I would agree with you that scamcoins discredit cryptocurrency, although I don't think there needs be a conspiracy - the ordinary behaviour of greedy people can do it as well as a hidden cabal.

You will probably do better on fiverr, mechanical turk, elance, etc.

basic income is a well studied economic proposal - if government wishes to start this they could certainly pay people in btc.

The way I see the sig is a gentle encouragement for me to post.  It's been a really good motivator for me to actually participate in a forum instead of simply lurking.  So, I spread the gospel of SPEND YOUR BITCOINS, welcome newbies, answer questions, and start the occasional thread.  Most of the active posters I see with the PD sigs seem to be doing the same.
