1161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GUIMiner-scrypt: A GUIMiner fork for mining scrypt chains on: April 12, 2013, 12:05:28 PM
Hi Taco,

First let me say a BIG THANK YOU for providing us with an easy way to mine LTC. Now my issue - whenever I start mining the pc becomes unresponsive. The mouse will move like 3fps, windows open very slow etc. It still mines though. Current settings are int 19, worksize 256, TC 21712. Temps are fine - 71C on the GPU, 71 and 73 VRM1 and VRM2. I have tried lowering the int but it isnt helping. Any suggestion and wisdom highly appreciated.

System specs:

OS: Win7 x64
Sapphire 7950 ( 2nd one coming soon ) using 13.1 drivers
ASrock 970 Ext4
8GB 1333 Single Channel
Sempron X2 190
750W Seasonic
That is normal at that intensity, above 15 is "no desktop usage possible", try setting your windows theme to a high contrast one, it will reduce some lag and sometimes gives you a better hashrate!

could you extimate the expense of this configuration with 1300W of power for 24h/24 Huh

at the moment i pay 0,16 €/ KWh
Wow thats cheap electricity, here in the NL its mostly 30 cents (euro), we have a special contract at 23 cents..
1163  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New Rig- PLEASE let me know if I need to change anything (I'm a newbie!) on: April 09, 2013, 07:48:34 PM
Hello,

a few remarks from me:
To A:
As a pure mining PC your configuration is way to expensive. Mining is done via GPUs. You don't want your processor to mine, because it is way to inefficient. So you can save a lot of Money:

- Intel Box Intel Core I5-3570k
+ cheapest Celeron Processor you can get

Use the provided boxed cooler for your CPU as it won't have any load during mining.

The Harddrive is also absolutely unimportant for mining, because you start it once and, in ideal case, never shut it down anymore. If you run Linux, a USB Stick is enough, if you run Windows, a small Notebook HDD is enough. You have absolutely no need for a SSD.

- Samsung SSD Pro840 256GB
+ smallest+Cheapest (80GB or more) HDD from Store

The Motherboard is nice and expensive. One of it's unique features for minig is the fact that it has 4 PCI-E x16 Slots with a free Space between each of it. Yo you can install 4 Graphiccards directly onto it.
If you only buy three, you don't need such a powerful Mainboard. Then you could also use this combination: ASRock 970 Extreme4 + Small AMD Sempron Processor for around 100 to 130$ in combination.

-Intel CPU
-Asus P8Z77

+ASRock 970 Extreme4
+Small AMD Sempron Processor

16GB of Ram are also absolutely overpowered. 8GB should be enough fpr mining litecoins. For Bitcoins and any other Sha 256 cryptocurrency 2 GB is sufficient.
By the way: I hope you orderd the Three Fan Version of the Gigabyte Cards.

So Alone by removing the SSD and both the expensive Board and CPU you can save up to 600$ maybe more.

To B:
I know many here says that a case is like venom for a miner. I disagree. All my miners are in closed PC Cases in an air conditioned room. Coolermaster HAF is one of the best ventilated Computercases you can get, so go along with it. But to add point D: Buy more Fans. The biggest as possible for your case. (Think that is 2 200mm and a few 140mm Fans), and don't buy silent Fans. Buy big loud and powerfull fans with much airflow. And under no circumstances store your Rig in a Closet. That would only hinder airstream and cooling. Look for a free space where a bit of noise doenst matter and which can be ventilated with the outside.
Just to compare: My rig with 4 5850 Cards brought my Room from 15°C to over 45°C in one night of mining.

E: Easy: The more you overclock, the warmer your rig gets. Using cgminer, you can adjust that very well.
F: Nope. A Miner is like every other internet computer in your home. So that should't be a problem.

KJ
This +
Antec 900, it has better cooling than HAF, it has a BIG top fan, which pulls out all the heat, or set the 2 front and 1 back at max so air pulls trough everything at a high air rate.

1169  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: startende miner on: April 09, 2013, 03:18:13 PM
Met 5k zou ik 4 HD7850 van asus pakken (de DCII) =760 euro.
Goedkope AMD CPU                                           =40 euro
4 gb Ram                                                         =30 euro
MB'tje met 4 PCI-e 16x slots (als ze 16x zijn maar op 4x lopen maakt dat niks uit)  = 100 euro (ligt eraan welke)
Goedkoope HDD                                                = 60 euro

1171  Local / Mining (Nederlands) / Re: Litecoin of Bitcoin minen on: April 09, 2013, 03:04:01 PM

Dus in het kort: LTC is the way.

