Really sorry to hear of your loss. Over the years I've generally had a good service from PayPal and ebay but then I suppose I've been lucky cos I've heard a lot about scams. But then you don't hear of all the successful ebay and PayPal trades.

It's tempting to sell BTC on PayPal because of the better return but that has to be balanced with the slightly extra risk. However, looking at all the alternatives (BTC-e etc) there's lots of stories of disappearing coins with them too.

Nevertheless it does make me sick to hear of people being scammed.

I would say that the avantage of paypal is not the better return (which depend on agreement), but the faster transfert.
1187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price has flatlined at $120 on: May 23, 2013, 10:02:32 AM
Where is the volatility? What's up? has BTC reached the mature  and stable status of the Swiss Franc? Where's the chop? My bots are bored!!

Why anyone would ever want to buy bitcoins now?

1) If it's for buying something online (legal)
=> stupid, it would be less expensive to buy directly with fiat (avoiding bitcoins

2) If it's for buying something online (illegal)
=> Yes, that's possible, but only a small market.

3) If you want to make money.
=> You need to find someone to buy it higher, which is unlikely without any use to bitcoin.

You can always pay in EUR or USD. You just have some exchange fees.

This.

Trouble is the big companies dont like accepting a payment method whos value is constantly going up and down day in day out!

Obviously noone is buying anything with btc ...
Even website that say that they accept btc, are just instant-converting btc into EUR or USD.

1200  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC hit $200+ again? im getting excited... on: May 23, 2013, 09:27:56 AM
sure enough!

will buy 1BTC for $200

will you?

Hey I have a sell order at $199.93 for 10 BTC, if you put a buy order for that price, Gox will honor it at once!
so please go ahead Smiley

Nah.. Gox doesn't let you buy higher than the lowest current asking price or sell lower than the highest bid price.  I found this out when I accidentally left a zero out of my asking price and it was executed immediately.  I thought I had just sold a bunch of coins at about 10x less than the current market price, but then I looked at my trade history and was glad to see that it was sold at the lowest bid price.

You got lucky Cheesy
