1162  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ONE CORE CPU - is this a problem? on: May 26, 2011, 11:21:43 AM
Windows + the AMD Stream 2.4 + newer Phoenix max out 1 CPU core per video card.  This problem doesn't happen on Linux.  Whats interesting though about the sempron 140, is idle it uses 30-35W, full load its 45W, so not that much of a difference in power usage.

Thank god...!!

I just purchased some AMD 160u single core 20W cpus... so they should be able to run multiple video cards without any problems on linux? Just not on windows?

Yep, stupid windows has a gpu core limit. -.-

Yes, that's why it's in a TC volume.

1167  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can I use the same wallet on 2 machines? on: May 26, 2011, 08:23:21 AM
Wondering if it's possible to use the same wallet from 2 different bitcoin-setup machines? For redundancy? Would they synch? Curious.

You could probably setup dropbox and have your wallet in that, then run the client with -datadir <dropboxdir>\wallet or something like that, then everytime your wallet changes it would sync, AND you have copy online, might want to TC encrypt it first though. Smiley

Please donate Wink

1169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox Peek - Google chrome extension on: May 25, 2011, 01:04:55 PM
I couldn't find a thread about this and I am not the creator, but is anyone using this new extension? It shows the price on the toolbar, while clicking on it will show you Buy/Sell orders, volume, Low/High and Last price, as well as a list of the last transactions. It's real time and is very quick at recording orders.

Great extension, and hats off to the creator. I've been waiting for something simple like this!

Sweet, anything like this for firefox?
1170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I make money from my Bitcoin Mining? and other questions on: May 25, 2011, 12:54:38 PM
Getting confirmations takes some time. On average, you should see one confirmation appear every 10 minutes or so. There's more to it, sometimes the network is busy with a large volume of transactions and for this reason you may want to pay a small transaction fee when sending Bitcoin, as the miners will prioritize such transactions. I'm not sure we've seen such volumes yet, though.

Thanks, It has all been confirmed now after waiting a little bit, I was just not sure if I had to do anything. My shares unfortunately still show as Stale..why I do not know.

Try switching to a different pool temporarily.
1171  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: I'm bad miner? on: May 25, 2011, 12:25:30 PM
Pretty sure that that GPU supports CUDA and Maybe even OpenCL, download something like poclbm and use that to mine.

1173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Faster While Internet Browser Open [poclbm] on: May 25, 2011, 06:53:54 AM
I'm running poclbm and if I close my internet browser, the speed drops to 3,000 khash/s, but if I leave it open it'll be at 170,000 khash/s.

Is there a reason for this? Also, at this speed, how fast should I be able to finish a block and is there a way in which I might be able to go faster?

Current difficulty it will take you    71 days, 9 hours, 22 minutes to get a block, and try overclocking Smiley
1174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How about ... a search engine just for inventory at Bitcoin accepting sites on: May 25, 2011, 06:09:34 AM
there's a big difference between feeding some API data and building an engine to crawl sites.

Couldn't participating sites keep a bitcoin.xml file in the root directory of their websites or something which would contain a list of all products and current prices? Websites can dynamically update xml files with cron jobs and the directory service/search engine only has to look for this file on all websites in the list.

Hmm, nice idea, thanks Smiley
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How about ... a search engine just for inventory at Bitcoin accepting sites on: May 25, 2011, 01:39:15 AM
A bunch of pessimists.  What does it hurt to give it a try?  Bitcoin has to become more accessible somehow!

Exactly, and 24 hours later, the site is pretty much up and running, now we just need product lists from merchants Smiley
1176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many blocks before I typically get a Bitcoin on: May 24, 2011, 02:57:30 PM
I've read the Wikipedia post and some of thease forums, followed your steps for GUIMiner as well as figuring some out myself and it's nevertheless stuck. But I think that the bitcoin currency is a good idea and right now I don't mind investing time in helping out with getting this stuff working more smoothly even if it turns out I can't make a profit with it anyway.

Your right, generating bitcoins seems like it dosn't involve much, it's a game of waiting, like idleRPG except less pointless.

I like the idea of trading bitcoins although I know little of the theroy of have any practical experance of trading for example stocks, although as far as I can tell there seems to be a lot of randomness in trading stocks. Although 1bitcoin in bitcoins = 1bitcoin in bitcoins, I can't see how trading would work unless it is bitcoins for services or products.

I'm open to the idea of earning them although I can't think of anything that wouldn't have occured to me before with standard money.

Yes, but as more people start mining, the difficulty goes up, therefor the harder they are to mine, therefor the price of bitcoins go up, so say you have 1BTC, this time next week it might be worth 1.2BTC, then you've made a profit.
1177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I make money from my Bitcoin Mining? and other questions on: May 24, 2011, 02:53:02 PM
how do I eventually turn this into real cash into my paypal account
bitcoin is real cash, paypal is promise of debt money if you're nice

Ok, well I have found Britcoin to use to make payments rather than Mtgox and with that I can avoid Paypal altogether. I now just needs to figure out how to make my shares, non stale.

Make sure your system clock is correct aswell.
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I make money from my Bitcoin Mining? and other questions on: May 24, 2011, 01:09:21 PM
I presume your mining in a pool, so this is how it works

You generate 'shares' > submit shares to pool > pool sends your cut to your bitcoin client > you send your bitcoins to your account at MtGox > checkout to paypal or something

haha, omg thanks C;
1180  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: where to start mining? on: May 24, 2011, 01:01:42 PM
Never use the CPU mining on the bitcoin client, it is SO outdated it's not funny. You need a good GPU miner (I prefer poclbm), to get good results, and even then you should be using a pool. Read the basic tutorials and look at the wiki for some more info Smiley
