An interesting new governance proposal is up https://www.dashcentral.org/p/reduce-the-proposal-fee-to-one-dash it aims to reduce the proposal fee to 1 DASH from 5.  The fee is required in order to submit a proposal into the DASH DAO for funding for some work you want to do.  The purpose is the reduce the barrier to entry to foster more involvement in the DAO which in recent months has been very lacklustre.  Also, the reduction helps keep the fee in line with the yearly reduction of DASH available for bidding in the DAO.  I have voted in the affirmative on this one, I hope others here take the time to the same.

Scurry off back to your echo chamber now both of you  Smiley

Don't be so puerile Tok and let's instead talk about DASH.  Grin
Have you read Ryan's recent megathread on DashDirect (CrayPay offering) that is an absolute game changer for the North American market?

https://twitter.com/RTaylor05/status/1412184441535954945

This is a big step forward in cementing DASH's supremacy in the Crypto Payments industry as the coin to goto for spending your crypto fortune.  Cheesy

and as if that wasn't enough, yesterday we started miner signalling for the DIP20 hardfork and already we have 70% of the hashrate signalling readiness for the change, so we should be able to lock-in the change in a few weeks.  Grin  It looks like DASH is coming along nicely on several fronts, things are slowly happening and chugging along.  We also noticed we've stopped selling off Masternodes and started to hold the same level, perhaps even increasing slightly https://mnowatch.org/dash-stats/?20210708052009 DASH could be turning a bullish corner here.  Very exciting time for the dip buyers indeed !  Grin

and instead has buried itself out of sight in some discord echo chamber hidey-hole where they can only hear the calming sounds of each others voices Wink

LOL, is that what you think?  The official discord is more trolly than this ANN thread these days, but the moderators tolerate it because if they removed it, they would also remove the bulk of the activity from the discord and render it dead.

But yes, there will always be "believers".

Tok, you are still here, I was wondering about you, did you take profit?  Or did you hold all the way down again?  If you think the fundamentals of this project are so poorly aligned, pray tell why you continue to hold the coin?  Or do you enjoy posting the same old tripe over and over again.  Like this latest garbage, LTC TXNS are boosted thanks to game called LiteBringer, is this the same as DASH's economic transactions?

Anyway I ended up using Zeus.

Hi gadado2, I am the author of the DASH Masternode Zeus and yes, it is the easist way to upgrade your masternode.  It has two options for this, one to upgrade the dashd and the option to update the Sentinel, current version is 1.6.0.  You are right, it does not seem to impact payments by not having a working Sentinel, but I am not 100% sure of this.  If you notice you get a POSE Score, please also update the Sentinel, easy as pie using the DMZ.  Also, thanks for your kind words.  I will be making an update to it to handle DASH Evolution (Platform), although Strophy's DASHMate, is pretty awesome too!  Grin

That was a rubbish analysis!  How about one from afbitcoins ?  I bet he is bullish AF.  Grin

Dash only ever had one advantage over bitcoin. That was to decouple the mining protocol from the service protocol so that mining could be maximiseed while providing services.

That advantage has been destroyed by the masternode community voting to convert a viable capital asset into a revenue cash-cow for themselves.

Absolute nonsense, Tok!  The initative you speak of helped green DASH (yes, DASH is more environmentally friendly now :leaf:) and reduced the amount of tokens the miners have to sell, thus reducing sell pressure on their end all the while increasing the attractiveness of DASH as an investment for those seeking a passive income on their DASH holdings via a shared Masternode service such as https://crowdnode.io/ or a trustless one with a 1000 DASH.

You are just a sour puss because you didn't get your way and you will never forgive the network for that it seems.

Tide's coming in.

and the tide raises all boats.  Any targets, analysis from you Tok?

I am targeting a 20% MN/Mining reward ratio as always which will propel us in a more sustainable manner to new heights and mitigate the hangover when it comes.

Yeah, not like Firo, look they recently implemented ChainLocks! https://firo.org/2021/01/28/chainlocks-activated-mainnet.html Why doesn't DASH implement ChainLocks!  Huh Instead there is no development from DASH, nothing noteworthy or of significance, certainly nothing an inferior project would want to fork and use as their own tech.  Roll Eyes

Grin I didn't want to piss someone off. Sry. Yes ChainLock is a very good thing. Not sure if it is noted from many outside of this project. In point of useability DASH is still the best coin for me and it is a petty that it did not get the attention it should have gotten. But still looking back I don't see the spark of joy of beeing inovative and the coin fitting user needs like it was back then anymore.

