1181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Bitcoin Cash (BCH), How can i mine BCH? on: November 01, 2017, 01:43:23 PM
You need a SHA256 ASIC miner. Antminer S9 is a popular one.
1182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Has anyone compared drivers from nvidia on 1070? on: October 31, 2017, 09:21:23 PM
The 385.41 drivers work the best for me on Windows 10. Newer drivers aren't as good for mining.

1183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PCIe 1 x 4 reliable?? on: October 30, 2017, 06:17:12 PM
Biostar TB85 works adding one extra AMD RX series card with the splitter on the last PCI-E slot. The TB250 should work since the Intel B250 chipset  can handle up to 12 native PCI-E lanes. BitsBeTrippin also used two splitters on the Asus B250 mining motherboard to get 21 cards to work in Windows in his live stream. He also did a video review on using the PCI-E splitter boards.

60% of the time, they work every time. Smiley Seriously, they do work, but are finicky to get working with many motherboards and in most cases you can only get one or two extra cards per PCI-E slot.
1185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH + DCR Hashrate on: October 30, 2017, 04:09:27 PM
A 1070 should get 30+ MH/s on ETH and ~500 MH/s on DCR dual mining. Try adjusting the -dcri value in the Claymore miner to around 50.

The prime (CPU POW), hashing (GPU POW) and POS all use different minting channels with separate difficulties for each. Otherwise the CPU and POS channels would never solve a block.

Quote
Minting Channels
Prime (CPU), Hashing (GPU), and Nexus Proof of Stake (nPOS)

Block Time
300 seconds for Hashing minting channel and 300 seconds for Prime minting Channel for an average of 150 seconds
60 seconds for nPOS

Block Reward
Prime and Hashing Minting Channels: The effective reward is established by the reserve balances. These reserves have a decayed amount deposited every time interval of one minute. If the balance is below a given threshold, the reward value will be based on a time’s value of a decayed amount. This means that the reward will be given based on how long it was taken to create the block. This prevents the reserves from being depleted as large amounts of computing power jump on and off the mining network.

nPOS Minting Channel: The effective reward is an annual interest rate that ranges between 0.5 and 3.0% annually.

Minting Difficulty
The miner’s difficulty is calculated by a proportion generated from the time it took to create the block, and the target time. The target time is calculated by the NXS Reserves working to deflate the difficulty if the reserves go over a threshold. This is designed to maintain transaction processing in the loss of computing power to given channel, by aiding in the reduction of the difficulty to a more suited level.

I think it's a problem with how the miner and wallet display solo mining shares. The miner shows the share was found (block) and the wallet shows the block was submitted, but the transaction was never confirmed because it was an orphan. If you check the transaction list in the wallet there should be no transaction listed.

For one, the miner you linked is the POOL version. This is the miner I use to solo mine.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=657601.msg21261522#msg21261522

Otherwise the block you found was already submitted by another miner before you did (orphan).
1189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I'm Newbie in Crypto, Any Miner Recommend?? on: October 30, 2017, 10:55:49 AM
NiceHash miner is an easy way to get started. Just download the miner, add your BTC payout address and it will automatically mine the most profitable coins and pay you in BTC, once you meet the payment threshold.
1190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hardware hash rate to mine Vertcoin? on: October 30, 2017, 09:49:35 AM
Download the NiceHash miner (Nvidia) or NiceHash legacy miner (AMD) and run the benchmark. That will give you a good idea of your rigs hashrate for different algorithms.
1191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 8GB Ether Hashrate on: October 29, 2017, 09:54:42 PM
You need to overclock the cards to maximize the hash rate. Try setting the core clock to 1200 MHz and memory to 2000 MHz in Afterburner. You can also undervolt the core to -100 mV and set the power limit to -15% to save power.

I've tried that already, sorry didn't mention this earlier. So basically every time I try to increase memory clock and/or decrease clock speed, my hash rate slightly drops. Not sure whether its due to changes I've made or there is actually something changes. I've tried 1200/2000, 1250/2150 etc, but in any case hash rate just drops.

Afterburner works perfectly fine on my gtx 1070 and increase hash rate significantly but does not have any positive effect on my rx570 Sad

Reboot and try again. Sometimes Afterburner won't change the clocks after they were set once. I would also try the Polaris Bios Editor v1.63 'one click timing patch' performance timings on the original Bios and see if it improves. With the PBE performance timings and an overclock you should get at least 28.5 MH/s.

