1161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banking scams ...How are Bitcoin better? on: September 29, 2023, 11:55:46 AM
So, I was thinking... How can Bitcoin be better? Can we find better solutions for these attacks and will these solutions still give us ease of use? (No complexity but still user-friendly)
Bitcoin is already better because there are no cards and the chances of being scammed similarly to some bank scams have been reduced already to the least. If you will loose bitcoins to scam or to thieves, it is because of personal reasons like ignoring security tips like keeping your key safe, not clicking links you do not understand, or not acting fast enough to follow some security advice. If security tips and advice can really be followed, you will never be a victim of any form of scam.
The post is aimed at seeking ways Bitcoin can offer solution to the problem already identified. I think this should challenge us as believers in Bitcoin to manifest our creativity by proffering Bitcoin-based solution to the identified problems. I have once used Swipecoin which is pretty decent and cool to use. It was a wonderful Bitcoin payment system that was able to solve my problem then.

To foster mainstream adoption of Bitcoin, there should be innovations that places Bitcoin as a preferred alternative to other payment systems. If we think in this direction, we could better contribute to the success of this amazing technology such that governments and the institutions will be left with no other choice than to align.
1162  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: September 29, 2023, 11:46:07 AM
I tried this before and able to sell last bull run but what I experienced to be more effective is still buying during dip. Although it takes a lot of patience, and you have to refrain yourself on thinking negative thoughts if Bitcoin took longer to bounce back. But still that's proven as profitable and working for investors who can let their Bitcoin stay on their secured wallet for long period and can wait for bull run before selling.
I have learnt never to sell my Bitcoin with the hope of buying it back  when price supposedly reduces. There is a high chance you will never replenish the Bitcoin. So I feel this pattern of buying at the dip and selling at the peak will not work for everyone as not everyone have the discipline to do that. Besides, is there any way to completely determine what the dip and peak are?

Assuming you bought Bitcoin around $8k and some around $15k, probably you bought lets say 5 BTC in total. If you sold this in 2021 around $60k, this represent a descent profits. fast forward to today, there are high chances you have not replenished your portfolio with 5 BTC and this means even if you might have more money in fiat, yu have depleted your Bitcoin portfolio and anything that makes Bitcoin create a new ATH, you might likely be depressed seeing that your overall decision was not the best. On the other hand, you have kept a large chunk of that money as fiat, there is the possibility you inflation would have eaten deep into the money.

The ultimate aim of every believer in Bitcoin will be to own Bitcoin. In other words, you can not be a true Bitcoiner when you are overly ready to deplete your portfolio at the sight of profit even though you have the intention of buying it again at some point as this have turned to a game of probability. It is not a good position to be in my opinion.
1163  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin October Month Performance on: September 29, 2023, 08:44:53 AM
Bitcoin October Month Performance

🟢2013 → 60.79%
🟢2015 → 33.49%
🟢2016 → 14.71%
🟢2017 → 47.81%
🟢2019 → 10.17%
🟢2020 → 27.7%
🟢2021 → 39.93%
🟢2022 → 5.56%
⚪2023 → ?? %

What do you think?
How much will Bitcoin pump this October? 👀

Comment Your opinion ⬇️

From your analysis, it is pretty obvious that October have always been a good month for Bitcoin. The least gain in October being 5.5% is a huge rise if you ask me and if we maintain that this year, it might signify that the bulls are getting involved earlier than anticipated in respect of the bull market that is expect to kickoff next year following the Bitcoin halving.

I will keep this post in mind and use it to monitor market developments as we enter the last quarter of this year. I think it is wise for those still expecting further dips to start thinking twice.
1164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting Tips for Consistent Profits on: September 29, 2023, 08:25:55 AM

Strategy Tips for All Sports Bets

Tip #1: Know the bet you’re making
Sounds simple, right? It should be, but sometimes it isn’t. For example, tennis and soccer employ what’s called a handicap line. The handicap line is similar to an against the spread line in football betting.

But in football, it’s rare to see a spread line that’s not at -110, or 10% juice. In soccer and tennis, we often see lines like Barcelona -2.5 goals versus Betis at -147.

You can bet on MLB run lines, which are almost always at -1.5 or +1.5 runs but with various risk versus reward signifiers. A run line could be +2.5 at -240 as an example, which means to profit $100, you must risk $240.

Tip #2: Understand risk versus reward
We touched on risk versus reward in Tip #1. It’s so important, we should spend more time on the subject.

