LOL.. Bangladesh is in some early trouble. After winning the toss, they thought that it will be another cakewalk for them. But things turned out a bit differently. Mitchell Santner, who was included in the playing XI after getting dropped for the first test has already proved his worth by picking up the wicket of Zakir Hasan. Mahmudul Hasan Joy was nabbed by Ajaz Patel. Glenn Phillips will act as the third spinner for New Zealand. There are indications that Bangladesh has prepared another minefield, with undue advantage for the spinners.

@synchronym how can you blame the player’s when the WI board was paying them peanuts to play for the national team and on top of that the team often wasn’t given the best facilities hence I sympathise with the player’s. Furthermore if England lose today then I feel that the selectors may roll in changes because they’ll want England to immediately recover in this format.

First of all, the players are not being paid "peanuts". They are being paid handsomely but then they can't expect salaries at the level that the BCCI or the CA are paying their players. That being said, the players are being allowed to take part in various franchise T20 leagues and earn fat paychecks (something which boards such as BCCI doesn't allow their players to do). And let me be clear on one thing. The value of a player in different T20 leagues depends also on the performance of the national team. If the national team doesn't qualify for major ICC tournaments, then the players themselves get less exposure.

Anyone following the Abu Dhabi T10? Tom Kohler-Cadmore yesterday managed to score 69 from 19 balls for Deccan Gladiators against Northern Warriors. The target was 101 runs from 10 overs, but Deccan managed to cross the target in just 6.1 overs. A few group phase matches are still remaining in the tournament, and right now the Gladiators are leading with 8 points from 6 matches. Team Abu Dhabi on the other hand are at the bottom, after losing all their matches so far. The inclusion of Kyle Mayers and Dwaine Pretorius hasn't worked for them.

The second match is also going to take place in a ground (Shere Bangla National Stadium) that can be considered as very supportive for the spinners. Given this, I don't think that there is much of a chance for a New Zealand victory. Anyway, their spinners (Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi) failed to take wickets at regular intervals during the first match and leaked too many runs. I believe that it will be good for the Kiwis to include Mitchell Santner in the playing XI for today. Either Ajaz or Ish needs to sit out as their form is not good.

Sadly eliminated from the 2023 ODI World Cup, the West Indies cricket team started losing its past glory. But after a long time, they managed to erase that regret by defeating the host champions English in their own country.
The second ODI match will be played at the same venue where the first ODI match was played but in this case the toss will play a very important role in the victory. As it is a day-night match, night time can facilitate Dew to bat. However, to win the three-match ODI series, it will be assured if West Indies win today. On the other hand, to maintain the chances of winning the series, I see no alternative but for England to win.

Look at the England team selection. Do they really expected to win against West Indies, without payers such as Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes? Sam Curran is there, but then he went for close to 100 runs in the first ODI. These bilaterals hardly matter outside the respective countries and that maybe the reason why ECB sent a second string side to West Indies. The BBL is starting in a few days from now and a number of English players are participating in that league. For them, BBL maybe more important when compared to this useless series.

You will see West indies players everywhere in the league.. old players such as chris Gayle, Narine , Jason holder, pollard and many other are busy everytime with any league. Currently if you check the squad of T10 League you will find many top west indies players.. This clearly show that West indies players have high demand in league. If IPL restrict WI players then I think all matches interest will be affected.

The main thing is to use these players wisely.. If same players can performance in the league then what is the reason they couldn't qualify for the world cup.. why their rank is going down despite of quality players.. These are the some questions which WI cricket board should think and make proper improvement.

Proliferance of T20 (and T10) leagues is only one of the many reasons why the quality of West Indian cricket has gone down over the past two decades. There are many other reasons such as the rivalry between the islands, and selection policy that is influenced by race and religion. And then WICB continues to be one of the most incompetent and corrupt cricket boards among all the full member nations. The continuing emigration of West Indian youngsters to United States and European Union is not helping it either.

By the same logic, what would you call the Indian team?

They have been losing semis and finals (CT, 2 WTC, ODI) like it's a normal routine for them. Kiwis at least won the WTC finals, although I still have a reservation on their qualification for various reasons, but they still won it.