Any motherboard with PCI-E slots should work. With older motherboards you need to make sure you only use PCI-E slots with risers. Many have PCI slots that look like a PCI-E slot and the riser will fit in the slot, but PCI uses a different voltage and WILL cause fireworks if you try to use it with a riser.
1195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v10.1 (Windows/Linux) on: October 29, 2017, 03:48:52 PM
You need a monitor or dummy plug in the primary GPU for the AMD driver to read the fan speed and temps.
1196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to power more than 8 gpus that requires 6+8pin connectors with 2 psu? on: October 29, 2017, 10:50:29 AM
Server PSU's with a breakout board are an option, but the larger capacity ones run off 240V and are too loud for a living space. I recently ordered one of these dual 120V 2400W PSU's for my ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ build and have been very happy with it.

http://www.panto-tech.com/products/206-110v-260v-power-supply-2400W-for-miner.html

It has 18 PCI-E 6+2 connectors that I use for the GPU VGA power inputs and I use an EVGA 1200 W PSU to run the motherboard and risers. The 2400 W PSU runs quiet and very cool as long as you don't run it at more than 50% of the capacity. When you run it at more than that, the fans get progressively louder the more wattage you pull from it. The other thing is it doesn't switch on and off automatically when using it with a add2PSU or dual PSU adapter cable like a standard ATX PSU, so you need to flip the power switch on the PSU to turn it on before hitting the power button and must turn it off manually as well. For the cost of $180 shipped via DHL direct from the manufacturer, I think it works well.

The same manufacturer also has the same PSU with only the 18 PCI-E connectors and it's about $30 less, so I think that may be a better option since I only use it for the VGA power inputs.

http://www.panto-tech.com/products/207-110v-220v-power-supply-2400W-for-miner.html

BBT did a review of the PSU and has run it through various tests in his recent live streams and it's held up well. We'll see how it holds up long term, but for $150 shipped it's a good deal and solves the problem of not having enough PCI-E connectors for larger builds.

Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB or the Special Edition. Get which ever is cheaper. The Special Edition cards also have annoying blue LED fans that can't be turned off.

What memory timings show up in Polaris Bios Editor v1.62? All of my Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB cards have dual timing straps Samsung and Hynix. The Nitro+ cards also have a dual Bios, so you should be able to make a backup of the original Bios by moving the Bios toggle switch.

1199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crimson Relive Win 10 Drivers Now Support 12 AMD GPU's with Compute Workloads on: October 28, 2017, 09:00:28 AM
Since the blockchain drivers don't support the Creators fall update, there is no point in updating to v1709. The blockchain drivers worked for me on v1709, but it made the Windows UI very unstable. If you want to stick with the blockchain drivers, it's best to stay on v1703 and defer the Windows feature updates in the Group policy editor until a stable version of the new Crimson Relive compute toggle drivers is out.

gpedit ==> Computer Configuration ==> Administrative Templates ==> Windows Components ==> Windows Update ==> Defer Windows Updates ==> Select when Feature Updates are received

There you can defer Windows version updates for up to one year.

While in the Group Policy Editor you can also keep Windows Update from updating the the drivers.

gpedit ==> Computer Configuration ==> Administrative Templates ==> Windows Components ==> Windows Update and set 'Do not include drivers with Windows Update' to enabled.

There is also a new Crimson Relive 17.10.3 driver out, but according to the release notes only game fixes were added.

https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-Edition-17.10.3-Release-Notes.aspx

The release notes also mention the new drivers drivers have a known issue with 12 GPU's in compute mode.

A random system hang may be experienced after extended periods of use on system configurations using 12 GPU's for compute workloads.
1200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My Brain Hurts - Which GPU? on: October 27, 2017, 08:47:58 PM
I have both cards. The Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 4GB is a good card. It overclocks well for a 570 and runs cool. It uses a bit more power than my other 570's which are Powercolor Red Dragon's. With a simple 'one click timing patch' using Polaris Bios Editor' v1.62 from jaschaknack and a 1200 MHz core clock and 2020 MHz on the memory, I get ~28.5 MH/s and 740 MH/s dual mining DCR.

The advantage of the RX 580's over the 570's is the 580's uses faster memory, 8,000 MHz for the RX 580 vs 7,000 MHz for the RX 570, which can overclock higher. The RX 580's have better dual mining performance as well. The MSI Gaming X RX 580 8GB is a good card, but I like the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580's better. They Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580's run cooler than the MSI Gaming X RX 580 and I can overclock the memory to 2200-2250 MHz on the Sapphire vs 2100-2120 on the MSI. With the MSI I get 29.5 MH/s on ETH and 860 MH/s DCR dual mining.

My brain hurts even more lol Smiley

The Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 was an option but its out of my budget (another £50 per card).

It has to be one of the two above.  Remember, I can get 5x Sapphire Nitro+ RX570 or 4x MSI RX580.  Unless the 8GB on the RX580 is going to be advantagous in the future, my heart is pushing to The Sapphire.

Is the 8GB really going to help in the next one/two years?  Its if and butts.

Sigh..

Not any real performance gain from 4 GB or 8 GB. The main benefit is the RX 580's overclock better and have better dual mining performance, but they also use about ~40 W more power than the 570's. It really depends on whether dual mining is important to you and what your power costs are. As far as the Dag file, it won't reach 4 GB until 2020 and ETH will be POS only by then, so it's not really an issue. The MSI's have a 3-year warranty compared to two years for the Sapphire cards. I get RX 580's for $30-$40 more than RX 570's. As newer cards have more memory, the resale value on on a 8GB card will be slightly better than the 4 GB in the future, so the 8 GB cards will hold their value better.
