So this is an unfiltered brain dump. I met this guy once many years ago who set up in business decades before I met him listening to random radio stations around the world. He is now a fairly rich man. How did he make money from listening to the radio? The clever little fucker would write to the radio station and demand royalty payments for songs that they had played. He would then send those royalty payments to the music company which owned the rights to the music - or whatever royalty collection system they had going. If a radio station said they had a system for paying royalties, he would ask for proof and that would be that. But in a lot of cases, people would tell him to go away and that's when he knew he had caught a fish. He would then go after that radio station and ask for payment for lots of different songs going over an extended period of time. That's it. Stations would pay up after a long back-n-forth and he would then pass on money and keep some. The radio stations didn't really need to pay him anything. But they figured it would probably escalate. What started out as a fairly opportunist business model, turned out to be a clever business move. He now has an expensive ex-wife to maintain, several big houses, a regular hooker, some great cars and several staff. Oh, he also gets invited to celebrity drinks and parties because he is their hero for collecting money from random places all around the world. So this brain dump: It would be interesting to find a way to facilitate take-down notices on the blockchain. One of the issues with the take down approach at the moment is that it costs rights holders quite a lot of money and it's a logistical nightmare for them. What if you could create rewards for individuals to issue take-down notices on your behalf and there would be a record of that notice. Valid and accepted notices could then be paid by the rights holders with money being split amongst all those that had issued a valid notice which was accepted edit So the brain dump has been turning into something more tangible and better. You'll have to wait for something worth waiting for on where that brain fart is going. That seems like something best suited for a centralized system... However if i were to spitball a solution I'd say you'd have to do something like this... 1. Timestamp the upload (easy) 2. Run audio files through a system like sound hound. 3. If a match is found, remove the older version. Now this would only work if the original artist uploaded first. If i were to upload the rolling stones, who knows... -pickle

the risk is still very high here
The risk with every project is huge in this space; this has been discussed several times previously. A good example is MU2 / Kimdotcom which I also invested in--now it's very unclear whether my holdings are worthless or not. I literally have a piece of paper in my printer showing my holdings in that project that may be worth money, and may not be. If you don't want to play with risk then invest in normal stocks like Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet. Better yet don't invest at all. Better to not get your feet wet. Better to not be the first person to walk through the door that doesn't exist yet. Better to not be that guy 7 years ago who bought 2 pizzas for 10,000 BTC. Wish I'd sold a pizza 7 years ago for $12,000,000 I can send you over a couple of pizza's, a crate of beer and a fudge cake if you want to send over 10k vtr. Deal? Lol 10k vtr is like $500

If you haven't been paying attention to the Kim Dot-com case, it's about time you did. New Zealand has just been put on the hook for paying compensation to Kim Dot-com for upwards of $2bn. http://thedailyblog.co.nz/2017/02/22/why-you-should-care-about-the-kafkaesque-abomination-that-is-the-legal-case-against-kim-dotcom/Why you should care. VTR is actually the name used in the most famous case in Us copyright history. It is the case that establishes that BitTorrent is a legal piece of software. https://w2.eff.org/legal/cases/betamax/These cases could be great news for vTorrent. The paid file sharing option and linking payments back to royalties means that the movie industry can change its business model to release content globally in one go and do so very cheaply using users own hardware and bandwidth. If vTorrent can add streaming, then we can go mainstream with support from the media industry. They can upload files directly into vTorrent and watch the royalties start flowing immediately with zero distribution costs. If, would, could don't really help though. The whole value in this case is coming from the future potential. The project might get delivered in 2 years, may be too late by then. We can't just tell. Still seems ok, so I'm hodling but I wish the dev was responsive. Quite a red flag. I see a lot of potential but there is very high risk. This is not for everyone. Everything in crypto has a very high risk... QFT. We'lljust have to wait and see... wish i had a crystal ball :/ -pickle

