121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 07, 2016, 07:20:45 PM

hi,

how much NEM was one stake at the start??

2,250,000 if I remember rightly.

yeah that sounds about right. And some got it for freaking ree Smiley
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 07, 2016, 06:15:10 PM
Congratulations to BTC38 for adding the first fiat link with XEM as their CNY/XEM trading pair.

This is an important milestone as we now have a link between the old economy and the new.

Congratulations. What will be the next fiat? Maybe on another exchange?

guessing crypto apex. Don't see anyone adding it before then.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 07, 2016, 04:31:22 PM
I bought and stashed a few XEM last year, can't remember exactly when. I have name.adb and name.wlt, as well as the password I used when creating the wallet. I do not have the private key. When I run the client, it sees the wallet, but when I type the password it tells me:

"Oops!

ERROR 123

NIS: ADDRESS BOOK COULD NOT BE READ"

Is all lost?

The filename doesn't contain any spaces or special chars does it ?
Where did you keep those files ?
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 07, 2016, 08:27:24 AM
...
Ive looked at NEM and tried understanding the product, which is pretty slick.
But I was a little concerned about the following:

a) Technology: Ethereum is the elephant in every alt room atm. Can NEM (or any other) compete with it?
b) Japan: Yes, the news outta Japan is promising for NEM, although since it is in Japan it is hard for me to gauge exactly how promising. It would be a major boon for NEM if it could get companies in Europe and the US to look at the tech.
...

re:a) - I'd say it depends on what your use case is. NEM has arguably a much, much lower entry barrier because the API is very simple and extremely well documented. If you try to get into eth it can be a little more daunting especially for more inexperienced people.
Furthermore NEMs mosaics, namespace and multi-sig are sure all possible with Ethereum but again it's just WAY easier to do it with NEM. So if your usecase is anything except smart contracts using Eth over NEM would be downright silly.

re:b) - Yeah, I hear ya. I have no idea how great exactly we're doing ther either because very little information is available in english. NEM had the success it had in Japan because we had people in Japan pushing it. Noone should expect this to happen in Europe or anywhere else without someone actively getting out there are marketing NEM. Anyone is welcome to do this and if you wanna be more active join our slack/telegram.
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 07, 2016, 06:58:45 AM
Now how about we don't lose our shit ? Let's just wait and see how long it holds and where it ends up settling Smiley
126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 06, 2016, 06:59:10 PM
There's a mountain of freshly acquired BTC looking for a home on Poloniex. Who knows where it'll head? Kudos to whoever got XEM on there in the first place.

I would have thought most of the new influx was on btc38. Interesting that Polo also sees such a demand.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 03, 2016, 08:38:03 PM
I'm in the field of cryptos for 4 years now and I've never seen such a dry and desperate project.
You may be right.. I will take my money and go on.

Oh c'mon...gimme a break. NEVER seen such a dry project ? Rly ? So every other project had daily pushs to their github repo (i don't know if you know how git works but not every activity is immediately visible on the public repos not to mention the serber part of NEM (NIS) isn't even public yet so you wouldn't see commits there) and news every day ? Never has there been a month without major news ?

Tell us about the projects you've been following so far.

That's none of your business. Just ignore that sentence. My points are legit though.
You may defend it but there is still this information-lack what concerns me as a longterm-holder.
I may sell my XEM's and everything's fine, but I guess I'm not the only one who things that this is suspicious.
You can tell the next person who's insecure about NEM the same stuff but that doesn't solve the problem.

Well let's look at your points 1 by 1. (sorry for not making those proper quotes but the post I'm refering to is on the same page anyway)

Quote
-The polo-trollbox for example. Ask for XEM.
One or two guys will answer, that it's just another platform, without a vision nor a roadmap. "Use Ethereum".

It's literally a trollbox. I think people just don't give a flying fart and frankly I understand why. We don't need weak hands that buy into hypes. Obviously only my personal opinion and I've seen plenty of people disagree with me there.

Quote
-Reddit subreddit /r/ournem.
A guy asked for a roadmap. That was 19 days ago and he got one answer.
/r/ournem has 66 subscribers. Wow.

Got a point there. The subreddit was never really active and personally i don't even know why it was started.

Quote
-Small Community everywhere.

