11822  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: $450,000,000 for a single painting. on: August 30, 2018, 12:23:30 AM
Not sure if this is the case here but these expensive paintings are often used for money laundering.  The value of some of these paintings are crazy, the Mona Lisa has been valued at over $1 billion dollars.

48 million dollars for a car is also ridiculous.  When your a multi billionaire though you have so much extra money you might as well blow it, can't take it with you when you die.

I don't think Monalisa or davinci paintings could be related to money laundry

I think contemporary art is more related to money laundry, as someone can just put a $30 chair upside down and it will be worth $3,000,000.

And Monalisa and davinci paintings are really worth a lot, because those paintings have a great influence over our culture. They are also scarse, as davinci can't paint anymore.

11823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cables - Ledger Nano S on: August 29, 2018, 07:46:51 PM

Can the cable be connected to a tablet or iPad?
PC? Or do you mean notebook?

The original cable has a usd output. So you cannot connect it to smartphones or tablets that doesn't have a usd input.
11824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mobile wallet clarification on: August 29, 2018, 09:39:23 AM
Coinbase offers a wallet service, which is not a wallet at all.

They lend you some addresses on their wallet and hold your funds for you. This is like a custody service.

It's not technically a wallet, because you don't hold your private keys
11825  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Cheap electricity available, need advice on: August 29, 2018, 12:58:07 AM
No, they are not asking for money I think the reason why they need to inspection some places in Venezuela because of illegal crytomining. If you heard the news months ago there is a big crisis in Venezuela and blaming illegal Cryptomining for power shortages.
Check this news Venezuela: Zulia Governor Blames Illegal Crypto Mining

So, I think mining small and private would be fine.

This makes no sense. What is the difference between a legal and an illegal cryptocurrency mining?

Unless you are stealing energy, this makes no sense to call illegal.

You cannot mine alts? Lol
11826  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Will precious metal coins return as everyday currency? on: August 28, 2018, 08:59:29 PM
What is happening in Venezuela and Turkey are temporary(hopefully) and desperate situations.
Trading chicken for silver is also probably illegal there ...

I don't believe metals will be used as a currency again, like in middle age.  Unless there is some sort of apocalyptic future (nuclear war, zombie attack, socialism).
Even without being used as a currency, gold/silver are a safe haven against crisis and can be an amazing investment.

If I were to buy metals (I hope I can buy some in future) I would probably buy an ETF, which can be easily traded at anytime. I believe there is no way back to silver/chicken pairs. Internet changed things forever.

With ETF I cannot get scammed, no one can steal it from me..
There are many downsides that we all know (centralization, coercion, government may take it away form me etc)... But those risks are somewhat lower than negotiating directly the physical coins. How do you know your coins are 98% silver and not 91%? Where will you store 10k usd silver? I am not a specialist and I could get scammed easily

If you are buying metal as a hedge against a total collapse, physical metal like your coins are way better.
If someone from Turkey had some Turkish silver ETF (if that even exists) they are probably fucked up, but I doubt countries like US or UK will have this kind of problems.

In Venezuela every financial asset became worthless because government use fake conversations rates against usd (like 1000x higher than in the dark market, which is now the real market).

What do you think? Why didn't you bought silver ETF?

@Thekool1s was right. By just posting posts in Megathreads is simply a way of posting shitposts. Just like what I saw in your post history Smiley
I guess I just didn't realize that by posting in those threads I am seen as such a parasite to this forum.  Shocked

Well, think for a moment if you don't realize.

Someone creates a thread"what's is going on with eth"
That's just a stupid topic , by somehow it attracted 15 pages. With 20 posts per page, there are  over 300 answers to that question.

At page 14 you wrote something. I didn't waste my time to read it, because you didn't read the previous 280 replies.
You just threw away some comment, with no context, knowing that nobody would read it, just to get one more post.

Do you realize now why is that considered shitpost?

I didn't look at many of your posts, just answering your question and I can see you got some merits so you can make good posts too. Take this answer as an incentive Wink
11828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mobile wallet clarification on: August 28, 2018, 04:38:59 PM
1. Is that risk free to keep Cryptocurrencies in a mobile wallet?
Nothing is risk free. However mobile wallets are save enough for you to keep Small amounts, such as the same value of your mobile device.

2. If my mobile crashed with active mobile wallet, will my cryptocurrencies lose?
No. When you create your account using a mobile wallet you will have to save your mnemonic phrase, which will give you access to your privatekeys. Privatekey will help you recover your funds anytime you want in all kinds of wallet.

3. What is the best mobile wallet for IOS (Apple)?

I believe Coinomi is the best mobile wallet for iOS.
It supports segwit and it is multicurrency.

