11601  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-02-23] BIP39 Bug Does Not Affect Bitcoin Wallet Balances, Fix Is Imminent on: February 23, 2017, 12:30:08 PM
An Annoying But Harmless BIP39 Bug
To put this news into perspective, coders discovered there is something wrong with the BIP39 proposal. A different address is generated from the recovery seed instead of restoring access from the original bitcoin wallet. That is quite an annoying and potentially catastrophic bug that could affect thousands of wallet users all over the world. Copay is the one wallet known to implement this solution for sure, albeit others may be affected too.

This bug affects both the seed word paper wallets as well as any service using BIP39 as a wallet recovery mechanism. At first, it was believed Electrum uses BIP39 too, but the service no longer generated BIP39 seeds since version 2.0 was released  Other popular wallet providers, such as TREZOR, should not be affected, as they use a different blockchain source.

Thankfully, it does not appear this bug puts any bitcoin balances in jeopardy, according to one user. Wallets can still be recovered with the seed generated during the initial process, even though users may see a bunch of new addresses generated along the way as well. It appears mainly Copay users will suffer from this issue, although their funds will not be at risk by the look of things.

Issues like these will cause a bit of a panic, even though most of it is unjustified. Recovering the bitcoin wallet form a BIP39 seed may have to be done through a third-party solution to recover the full balance, which is more a nuisance than an actual problem. Developers are looking into this problem as we speak and an update will be released soon to make sure the BIP39 concept works as expected.

11602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bias Bankhouse (with proof) on: February 23, 2017, 10:51:39 AM
I can probably pull that trick and not be caught it cam.  Grin
Dealer was too slow even if you don't slow-mo it, you can
easily caught him doing the switch. Maybe the dealer is just
but he needs a few more practice. Anyways, they are likely
pulling this "act" for the longest time and this is the first time
they are caught. I don't know if the betting public can do any
"legal" means to prove that the gambling site is a fraud and
scam, so we must be careful on choosing which sites are
we gonna play.
11603  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drug free in the Philippines on: February 23, 2017, 08:58:43 AM
Aside from P2.2-billion bank deposits that President Rodrigo Duterte  allegedly owned, his common-law wife also had close to P200 million in separate bank accounts, according to documents that Senator Antonio Trillanes IV distributed to the media on Thursday
You believe Trillanes report  Cheesy .
Sorry dude but in the beginning Trillanes making such a fake news and report  to discredit President.
And lets wait to release the real bank accounts transactions of the President by the Anti Money Laundering Council.

President Duterte has already answered Trillanes accusation before he become
a President of the Philippines, so this issue has been settled before, I don't know
why Trillanes is bringing this up again. Dutete even went on record and say that:

If Trillanes can prove his allegation that I have amassed P2 billion illegally or if that bank account under my name has a total deposit at one time or even just half a billion, I will resign as President immediately,"

So it begs me question, why is Trillanes bringing this again? What's his motive?
Is this another ploy to discredit Duterte again? Your guess is as now as mine  Grin
11604  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How Much we can earn here weekly Through signature campaign on: February 23, 2017, 08:01:13 AM
So if you are planning to earn bitcoin thru signature campaign, you have to invest
a lot of time in it. Some campaign accepts junior member, but to become a junior
member you need 30 activity points which equate to being active at least a month
or so. Can you be active for a month then? Thats a month posting, but not posting
spam but post that will contribute to a discussion. If you cannot be that active, then
probably look for other ways earning bitcoin. You can find a lot here in our community.
GoodLuck!!!
11605  Economy / Economics / How to take advantage of ETF? on: February 23, 2017, 07:20:53 AM
Hey guys, SEC to decide fate of Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust on March 11.

Bitcoin has surged 14 percent in the past two weeks to approach all-time highs,
with interest in owning the currency remaining strong in China even after authorities
there tightened conversion controls in an attempt to curb capital outflows.

