1161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon will ship 290 units by tomorrow, correct? on: February 27, 2013, 06:47:48 PM
YIFU said avalons will arrive in ~2weeks. So just wait 2 weeks
He said that 45 days ago, 2 weeks later 1 single unit arrived.

Lets not forget about Chinese New Year.
1162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon will ship 290 units by tomorrow, correct? on: February 26, 2013, 02:57:10 PM
I'm sorry to open this thread but it looks like no one is worried about this.
What's really happening? Can we have an official word?

Only ~5% of the units works properly?

Its not that people aren't concerned (worried), its that we need to wait and let a deadline actually come before filing your complaints.    See when someone says "X Date" then it usually means "X date" not 5 days before or 2 weeks before.   For some reason people can not seem to handle that.

What I hope is really happening is that they are building units everyday and shipping them.  Likely a whole mess of them were held up in customs and they are working that out.  Don't forget there is customs in your country too.  Yifu was really clear about their plan and when communications would come out.   You will need to just wait this one out.
1163  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Top 10 reasons why BFL will postpone their March 2013 shipping date on: February 26, 2013, 01:22:55 PM
#7 - Attorney General files and injunction order against BFL effectively immediately.  This order stops all production.

1164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New BFL update. 25 February 2013. on: February 26, 2013, 03:54:08 AM
Not a fun update.
1165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Latest update on BFL shipping 21/02/13 on: February 25, 2013, 10:11:38 PM

I'm Keith Apicary at this point.

I've focused on 'the classics' and resigned myself to not think about mining (first, second...whatevs) with shiny new, tasty technology.

*Goes back to playing Galaga*

You usually have much to say about BFL.  How would you evaluate this setback for BFL?

1166  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 11 pending preorders for Avalon ASIC @ Batch 2 on: February 25, 2013, 04:27:09 AM
you can't pay even if you tried Smiley they have been out of stock for a long time now.

in other fun news, there's like 4000+ "pending" orders because they have never been paid, and I've canceled another few thousand, which is not too surprising.

everyone who paid should be set as "processsing", still catching up to confirmation emails at the time of writing.

Thanks for the clarification and update.  The must be time consuming, having to wade through a bunch of empty orders.
1167  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What type of reg would you build for 120k? on: February 25, 2013, 04:18:17 AM
just buy 120k in btc...wait til the end of the year when it's at 100usd and sell = profit Cheesy
You can't guarantee that that will happen. In fact, you run a giant risk that the price will fall, and you would lose money. What would you do if the price dropped down to $20 or even $10 again?

My suggestion: buy 4 BFL MiniRigs. It's what I would do if I had that kind of cash.

That will give you ~6TH/s, and pull about 6kW of power. For comparison, 120k would buy ~80 Avalon units, which would give you ~5.3TH/s, and pull almost 50kW of power.
He seems to forget the lead time on these BFL units.  By the time you get them, it would worry about the profitability.
It all depends on how quickly you expect the network to grow. I'm personally looking at a difficulty of 100,000,000 sometime next summer, after BFL ships all their preorders, and all orders between now and then (aka they're all caught up). You could expect more than that, or you could expect less. It's all speculation.

I went to http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ and entered in these variables:
Difficulty of 100,000,000
Speed of 6TH/s
Power usage of 6000W
Time frame of 6 months
Hardware cost of 120k
Estimated break even point: 152 days.
Net profit after 6 months: 21309.79 USD

Difficulty of 50,000,000
Hardware break even: 71 days

Difficulty of 150,000,000
Hardware break even: 245 days

You can worry about the profitability all you want. Please show me numbers where it doesn't make sense.

I think we will be above 100 million by next summer.  Your numbers under these assumptions are solid and I like the website for calculations as well.  I think we will be around 50,000,000 by July and that is the earliest that someone could get there rigs from BFL.

Its use is in its portable and hand-off operation.  Where I can share files with many users without having to interface with each one.  The chat feature is great for live events.  Gotta use your imagination.

What is a Piratebox, its looks cool.   Sell me on it and you get a customer Smiley

^^^^ Basically.  Even though I think Josh needs to rise above the muck of BFL and trolling, I was hoping they would empower him more.  But who knows, maybe he has been and it was just bad before and we are giving him a hard time.  He just comes across cynical sometimes when I think instead him and bfl should be more transparent and understanding of people's frustration.
1174  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: 300%-return 3-year loan request on: February 21, 2013, 07:52:12 PM
Are you implying that Phil Zimmerman of Silent Circle does not know what he and his company is doing in regards to their new products?

