1161  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: TEMPS, TEMPS, TEMPS on: January 04, 2014, 03:54:00 AM
Are you talking about temp measured on the board (under the heatsink) or directly on the BE100 chips themselves?

My board temp stays around 32°C right now in a vertical setup, but it used to go up to the 40s °C during summer. Sometimes I would get x'es instead of O's in the Chip: status line, but tuning voltage (V1 blades here) and a fan cleared the problem.
1162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 5 GPU problem (MB: GA-990FXA-UD5) on: January 04, 2014, 03:43:01 AM
I'm afraid the answer is that the Windows HAL will not recognize more than 4 GPUs (categorized as display device) on any system.

So the culprit would be the OS, not the hardware. If that is the case, I would suggest a Linux-based rig instead.

EDIT: more info in this old post that I just Google-digged.
1163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: enable DMD & GDC on: January 04, 2014, 02:53:08 AM
When ya gonna enable DMD and GDC Huh

The order book for both coins is still pretty shallow, I think the profitability of these coins would fall once enabled on Multiport
1164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: January 03, 2014, 12:21:14 PM
Thank you guys, you convinced me, you've got my money Grin

Now please show the world how Swiss guys handle things when it comes to timely delivery Wink

I can't wait already...

Cheers and Happy New Year to the Bitmine team!
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: January 03, 2014, 06:29:35 AM
For those who like alt coins and would like an automatic profit-switching pool like Middlecoin, but without automatic conversion to BTC, there is Multipool.us with a friendly user interface.
1166  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will it ever go back up to $1200? on: January 03, 2014, 06:21:24 AM
My best guess is that it will be back to $1200+ within 3 months.

Obviously, China triggered a selloff that chilled off some investors (i.e. big whales in China)

This is just temporary, it will pass...
1167  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [115 Th] 50BTC.com - PPS|Stratum+Vardiff|Port 80|QIWI,Yandex,Mobile,WM... on: January 03, 2014, 06:18:31 AM
What they are doing is literally robbery and they should be dragged to court.

Good luck with that... especially when your lawyer will ask you about the ToS.

This doesn't mean that it's okay that they don't refund the money, I lost about 1 BTC myself from my account so obviously I'm not happy with it. But the most efficient way not to get ****ed again is just to set the auto payout threshold as low as reasonable (i.e. at least once every day).
1168  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is it wise to use MtGox nowadays? on: January 03, 2014, 05:57:40 AM
I would also advise you to be careful, or at least expect delays with withdrawals.

Bitstamp is a safe alternative, especially if you are in the SEPA zone.
1169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 05:48:10 AM
I still believe there should be a better way to distribute the money supply.

I have bought a small amount of NXT already (about 3000) but even so, I can't imagine forging more than a few, hopefully, every month.

There should be some clever incentive to bring more coins during a 'land rush' phase of some kind
1170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.3 Released MANDATORY UPDATE on: January 03, 2014, 05:45:09 AM
Don't forget about the block reward halving at block 100'000... it will happen much sooner than other coins out there!
1171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple: Does it scare you? on: January 03, 2014, 03:32:24 AM
If Ripple scares you because you think it would get you rich, but you will miss the boat, then... buy some XRP Cheesy

There are so many nice things about Ripple, I agree with saying that it shouldn't be compared like "another altcoin out there". Both Ripple and MasterCoin are interesting to watch, even if they are very different by philosophy (open) and carrier (Bitcoin block chain), they share some features in common especially the multi-currency aspect.

BTW, I have more BTC on my (evil, closed source) Ripple account than I have XRPs Wink
1172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Profit-switching scrypt+ASIC Pool] multipool.us on: January 03, 2014, 12:30:57 AM
PPC confirms take ages.  It will be worthless by the time we get a payout?HuhHuh?

It's possible that it falls below BTC profitability at payout, but no one can predict the market

You can still use the BTC port to be safe if you don't want to take chances.
1173  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: January 03, 2014, 12:24:24 AM
Well, it's been over a month since Deprived has been logged in.

I do not know what the relationship is between him and Kate Craig-Wood, but they know each other and she has been similarly indisposed for the same length of time. I believe that she has had some personal crisis that caused her absence; I wonder if Deprived was similarly affected?

If anyone is interested in finding Deprived, I would suggest that contacting Kate would be the place to start. Anyone here in the UK?

I'm not in the UK, but thanks for the advice.

I will also post in the Bitcoin Foundation forum, in case anyone has a contact address to investigate further.

Sincerely, I hope nothing bad happened to him (just like creativex, although I had already liquidated all of my assets with him)
1174  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Moving Forward/Resolution Process on: January 02, 2014, 11:53:58 PM
You are wrong.

You see, you did not have the weex funds to do with as you please.

If they have been used for any purpose, as the blockchain will prove true or false, then you are up for criminal charges if you do not return them all.

Which is what I stated. I did not.

In other words, the most likely cause that you can't express would be something like: I did not, <gag>I trusted someone who had control over the BTC and misbehaved, but I can't say it, because I have started a legal procedure in hope for a bargain agreement / partial / total recovery of the funds, and exposing my facts / claims to the public could be used against my interests during that procedure</gag>.

Or maybe that person is a relative of yours. I don't know. I don't really care... should I?

While others seem so upset by the mystery, I am simply concerned about the recovery of my debt, and I think everyone should mostly focus on the most promising path towards that recovery. All the rest should stay a private matter, that's the best resolution for everyone. May it be as quick as possible!
1175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Edward Snowden. on: January 02, 2014, 11:14:28 PM

This is a very good piece that pretty much says it all...