What does that mean ? You mean the community is fragmented ? There is btt, our forum and slack/telegram. That's it. Most people are on slack/telegram nowadays and I can totally see how that looks inactive because most channels are private because anything else was constantly trolled and people would join literally just to insult makoto. However everoyne is very open about that and anyone can get an invite (http://blockexplore.in/search/join-slack/).

Quote
-2 news(articles in the last 3 months. (dragon fly, interview)

Honestly I don't feel like looking all of them up right now but there were some articles in the last weeks. Mostly in Japanese though which is why it doesn't really generate any sort of buzz.
But what do you expect ? Not everything is worthy of articles and NEM has a record of delivering results instead of announcing stuff that may or may not come in the near future.

Quote
I'm part of slack and all I read was "what can we do? send me 3 things we could work on"

What does that mean ? In what channels were you ?

Quote
-No official update on nem.io with news for japan

Totally true. Website is being re-launched I think. It's definitely being worked on right now.

Quote
Nearly no twitter-acticity

Last tweet was on march 2nd 2016. It's about quality not quantity.

Quote
-Last time Github was used is 3/4 days ago for the lightwallet and "artworks".
Then 11 days, 19 days and so on. Looks like a dead project to me.

explained that in my last post.

I'm not even saying you're completely wrong but you're imho exaggerating things. Thing are happening everyday. A new version of the app was released today to the testers for example. Everyone is very welcome to test it just join slack/telegram or forum.nem.io and ask about it. People are mostly avoiding btt.

Check out an exclusive NEM Interview: https://invesd.org/nem-interview/

Thanks!

Forget about the IMF, the central banks, fiat money, NEM is the future, oooooooooh yeah  Cool

Buy at the rumour, sell at the news.  I think the next updates will send the price rocketing again.

Whats the next update?
XEM is been very quite last few months which for me is abit concerning.
I do own a significant amount of XEM so I do want the price to skyrocket. The only thing that is skyrocketing is Ethereum atm.
Having said that, i do have a realistic point of view so i dont see the price moving anytime soon.

If quietness is still concerning to you then clearly you haven't been around very long. NEM has a record of shutting the fuck up until there is actually something to show and not announcing an announcement of an announcement Smiley
I'm not saying anything is coming soon and honestly I don't expect any yuge news anytime soon but they always come out of the blue for most people.
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Iota partnering with Microsoft put it in the Top Five on CMC? on: March 01, 2016, 06:03:14 PM
Is Factom or Emercoin there ? Why would you think IOTA will somehow profit more from this than any other project has so far ?

Remove Makoto as NEM core developer from the opening post, please. It is misleading.

Quote
NEM Core Developers
- Jaguar0625
- BloodyRookie
- Gimre
- Makoto
- Thies

No, what some of you are doing is missleading. Makoto is still very much involvd in NEM and still a core developer. He just isn't involed in Dragonfly anymore.
Can everyone stop drawing conclusions and then presenting them as fact ?
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 26, 2016, 12:30:41 PM
Who is going to build it then? He was the only serious tech guy, who had the skills and knowledge to do something.

By the way, FOUNDER and CEO is a nice name for an 'officer' and 'marketeer in Japan'.
All the investments, if true, were based on the team Makoto and Lon.

So where does this Dragonflypay company stand now?

Makoto, why did you quit?

Afaik he's working on another project now of which there are no public details yet.
He actually still helps out with coding although Lon is the one with the patent on the settling algo (i think that's what patented) so you're line about skills and knowledge is way off base here (coming from me that should mean something as I don't always get along with Lon Smiley). I understand there are more coders than just makoto. Even if not...coders can be hired.
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: February 24, 2016, 11:02:49 AM
I am interested in becoming a Lisk delegate when the network gets launched on March 21, 2016.

I would like to know what are the requirements to run a DPoS node?

I am fully qualified and have all the resources it can possibly be needed to run anything on a computer.  As a professional computer tech, I can get any hardware that I need in order to get ready for the event, but I will need to know what I will need in advance so that by March 21st I can be fully ready.

I understand that only the first 101 Delegates (or Miners -- seeing it in Bitcoin lingo) will be the ones participating so I would like to know what are the things that will significantly increase my chances of winning the vote as one of these delegates.

Are the delegates responsible for maintaining an absolute 100% (or close to) up time on the node at all times (because if so, I will have no problems complying with this).

Also, I managed to add the signature lines (on the past few days I was adding the signature manually on each post I was doing, but I eventually figured out how to do it properly from the settings).