The Z Real-time Transport Protocol (ZRTP) and related protocols by Phil Zimmerman are some of the bright examples not falling into that category. However, the environments in which these protocols are used in practice make the overall system insecure.

Please elaborate.
1175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL: Chips have shipped, on their way to US on: February 21, 2013, 07:10:21 PM
Whew. The first few of those owners are going to be very happy customers. It'll be interesting to see the pay-off times for the first rig and the last rig out of the first batch. Regardless, I'm jealous of even that last rig owner. Hopefully the price drops later this year such that I can warrant purchasing one.
Don't be jealous. Remember, they had to shell out many money for Minirigs over a half year ago.
Yet no one of them is moaning here. They are serious men who understand development and production problems.
(Not like the ones who cry at every thread for their not ready Jalapeno or still not shipped Avalon.
It's interesting the noisiest are the ones who preordered nothing.)

Your correct to a point, but also, with BFL's business practices and lack of customer support, it really left a bad taste in people's mouths.   There is a way all these companies could of handled things that would not of left so many people bitter.    I reached out to BFL to help with communications but instead they chose the biggest ******* instead that really reflects their company conduct at this point.   Serious men, maybe, risk takers?  For sure.   I am just glad there is competition in the mining hardware market.  That made my day.

1176  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Looking for constant dollar loan with payments in BTC on: February 21, 2013, 06:12:53 PM
You are correct, I seriously considered your proposal but in turn I believe BTC is going much higher based on it is being treated as a savings medium that people really can't affect enough compared to other savings mediums.
1177  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: 300%-return 3-year loan request on: February 21, 2013, 06:10:55 PM
...

There's already most things, but they've been made to sell and either do not truly achieve what's declared or do not achieve what can be achieved.

Btw. most of these sites use the best technologies in such ways that they're useless and they use them mostly just so that they can declare that they're using them and don't understand that e.g. the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is not very good if used in e.g. Electronic Codebook (ECB) mode or e.g. Cipher-Block Chaining (CBC) mode in certain situations which may pave the way for e.g. Blockwise-Chosen Boundary Attacks (BCBA) etc. As an example which anyone can understand, just look at Cryptobin; the service is useless, except for the timed-message-deletion feature as all messages can be decrypted without having them deleted and, yet, they call themselves "The Ultimate Secure Pastebin".

Are you implying that Phil Zimmerman of Silent Circle does not know what he and his company is doing in regards to their new products?
1178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement - ASIC mining processor by Butterfly Labs on: February 20, 2013, 06:36:51 PM
Just because you backed the BFL horse doesn't give anyone a blank-check to bash competitors with snide comments on any whem.

HA! You must be new here based on that statement Wink

And besides, not one ASIC company knows what they're doing...doesn't matter if it's BFL, Avalon, bASIC (clearly), or ASICMiner. They're all making it up as they go along since there's no set of rules as to how these devices should look or run, or how you should treat your customers either.

It is true, that kind of behavior is common on here.   These are all startup firms and they are all have their own growing pains.  This constant bashing is getting old, lets just see what happens and then talk about it.   Pick one or the other or none, and just accept that you took a risk and something could go wrong or it could go smoothly.  They all have pros and cons and some more pronounced than others.

1179  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN and SILVER PARITY REACHED! on: February 20, 2013, 05:39:44 PM
It is interesting to think that BTC1 is worth the same amount as an ounce of silver.  Different types of work went into each items production.
1180  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 11 pending preorders for Avalon ASIC @ Batch 2 on: February 20, 2013, 04:57:06 PM
BATCH #2 SOLDOUT
Doesn't mean everything is paid.

Probably this is probably a loophole to keep an order on hold, like SolarSilver states, but hey, if it works, why not..
If anyone wanna give it a try, it's ok for me if you first pay the order, and if it's fails, ofcourse you don't have to pay for it.
If it works, you transfer me the btc.

It is sold out and if any orders are not paid for, you will need to order in the future.  Once you go through the process, it will tell you they are soldout and it will not complete.