What is risk versus reward? When we say we are risking something, it means we are putting some up of value for a potential reward. We risk things all the time.

When we get into our cars, we are risking the chances of getting into an accident. Depending on where you live, try driving in Bangkok to get what we’re saying here, the risk of driving and getting into an accident could be high or low. It depends. The risk exists, though.

In sports betting, we risk our money, our hard earned dollars, for potential monetary rewards. So we must weigh the risk against the reward.

Weighing risk versus reward is discovering underlay and overlay opportunities.

You have made an excellent post and that I truly commend you for. This completely agree with my position that betting requires skill and strategy and not entirely on luck. If one can draw out a plan and following the plan diligently, then progress will surely be the result.

I think many people missed it at your second tip. A lot of gamblers rarely apply risk to reward in their gambling that is why you see a player betting on a 1:1 risk to reward when the probability is already in favour of the bookies. Proper risk to reward should be at least 1:3 so that one win can cover three losses. This is the only way to survive downtime.

Once again thank you for the post because I can already see wonderful suggestions and contribution from experienced guys. We learn everyday.
1165  Economy / Speculation / Re: After the bull-run plan. on: September 28, 2023, 03:30:05 PM
Many people cycle trade btc.   They buy the dip and hold till they make 4x or better profit.

So if you grabbed coin at 15 or 16 k you may want to sell most of your coins at 69k and up.  Then buy at the next crash.

This is the exact strategy that should be implemented. Most people are just too impatient to wat through the long bear markets to see the green shoots of recovery & subsequent raging bull market. Buy during bear markets, sell some during bull markets, buy back cheaper in the next bear. It’s a simple, yet very effective strategy, it’s just most people are still incapable.

I never sell Bitcoin with the intention of buying it back for cheaper to earn a profit. If I did, I likely would have missed out on thousands of percent in gains. If you believe Bitcoin will remain the best investment in human history, why trade it? Is the best investment in the world not good enough for you that you need to risk missing out on the moon shot to try and make a few extra percent?
This is the mistake many people normally make when they see some profits. I remember some people that sold during the peak of 2021, they never bought Bitcoin back and are out of Bitcoin now. Many of them have even been gambling with altcoins thinking they could catch something that can give them multiple of their investment as profits and as you know, they often get wrecked. So, just like you have rightly said, it is never a wise thing to sell Bitcoin with the hope of buying it back... The chances of not getting back in is high and most times, you might not find something so reliable like Bitcoin to put the money in... it will just turn to another perennial regret.

Bitcoin is an asset that will always appreciate in value so the best is to ensure that seeing reasonable profits will not make someone sell when there is no urgent need for the money. To me it is HODL till we pass it to the next generation.
1166  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Joe Biden Appoints Two Nigerians As Special Advisers on: September 27, 2023, 11:26:47 PM

1167  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The 51% threats on Blockchain on: September 27, 2023, 08:21:10 PM
In a successful 51% attack double spending is possible, this allows attackers to spend same coin twice.
Yes, there is double spending, but not in a way that the attacker can spend the coin twice. This is how it happens, the coin that has been confirmed before would be reversed and be spent by the attacker. That is why it is good to let your bitcoin transaction to have more confirmations because the higher the confirmation, the lower the possibility of such double spending. 6 confirmations is advised.
Double spending is an old form of attack that did not last long before people became aware of it. It's solution is as simple as not releasing Bitcoin in a p2p transaction until payment is confirmed released. With proper awareness and basic security consciousness, I don't see that as much of a threat.
1168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: September 27, 2023, 07:41:18 PM
Chelsea is very ambitious in looking for opportunities to win trophies in the FA or League Cup competitions, maybe Pochettino will try to raise the enthusiasm of his troops to rise in other paths besides the EPL. But Brighton also won't let Chelsea party, they will fight as hard as possible to win tickets to the next round. Morally, Brighton is superior.
I understand that league cup is totally different from the premiership competition, however, I don't know what you are seeing in Chelsea but from all indication, nothing have changed as regards the Blues. Tonight the may still loose to the Seagulls who are in the best form, winning their recent two away matches and scoring seven goals while conceding only two. This is what Chelsea have to contend with and I don't seek the weak Chelsea pulling any surprises.
1169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Inspired Me To Invest In Bitcoin. on: September 27, 2023, 04:47:13 PM
People are inspired by different things all over the world. Some are inspired by cultures, nature's beauty, situations, individuals, etc.  if the feeling to do something isn't gotten correctly, the expected results may not be gotten, hence leaving such a person in disappointment and frustration.
Here are some tips on why I invested in Bitcoin.

