jay used a new irc channel but people brought their bad blockchains with them @Tyrion@ I've sent jay a PM about adding some extra checkpoints to his git repository. Not had a response yet though. This is the content of the PM: Any chance you can update your fork with the following changes in src/checkpoints.cpp?
...
I'll ask tyrion70 if he wouldn't mind recompiling once you've submitted.
This should hopefully stop the client from trying to sync with the litecoin blockchain until block 15,000.
We've pushed the new changes (and new tray icons) and we're good to go on this end.

Oh, You should've seen the thing when the guy first released it, he had the denomination as FTC and the litecoin logo all over the place, I must've missed the tray icon when I was fixing it up. Yeah, the dude that first released it was likely trying to scam the hell out of everyone and cash out, but the general opinion here seems to be that this coin has a cool name, so we've all chipped in a bit to let it live.

Also if anyone has any ideas about how they want to integrate GameCoin into their site or service, I'm more than happy to lend a hand if I can. The coin is worth more once it becomes widely adopted, so it's in my best interest to see other GameCoin-related sites come up and offer people other options and possibilities.

Okay so when I copy my old wallet.dat file into this every thing goes fine...
then after a while the wallet tries to sync....
What is the block we are on with this? 19445 is what I have.
This is probably caused by people who cannot follow simple instructions: Be sure to delete everything from %Appdata%\Gamecoin (apart from gamecoin.conf and wallet.dat) before using this. Because there are checkpoints it should reject the litecoin blockchain but it seems it doesn't stop it from trying to sync to it every so often. I'm personally using the daemon on one computer and connecting to it via my internal network as the only peer via addnodes/maxconnections so that my QT wallet doesn't keep trying to sync. There are 19447 blocks right now. We're thinking of working on a way of keeing checkpoints in an external file, so updates to checkpoints can be delivered without a recompile. Eventually, the litecoin blockchain will stop creeping in once more people start running the new code.

slots.won777.com is now alt-co.inWhy the change?Well, look how pretty it is! Actually, we're shifting our focus and increasing our scope. we aren't going to be all about gambling, we're opening doors to features like an exchange and automated escrow service, with the aim to make alt-co.in the #1 place for people to manage their alt-coin portfolio.

Darn, someone beat me to it, just as I wrapped my head around compiling the qt client, someone else posted it already.
Any chance you know how to compile one for mac?

NEW Unofficial Github Fork - https://github.com/alt-coin/gamecoinApplying aesthetic fixes and security fixes suggested and delivered by you you guys to get this coin back on track. If you're getting "wallet out of sync" errors, this should solve it and ensure we're all on the correct blockchain. Keep an eye on this post for download links to binaries as they become available. (That being said, anyone who can compile these binaries, especially QT for Win/OSX, have at it maybe?) UPDATE: Petr1fied has developed and implemented the changes to the difficulty algorithm, and updated all general coin details: OK guys we have a hard fork in place which will take place at block 25200 which is 2189 blocks away at the time I type this. (Halfway between the next 2 difficulty adjust points under the original code). As we're currently on a 0.127671 difficulty and still not meeting the 2.5 minute target I expect the difficulty to go down at block 24192 for the final leg towards block 25200. What does this hard fork change? This hard fork took inspiration from the recent hard fork to Mincoin which in recent days has proved very effective at keeping the difficulty at an appropriate value for the network to ensure blocks are solved at or around the target timeframe consistantly. Once you are running the new version of GameCoin, from block 25200 the difficulty will be evaluated once every 48 blocks. This should be around once every 2 hours after the difficulty stabilizes for the size of the network. Also the difficulty will come down 4 times faster than it rises so this should ensure that we're not at too high a difficulty for too long in the event we get flash miners targeting the coin. Just an FYI, there will be intermittent downtime today as we move to a new service provider (ironically enough because of too much downtime) Expect us back up and fully running later on tonight. For the moment, deposits and withdrawals are still permitted, but will be temporarily disabled during the switchover to preserve wallet integrity.
The good news is we're moving to a beefy new server with plenty more storage and RAM, so we'll likely be adding a bunch of new coins.
In other news, We've also forked the gamecoin source and fixed errors that are plaguing some people with "out of sync" errors, we'll be posting links to the github repository and compiled binaries as they become available.
|
|
|
So are we shifting to this fork en masse? Coz if we do there has to be a proper announcement. At least a separate topic to inform everyone.
Anyways I leave my wallet free to connect and it shows 7 connections, fully synced and 19435 blocks.
Well I don't really want to be so presumptuous as to lift this guy's coin out from under him, but if we get the QT clients compiled People are probably going to want to hop on the fork with the wallet that works.
|
|
|
If you have transactions under the proper blockchain then keep your %Appdata%\gamecoin\wallet.dat
Good point, I'll add that warning to the post.