New Zealand won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship Final. India once again lost out in the finals. But back then, New Zealand was the best test team. They had exceptional pace bowlers in their squad such as Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson. And the batting was boosted by Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham. But now they are a mere shadow of what they were once. Some of the players have retired, while others like Jamieson and Latham have gone out of form.

In T-20 he surely doesn't deserve the spot because there are plenty of good batters are available in the squad.

He was awful in the ODI World Cup but people forget that just before the WC, he was one of the top performing batters for the Proteas so you can't drop the inform batters. The quota system hardly matters when someone is performing.

On paper he looks strong in the ODI format. But on closer look, his stats are not as good as they seem to be. Out of 38 ODI matches he played, 7 are against either Ireland or Netherlands. Against India, his average is 34.40 and versus Pakistan it gets only slightly better at 35.25. Average against Bangladesh is 29.50. In short, he struggles against sub-continental teams. Even if he deserves a spot in the ODI squad, what makes him so special that he is selected as the captain? I haven't seen any extraordinary captaincy skills from him.
1169  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 05, 2023, 07:46:59 AM
It's one thing to be included in squad because of color, but selecting captain due to same is just bad state of affairs, captaincy should be based on skills only.

There is photo circulating of him seen sleeping during wc team captain's meet-up, I was like c'mon make someone passionate your team's captain.

In my place there is a saying that there is no value for something that is acquired without any effort. The same is applicable with the case of Temba Bavuma. He got in to the team as a result of his race and became the captain for the same reason. That maybe the reason why he is not putting any effort into his game. Anyway, CSA just doesn't care. If they don't force all the good players to emigrate to other countries, then South Africa would be one of the top teams in international cricket. But they just doesn't bother.
1170  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Women's Cricket Prediction & Discussion - T20 & ODI on: December 05, 2023, 06:42:07 AM
Pakistan Women's team won the match in a a comfortable manner chasing the target of 127 runs. The important thing, Pakistan Women have won in the home ground of New Zealand, which used to have completely different pitch conditions. Within an hour the second T20 match gonna start between New Zealand Women and Pakistan Women. The winning probability were in favour of New Zealand and they'll surely play better so to keep the chance of winning the three match series. Pakistan Women's on the other side want to win the series.

Winning the series against New Zealand can be considered as a big achievement for the Pakistani women. The state of women's cricket is not good there. Even the men's domestic tournaments are in disarray and the PCB doesn't give much importance to the women's game. They don't even have a proper first class competition for women. The PCB was supposed to start WPSL sometime this year, but now no one is talking about it. And also, once Ramiz Raja was replaced with Najam Sethi, the focus on women's cricket has declined within the PCB.

Anyone following the Ireland Emerging Players tour of West Indies? So far the performance from the Irish have been pathetic. They are losing matches to West Indian domestic sides by huge margins. There was a match between Ireland Emerging Players and West Indies Academy that got completed yesterday. Academy won by 432 runs, after bowling out the Irish for 72 and 143. And the Irish squad had players such as Stephen Doheny and James McCollum who had played for the Irish senior side. The future of Irish cricket looks difficult, IMO.
1172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 05, 2023, 06:08:45 AM
For India vs SA t20/odi series, Markram will lead the team, certainly a better choice than Bavuma. Bavuma will still lead in test series tho, probably a suited format for him.
South African captain Bavuma has been criticized for his captaincy in this World Cup because many of you can tell how well he has been able to fulfill his captaincy duties. But his batting as a captain was not good at all that is why he was removed from T20 and ODI captaincy. In fact, if Bavuma takes the captaincy in Tests, he can definitely make himself more perfect.

Bavuma is neither suitable for test nor for the limited overs format. His captaincy skills are pathetic. All he can do is to take credit for the hard work of others. I would like the South African selectors to end their race based selection policy, but we all know that it is never going to happen. Personally I believe that South Africa would perform better if someone like Markram or Miller is the captain. But for now, CSA prioritizes race over performance and therefore Bavuma will continue as the captain for the next 5-10 years or so.