I'll answer all of it, on question #1, Yes it is risk-free to keep cryptocurrencies in a mobile wallet, BUT there are still problems when in keeping cryptocurrency through a Mobile Wallet, which means it is not 100% safe, which means you'd have to secure your BTC somewhere reliable, my first option would be using Coinbase as your mobile wallet.

Nope, if your mobile wallet crashed, it does not mean that your cryptos will lose as well, don't worry about that!  Cheesy

Probably the best mobile wallet for iOs is either Coinbase or Breadwallet.

Coinbase is not a wallet, it is an exchange. You are spreading misinformation and talking about things you know little about.
11829  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Cheap electricity available, need advice on: August 28, 2018, 04:07:06 PM
I'm sorry but you live in a very unstable political area....that probably ends with....STAN

[...]

You would be far better off to stay SMALL and quiet. and private..under the radar and serve/help only yourself.
The cheap electricity is only blood in the water that attracts big bad hungry remorseless sharks

I strongly agree with this.

I have a friend in Venezuela in a similar situation.

He said that local authorities scan for high energy consumers.
Some corrupted authorities ask for money, because they know who I mining.

The best is to stay low and small in such unstable political areas.
11830  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I get started anonymously? on: August 28, 2018, 03:59:45 AM
I do not wish to mine, only to have a method of withdraw and deposit to and from my bank account. This is because I've been asked if I have a wallet people can donate to, and it's been asked twice so I figured it would be helpful to have.

Coinbase wants my SSN and a photo ID, and I'm not comfortable with that.

There are similar issues with CEX and Kraken, from my research.

Is there any wallet service that will let me use my debit card as a way to receive money? I want to have the wallet just so I have the option to accept Bitcoin or other coins.

Coinbase, Kraken, etc are not Wallets, they are exchanges

As you are a total newbie, I suggest that you get some mobile wallet such as Coinomi. (Download it on Google play or Apple store)
It's very intuitive, free and anonymous.

You can also try some web wallet, such as blockchain.info
I believe mobile wallet is more secure. However both are unsafe.

For security, considering buying a hardware wallet such as trezor or ledger nano.

All wallets suggested here are 100% anonymous.

But you are the one who is responsible for staying anonymous.
A good practice is to avoid using the same receiving address more than once.
11831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Invest in ICO this time, yes or no? on: August 28, 2018, 01:57:52 AM
I believe a good project may have good results in this bear Market.

However, even good projects may have bad performances now. It's safer to stay away for a few months.
11832  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin suggests a new fixed fee model for ethereum transactions on: August 28, 2018, 01:24:25 AM
Of course, its a terrible idea. Many of ethereum's core philosophies and engineering are hideous. Vitalik Buterin is in a political position where he must appease microsoft and other corporate sponsors of ETH and bow before their demands and so it shouldn't be surprising if ETH resembles Windows 10 in many respects. ETH is the microsoft windows of crypto currencies. It doesn't much resemble the linux equivalent to crypto nor the open source movement which gave birth to the classification of crypto currencies. (I think someone above covered this in an indirect way by saying that Satoshi Nakamoto had to be anonymous)

Vitalik Buterin always maintains a united front with the opinions of bankers as if he were reading from a script they had written especially for him.

My opinion anyway. Until I partner with microsoft and then I may be the one reading from a script.   Lips sealed

This Windows comparison is interesting.

However I didn't get your idea about vitalik and the bankers.
vitalik Buterin really acts in a weird way sometimes, but in my opinion tokenization model is revolutionary and it was a great blow to the financial system.

Now companies does not need to be funded through the stock market, they can be easily funded without any burocratic issue through ethereum ICOs.

Hi guys, just wondering what are the requirements of an account to be able to have a profile picture here in BitcoinTalk.

I've been using BTCTalk for 5 months now and I'm having a blast. Thanks!! Cheesy
You must be full member to unlock the avatar image.
For that you need 100 activity and 100 merit.

As you already have 120 activity, only 99 merits to go Wink
11834  Other / Meta / Re: Reason why posts cannot be converted to self-moderated after creation? on: August 27, 2018, 03:07:13 PM
A self-moderated topic has this warning on top:
Quote
This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic.
If you could change a thread into self-moderation later on, it wouldn't be fair for the users who don't want to be moderated by you.
An easy solution is to create a new thread, place a link in the old thread, and lock it.

This is right, and this is also a good a solution.
I think that's specially important in campaigns and bounties, because sometimes spammers just decide to spam in a certain topic for no reason, applying with multiple alts in a campaign.

11836  Other / Ivory Tower / about Yuval Harari book. Sapiens: A brief history of Humankind on: August 26, 2018, 01:26:37 PM
Trying to move away from politics and bitcoin subjects, I tried a different book.
I just finished reading the book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.
It´s a best seller. I really avoid reading those kind of best seller books, because they are usually not so good, and hardly worth my time...