The Delegates are choosen by the community, so even with 0 Lisk you can become a Delegate, If your in the Top 101 you need indeed uptime or you miss your block and people will eventually remove your vote,

Im going to run for delegate aswell, so Helping the communitie and show that you wanna help is a good start!

Good luck running for Delegate.

Is that true ? There is no bond required to become a delegate ?

Yes that is true, people just need to vote on you then.

But how do you prevent people from running a load of delegates then ?

By getting more votes then them thats the only way.

That doesn't actually make any sense though.
I setup 50 delegates (on the botnet i controll so all vic machines that i don't pay nothing for), come to the forum with my 50 personalities and play nice. What ya gonna do about that ?

Umm those 50 delegates you setup on your botnet are not going to have anything near a 100% uptime, and if you cannot maintain at least a 99.xxx% uptime you aren't going to get voted in.

Reason:  Botnet victims doesn't leave their PC on all the time.

But what I will be doing is that I am going to put some of those mountains of motherboard that I have laying around here hooked up with some of those hard drives that I dont use anymore I have on boxes to good use connected to my 200 port cluster of network switch, now that's what I would call at least a 100% uptime guarantee specially with my ultra reliable Verizon FiOS connection.

I picked 50 because you can find 50 machines in any botnet that do have that uptime. But forget that for a second. There is no question that anyone can run a great amount of delegates and nothing stops them from it.
Not saying it will be a huge problem or anything. I'm saying it could be. I didn't think the bond was unreasonable so I was suprised it's gone.
Why botnets? We can setup easy 25 - 50 different servers, different IP and different datacenter locations, with no problem in 24 hours...
And we can control, if we really want, al 101 delegates.

How can you prevent this dev, we need 0 coins per delegates?

Renting multiple dedicated servers to run a DPoS on each one of them could be a bad idea.

Keep in mind that dev said monthly USD $ recompense would be roughly the equivalent of $55 per delegate within the top 101 delegates and the cheapest dedicated server runs for around $55.  Say you don't need cPanel, WHM  and Fantastico and instead you setup with webmin or ubuntu server fine you bring the dedicated server price down to like $30, so... This means you will be paying $30 per sever to make $55 that's just a $15 profit and god forbid that some of your servers doest get the vote, well you will be using the profits that you gained from the voted in servers to help pay for the servers that didn't get vored in thus sitting there doing nothing.

Overall, not a good idea to rent dedicated servers for this purpose.

There are way cheaper options than 30$ for decently performant servers but what you're forgetting is that one could potentially controll the network and then he has a profit of whatever he wants.

I can't say it always works flawlessly but since you're only asking for a good design...i think NEMs wallet stand out in terms of design.
Note that this screen was taken from a tutorial so the delegated harvesting button isn't always in a red rectangle Smiley

New one is in progress though...

how can you trust these guys from crapti?

Regardless of the current situation of Crypti, the guys have proven that they are not beginners or scammers.
Furthermore, Lisk has a German lawyer on board with an excellent reputation.

But if you don't trust anyone in crypto, no problem.
Because no one compels you to invest in Lisk.
Thats quite easy.

When I look in your recent posts... not really serious.

Let me tell you his posts are tremendous. Frankly, he has a lot of friends in the crypto scene and they all love him. Also he's gonna build a wall around Lisk and have Lisk pay for it !
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum vs Lisk on: February 23, 2016, 08:27:59 AM
OK. I looked into this before and here is my opinion:

- Ethereum does everything internally, Lisk does not and uses a side-chain model where the side-chains are hooked to a public chain

What is the difference between "private-chains" hooked to a public chain (like those that will emerge up in the Ethersystem) and side-chains hooked to a public chain, as with Lisk?

Id argue they are more or less the same, maybe identical and this is all semantics.

Long story short . Developing apps on side-chains Lisk style may offer some short-term advantages, but big picture is that THE most valuable apps (dapps) will be those built on Ethereum, not side-chains dapps, not private-chain dapps

Also bear in mind Lisk's relationship to Crypti, an ambitious project which ultimately failed. Lisk is a second chance. I do not believe Ethereum will need any second chances.

I'd argue that it's a lot more than semantics. If everytyhing happens on the mainchain then every node can execute those contracts and not just some nodes that support that special Dapp (i.e. that sidechain). IMHO that is a yuge adavantage and also aids decentralization. Obviously there are downsides to this as well.

Of course I could be wrong about how ethereum works in regards to contract execution.