If you are the same as xkcd over in dash org let me thank you for your excellent MN setup description. That was extremly valueable for me as non linux human. Smiley

And sure those MN I have generating passive income still are close to the best thing every "happened" to me and I guess to many MNs of the old dash community too. And I wasn't even into DASH from the start. That linux focus and the installer for windows (i don't get why people trust installers)  keept me from getting into it early.

To be honest start of this year I was close to disolve all DASH I had because the signs became really black. I don't care if a coin has lesser value than others relative seen but if I have to worry about the value stability then I have to care. And it hit the point where I couldn't be sure it will recover ever.
Thankfully it did. Till now... the unknown dash future is what  doesnt makes me feel so confident and safe like in the past when it comes to DASH.

Yep, I feel the same way about all that.  I was only adding to my DASH position when it was under $100 but that was largely because I never expected price to go much above $100 due several factors, but unit bias and low APY on running a node as being primary among them.  I knew the coin would pump a little, but then I saw it gather momentum although to date less than the rest of the market and I decided to hang onto everything.  It now looks like we could possibly have a mania similar to other coins and that would be a time I take some profit.

Yes, I did write the MN installation guide on the forum and the DASH Masternode Zeus which basically automates it, it was my pleasure and I aim to update it for Platform to help install the many components of that.  I am glad you found these helpful!

What really bothers me most as much as I do like DASH is that the inovation and development very much slowed so much that I see no development progress in the last 2 years. It is no more the Coin that was driven by inovations when it started. And you know if you stop development that is never good. Might be development is at full speed seen from inside the development team. Just want to say from outside it looks like there came nothing of relevance the last 2 or 3 years at least. Sure other old alt coins are not better.

interesting that dash works with mining is it endless mining or not

It is endless mining and endless whining.
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: April 16, 2021, 05:07:57 PM

Ok, maybe I'm taking a slight liberty with terminology by calling it "buying" since, say, gold mining would not generally be referred to as "buying" from the earth.

I appreciate that Tok.  Meanwhile, I am looking forward to AFBitcorn's update, we just pumped into 6 cobs a node,  Grin ain't that swell?
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: April 16, 2021, 01:18:37 PM

MINERS:

 • They BUY the coin in the primary market

This is really silly, Tok, the act of mining is not buying the coins, this is not primary market, the miners are incurring a cost which is wilfully passed onto the network in whole.  You are trying to isolate elements of DASH without looking at the whole, for example I would argue the reason DASH underperformed in this bull market is because there are many more opportunities to put your money to work so to speak in the Defi space and CeFi like Celcius where you can earn a good return on your coins.  DASH masternodes simply got too crowded and the Mnode opers decided to optimise for ROI which implies selling.

Ryan has the same issue as you do and looks at DASH as a monolith and not part of an ecosystem, if he had, he would have recognised that the realloc hardfork SPORK 21 did not go far enough and he needed to pull the needle 80/20 in favour of the mnode opers to attract premium investment into the coin.

We've been over this time and time again, Tok, and though you and I are an incapable of budging from our positions on this topic, I look to other readers of this esteemed thread and see that in general support lies with those that oppose your view, so I tend to think that is probably the right way of looking at it.

Ever wondered how large companies get away without paying any tax?  Tokenormal is your hint, his financial alchemy is able to turn a liability into to an asset  Shocked  Hey Tok, when it comes to tax, you’re hired, you can do my taxes for me and turn the world upside down.  Meanwhile miners sell 768 DASH a day - fact.  The selling pays electricity costs - fact, rent, labour and equipment expenses and some tax presumably. Where's that money come from?  At $330 a DASH, that's $253,440 of buying we need to find each and every day to pay our miners - fact.  We pay this because this is a POW coin and still gains its primary security from mining - we see value in that.

The mnode operators need not sell as much because their expenses are less, they have the option of hodling or compounding their rewards, miners do not.

If I had $1,000,000 USD to invest in DASH what would be most beneficial to the coin?  Undecided  Buy mining gear and add hashrate?  Or, by 3 nodes and mint coins?  You are the holders, think it over.  I would prefer it if someone bought the coin, rather than buy a miner for which will get no share in the profits.