However, this one is related to my profession and everyone is reading it in Brazil. So I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed it a lot.
The book is very interesting in the beginning.

He talks about the beginning of the mankind. About 100 thousand years ago at least 6 Homo species coexisted, including the Homo sapiens. In his words, freely translated from Portuguese:
Quote
It is our current exclusivity, not the multiplicity of species in our past, which is peculiar - and incriminating. As we shall soon see, we, sapiens, have good reasons to repress the memory of our brothers.
Later on, he talks about studies that traced 4-6% of our DNA came from other Homo species, such as Homo Neandertal and Homo habilis, suggesting we somehow mixed with them.

I found that fascinating. Almost a sci-fi world with different humanoids lol

Later on, he talks about how our ancestors lived before the agriculture. This book changed the way I imagined the Stone Age.

It´s sad to see that on the second half of the book he starts a globalism propaganda. He talks about how empires made people´s life better, and that a global empire would be the solutions for wars and social problems. He mentions ONU and the EU…
I looked for that book trying to stay away from those boring subjects that comes to us every day and every time, just to find them again hidden in an ancient history book. Probably this is what this book a best seller.

How is the reception to that book in your countries? This book is like a fever in Brazil now, everyone is reading it. I believe that our bizarre country is probably 5 years late in that fever, or maybe that book didn’t even called much attention in Europe or US…
11837  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Silvio Micali: Satoshi never imagined industrial-scale mining on: August 26, 2018, 11:06:36 AM
Sometimes it scars me thinking if they plan for a 51% attack. All you need is a syndicating in between few big mining farms. I am not sure if is is possible practically.

I doubt they would plan a 51%, because the price would drop and they would lose their investment. Those pools are interested in bitcoin success.

Industrial scale mining farms are not the threat, mining pools are. Satoshi disappeared in the same time that users were starting to complain about their variance and slush was kick starting his pool. He made just one comment (that op has quoted) regarding this issue which is very disappointing by the way as he is just talking about simple technical issues and avoids more sophisticated strategic implications of the proposal. He disappeared few days later, forever.

So, if it is about whether satoshi was kind of a god and predicted everything or not, the answer would be a big NO, Satoshi Nakamoto was an ordinary human being who made a lot of big and small mistakes designing and implementing bitcoin and this is why we should improve it instead of  being stuck with a legend.

Satoshi was a genius, because he knew when to disappear.
This is not satoshi's blockchain. Satoshi's existence would make bitcoin centralized on him.

As ethereum is centralized on vitalik Buterin. Vitalik's blockchain.

The solution to those design issues with btc will come from the community. There are some proposals and one day there will be a solution.

Sometime ago I read something about Changing proof of work in a way that asic hardware would become less effective. I believe there are many interesting proposals out there and soon community will have a consensus about one.
11838  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin suggests a new fixed fee model for ethereum transactions on: August 25, 2018, 07:14:36 PM
Seriously, Ethereum is better off without Vitalik dominating development. It's a one man show, which is against anything that makes people like crypto.

Yeah, it's becoming too centralized on him

Ethereum is  Vitalik's blockchain.

This is why Satoshi is a genius. He knew he had to stay anonymous, to keep bitcoin decentralized.
If Satoshi identity was known everything he says, every tweet he shared would be attached to bitcoin.

And he is only a human. We are imperfect. Bitcoin is better without Satoshi deciding things in a centralized way.
Bitcoin is bigger than Satoshi.

And what will happen to ethereum if vitalik becomes sick? Or if he get married and have a child and stay more time with his kid? Or if google hires him?
11839  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin suggests a new fixed fee model for ethereum transactions on: August 25, 2018, 05:40:24 PM
So, if for ten 100% full blocks the fee will go up by 10% each time, and it won't matter that the next block is only 10% full, your fee is still too low and your tx won't be included?

I think that you will not be able to choose fees freely as you do now. You can pay the fee for the block, or wait for another block with lower fees...

Let's see how it goes, still a proposal. I didn't like it very much either.
11840  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does every bitcoin have a serial number? on: August 25, 2018, 03:35:59 PM
Your explanation is somehow confusing and you didn't mentioned the most important.

There are really no coins, but Unspent Transactions Outputs (UTXO)

Every transaction output has a balance, that can be 1 satoshi or 1 million btc. The value does not matter.

Every utxo has its own identification, which is its transaction history.
It's not a serial number, but a timestamp.

If you receive 0.005 btc every week for 3 weeks on the same address, you will have 3 utxo.

It does not matter if you receive them in he se addresses or not.

You can later consolidate those ouput by doing one transaction with all of them to another address.