Wtf, this must be the worst pool ever, I get 30 shares and 15 Stales in 1,5 hours at 400 kh/s.......
And then, .1 LTC for a payout?! Goddamn, a fee and a pricey payout option + you need to have 1 LTC minimum.

Why ain't your shit a fair price, I mined 0.05 LTC in 1,5 hours, which is MUCH less than other pools, plus other pools don't require a fucking .1 fee and 1ltc minimun while your pool share numbers are like 5% of other pools.

NO recommendation this one, I'm sorry, but this made me just mad, and I don't get mad often.  Undecided
1174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: dedicated CPU mining servers on: April 08, 2013, 06:19:20 PM
Ok, step on the brakes for a sec.
So, I pay you 2.56 LTC for 2 "cores" that will be available to me for a month, those CPU's will run 24/7.
So at the end of the "lease time" I get my part of the LTC (which will be more than the 2.56 LTC I paid you).

I am interested, if you clearify it a bit to me Wink

Yes, the 2 cores will be dedicated to you and you can max them out 24/7 and mine any coin you want.

No, I cannot guarantee you that your income at the end of the month will be more than 2.56 LTC, the difficulty could double or increase drastically which would make the number of coins mined with this naturally lesser.

Interested in this as well, but I have a quick, odd question. If you could run these machines for 24/7, wouldn't it benefit YOU more to run them and not rent them out? Not that I wouldn't be ok with renting them and making some profit, don't get me wrong, but it just seems you'll make more if you just ran them. Sorry for being cynical =P

(reply merged below)

This.  OP is essentially selling $17 for $10.  Either OP is generous and foolish or OP believes the trade is a good one.  $0 for $10 is a very good trade for one party ...

It's not for certain its going to be $17 at the end of the month, it can be more, it can be much lesser, what I posted earlier was just a rough calculation, everything depends on which coin you're mining and how much that coin is worth and ofcourse the changes in difficulty and exchange rates.

Lets put it this way, The market fluctuates too much for my liking hence I'm offering this to those who like to "play".

I don't know what to do, at the worst case, I will receive less LTC, but still, it are my hard earned coins.
I'll see, but still count me as interested...

It works for me?  Grin

I know it's odd, the payout works for me as well. And my shares are being counted. I don't know what's happening with everyone else. Strange.

Well this is Bullshit.  Glad some peeps have access to their money.
It may just be that we have small amounts on the site (I mostly have 2 LTC before cashing out), and the pool's wallet can't handle huge cashouts becouse owner pulled some LTC out maybe?
Either way, I think they are safe, but it indeed IS a pain in the ass, especially with these market prices Tongue
I don't know how much you have unredeemed on the site (I don't have to know either), but it may be too much for the wallet to handle.
Im sorry if my post cointains nonsence, Im hungry....

One can't be DDOS protected, you can't, the government can't, google can't.
But still nice that a new pool exists.

We CAN be DDoS protected. Apparently that doesnt mean we could sustain a DDoS attack of 10 TB/sec, but we DO have a DDoS protection and we do pay for it Smiley ( its like to say that using condoms can protect you from all STDs: While its not true, it God damn helps   Cheesy )

Welcome aboard!
oh well, thats what I ment to say Tongue
10 TB/s is, well, awefully lot of data a second Tongue
I'll probably get my 1mh/s over to this pool, as Notroll.in pays redicilously low these days....
But I still don't get what PPLNS means, does it basically mean I have to be 24/7 on your pool to earn the same (or more than PPS) or can I mine like 12 hours a day with still the same (or more than PPS) payout?

NOOB QUESTION OF THE DAY........

(Wait for it)

(A)    What would happen if  I buy all the parts at microcenter and have them put it together for me?

(I have never built a computer before, I am a mac user, haven't owned a PC in about 8 years)

(B)    Would the main problem be overheating?

(C)    Could I remedy that (overheating) by installing a really good fan/cooling system?

A= You probably are going to pay alot of money to let them put it together for you (Really, I mean, all parts these days are plug&play, Im sure with some patient it will be set together in 1 hour)
B= If you buy the cards from a brand that has a good cooling sulution, you don't have any problem (I have Asus HD7850's, they don't get hotter than 52 Degrees on 50% fan on a monster OC and 19 Intensity, they may be 10 Dollar more expensive than other brands, but trust me, the DCII cooler saves you heat, bleeding ears and more, its totally worth the extra 10$)
C= Im not an expert on this, as my cards run godlike cool, and I don't think pointing a fan at you GFX is going to solve anything Wink

I hope this helps you a bit.
