121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: July 25, 2014, 04:59:13 AM
Delivery of 2 S3's from batch 2 today Smiley

I followed Dogie's setup guide here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702653

The 1st S3 miner works perfectly at around 440Ghs.

The 2nd S3 initially only started with 1 chain visible with a hash rate of 200Ghs.

I tried a few different CX750 power supplies but same result. Now the S3 starts but does not hash at all, a bleep and it restarts Sad

For the time it is running I can still only see chain 1 visible but showing 0.0Ghs

Emailed and posted here, hoping Bitmain will resolve the issue.
I had the same issue with one of my S3's, it also had a single line for the blades on initial start-up.  I removed the cover, pushed all the connectors between the controller and blades into the sockets, then reconnected power and now both blades are showing and hash rate is fine (about 431 GH/s avg after 1d 21hr at stock settings).  I suspect workmanship issues with the cables, so I asked Bitmain to send a replacement cable with my next order on B4.
While you wait for a reply, you could try removing the cover (just a few screws, simple) and check out these cables.

Cheers

Is it just me or does the units that actually handle OC seem to be very good units, the 2 I've found so far takes 250Mhz without breaking a sweat Oo
Same here for 1 of them, but after 24 hours the 250MHz one gradually goes down to similar hash rate as the other at stock frequency.  Decided to leave them at 218.75 for now.

Cheers

strange is no official response there at forum,
no response from ticket system/www form,
customer service is not responding...

after getting millions of dollars from preorders they have stopped any communication.

another case of miners screwed by preorders?

why not to buy from stock?

Patient please, we're busy.

Is it true that the airliners stopped flights to Israel
This is what I heard to the news.
Minister of FA John Kerry announced this!!!

You must mean Secretary of State John Kerry.  Lol.

Yes Secretary of State but I heard today the air-liners lifted this just this morning
so everything back to normal...
The ban on flights is being lifted (http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/24/us-mideast-gaza-idUSKBN0FT06I20140724).
About the performance issues, the SP30 is a leading-edge product, and as it attempts to raise the bar you expect to encounter some issues that needs to be resolved.  If it was so 'trivial' then the average Joe could design/build/sell these.
Rather than falling into 'despair' and 'criticism' one probably needs to give the engineers at SP Tech a chance to focus on the problems at hand and solve them.

Quick Question.

Any one else having their S3 report only one working blade.

I've tried
-different power supply
-multiple reboots
-different pci-e plugs
-Currently power all 4 pci-e plugs with a 1600 watt supply

I've filed a ticket with Bitmain but nothing yet.

Anyone have any suggestions short of opening the box and checking connections.

Bitmain will tell you to open up the case and reseat the plugs from control board to hashing board. 99% of the time that will fix your problem.

Opened the case up and reseated all connectors.  No visible damage.  One side is still cold to the touch.
I had exactly the same issue on one of the S3's.  In my case opening the case, moving and reseating all connectors / cables between the controller and hashing boards seems to have solved it.  Maybe some of the wires do not make a good contact in the IDC (insulation displacement contact) part of the connectors, and just a slight shift of the wire 'fixes' it.  If all else fails, as suggested you could swap parts between the 'good' and 'bad' S3.

Cheers

Ok I have removed the heatsink and it seems like the thermal paste is everywhere :/ damn
Maybe that's your issue.  Another user reported a big improvement after cleanup of the excess paste.  Let us know how you go.

Good luck

Just wanted to wish Spondoolies-tech staff that this security situation will finish soon, and you can focus on hashing rates rather than 'colour red' alerts.

Cheers

Can anyone tell me what to do when Miner Status page shows that BLADE 1 - 1 chip running, all other dead maybe?

Blade 2 ok

Tried to change power supplies, no luck Sad any help?
I had a similar issue on one of the S3s that arrived today.  One of the blades (2nd one) would not show on the status page of the web interface.  I took the cover off, pushed all the connectors of the 2 cables between the controller and the hashing boards into their sockets, and that seems to have rectified it (at least for now).  Maybe there is some workmanship/quality issue with these cables/connectors.  (see my post a bit earlier on this thread).

