11481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why hasn't any altcoin replaced bitcoin? on: August 22, 2019, 09:58:04 PM
I think that only good from all this altcoins is that they can serve as some kind of testing ground,
so we can see what are bad and good sides in changing things in Bitcoin code.
We now see that there is no need for so many coins, and none of them is better than Bitcoin.

If they try to improve one thing...big whole opens on other side, and then we have big issues.
(example is Craig Wrong creation monster BSV with gigantic block size, where we saw split in 3 parts)

We also see Ethereum blockchain is almost full now, and they still cant find solution for PoS transition

We saw numerous bugs and flaws in PoS coins

We saw many scams and failed projects in all masternodes coins circus

And many many more reasons why Bitcoin BTC is number 1

Kako je krenulo ovo ce uskoro biti najduza tema na nasem delu foruma Grin
Svaka cast za trud. Treba samo razmisliti da li je bolje i preglednije da samo update-ujes prvi post ili da pises nove.

Možda jeste, to ću i uraditi,

11486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paper wallet - from Core ? on: August 22, 2019, 11:12:48 AM
The thing is... I want to gift a friend who is getting married this weekend some crypto, everyone else will be gifting fiat as it normally goes.. so this will be a cool gift. My own BTC is already on a Ledger Nano. So I will just send some to the new address and need it printed along with private keys so it can be put in an envelope... thanks for suggestions so far Smiley

Hey that is a very nice birthday gift, that he will probably appreciate much more in the future Wink

One alternative you have is also to buy him a hardware wallet with BTC.
Safepal is one of the cheapest I know.
11487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New in the forum, I have a project and no idea how to use bitcoins on: August 22, 2019, 09:40:27 AM
Hello everybody,
I 'm Sabrina from Italy.
Thanks to my friend I discovered this world. But actually I have to learn a lot of things about bitcoins because it s a new world for me.

I have a project. Artistic t-shirt.. Hand painted with my drawings and sell them online. Also painting etc.

What I have to do now That I discovered this new way outside the 'normal' way to pay goods?

Sorry for the general question. If you have suggestion for me I would be very grateful

Thank you!!!!
Sabrina

Do you want to sell your T-shirts for Bitcoin,
or you want to buy and pay things with Bitcoin yourself?

11488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paper wallet - from Core ? on: August 22, 2019, 09:05:40 AM
To print paper wallet in your own home... without smartphone:

- Download QR Workshop (free, open source, portable windows app that can generate QR code image)
- import public key (priv key)
- Generate QR codes and save images
- Open Gimp or any other editing software
- Create paper wallet size/shape you want
- Add/edit your QR codes and address
- Print on your own home printer

However...I have not tried to do that from .dat file myself

11489  Other / Meta / Re: Extension for Bitcointalk ? Do you want it ? on: August 22, 2019, 08:59:01 AM
Looking Cool, maybe also add dark theme for extension menu Smiley

If possible you must also integrate Enhanced merit UI script into this extension.
It is much faster and better way to send merit to other users.

11490  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing Bitcoin In Bitcoin Core wallet on: August 21, 2019, 11:00:49 PM
I meant that he should NOT keep private key backuo in .txt file or any other digital file format.
People tend to to this sometimes, instead of writing seed words on paper.

But this wouldn't be too much of an issue either.

If the computer is air-gapped and the hard drive is encrypted, storing the seed on the hard drive would not decrease the security at all.

I agree that a digital backup should never be the only backup (in case of electronic devices breaking).
But the digital backup itself should no be a problem at all.

If the computer is turned off, no information can be extracted (encrypted hard drive).
If the computer is turned on, information can be extracted from the backup file AND the wallet (so no difference either).

As long as the computer is air-gapped and the harddrive is encrypted, that would be fine.

Or which situation can you think of where the digital backup would reveal the seed while the wallet file wouldn't ? ?

So you say it is OK to create digital files backups on computers, and you are willing to take that risk?

If operating system is Windows, it is not so hard for hackers to bypass or crack login,
and I am not sure most people password protect files (like I do) or encrypt hard drives.

If hacker steals your computer, knowing that you have bitcoin wallet in there, he will do everything to extract information he needs.

11492  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing Bitcoin In Bitcoin Core wallet on: August 21, 2019, 08:21:22 PM
Safest way you can use Bitcoin core wallet is to install it on computer that is not connected to internet,
and as extra security measure, you should create strong login password and encrypt drive,
but most important thing is NOT to keep private key in digital format on that computer, rather use paper/metal backup.

A wallet file does contain private keys.
You can not use a wallet without the private keys.

One can either choose to not store them on a computer at all, which means you need to import them at some point to access the coins, or you store them on a computer.
Since the computer would be offline anyway, it doesn't really matter whether you store them on it, or not. You don't gain much (if anything at all) security-wise when not storing them on your fully offline pc.

I meant that he should NOT keep private key backuo in .txt file or any other digital file format.
People tend to to this sometimes, instead of writing seed words on paper.

I have done small research of few most active alternatives and created this topic
with small graphical pie chart comparison.
It is not exact and super precise, butrather it was made for fan:

11498  Economy / Scam Accusations / ⚠️ Ponzi scheme Invest-Limited is a new Bitconnect on: August 21, 2019, 12:08:04 PM

There is a new Ponzi scheme circus in crypto space called Invest-Limited

Is this one more Bitconnect clone?
-YES it is!

Here is why:

website:

Invest-Limited offers crazy high % returns if you send them Bitcoin or fait money, just like any other ponzi.

They say NO RISK and ZERO RISK

They use fake mockups and images to show their work place!

They pretend to mine Bitcoin with GPU mining farm  Roll Eyes!

11499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Burn Satoshis coins to end the threat of prices crashing - Paxful Founder on: August 21, 2019, 10:56:08 AM
Paxful founder Ray Youssef has tweeted a bizzare idea in which he wants the community to burn Satoshis coins, so the threat of prices crashing due to Satoshi revealing himself and selling his coins goes away. While I understand that if Satoshi were to sell his coins crypto prices indeed will crash, but in the end it’s his creation and his coins no one should decide for him. What are your thoughts on this should the community support this bizzare idea, or voice their opinion and keep Satoshis coins safe?.

This would only be possible in case of major Bitcoin hard fork update (maybe due to some security issue or improvement)
In theory, majority of users would update and Satoshi coins would (probably) stay on the old chain.
Some diehards would no doubt also stay on this old chain, and we could see forks again.

This would probably end once and for all production of new Faketoshis like Craig Wrong and Bilal Halid.

Is it likely to happen?
No, but everything is possible.

Also, if there was any top-down meddling from Twitter here, then it leaves something of a stain on the whole thing. (I don't know why people subject themselves to Twitter, which has proven time and time again to be a terrible platform...)

Twitter is platform where you can get banned super easy,
but I think it is still better than Facebook, and sadly I am not sure there is better alternative social media platform yet.

The bigger news should be the bitcoin-dot-com domain. Almost every newcomer tries that site instead of the correct bitcoin.org.
If that Roger Ver resigning news is not fake (which I also doubt), then it would be a great news. But this would mean he gave up, which is a big "hmmm"

He is still Executive Chairman
so I don't think anything major changed there.