What strategy are you putting to profit specially in trading bitcoin?
Are you holding your bitcoin right now and will dump in later?
or are you just buying bitcoin and dumping it as soon as you
see profit ala arbitrage?

Can you please share your thoughts?
11606  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-02-23]ING and SocGen make blockchain-based oil trade on: February 23, 2017, 06:47:28 AM
From my Twitter feed:

ING and Societe Generale have teamed up with commodity trading house Mercuria to test the use of blockchain technology for a live oil trade. Blockchain tech was used to sell an oil cargo shipment containing African crude three times on its way to China, with traders, banks as well as an agent and an inspector, all performing their role in the transaction directly on the 'Easy Trading Connect' platform.

11607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Association of Canada on: February 23, 2017, 06:29:03 AM
Hello Everyone,

Canada is now one of those countries that embraces the blockchhain technology. The Bitcoin Alliance of Canada now changed its name to Blockchain Association of Canada.

One of their board members said that one of the reasons why they changed the name is because having the word Bitcoin on the name of the alliance makes it difficult for them to open a traditional bank account for the association.

However, it is a also a logical move since blockchain startups are rapidly growing in the country.

Tell us what your thoughts about this.  Smiley

Probably a good move on their end to change their name and somewhat remove
"bitcoin"->'blockchain" because of some issues and roadblock in the financial banking
industry.

This will also drive awareness across Canada and educate about what Blockchain
Technology is and what advantage it can give in many different sector or industries.
If Canadians can reap the benefit of an organization like BAC, perhaps they can
be a global blockchain hub in the future. I don't know if other countries has similar
BAC, but I hope others will follow and establish their own Blockchain organization.

11608  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-02-22] The Fate of the Bitcoin Market in China on: February 22, 2017, 03:59:25 PM
Bitcoin has gained a massive amount of popularity since its creation in 2009. The currency that very few people took seriously has become one of the most attractive on the market and China has played a huge part in its growth. The country was responsible for almost 90% of global Bitcoin activity. In 2016, Bitcoin was the world‘s top performing currency as it was the year before that, but 2017 seems to be going differently. It was priced slightly over $1,000 in the first week of January. The cryptocurrency has been on a downward spiral, especially after the People’s Bank of China issued some cautionary statements regarding Bitcoin exchange eliding investors to wonder if China has lost its belief in the power of Bitcoin.

Great trade for Houston who bought Lou Williams (18,6 points average) by the Lakers.
San Antonio and Golden State are stronger than Houston but the gap now is a little low.

Yeah. Good trade for Houston taking Lou Williams from Lakers and exchange of
Corey Brewer, who is not doing good in Houston. Its also Magic Johnson first
trade as the new president of Basketball Operations for Lakers.

Houston Rockets bench will be awesome, Gordon and Williams coming off the
bench. Although I think Lakers got the short hand of the deal, they are trying to
build a strong team next year because of the first round pick they also got from
the trade.

With Magic Johnson at the helm, Lakers will be a good team moving forward
and Magic will try to bring the "Showtime" again back to LA.
11610  Other / Politics & Society / Amnesty International Report (Duterte,Trump and Others) on: February 22, 2017, 12:22:13 PM
MANILA, Philippines - Amnesty International has lumped President Rodrigo Duterte with U.S. President Donald Trump, Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan, and Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban for allegedly sowing fear and "dehumanizing entire groups of people" in its annual report, "The State of the World's Human Rights".

During the launch of the 2016 to 2017 report in Quezon City on Wednesday, Jose Noel Olano, head of the Philippine office of Amnesty International, also noted that for the first time since Martial Law, the Philippines had a "special mention" in the foreword of the report, which covers the human rights situation in 159 countries.

11611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to explain bitcoin to teenagers or children on: February 22, 2017, 11:15:15 AM
If the teenagers is somewhat brought up with a family that is business-minded,
then is easy to explain what bitcoin and its advantege specially in investing
at the early age. There are a lot of brand of new wave teen agers who are
into the stock market at at early young age. So I think explaining bitcoin will
not be difficult to explain to a teenager who has mind-set of a investor at a
early age.