I still believe the US has all the dynamics needed to move forward, adapt and compete in this new world setting, but those who missed the wind of change have yet to acknowledge that new setting first.
1176  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Moving Forward/Resolution Process on: January 02, 2014, 09:31:32 PM
Let's just focus on getting the next portal finished, the Ukyo.Loan one

With all due respect, let's rather:

  • Just focus here on getting the remaining 95% repaid to BF/WeEx users (this topic)
  • Create or join another topic for the Ukyo.Loan, because if you granted Ukyo a loan, I'm all sorry for you but at least you did (and he did not repay it yet), while "we" (here on the topic of BF/WeEx) never granted Ukyo any loan at all in the first place

I'm not denying your right to ask Ukyo's attention to repay his loan eventually, but let's not forget the above, please.
1177  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: January 02, 2014, 09:23:57 PM
And yes, of course I warned several times about that. People just didn't listen. Their loss.

I think you tend to oversimplify things a bit.

Of course, I agree that any amount of Bitcoin that you are sending away from your own wallets are at risk of loss, by definition.

But you have to admit that beyond the pure technical aspects of transactions and wallets, any economical system involves contracts at some point.

There is a significant difference in the semantics behind:

a) bitching about a breach of contract for "ethical" reasons (i.e. boo hoo),
b) defending one's interest after a breach of contract (i.e. due diligence)

While your reasoning applies pretty well to a), it ignores b) and makes it like there is nothing to be done after a breach of contract.

I will not waste my time and others' for a) here. If Deprived never shows up again, I will write off my loss as you say. I will survive, and yes, I knew it could happen. But I would be a fool and a bad manager if I wouldn't try to identify Deprived IRL and use any legal means necessary *and* proportionate to my debt due to recover it, by due diligence.

I'm just too poor to do nothing about it, at least yet Wink
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Edward Snowden. on: January 02, 2014, 08:19:11 PM
Always with the bitching. Try to apply that standard for once outside of US and see how many people even deserve to live to see the next sun rise. At least US produced resulted and even now ensures the stability of key aspects around the world.

You know what?

As a liberal, non-US citizen, I agree with the last part of your reasoning.

When I was 14 (I'm now 32), I was admiring the US so much, it was really the land of my dreams, as it embodied my ideal of a leading nation in the world, producing most of its technological advances, enforcing an ideal of freedom and democracy, etc.

I had the map of the US pinned to my wall. I learned the (US) English language, the geography and the 50 states, the history, the constitution, I impregnated myself with the culture through the exported TV shows and movies (at least the mainstream thing, carried by the mass media). I learned about Thanksgiving, Halloween, jocks and nerds, bullies in high school, the proms, US football and the cheerleaders, so many things we didn't have on the other side of the pond.

Overall, my vision of politics and the world — as a teenager in the 1990s — was that US standards were indeed far above those of other countries, and that what could be perceived as arrogance was merely a byproduct (or collateral damage as they would later say) of excellence, or simply plain jealousy. But all in all, the US deserved respect from the rest of the world because they had achieved so much.

It's hard for me to say that my vision has changed since then. Of course, I'm no longer a teenager and even the thought of any nation embodying any ideal seems totally naive to me now. But specifically about the US, I have visited that country almost 10 times in my life now and since that infamous 9/11 (or is it a coincidence?), and I feel like things have changed.

I still have a positive opinion, overall, and a lot of respect for the US as a nation in the world. But I'm afraid that many US citizens are blinded by the fantastic achievements of their nation in the 20th century. The world is evolving, very fast, and the focus of economical growth has shifted to Asia and other places in the world. The US is still among the world leaders, but it's got competition.

tl;dr:
You WERE right, 30 years ago.
Now that we're in 2014, I would strongly recommend more modesty towards the rest of the world, for your own sake!

Cheers

PS: some useful fact checking here (i.e. US still doing good but competing with many others)

... and don't forget about the debt, we are Bitcoiners for a reason ;-)
1179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoins for Edward Snowden. on: January 02, 2014, 03:13:25 PM
The NSA almost succeeded in making the whole encryption process a ridiculous masquerade by backdooring the PRNG

Actually, the NSA are doing a really good job, since they are by definition supposed to crack any kind of encryption, and establish global surveillance over global communications.

The question is why bother with "official" encryption in the first place, when we know that it's so weak. If I wanted to plot against the US Government, I wouldn't trust my /dev/random to be really (even pseudo-) random, when it comes from a "Designed in Cupertino" machine. Likewise, I wouldn't use any cipher algo that was designed by... the NSA itself Cheesy

IMHO, the real Snowden effect is just a confirmation that mainstream, consumer-grade encryption is a farce: one the one hand, you have the US Gov. (DHS etc.) admitting that they will spy on any foreign (?...) communications, on the other hand, you have legal systems that are sold with the claim that they offer "privacy". It's just not compatible.

Many non-US businesses (i.e. cloud) are already benefiting from the Snowden effect, and the trend should continue. It's so obvious...
1180  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: January 02, 2014, 08:30:46 AM
If only Labcoin was the only one, you can add the Ukyo/WeEx/BitFunder mess, inputs.io
These were all BLATANT scams, which only people blinded by stupid greed could fall for.

LABCOIN had the taste, the color, the shape, the smell and the sound of a scam.

Wouldn't say that for Ukyo's exchange, even though WeEx was always looming behind.