When I understood cricket roughly, I understood West Indies as a strong team at that time and now West Indies has become a team like Zimbabwe. Those players don't want to play for the national team who get called for various tournaments but those players play for the national team who don't get a chance to play any franchise tournament. Still there are many talented players in the West Indies team, if West Indies want to improve their cricket then they must increase the facilities of the players and spend money behind the players. With the increase in salary allowances, the players have to prioritize playing various franchise tournaments and organizing regular domestic series only if this team can get back to its former glory.

Salaries with the national team would always be lower than what the players get from franchise cricket. For example, even in India the top players receive around $2.5 million per year from the IPL franchises, while the national contract is worth only a fraction of that amount. And this is the case with all the cricket boards around the world. And already some of the players are choosing franchise leagues over national duty. Trent Boult of New Zealand is a perfect example. And the ICC can't do much about it.

England's defeat was not very surprising. First of all they are not in good form, as evident from their performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup. And then they sent a second string team to West Indies. None of the first-choice bowlers (Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson.etc) were included in the squad and quite predictably their bowling attack struggled against the West Indian batsmen. The batsmen put up a very competitive total at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, but the bowlers couldn't defend it. Rehan Ahmed had a good outing though (10-0-40-2).

Essentially this was a series between second-string sides from both India and Australia. And in the end, it was proved that India had better player depth and reserve strength. Australia's experiment largely failed, although a few players such as Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie and Ben McDermott
showed a lot of promise. Now the focus shifts to South Africa, and the first T20I between India and South Africa will be played on 10th December at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. It is a short series, with just three matches.

All done. New Zealand dismantled by Taijul Islam (6 wickets for 75 runs). Only Daryl Mitchell could put up any sort of resistance in the 4th innings, although Ish Sodhi and Tim Southee added a few runs towards the end. Next match will start on 6th December and will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur (another ground that offers a lot of support for the spinners). New Zealand need to make necessary changes in team selection. Sodhi and Ajaz Patel are not doing their job and I will be surprised if they are included in the playing XI again.
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 02, 2023, 07:22:45 AM
I was quite surprised looking at the bowling figures for India. The two spinners (Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi) returned 8-0-33-4, while the three pacers (Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan) returned combined figures of 12-0-119-3. If this is the case, then I don't understand the point in including 3 pacers in the playing XI. It should be the other way around, i.e three spinners and two pacers. Maybe for the next match they can replace either Avesh Khan or Mukesh Kumar with one of the spinners (Washington Sundar?).
1178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 01, 2023, 03:03:26 PM
India may end up at around 180 it seems. After 19 overs, they are 168/6. Rinku Singh is still there along with Deepak Chahar, but he is rapidly running out of partners. But the pitch at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium seems to be more supportive of bowling compared to the other surfaces in which the matches were played so far. It will be interesting to see how the Australian batsmen would fare against Indian bowlers such as Deepak Chahar, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar. On top of that they need to deal with the spin of Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi.
1179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 01, 2023, 02:57:12 PM
Bangladesh will definitely win this Test as Bangladesh's spin bowling has been so successful that 7 wickets have fallen for 113 runs. However, in the fifth day's play, Bangladesh will win only if they must fall the remaining three wickets in the first session. But it will be easy for Bangladesh to collect the rest of the wickets as the later batsmen are not so experienced. We are all eagerly waiting to see the win in Bangladesh.

In the wider cricketing world, there is hardly any relevance for this series. New Zealand is once again performing poorly in sub-continental conditions, and Bangladesh doesn't gain anything by winning matches under helpful conditions. Matches like this one are the reason why test cricket is dying. And it's not like star players are not participating. In this match they had players such as Kane Williamson and Tim Southee taking part. But in the end, the outcome is as per expected lines and the only time when this match looked exciting for me was when Williamson scored the century.
1180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 01, 2023, 02:32:50 PM
Rinku Singh just hit a monstrous six of the bowling of Ben Dwarshuis. Looks like India may reach a total of 200 plus at this rate. But Ruturaj Gaikwad just got out, giving Tanveer Sangha his second wicket. But as long as Rinku is there, hopes for 200 will be alive for India. Next to come is Jitesh Sharma, and after that it will be the turn of Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar. India needs to be a bit cautious there, as they need someone to support Rinku from the other end. A couple of quick wickets, and they will be in trouble.
