So what you're saying is your model can predict bitcoin pricing 20 days out?  That's... amazing.

Because price is what drives difficulty.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that price has absolutely nothing to do with difficulty.  I subscribe to the idea that "awareness" of Bitcoin is what drives difficulty, not including natural net growth of course.

Price is a large driving factor of awareness, though, right?

Your going to the wrong Korean. Everyone knows North Korea is the best Korea. Just look at their handsome and charming leader, he makes the whole world happy with his generosity.

Yes, I heard he will be throwing bitcoins from airplanes soon. Will lurk along the border, trying to catch some.
11865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Make www.freelancer.com accept Bitcoins! on: July 25, 2011, 07:51:44 AM
The fact that you are dealing with lots of fraud is perhaps the best reason to look into Bitcoin. Zero percent chance of chargebacks and "fake cards."  Bitcoin is more safe than other forms of online payment.

Exactly.  Just ask Allinvain or MagicalTux about how secure Bitcoin is!

Secure against what?

Allinvain suffered from security breach by windows (?). He got his wallet stolen, not bitcoins fault.
MagicalTux suffered from security breach by bad password, he got his db compromised, not bitcoins fault.

Bitcoin is secure against chargeback fraud.

This is assuming everyone mining bitcoins does submit hashes to the namecoin network.

Which does not sound too unlikely, since pools will probably compete on "merged mining feature". Some pool ops might also decide to silently cash in on namecoins using their unsuspecting miner's hashpower Wink

Hello Korean Bitcoiners!

Sorry I am writing in english, I do not speak Korean language.

I will come to visit your country in September.

I thought maybe it's a good idea to buy some KRW from local people there and save some exchange fees Wink

Does anyone want to buy some BTC for KRW in Seoul in the middle of September?

cheers,
molecular

11869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First airline ticket bought with bitcoin. on: July 25, 2011, 07:28:11 AM
I don't care for china's way of doing things. They have very heavy censorship, and a communist government by nature is no good for any kind of investing.

This is also not mentioning some very unethical trafficking ventures they do in prisons.

If i had a choice i would defect from the world and conduct business in limbo.

I don't care for the USA's way of doing things. They have heavily biased corporate-controlled media, corrupt government, close-minded people and no consideration for other earthlings. They don't feel obligated to fullfill their part of international treaties. They do not feel they're bound by international law. They invade countries and fuck up other peoples lives based on greed.

Don't even get me started on their domestic and offshore prisons.

If I had a choice, I would ignore the US.

(oh, about the airline ticket and chinese bitcoiners: awesome! continue!)

11872  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Don't expect another 8% Diff increase -- expect more on: July 24, 2011, 08:56:34 PM
I know, everyone just got lucky; we really are holding steady at 11.5 Thash/s, and it's all just a glitch or a streak of awesome luck for everyone at once. Don't worry, not a single 5770 was actually added to the network.  Roll Eyes

On another note: a lot of mining power shifted back from namecoin-mining, which was twice as lucrative compared to bitcoin-mining. (see: http://dot-bit.org/tools/nextDifficulty.php), after the namecoin difficulty jumped from 23.000 to 94.000 on 23/07/2011 20:14.

I think people overestimate how much mining power was on namecoin. Haven't crunched the numbers myself, but I expect no more than a single terahash. Probably less.

I think about half a terahash during the "party". Thats roughly 5% of bitcoin power? Maybe just a dent, but when talking about 8% or 14% increase I think we shouldn't neglect it.

11874  Economy / Economics / Re: Early Adopters Disadvantaged on: July 24, 2011, 09:14:25 AM
I'm sorry, but the early early adopters didn't risk much of anything, at 50 cents a BTC you could buy like 100 BTC for like 50 bucks, which is... not much of a risk to me, hell, that's not a big risk for a 12 year old kid who gets a couple bucks for his birthday

Then why aren't you buying up Namecoins right now at a mad rate? Moreover, if you expect these early BTC adopters to reap huge rewards in the future you also expect the BTC price to continue rising. In this scenario, why aren't you jumping in and buying now?

+1, well said.
11875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Namecoins is now 2x more profitable than Bitcoins on: July 24, 2011, 09:12:07 AM
It's pretty clear that the alternative blockchain approach that Namecoin is using simply isn't viable, and it's good that they're going for the merged mining approach.  Any non-merged blockchain that has miner compatibility with Bitcoin is going to have short periods of insane mining interest followed by very long periods of unprofitable mining.

Or maybe the solution is just to have better difficulty adjustment rules.  Like continue using a 2016 block sliding window, but adjust the difficulty every 252 blocks instead of only every 2016 blocks.  That would help even out the swings somewhat.

I like the former route better (merged mining). Any pool planning to offer this starting at block 24000 nmc? I'd definitely use that pool. It means quite some work for pool ops, though, so I assume pickup will be slowish.
11876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Namecoins is now 2x more profitable than Bitcoins on: July 24, 2011, 09:09:32 AM
generated 2 blocks within the last 2 days at 425mhash/s. that's 3.5 btc. mining btcs i make about 0.25 a day, so i'll keep pushing my luck on solo mining for bitcoins for another 12 days Smiley

balls of steel, dude. You're pushing your luck. Go eligius, you'll still see "generated" Wink

11878  Economy / Marketplace / Re: TextCoin.co.uk on: July 24, 2011, 08:32:17 AM
For the simplicity, swiftness, accessibility and potential anonymity, I don't think that markup is unreasonably high.
As it scales up I would expect the markup to fall and new competition from other providers of the same service.

I'm not so sure the markup will fall, since it'd have to be a competing phone provider, since the phone companies take the majority here.
11879  Economy / Marketplace / Re: TextCoin.co.uk on: July 24, 2011, 08:27:38 AM
this also allows Bitcoin to be used w/o an internet connection which will bring it to the masses.

It does not. It doesn't enable bitcoin payment via text. It enables you to buy bitcoins paying via sms fee billed to your phone bill. You still need an internet connection and bitcoin client.
11880  Economy / Marketplace / Re: TextCoin.co.uk on: July 24, 2011, 08:26:18 AM
its been thought that the phone carriers would resist Bitcoin b/c of the lack of profit.  how do you think this is being addressed?

It's already addressed by the humongous fees they charge for billing sms. The phone companies win here.
