:40 AM
I know most of us will claim to dislike the idea of a crypto bank... but in my experience, people new to Bitcoin will be very afraid of the idea to keep their own seed or private keys or even wallet address. My family for instance always ask me "what is my email password again?" and every time will lock themselves out because of wrong password.

So I know they would rather create an account somewhere for someone else to keep their crypto safe.
11463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: August 1 needs to be today... on: June 20, 2017, 07:09:57 AM

The "emergent consensus"-supporting miners can support Segwit as well, most of them are doing it supporting the Segwit2x proposal. "Emergent Consensus" is independent from Segwit, it is simply a mechanism that allows miners to signal for block sizes they support (also known as "Bitcoin Unlimited").

The most likely outcome is that we will have Segwit activated in July. Then a large part of the miners (about 80%) will signal for a 2MB hardfork which will occur in December, as far as I know. It's up to the Core developers to support that hardfork or not. If 2MB are supported then we will have a pretty smooth upgrade. If not, then this may result in a chain split.

My initial math was wrong as there are some pools that support both versions of Segwit. But from the last 50 blocks, more than 90% (47) are supporting Segwit2x or Segwit-BIP141. You can see it in the list at the bottom of the coin.dance/blocks page.

In summary, what we understand will happen for sure if the current trend is continued is that Segwit will be activated next month? I wonder if the improvements after that will change anyone's mind about what happens post Segwit.
11464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: August 1 needs to be today... on: June 19, 2017, 03:35:08 PM
It's not good, it seems some people are switching to Litecoin for retail payments, I like BTC a lot but I don't like the way this coin is treated... it's like it's left alone doing nothing about it and meanwhile lots of altcoins are trying to take over... BTC looks like a fat coin barely moving right now folks while whales are taking as much as they can on its back, it needs to be light and have speed... if something doesn't change after August 1 will probably consider other options as well, I've believed too much in one coin and missed others on the road

The reason other coins easily upgrade their protocols is precisely because they have less people using the coin so it's easier. When a coin gets on the level of bitcoin we'll see if it's as easy for them to get things done (and proof of Vitalik doesn't count btw)

That's what people don't get. They seem to ignore that Bitcoin probably has the highest amount of work and discussion going on around the scenes, not like ETH which is led by leaders and people are happy to follow. I'm not saying ETH is bad but if everyone switched over to LTC or any other alt and see the same problems happening, they'll be left wondering where their devs are.
11465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are we going with cryptocurrency? on: June 19, 2017, 06:10:05 AM
That's a really good question now, especially if you accept that this so-called mainstream adoption is starting to happen. I see Bitcoin being asked on Twitter and IG a lot now, even as ads are found on facebook. People who have never heard it will now quickly understand crypto.

We saw all the new entrants this year. Imagine next year!
11466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CrowdSale Live]🌟🌟🌟🌟 NVO Decentralized Exchange | Multi Wallet 🌟🌟🌟🌟 on: June 18, 2017, 01:54:30 PM
Nine days and seven hours ++ left and it is really quite amazing to see the numbers collected. Bitcoin = $1.1 millions. ETH = $0.85 millions.

Not sure the value of the others but from 2 cryptos is already 2 million. I am only able to invest about $100 maximum... so I will account for 0.005% of ICO oh well:)
11467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Cash is better than Bitcoin. on: June 18, 2017, 01:46:52 PM
What are the reasons, why people use Cash or Credit Cards / ATM / Banks?

* Work offline 100%
* No fees.
* Accepted for Food Shopping & Micropayments
* 0 confermations time
* 0 exchange risks
* anyone is able to understanding of the value of payment

Hard to ignore these benefits of cash, and this is true for the majority of the planet. But I think the core concepts of alternative cash, Bitcoin for example, is not really to replace cash but to open more access to things cash cannot do.

* Cash cannot be easily or without risk be sent across countries or even cities.
* I cannot confirm you have enough cash in your wallet to pay for a service.
* I cannot guarantee if you send me cash you will take it back.
* I cannot easily check to see if your cash is good, or guarantee my bank will accept your cash.
11468  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man Robbed at Gunpoint for $1,100 Worth of Bitcoins in Brooklyn on: June 17, 2017, 09:07:44 PM
I'll bet any time now if we were to make some study on data, Bitcoin-related crime would still be the lowest percentage of all currency crimes. Hope the Brooklyn guy knows how to track his stolen coin (yes, isn't that wonderful, unlike fiat you can track it from your computer at home).
11469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WATCH IT BITCOIN MAY HEAD SOUTH on: June 16, 2017, 08:17:45 AM
You're kidding right? Bitcoin was/is heading south, but have you noticed today's 10% rally? 216 bitcoins? Seriously? You see exchangers changing that much bitcoins in minutes. One tiny drop in a huge ocean.
11470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The king is already dead. on: June 16, 2017, 06:20:42 AM
Not exactly completely dead for micropayments. Check out faucethub or moonbitcoin payments and other paid to click sites. They payout thousands weekly in the sums of 25,000 satoshi, which isn't very micro, but how else can you earn or pay 0.01 cents to customers?
11471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is Complete Garbage!!! on: June 16, 2017, 06:10:14 AM
The problem with clickbait is that it works. You can even add three exclamation marks to prove you're clickbait and the hits will still come to your page.

Even if he was right about crypto only being used for gambling and money laundering, online gambling has been the second biggest earner on internet (after porn) for 20 years now. He's ignorant for saying it has no business model.