11612  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe in time travel? and if so where would you go and why? on: February 22, 2017, 09:32:14 AM
I don't believe in time travel because I haven't heard or seen someone travel
back in time and somewhat able to go back and in the present. No proof yet.

However, some scientist believe that time travel is possible but not practical.

The most developed of these approaches involves a wormhole—a hypothetical tunnel connecting two regions of space-time. The regions bridged could be two completely different universes or two parts of one universe. Matter can travel through either mouth of the wormhole to reach a destination on the other side.

But if its possible then I will probably go back where the price
of bitcoin is just a few dollars and probably bought as many as I
can and hold it...  Grin but hey it's just me  Wink
11613  Economy / Speculation / Re: ladies and gentlemen we are above $1100 now! on: February 22, 2017, 08:09:39 AM
indeed this situations is really good and all major exchanges has already reach it but i was hoping more and next target price would be $1200 i wish it happening in the near future but the main things is the price stable at $1000 or above
Though every exchange has come up with a price above $1100 right now no one is there to predict the precise reason behind the growth. This time China's influence is not felt much but analysts have mentioned it as an gradual growth. As the price too is stabilizing and moving forward shows it an real one.

what are you talking about?
price is always rising because of increasing demand. things like ETF (even with it not approved) and lots of other news such as the Megaupload one are putting bitcoin on the media and giving it so much attention. and this will bring lots of new investors and price always goes up because of it.
besides, Chinese are still buying bitcoin, they are just doing it off the exchanges you know names of.

Bitcoin is at its all time high right now. One big factor is the ETF, thats why a lot
of investors are pumping into the bitcoin ecosystem. Just imagine if the ETF is
approved millions or probably billions could be injected into the bitcoin marketplace
which will send bitcoin price surging to 2000 USD.

If not approved, then the price will fall but not that much I think. We will probably
experience a few ups and downs but the price will be steady at the range of 900-1500
at the end of the year.

11614  Economy / Economics / Re: ETF approval will mean to you? on: February 22, 2017, 07:34:02 AM
I guess with the approval of ETF, Bitcoin economy will have a fresh new funds coming in.  With this fund it will push Bitcoin price up since demand pressure will be higher.   Aside from that investors who are half hearted to join bitcoin will have no doubt come to a decision to join Bitcoin because of the effect of this approval.  With huge fund coming in, there is no doubt Bitcoin will reach $2000 this year.

Very well said. The price of bitcoin is inching to an all time high right now.
And if SEC approved its ETF, we will see a big leap in bitcoin price. I know
a lot skepticism coming from Wall Street analyst regarding the approval,
but i still hope it will and once approved, a lot of capital worth millions
would flood bitcoin ecosystem and such influx will cause the price to leap
to skyrocket price. So lets just enjoy the price rise as of now and just wait
what will happen in March 11.

11615  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-02-22]Northern Trust Goes Live With IBM-Powered Private Equities Blockchai on: February 22, 2017, 06:38:37 AM
NEW YORK, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Northern Trust Corp has deployed a new blockchain-based system built with International Business Machines Corp to record information on transactions involving private equity funds, in one of the first commercial deployments of the nascent technology.
The program is currently being used to manage the administration of a private equity fund run by Switzerland-based asset manager Unigestion, Northern Trust and IBM said on Wednesday.

The new blockchain system records documents and information connected to transactions involving the fund, such as investments by limited partners, a process which is currently highly manual. Other than providing a central record for fund managers, investors and administrators, the program also allows regulators to access the information when required.

Blockchain, which first emerged as the system underpinning cryptocurrency bitcoin, is an immutable shared ledger of transactions that is maintained by a network of computers, rather than a centralized authority. As it creates a shared golden source of data it can reduce errors and the need for reconciliation.

