121  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be Aware of those Dodgy Exchanges Support telegram account. on: February 19, 2019, 10:46:58 AM
The most recent encounter to something close to that is in Discord. They could PM you as long as you have a common server there.
You can avoid unwanted spam PM or adding you as friends even if you have common server by doing the following easy steps:

1.   Go to User Settings
image loading...
View image

2.   Click Privacy & Safety
3.   Check Keep me safe (Scan direct messages from everyone)
4.   Disable Allow direct messages from server members.
5.   Disable Everyone and Friends of Friends who can add you as a friend.

Disable Allow direct messages from server members.
When someone from common server Direct Message you, Clyde Bot will message him/her.

Is it possible to be removed from DT list?

Yes, That is the advantage of new DT system. You can remove anyone from DT instantly if he/she is corrupted. For example if Majority of the DT member exclude you than you will be removed from the DT list.

AFAIK, only DT1 have the power to vote on removing DT who have done stupid stuff. Even if people wants to oust a certain DT member, their votes will not matter as long as majority of DT1 voted on the inclusion of the said DT member.

I still haven't got round to looking at telegram - is there any advantage in using it? All I ever see are scam reports.
Aside from scams, it has these security and privacy encryption technique - secret chat functions, large data storage, fast messaging services, and so far no advertisement.

Happens to me so many times, as soon as you join a certain telegram community of let's say EOS of NEO, you will be welcomed by a bunch of scammers in your PM pretending to be support while presenting to you some wierd deals.
Above is my first time, I don’t have much group in telegram nor friends. I only join if I have transactions or need something on a specific group, I leave or stay - determined by purpose.

Hero? The Hero???
Well, last time I checked, I’m still hero.

I really don't think Telegram is a good place to look for support in the first place. On-site support should be first priority, and email support second.
Deffo. However, on-site support or email takes ages (long ticket queue) for you to solve problems and telegram is the fastest communication with support team, if you’re talking to a right person.
124  Economy / Scam Accusations / Be Aware of those Dodgy Exchanges Support telegram account. on: February 18, 2019, 02:50:52 PM
This just happened to me on telegram.

Exchange support asking for deposit to earn bonus. This is to inform all to be vigilant, specially those exchanges support account on telegram.

Upon knowing such dodgy scheme, I immediately message Kajetan Mackowiak (Coindeal.com Founder) to confirm if the said account is one of their employee.

Scammers used fake exchange support telegram account as they know that people trust them on handling issues with regards to exchanges. Without awareness, exchange users can easily be manipulated by fake exchange support account. Instructing them to do something is easy, users want their problems to be solved immediately, so, they will do anything as instructed.

Be aware – I am vigilant.

That's a bug.
Thanks, theymos.

Okay, I'm wrong about the report to admin function, which is unrelated. But, kind of strange coincidence that I reported that PM and he/she is the only user with that kind of –merit.
126  Other / Meta / Re: [Bug forum?] Name: Giratina, Merit: -1926 on: February 13, 2019, 11:08:39 AM
Buying and selling merit not from sources is allowed by the forum, somehow...
AFAIK, buying and selling are disallowed.
Can I sell merit?

Selling merit is disallowed.

127  Other / Meta / Re: [Bug forum?] Name: Giratina, Merit: -1926 on: February 13, 2019, 10:29:27 AM
Such case is based on Report to Admin function.

Sample of PM sent by user Giratina and got reported to admin.
hi can i ask help
i will pay if you help me

When admins found out that it is a valid case, they will undo any merit given to a certain user. There are many reporting functions here in our forum and I manage to experienced using them.

130  Other / Beginners & Help / Meet Than and Then on: February 11, 2019, 03:40:27 PM
Sorry, not a then DT1 member or greater than new DT1 member(s) topic.

I have noticed some members who actually have some enough merits misusing than and then. They used then when in fact they meant than when opening a topic or replying to a topic. I’m not a major in English professor and not my native language, but, I hope this topic will help newbies and other members to make some improvement regarding these two commonly confused words, especially when instructing or opening a topic that is worth reading.

Searched bitcointalk about this kind of topic, didn't find any. If there are already topic like this, kindly link it here to be added.

Than and then

There's nothing more embarrassing then correcting someone's language only to realize that your correction contains its own error.

Did you see it? That harmless little four-letter word then. It should have been than. That’s one example when using than and then.

Then has two meanings.