Bitcoin user: Hey have you heard about Bitcoin?
Writer of clickbait: It's complete garbage!!!
Bitcoin user: Oh. Okay.
Writer of clickbait: Stay away!!! It's only used for gambling and laundering!!!
Bitcoin user: Actually -
Writer of clickbait: It's complete garbage!!!
11472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SERIOUS] FINAL thread to settle them all: IS ETHEREUM A SCAM OR NOT? on: June 14, 2017, 09:17:27 PM
It is very emotional and silly to say it is a scam. That being said, I at least believe there are some worrying problems with it:

1 - too many tokens in the hands of few, this can easily translate in pump 'n dump to corner the market;

2 - the main differential, smart contracts, cannot be clearly defined by them, nor can they provide really ground breaking innovative working examples of it.

2.1 - Question 1: what is the difference between smart contracts and a bunch of "if...then...else..." routines? (don't tell me it has to be "turing complete" because it sounds like bull)

2.2 -Question 2: how does the ethereum platform is superior to any other platform over a blockchain where so-called smartcontracts can be implemented? (this answer clearly depends on the "uniqueness" of what a smartcontract is, that is, question1's answer)

3 - that auction of domain names valid for 1 year, that diminished my trust in it, simply because you are offering in a purely commercial way a sort of asset/privilege/domain, for a short period of time, of something is not even clearly defined, let alone develop, that will convey business on such "ecosystem". In sum: capitalizing a puff of smoke, looks like.

Don't get me wrong, ethereum enthusiasts, but these questions are found wanted.

Agree. If it ever was a scam, it's now moved too far to ever look like one anymore. We have to ditch this emotional garbage and pay attention to what ETH is now.

1. Agree, and when PoS happens, the hodlers will become even richer, even faster.
2. Smart contracts were indeed overhyped, and any respectable crypto can implement.
3. Not sure what you're talking about, but ETH is always connected to some sort of enterprise, which is why I cannot see it the same way I see Bitcoin.
11473  Economy / Economics / Re: Housing bubble in Australia on: June 14, 2017, 02:35:52 PM
It's not just in Australia. Property in general in Asia and even in Europe are always in some kind of bubble. And when that bubble bursts, it seems they fall 15% maximum before going on the next bubble again. I've been waiting for property/housing to drop in my country, but it seems people just keep holding or dropping slightly below listing, before rising again.

reserve sig please.

P.S. only if my current campaign ends (which it will very soon, I think!)

Please give me the community first deep discount on this exciting project.

Also, I would like to:

Reserve translation to Malay and/or Indonesian.

11476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which alt coin will gain most value in 2017? on: June 14, 2017, 10:17:46 AM
I very like ETC although this coin not listing on your list, but I think ETC is one of altcoin potential after ETH, just wait when ETH change to PoS and see the price ETC again, maybe x20 Smiley

But if we're talking about 2017, this year. Even if ETH switches to PoS in November, that's still only 2 months for miners to start moving to ETC (and that's a big IF).

I think ETC isn't a bad choice for alts, it is stable in price. But to see it gain even x2 value this year isn't likely.
11477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Please help - Things I still don't understand about Ethereum... on: June 14, 2017, 09:46:01 AM
I read somewhere that by 2019/20, miners will own about half of Ethereum (mainly because a lot of it was premined thanks to ETH's crowdfunding at its launch). There's also bound to be more miners now because of ETH price (even early this year it was still unprofitable to mine). Somehow it also discourages pools and centralisation of hashpower... so it sounds like a "dream" of decentralised mining by home users but at the same time this was offset because of its huge premine.
11478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: What to do if Poloniex swallowed several withdrawals? on: June 13, 2017, 11:37:05 AM
Your best and easiest bet is to keep messaging support and keep complaining without fail until they finally resolve your situation. In my experience as long as you are a pain in the ass they will quickly discover its easier to fix your problem than to keep delaying it.

Very unfortunate but very true. Even in real life, I find I have to spend hours and hours complaining and asking. When it comes to business, everyone is happy to take your money but if it's about refunds, payments, returns etc. you have to keep bugging them until some higher management decides to solve your issue.
11479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Positive Feedback Loop / $10,000 USD Giveaway! (Follow Along) on: June 13, 2017, 10:28:55 AM
Not exactly sure how this works but here's my application:

Short-term Goal:
$250 would be nice as that's about 0.1 BTC right now.

Medium-term Goal:
$3,000 is my dream of getting 1 BTC to keep and hold.

Long-term Goal:
$5 million would be my retirement goal for myself and for my family (parents), which is 25 years from now. I believe that this is achievable with a bit of luck, the right advise and the right timing. If I can make $100 into $1,000 in my first year, grow that to $10,000 in my 2nd and $50,000 by my fifth year, than I don't see why $5 million is out of reach. We've all seen crypto dreams come true. It's my turn!

Is English Your Native Language?
It is my second language, I am improving with every year.

Are you fluent in at least 2 languages?
Yes, Malay, English.

Do you want to be considered for a paid position in the future?
Of course, as long as I am rewarded fairly.

What do you Love to Do, and do you consider yourself skilled at that activity?
I love reading and learning, and sharing my learning. I consider myself quite good at talking to people in general.
11480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Flippening watch: BTC-ETH spread down to under 7B USD on: June 13, 2017, 10:04:40 AM
Maybe once Bitcoin's scaling issue does the temporary fix, ICOs will again choose Bitcoin. This ETH volume is simply from the dozens of ICOs out there, currently ETH tokens are so sexy and people are buying into it.