Financial institutions have been ramping up their investment in blockchain, also known as distributed ledger technology, in the hopes that it can help make some of their processes more efficient and cheaper to manage.

The new system, built using blockchain code from the Linux Foundation-led Hyperledger project, could provide greater transparency, efficiency and security to an asset class that has remained largely paper-based, Northern Trust and IBM executives told Reuters.

"We decided to focus on the private equity market because the marketplace is very manual today," said Peter Cherecwich, president of corporate and institutional services, at Northern Trust. "Benefits should include a reduction in cost."
The Chicago-based asset management and fund administration company plans to roll out the platform to other clients selectively, it said.

While financial firms have announced numerous blockchain experiments over the past year, the vast majority still have to move into real implementations, leading skeptics to question whether the technology's potential has been over-hyped.
Private equity was an ideal market for early blockchain adoption because it involved lower volumes of transactions than other asset classes but would benefit from more automation, Northern Trust and IBM executives said.

11616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2016/17 NBA Season on: February 21, 2017, 03:14:19 PM
It's too early to tell that the Pelicans now are a strong team and will likely to make the playoffs, we should observed first if the chemistry between the two will work. I'm sure Cousins will play the center position and if they want to win, they have to be focus all the time just like what Leonard is doing which makes him a big impact in the Spurs which I believe now is the team leader. Players are good but let's see if the coaching staff can do their job as well.

For Real? But i guess the Sacramento Kings are too tired of Demarcus Cousins
antics and bad attitude (technical fouls, ejections etc) that's why they trade him.
Anyway, I agree, its too early to call how Cousins and Pelicans will blend as the season
goes along. I hope Cousins attitude will improve a lot with Pelicans if Cousin and Davis
want to win a championship ring together. Looks like Sacramento King is starting
to re-build again with their new acquisition from Pelicans.

As GM Divac has said ""Winning begins with culture and character matters."  Wink

11618  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Philippines: War on Illegal Gambling on: February 21, 2017, 12:47:36 PM
President Duterte is truly amazing, he's not just focusing in problem, he's focusing at solutions. He will slowly kill everything that is illegal and step by step the Philippines will be not just drug free but free from all illegal doings.

That will make him a dictator. Look at history. Dictators never stayed in power forever. They were overthrown in due course of time, after the people get tired of their antics. The same will happen with Duterte.

Are you saying that Duterte will become a dictator for getting rid of drugs and illegal
gambling in his country? Let's define first what a dictator is.

"a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained power by force."

Hmmm, I think he was voted 95% in the Philippines if I'm not mistaken. He didn't take
power by force. He won the Presidential election. With that said, I don't think Duterte
will become a dictator or is considered a dictator. He just want to clean up his country
of all the corruptions, drugs and gambling. But if ever he become a dictator by declaring
Martial Law is yet to seen so we should not just jump into conclusion here.

11619  Economy / Economics / Re: After Chinese exchange comeback ? on: February 21, 2017, 11:58:52 AM
I'm expecting a high volume of activities once the suspension of withdrawal
has been lifted. For sure a lot will make a withdrawals to probably transfer
their bitcoins outside of China. Or maybe others much just change their
bitcoin to fiat(Yuan) so the price of bitcoin might rise but just temporarily.
Prices has been stable I think in 1000 USD lately and I will at that even
Chinese make a run of bitcoin again. We just have to wait and see.
11620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple, Microsoft, Mercedes Benz Accepting Bitcoin on: February 21, 2017, 09:20:17 AM
I read somewhere that Mercedes Benz bought Bitcoin Company
PayCash Europe SA. The primary aim of Mercedes purchasing a
cryptocurrency company does not seem to be their interest in
Bitcoin even though they have not implicitly denied it.

Bodo Uebber, Daimler Financial Services Board of Management member
reveals in a press release by the company.

"Mercedes Pay is a fundamental component of our mobility and digitization strategy. Daimler's new payment system underscores our ambition, as a leading provider of digital mobility services, to make the products and services we offer even more appealing."