As promised, new client with major upgrades is coming soon, it is still being worked on since there are some thread-related bugs causing the client to crash on certain conditions.
Regards, vTorrent
God only knows what's coming and when. 'Major upgrades' could be anything. better later than never.. A lot of people here seems to be too impatient! Remember than Dev is here..when I have needed help with my wallet Dev answered me in a few hours! When all will be ready ( with Riot + torrent support ) vTorrent will have enough technology going on top of coinmarketcap! We just need time for testing and coding...remember than this is the only one in crypto with this feature, this is not only a copy and paste from other projects. Waiting for it I'm happy to wait, it's only some more week...and we can buy more cheap! Yup. Same dev over 2 years. No major pump/dump. New tech. I'm not risking more than I'm willing to lose, but this project has some very nice indicators. I've also been speaking with my brother who owns a recording studio and he wants to put one of his clients albums on vTorrent to test its ability to make money. I hope the torrent is released soon -pickle

March 3rd @ 1159am How did you work that out? Ok, you don't have to tell your calculation method as that's probably your own secret sauce. I get ~ March 16 @ 5am Ancient Alien secret.

Bought another 3k vtr ... i won't miss $100 if it crashes, but I'll be doing backflips if vtorrent comes through.

looks like a buy! this could be the future. It could... it could not. If a torrent is released within the wallet you'll see moon. If he stops development, you'll see concrete. The dev has put a lot of work in, and i have faith he'll deliver, but when is the million dollar question. -pickle

If anyone has concerns about the dev, go check his post history. He only posts a couple times a month... with the exception of last November when he posted a whopping 4 times.
Its just the way he is.
His last couple posts said big things are coming... dont panic.

A lot of people are worried about lack of updates...I was expecting to see much more updates now but I think I can wait a few more weeks
Torrent over Blockchain and RIOT support is something really big...2FA support made me think than dev is really working hard on this project.
And we have already seen new wallet 0.8.2.1 on blockexplorer
I'm thinking at BitTorrent and RIOT daily users, much more than Bitcoin users...!
I'm thinking we should start a riot until dev posts some pretty pictures of the BitTorrent section I'm up for kicking off! You have my axe!!

So just a reminder that there is a hard fork due at block 1,300,000 but we don't know fully what it will contain. My initial thoughts are it's a simple enough hard fork to just calculate the staking rewards and if you're running the latest client, you probably don't need to do anything. My guess is that the hard fork will happen on 15 March, around 9am
WITH BITTORRENT, THE CATS OUT OF THE BAG 15 march at 901am

This thread will have no problems being active when torrents are available.
I just wish vtorrent dev would pop on once a month.

It's a bitter pill to swallow when I have been following this project for 26 months, when purevidz launched a few weeks ago and just hit 1M marketcap.
I put this down to the way the developer interacts or lack of interaction with the investors in this project.
We'd be lucky if he logs in twice a month.
I don't care about FUD it's the truth.
Dev sort your shit out before this gets dumped to fuck and you lose all your followers.
I think you're a bit too emotionally invested here. I actually like that this is a low-key project and the dev isn't hyping a product that doesn't yet exist. I find them pretty consistent in progress and updates. It is what it is. Strong hands will remain because of fundamentals and potential of this project. And until they deliver at least an alpha product, there is no reason for 1MM market cap. Also, I hope you didn't miss the profit opportunity from the recent pump. Purevidz may seem enticing a first glance, but they are not fully decentralized. As anyone who's followed the Pirate Bay story knows, maintaining a public tracker is a difficult job. There have been domain blockings, prosecutions, lawsuits and hardware confiscations all over the globe. The site endures because of countless volunteers and donations, and the daily cat and mouse game they play with authorities. Once the media legal complex gets wind of Purevidz, the small dev team doesn't stand a chance. Popcorn Time suffered this fate. I get where he's coming from, but you're absolutely right. Every project is a gamble. The dev has never been communicative, but he has been developing (which is more important imho). Another hard fork is coming up, and with it will be something new. I haven't been around since the beginning, but has the dev promised something at a specific time and not delivered? I know he hasn't delivered on the torrent yet, but he's never said (expect the torrent on <insert date>). Aside from that, i wish the dev would ask for help if he needs it. -pickle When is the alpha coming up in your opinion? I think thats a question more suited for coins101