The equations are so obvious and ludicrously simple, I am suprised Tok is still given the oxygen he needs to breathe, and I consider his Tom fuddery boardline trolling these days, as though the rotten soul of iCEBreaker infested him.  Angry

I pray Tok, you recover from this and one day learn to forgive DASH for hurting you (Can you show us on dolly where he hurt you?)  Huh  We long for the day when we welcome you back to the community recovered and happy, back to your former self and your friend AFBitcorns.
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: April 14, 2021, 12:29:48 PM
Great post, Tok!  I think all you've managed to do is show how bad the current tax status of Crypto is and where more legislative work needs to go.  Now for the moment, let's go with your notion that MNOs are tax bound to sell their rewards.  That means they need to sell approx 30% each payout to cover their tax obligations.  So, currently DASH is inflating at a rate of 6.00%pa.  Mnodes contribute 46% (with 10% from the DAO and 44% from miners) and 30% of the 46% is sold to cover taxes.  So, 13.8% of the 6% is going to taxes, or Just under 1% of our 6% annual inflation is going to pay for taxes.  It other words, not nearly as burdensome as you would like to make out.

Code:
% spent on TAX = 6% X 46% X 30% = 0.828%

Dash is still in a multi year bear channel versus bitcoin. To call it fully bullish is premature IMO

Accepted!  Good chart, man!

How about simply charging a non-zero price for the 60% of our supply that's now been turned into a free gift ?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome, are you insane?

Meanwhile DASH is now fully bullish on the USD and the BTC pair.  Rant and Rave all you like, it isn't going to stop the impressive gains coming our way.  I guess this is one bull run you watch from the sidelines..
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: March 08, 2021, 12:03:13 AM
Dash at 44 in market cap ranking. Falling because the mining allocation is far too small. If this doesn't get fixed Dash will become irrelevant, if it isn't already

Sorry, this is an assumption.  I could just as easily state that it is falling because the inflation of DASH at 6%pa is twice that of Bitcoin.  The real reason the price is falling is because of lack of excitement, lack of inspiring news and no whale deciding on giving us a good pump.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 17, 2021, 05:19:06 AM

Tok, would you agree that one thing we could do that would improve the situation slightly is to reduce the collateral requirement for running a masternode to 250 DASH

The core issue is we have 2 markets and we have to compete in both. Ryan's analysis was incomplete. Miners are not sellers, they are brokers. They only make TINY profits because they are BUYERS of Dash at the most commercially critical point - the new supply.

OK Tok, let's work though this, so miners are buyers of DASH from the blockchain.  You reason that because miners have bought equipment and have ongoing costs in electricity and rent and wages that this expenditure is the same as 'buying' DASH out of the blockchain.  The place where we fall over is I and Ryan and the community are seeing this as cost to the network, but you see it as investment.  Correct me if I am wrong.

So moving forward, the miner 'buys' DASH from the blockchain at his costs.  I get that, he now holds DASH.  He pays his bills.  Now, what comes next?  Above you said he only makes tiny profits, so I assume you mean he goes to exchange and places a limit sell that is X% above his costs and waits for it to fill?  He does not sell below costs, because this is a model and that would be foolish right?

Couple of things here, in an ideal world, that might hold true, however, have you ever heard of 'miner capitulation' ?  This is when unprofitable miners sell stock for a loss to at least recoup some money, it tends to happen in corrections or a bear market.  How might that affect your perfect model?

Also, have you considered that the difficulty is not static, it will increase and decrease over time effectively making it cheaper or more expensive to mine, so if miners can't get the price they were after and start selling for less (they have to sell, they have bills to pay) then the difficulty goes down, in order to give new miners a shot at turning a profit.

The idea that miners only sell for a perfect profit seems wrong to me, in fact, I see miners passing on the costs of their operation because they are forced sellers on the market that matters most to us (and them) the exchanges.

The daily cost of electricity and rent and wages and mining hardware are absolutely born by the incoming investors into a POW coin like DASH.  In your order with your creative accounting, you flip the sign on a loss to a profit, financial alchemy!  Who do you think is ultimately paying for the miner's bills?

Now for everyone else, don't get me wrong, I am POW maximalist, I believe it is the best way to secure and decentralise a blockchain and worth the cost, however, I strongly believe the cost should match the value and I see the law of diminishing returns applies here, if DASH is secured by mining to  99.99999% chance it will never have a double spend, but adding another 9 implies we need to 100X our costs, which it does, then I don't consider that worth the extra expense.
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: February 16, 2021, 05:04:54 AM

Tok, would you agree that one thing we could do that would improve the situation slightly is to reduce the collateral requirement for running a masternode to 250 DASH, which essentially quadruples the hosting fee, puts more nodes on the network and makes running masternodes more accessible for average people which should improve the decentralisation of the network and reduce the constant outcry for shared masternodes to be built into the protcol?  I do not subscribe to the argument that too many nodes would congest the network, Bitcoin has more nodes than we do and TXes propoagate through it within a second or too, ofcourse they then take days to get mined.  I would support reducing the collateral requirements.