1. Bitcoin is an asset: Bitcoin is an asset because it can grow from the point of purchase, especially when taken advantage of markets that are falling in orife or have fallen in price to purchase as well as rise in price to sell. With Bitcoin, you can start small and grow big.
I feel this is the most important reason that make people to invest and hold Bitcoin. They believe that holding it can lead to increase in value and a corresponding profits. So far, Bitcoin have not failed those who have this belief and confidence.

Every other reason for investing will just add to the viability of Bitcoin and constitute speculation. Someone can buy Bitcoin to use for payment due to the accessibility,  speed and comfort that it offers... this does not qualify as investment. What I see as investment is buying with the target of making profits.

1170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some information on Bitcoin on: September 27, 2023, 07:10:33 AM
I think the discussion should be countries where Bitcoin is banned and not banned. If that be the case, the list of countries where people are allowed to trade Bitcoin or forbidden from trading Bitcoin is longer than this.

To set the record straight, the only country I know that have made Bitcoin a legal tender is El Salvador. However, there are many other countries that are friendly to Bitcoin such as Central African Republic, Argentina amongst others.

I know many will join with time but for now, the world super powers that controls the fiat system have not come to terms with Bitcoin. They wouldn't want to hand over their control of world financial systems so easily.
1171  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Why most people for naija believe say Bitcoin na scam? on: September 27, 2023, 07:00:32 AM
You go agree with me say bad guys don use Bitcoin do plenty illigal for Naija, so make you no surprise if plenty people get this mentality. If I even tell you how much me don loose untop this Bitcoin self you go pity me. You know as our country be, anything wey them start,  them go do am to the extreme.

The good thing be say, that era of Bitcoin scam don dey end for Nigeria as plenty people don already know the various formats them dey use. So I will say that more people now believe Bitcoin to be legit and not scam.

Plenty article Including post for this forum don show say Nigeria dey do very well for Bitcoin. More people are buying Bitcoin now as water don find level.... so I want make you face reality now and not dwell in the past.
1172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you seen gambling advertisements on TV? Opinion. on: September 26, 2023, 09:52:02 PM
Gambling ads is not regulated in my country, you can see gambling sites ads on YouTube, and local TV channels. This is nit good for the kids but there is nothing that people that have no say in the country can do about it and most people that wish gambling ads should be regulated fall into that category.
Unfortunately,  the situation in my country is the same... the adds is littered all over the television and actively running in many programs even kids program. I don't know if this is patt of the dictates of democracy and capitalism but doing business at the detriment of our children is not a great idea. The government and regulators literally look the other way while the media do what they want. Just like you have stated, we are left with the choice of protecting our kids by ourselves.

The frustrating thing about this is that kids learn faster than adults. As soon as the ads are allowed to run one or two times, they capture it and it stick to their brain. It is truly our duty to protect our children
1173  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No matter the pressure don't release on: September 26, 2023, 09:22:14 PM
I think every exchange has a way of tracking a failed transaction on P2P. That's why exchanges discourage paying to a third party account so it can be very easy to trace in case anything goes awry. Besides, every merchant has a guaranteed deposit they make before they are authenticated. In the same light, there are warning posts littered on P2P platforms that sellers shouldn't release coins to buyers until they're certain the claimed payment has reflected in their account balance.
I know of Binance, they use bank statements to settle dispute  should there be any. I don't know how effective this is and if it can be doctored; I rwallydoubt the official bank statement can be doctored else they will not rely on it .
Like you said, the traders have their assets in the platform already before entering the trades, so it is easy to freeze the assets should their be any suspicion of sharp practices. But then, it is always wise to follow the rules and take note of the warning signs.

You are senior member in the forum and should know that connecting your wallet, where you have this amount of money, to airdrop site is not safe. Are you sure you really took all the security threads seriously? There is nothing wrong hunting for airdrop but you should only do that with a wallet you have nothing inside. Most of the hacks is connected with airdrop and giveaways, this should send a signal that it is not safe connecting your wallet to the website.
I wish I can help you but I don't really know how. Maybe some other forum members who have the technical skill can assist. Sorry for your loss.