I think GameCoin has been abandoned by it's original developer. If it means people will not lose the coins they mined on the real chain I'm sure they'll update their client with jay's fork and we can get it back on track. I've got my mining computer back up and running and am throwing some hashes at it.
I love that everyone's sort of picked up this abandoned coin to nurse it back to health.

The main repository is not yet updated with the checkpoints - GameCoin has to be updated to expect a future.
We're updating our fork in just a few minutes. Daemons and clients compiled from that shouldn't suffer due to the new checkpoints. They also have snazzy new icons.
|
|
|
jayo89, have you added the checkpoints I posted about here to your fork? The last block found (19430) had the following hash: 89bf25f3e929f5f2588cccaf1ba7c88a7a377588d142cf5069cbe12c0fd052d8 Maybe also add that. As to compiling a binary, the best I can do is the Windows Daemon. Maybe we could put up a bounty for whoever compiles a Windows QT wallet for your new fork. I'd throw 10,0000 GME into the pot to get this back on track. Just added, sending them over to my guy to push to our fork, then I'll link you to the github and you can compile a windows Daemon, and we'll see about finding someone to throw together the QTs. I think you guys will like the new icons

So we've forked the gamecoin source, I'm going to fix up a few of the glaringly obvious errors before re-release, including a proper DNS seed for initial peers rather than just adding individual nodes. Anyone running a full, valid gamecoin node that wants to be added to the DNS seed? PM me and let me know Also when the source is ready for compile, anyone able to easily compile Windows/OSX Clients? Let's see if we can't get this coin back in the air. UPDATE: Aaaand 5 minutes of looking at this source I've found the likely source of the blockchain problem. Looks like litecoin DNS seeds, no wonder this thing is getting confused and connecting to the wrong networks. Let's get on making a new seed people!

any nodes for this? trying to get it work, its connected to 1 peer but no sync (now client was open whole night).....
That peer may be me I been getting sync problems as well That peer could very well be us as well, lol. It looks like we might fork the gamecoin repo and fix it up a bit and re-post, see if we can't get'er going again.

Ahem, http://slots.won777.comSo where's that prize? Also, I really like the name of this coin more than anything, it's too bad it was taken and executes in a less-than-graceful way. But the name in itself has potential to make it an effective coin for in-game purchases if it could be marketed correctly. That being said, buying GME, PM me for details. I'm wondering if I should make a pull request on github and at least fix the damn client.

WDC or PWC support? I'm thinking we might add PWC, since that one's been mentioned a few times. Because of the ridiculously slow transaction times, we're considering dropping FTC and CNC, possibly BTC as well because it consumes a LOT of server memory, and it seems people are playing a lot more with the alt-coins anyways. Thanks for the answer, Im currently trying with some FTC. The website works nice, sadly the FTC network is very slow right now. Yeah, it took like 8+ hours for me to move some around last night. I'm holding out hope that once the difficulty drops way down again miners will come back and it'll speed back up again.