1.  Then usually refers to time, meaning "at that time."
Example of then meaning "at that time"

2.  Then can also be used as a transition to mean "in that case" or "therefore."
Example of then meaning "in that case" or "therefore"

Than is used only when comparing items.  (Then is never used in comparisons.)
Examples of than used to compare items

•   Expect it to take a little longer than usual for Electrum to be ready. (Correct)
•   Expect it to take a little longer then usual for Electrum to be ready. (Wrong)
•   I don't think it will be less than hundred. (Correct)
•   I don't think it will be less then hundred. (Wrong)
•   I would rather eat than sleep. (Correct)
•   I would rather eat then sleep. (Wrong)

So when did this pair get so confusing? Turns out they've always been that way. Linguistically speaking, they're identical twins. In Middle English, they were the same word; both spellings were used for all the various meanings. It's been a few hundred years, however, since English has treated them as distinct, which means we have to too. We could go back to Middle English, but we think that would be harder then—um, that is, harder than—mastering these.

TIPS:

Apart from thinking about the meanings of than and then, another way to get the spelling right is to remember that then is like when: both are spelled with an ‘e’ and both are used to talk about time (which ends with an ‘e’).

Than is used to make comparisons. Both than and comparison have a letter “A” in them.

Summary

These two words are very close in their appearance, but than vs. then have very different uses.

Then is commonly used to express a sense of time or what comes next or used to be.

Than is used to form comparisons between two things.

USD savings bank account is a must.
I disagree, USD savings bank account is not a must when you want to enter or invest in cryptocurrency. We can trade or venture in crypto without any USD savings account, having such account is or will only prevaricate cryptocurrency revolution’s idea of “be your own bank”.

sa BPI 500$ maintaining balance
Imagine you have to maintain Php 26,051.84 (current exchange rate) ADB, and when you fall below maintaining balance, you will be fine of Below Minimum ADB Fee amounting to $ 10.00. It is your own money; why do they charge you with your own money?  Ginigisa ka lang sa sarili mong mantika. We trust them with our money, bakit ang ballpen nila sa bank nakatali? Nanakawin ba natin?

Plus, people can’t afford what you are suggesting of a must USD savings bank account. You think people here have $500.00? People are here to get something that they cannot earn outside of this forum. Be realistic, my friend. It is not a must.

kapag ba nag withdraw ka ng USD mo galing sa mga exchanges papunta sa peso savings account mo automatic sya mag convert into pesos?
No. You still need to apply for forex conversion in your maintaining bank of account if you want it in your Peso account, and of course they have fees on that.

dollar wire transfer for deposit and withdrawal..
As a former Customer Service Head (Retail Banking Group), wire transfer is not advisable due to AMLA requirements and will be filtered in Bank’s portals, with suspicious transactions. Any remittance that go thru wire transfer will be scrutinized as it is considered as red flag in most banks. These was due to Bangladesh incident, which resulted to a ₱1 billion fine against one of our banks here in the Philippines (I’m sure you know about this news).

Opening dollar savings account is not easy nowadays. You need to provide proof of ownership with your dollar deposit (not hoarding dollar) and some banks don’t just accept I’m trading cryptocurrency – you will be rejected or need additional proof, like remittance from other countries (should not be one of the sanctioned countries), also, should be OFAC Negative. If you have frequent deposits and withdrawals with same low or high amount of dollars, it will also be a red flag. Your account will be submitted to Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), the one who is handling R.A. No. 9160, also known as the “Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2001” (AMLA), as amended, and Republic Act No. 10168, also known as the “Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012”.

I used Palawan Pawnshop with Php50,000.00 limit and Php40.00 fee per transaction, open Monday to Sunday.
133  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/pasting) here. Calling for Mod action: please permban on: February 08, 2019, 04:04:26 PM
That is not his own words, that is a pasted sentence from bitpanda's article from which he copied the content.
There is common knowledge, according to macmillanihe.com:

In all academic or professional fields, experts regard some ideas as common knowledge. This is generally defined as facts, dates, events and information that are expected to be known by someone studying or working in a particular field. The facts can be found in numerous places and are likely to be known by many people: for example, that Margaret Thatcher was a British prime minister. Such information does not generally have to be referenced.

UnionBank News is likely common knowledge which can be found from one of the leading newspaper in the Philippines. First image also shows News by BitPinas.com, a form of referencing (IMO), if he wants to do plagiarism or make it as his own, he will just crop the image.

#2 Is 'CTTO' enough?
I’m not a fan of CTTO. I might use CTTO with hyperlink when I want to acknowledge the author.

