I am looking into getting another mining rig.. I want to possibly do a 5 gpu setup.. But For some reason i cant find where you guys get your Powered risers..

Can you guys link me to a few reliable sellers?

Thanks

You can definitely make your own if you have experience soldering or getting the pin-outs for PCI-E.

Alternatively, we have a web store with the powered risers you're looking for with flat rate shipping.  Wink

I Just placed an order on friday, hoping they come soon. I'm planning on combining cards from a couple systems and reduce power overhead... I'll post on quality when they get here.

Thanks again Jacob! They should be there any day now.  Smiley

I've been using the same cables in my rigs now (same one in the product images) for months now without any issues.

Just FYI for everyone, we also have a thread in the marketplace subforum here.

I have the same issue with standard size pcie riser cables.  It sucks bc I cannot fit the 3rd card without them...  even when I have 2 cards and put the secondary card on a riser everything boots up, and as soon as cgminer starts I get BSOD.

my next step is to get a riser with a molex cable

Hi Prophetx,

Have you tried running a couple cards at a time without any risers to confirm that the issue is caused the cables?

I recommend molex cables for any configuration with 4 or more GPUs to minimize the risk of frying the motherboard unless it specifically states it supports 4 way crossfire.

Are those powered risers ones you modded yourself, to sell? Or did they come that way?

We partnered with a manufacturer that specifically manufactures riser cables and they come this way without any modifications.

1170  Other / Beginners & Help / Kill-a-watt power meters are available at the library on: May 03, 2013, 03:05:48 PM
Just FYI!

Kill-a-watt meters are available from most libraries (free obviously) as part of energy conservation plans. It's great if you just want to use it to tune your rig after building it, troubleshooting or getting a baseline average for your KW/h to estimate your power bill.

For some it might be better to just buy it (under $20 on Amazon). For other's like myself its a great to borrow it for a week or two to tune and test new rigs. Plus I live a few blocks from the library  Wink

What graphics card are you using?!

What hash rate should you be getting?
Check out this list here and see where you should be.
1172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best OS to mine bitcoins? on: May 03, 2013, 02:54:33 PM
Definitely linux if you plan on scaling up/out your mining operation. Just because remote management (SSH) becomes easier with more rigs, scripting and Windows sometimes has issues running more than 4 cards in a rig.

If you're a small operation, starting up or a novice just stick with Windows. Linux will drive you nuts unless you like learning something new  Wink
1173  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone ever get lucky mining with a low power machine? on: May 03, 2013, 02:49:15 PM
general consensus: dont bother mining just buy a lottery ticket  Wink
1174  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2x ASUS 7950 low voltage problem on: May 03, 2013, 02:47:56 PM
One issue I've come across is with higher temps the electricical resistance increases in the GPU PCBs and the rig draws more power at the wall to compensate for this resistance to meet the voltage requirements. When one of my 3x7950 rigs was running 75C+ it was drawing just over 1000w at the wall (mind you it should only draw 200w per card).

With an open air case and riser cables you should be able to bring those temps down considerably. Also get a kill-a-watt! You might be able to borrow one from the library if you dont want to buy one, most cities have energy conservation plans and lend them out.

Not only will you prolong the life of your cards, save energy, but can also clock them higher to get over ~630 khs. I have mine clocked at 1100 core and 1600 mem running at 59C with 60% fan speed.