1176  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Even the official links aren't safe anymore. on: September 26, 2023, 01:47:41 PM
This is the handiwork of hackers. Cointelegraph reported that Huobi exchange have been hacked. According to the report, $7.9 million worth of assets have been stolen. This is another proof that centralized exchanges are not safe for storage of funds. Several posts have been made to show the danger of storing funds in CEX and I guess people are learning and making adjustments accordingly.

Let's hope they are able to arrest the situation before it get out of hand.
1177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: interest in the cryptocurrency on: September 26, 2023, 12:09:21 PM
To make life easier, you don't need most of the fine English spoken by the supposed experts. Simply carve out some portion of your funds you want to use for investment, buy Bitcoin this year and wait for 2024 and 2025 to see what great an investor you are.

Some of these grammar are really not necessary as they mainly apply to those controlling funds of others and are being pressured to return profits.
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 26, 2023, 10:48:14 AM
Why do many people like to talk about the past and always wish to return to the past while we still have a future? There is still enough time and opportunity for us to start everything again, and if we really regret the past and don't want that mistake to repeat in the future, then we should act now. Focus on bitcoin and stay away from altcoins.
There is a saying that "those who forget their past always repeat the mistakes of the past". Talking about the past is not a sign of frustration in the process but a way of appreciating where we are coming from, the mistakes and lessons learnt and how to be better positioned for the future.

Besides, there are lots of new members who can learn from these stories and make better investment decisions by avoiding our mistakes. So, the post might actually have achieved the intended purpose

I don't hate people who invest in altcoins because it's their choice and they're investing with their own money, it all doesn't affect me so there's no reason to hate them. But I have also learned about altcoins, so I will focus mainly on bitcoin and believe it is the best long-term investment.
There is no hate whatsoever! Why will you hate someone for making decisions that affects only them. It is their money and how they use it is entirely up to them. The post is only intended to share ideas while the decision on future cause of action rest with individuals.
1179  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: FG'll end corruption in Govt contract---AGF on: September 26, 2023, 10:17:35 AM
Some statements are not only funny but unfortunate.  This is like a tree saying it will cut its roots. How can a government built on corruption attempt to say they will end corruption in public procurement? People that spent billions of naira feeding school children that are locked down with their parents; a country where animals swallow money; a government that claimed to have lifted 10 million Nigerians out of poverty using recovered loots of Abacha?

I know Nigerians enjoy suiting news, so I guess this man is just telling the people what they want to hear even though that is not planned to happen.

I keep telling people that until we get so angry and decide to shutdown the country and reset it, nothing will change. The army will not carry out coup because their leaders are just politicians in military uniform. The only hope is in the streets... the day the street will be tired, then we can shutdown and start the rebuilding process.
1180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin kwoledge is not complete without bitcoin investment on: September 26, 2023, 09:07:26 AM
Knowledge about Bitcoin will be complete only when you can invest in Bitcoin. Even if we get a lot of ideas about Bitcoin or we know a lot about Bitcoin, if we don't invest in Bitcoin, we will not have real experience and if we don't have real experience, our knowledge about it will never be complete.
You are very correct @Patrol69 because investment in Bitcoin is the real application of the knowledge. I remember when I was learning forex trading where I started with demo account (an account loaded with virtual money, not real money). It was very easy making profit and growing the demo account but the moment you decide to go live (trade with real money), the story changes as it turn out it is a different ball game. With real money, reality dawns on you that forex is not that easy and most time one is overwhelmed with losses to the point you begin to think you are under a spell. Those who trade forex can attest to this. So, having knowledge of Bitcoin without actually putting money into it is like this demo trading.... you will never really know the emotional aspect of investing in Bitcoin and how to also gauge your level of greed.

Furthermore, Bitcoin is a very volatile asset.... how will you know the feelings that comes with gaining/loosing 10% of your capital within 24 hours? This is only possible when you commit your funds using the knowledge you have gained. In conclusion, knowledge of Bitcoin is the theory while investing is the practical.

I am saying this from my own experience, before investing in bitcoin I had one idea about bitcoin, and after investing in bitcoin I have a different idea about bitcoin, so a user should invest even if he knows well about bitcoin.
I started with Bitcoin from the angle of usage; I mean using it to make payment only and never saving it as investment. I did this for a while before I realized I could actually be making good money from investing and holding. It will interest you to know that these two  scenarios come with totally different emotions, mindset and approach. While the first part is just knowledge, the second part is investment.