You can report this to a moderator and just wait if it is good or bad reporting. Don’t worry about accuracy, I got 203 bad reporting.

sa tingin ko ok naman and peso refund kasi iyon naman talaga ang planong icashout ng customer,
That is bullsh*t. BTC Cash out should be refunded as BTC, not the other way around. Like for example I have cash out 0.5101 BTC which is equivalent to Php 89,508.27 (got errors) and yes, they immediately refunded it in my peso wallet amounting to Php 89,508.27 which is only 0.48748329 BTC (when you convert it again for trading purposes), your balance is actually missing 0.02261671 BTC.

Aside from that kind of strategy on refunding coins, the slow transfer of cash out thru bank accounts are not good. They should change their service provider, saying you don’t need to wait from long line? Really? Banks can easily transfer your fiat to other banks in seconds, sense of urgency is very important in this fast growing world that we live in. If we want this cryptocurrency revolution to be successful, fast transactions should help us a lot. We are not complaining coins.ph team, it is just our suggestions.
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AMA (Ask Me Anything): The current state of Bitcoin in the Philippines 🇵🇭 on: February 02, 2019, 11:24:06 AM
2. If bitcoin or cryptocurrencies would skyrocket in price once again in the future, I wouldn't want people I know going to me asking for money or as well call, "balato". One of the worst filipino traditions in my opinion.

Plus, you will get more family members and friends. Filipinos have this attitude that when someone is famous or have something in life, they tend to say He/She is my family member and the old family free will just pop up, but, they are not even there during your off seasons in life. Even just a maid by some famous celebrities Filipinos make it as a headline.

Talking about bitcoin or cryptocurrency to other people here: some will just say it is too low and kind of negative about it right now. When the price skyrocket? It is too high now, I can’t even afford to get into crypto world. Even worst, they will say you’re lucky you get into crypto while it is low. Come on, we already told you before to buy now - No one listen.

It has been said that “Be your own bank” and use crypto. It only means you’re 100% responsible for your holdings not a bank, any government or any third party. People are not ready to go decentralization and 100% ownership – yes, when it is mooning. It is not going to the moon or facing problems – then where’s the government, company, refunds, etc. What people forgot, company or exchanges is not the owner of bitcoin or cryptocurrency. It is running on its own blockchain, distributed to thousands -  it is decentralized with no central ownership or a server, it’s all people’s computers = nodes. Which only proves that not only Filipinos having these doubts on losing money and where to refund it, it is just one major problem facing cryptocurrency revolution as a whole.

How not to use the negative feedback

[1]Don't red tag a user for ban evasion, plaragism plagiarism etc instead report user to appropriate authority (moderators)
Hi, CryptopreneurBrainboss,

I am guilty on red tagging plagiarism. But, I have my reasons on doing it and of course I reported them.
It is not just because of the change on DT list, I have been helping to fight against those who defies the rules even before these DT stuff going on now. Red tagging plagiarism/plagiarist and reporting them are my way of helping our community, I can’t change the way I help our community – I am comfortable with it.

See my reasons below:
Since more banned users are complaining or in need of the reasons about their ban, I put red trust to a plagiarist just to lessen the work of any staff or any users to find out why (they just need to check the trust history – I am not a DT member, so, they can check “Untrusted feedback”). Some or previous reports about plagiarism have no tags or when I am lazy. Smiley

Good luck!

See you around.

This now My Achievement of the Year and if luck still resides on my side and became a Sr. Member this Year, maybe I'll try to apply as a Merit Source for our board.

Even though I'm still far away from the others, this is not that bad for me, bit by bit, I can say that I've been doing good and my stay here is quite unusual than before.

As for the work, I'll even try harder to make this all true.

Hmmm… Bud, don’t be hard on yourself. Just take it easy and remember there is always life outside of this forum. Your achievement here may not apply on the real world. Improved yourself in this community to uplift your real life goals. Relax and do not pressure yourself, life is a beautiful thing.

Pursue for excellence, success will chase you. – Rancho (3 Idiots)

Hi, cabalism13,

Sweet, Bruv! Congratulations!

I am happy for you, I have watched you grow here on bitcointalk. I may not have post topic(s) such as this, but, I’m pleased that even if I haven’t made anything like this, in some way, I inspired people in my Local board to strive more and change the view of other people about the Filipinos as assholes, shitposters, Beggars. Hey! Filipinos are actually hardworking individuals and when they want to achieve something, they make every effort to make it a reality. You are one example, that even if you have started as a douchebag, you can make a difference, people change.

Keep up the good work.

See you around.