Good luck
129  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 23, 2014, 07:42:22 AM
Got my 2 S3's today.  Thanks UPS and Bitmain.
The 1st one worked fine straight away.  The 2nd one had some 'jet lag', only one blade was reported and the hash rate was correspondingly about half.  Swapped power supplies, but that was not the issue.  Opened the cover, pushed the connectors of cables between the controller and hashing boards in, and now both blades come up.  Re-installed the cover, and it's still running both blades.
Average hash rate is about GH/s after almost 2 hours on the 1st one. The 2nd one is has similar performance, but did not have much time to stabilize yet.  Both running at default settings (frequency=218.75 MHz).
Had only a few beeps so far, nothing annoying.

Cheers

Found out why one of my units was not hashing and having X's on the chips. Paste was everywhere on the inside. Even the screws holding the heat sink on had thermal paste on them.

Thanks for sharing this.  How did you rectify the excess paste, and what was the impact on hashing performance of that unit?

(Looks like now that BITMAIN has a heatsink also on the component side, this creates an 'opportunity' for this sort of problem)

Cheers
131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 02:19:51 AM
I'm only getting half speed out of both of them

I must've done something wrong here all I took them out of the box plugged them up and configured them

Am I missing something ?

Do I need to power both group of plugs or just one?
Look at page 4 of the Antminer S3 manual.  You need to power both groups, however if you don't intend to overclock, you may use 1 PCI-E connector per group
"One AntMiner contains  four  power  sockets, which are , formed into two groups as below. Only two sockets are enough to support one unit , but out one of the two sockets of each group must be each group must be  connected to 12V Power line. "

Looks like you supplied power just to one group, so the other one is idle.

My B1 shipment has finally left Shenzhen, so probably tomorrow I can get my S3's Smiley
133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 01:58:47 PM
I was notified early Sunday morning, 20/07/2014 that my units had been shipped and given the UPS tracking number.  Since then, a day and a half, my packages have so far only been given a shipping label but according to the UPS tracking site:

"A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated."

So my order is also halted!  Anyone know why no orders are now moving?

Mine also has that status.... Batch 2 20/07/2014 delivered

Status of my order changed!!! Will arrive this wednesday!! Smiley
Is yours coming by UPS or another shipping company?

UPS
Mine too.  Once it moves out of Shenzhen, you know that there is a chance.... good luck
134  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 01:57:34 PM
UPS website just updated my shipping status with these two items:
07/21/2014    8:19 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay. / Your package was released by the clearing agency.
Shenzhen, China    07/21/2014    8:15 P.M.    Your shipment was not processed by brokerage and has not cleared customs. This has caused a delay.

Still says it will deliver tomorrow but I find that hard to believe now.

I got the same info from UPS too.
My B1 order is still showing it will be delivered on Tuesday but I'm doubtful.

Mine just says "Shenzhen, China    19/07/2014    23:56    Arrival Scan"
It's been there now for about 48 hours.  Trying to find out from UPS what is the reason.

I hope all of our miners get delivered soon

Cheers

I expect no movement on a Sunday, but unclear why Monday is gone without progress.
BITMAIN - can you help sort this out at your end?
137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 12:06:53 PM
my scheduled delivery is Scheduled Delivery Updated To:
Friday, 07/25/2014, By End of Day
My delivery is still scheduled for Wednesday, 23/07/2014.
There is something strange going with these delays.  Have someone at customs developed an appetite for BTC mining, or expectations for kickbacks?
138  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 21, 2014, 11:18:44 AM
My B1 order seems to be stuck as well

Yesssss!!!!!!  Smiley
Congrats!  Wish you a quick delivery

I also got the delivery info and am following the tracking, unfortunately the weekend seems to put a bit of a pause, so current delivery of my B1 order is now expected on Wednesday.

Cheers

Thanks !!I'm from Spain . If I have to pay something for customs I will tell you how much.  Cry
I'm from Australia, and fortunately the S3 comes just under the GST (similar to VAT) threshold for imports, so persons in Australia that have received their B1 order already paid no fees...Smiley no wonder it is called the 'lucky country'...Smiley)
Hopefully your customs fees are not too painful.

Cheers
