121  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long to receive Bitcoins on: June 30, 2011, 03:49:56 PM
Your transaction block is 134035. At the bottom of the Bitcoin client (status bar), it'll tell you the number of connections and which block your client is at. When you go pass 134035; you'll get it. The btc is then in your wallet and you better make a backup of the address (wallet_id) and wallet.dat file.
122  Other / Beginners & Help / Any experience with Mybitcoin.com on: June 30, 2011, 02:52:05 AM
Does anyone have any experience with mybitcoin.com?
I know with my own wallet, I can have different addresses in my wallet_id. If I generate new address in mybitcoin.com; what happens to my old address? Can I still get the btc sent to the old address?
123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where is the wallet.dat file located? on: June 29, 2011, 04:57:09 PM

124  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Bitcoin Calculations on: June 29, 2011, 03:44:19 PM
You have to consider the selling price. It's not USD17.50 now; it's more like $16.++ now (that is if there's a bitcoin buyer for your bitcoins). On the other hand, the cost of electricity is constant ... per your calculation, USD40++ / mo. And that's just for the system running. You'll have to take into account the cost to keep the air / room temperature down during the current summer months or maybe add a fan blowing at the system. Otherwise the heat could kill your cards. Then it's more hardware costs.

lol ... never mind. I'm just being pessimist and amazed at the miner's. How do they break even?

 Embarrassed

I did google it; I just figured you meant something else / some special term used in bitcoin.

I think MtGox is up but trading at MtGox is still down
127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question from a new guy on: June 29, 2011, 02:30:21 PM
Sorry ...  Cheesy  I think you have inherited the newbie confusion from me.
I realize I don't have to rely on paypal / 3rd party for any payments. I was confused as to how btc will prevent fraud from happening without the 3rd party clearing house, etc. And as I read more, I got even more confused and thought I'm missing something.

Bitcoin does not end stealing and people being douches, if anything though, it makes it easier to tag those people Smiley

how do you tag those people?

google and anonymous never ever belong in the same sentence.

I totally agree. I'm surprise nothing has been done with the privacy issues on the Google map in US like other foreign country. And just antitrust lawsuit in US; nothing about keeping our searches, how we use internet, etc in their databases.
128  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question from a new guy on: June 29, 2011, 02:09:46 PM
That sounds like the use of 3rd party anyway. Just in a different currency. Companies like Paypal can easily adopt that. And here I thought we're trying to get away from those people.
129  Other / Beginners & Help / Question from a new guy on: June 29, 2011, 02:03:00 PM
Bitcoin was designed to use for transaction payment without the 3rd party - banks, paypal, etc.

However, I can't help to wonder what happens in this scenario:

Person A sells goods to Person B and agrees to accept bitcoin as payment. Person B sends the bitcoin to Person A. Person A never delivered the goods / services. What happens to Person B? What recourse can Person B take?

Unlike the use of Paypal / banks (3rd party), Person B can dispute the charges and the 3rd party will withheld the payments and Person B can potentially get their money back.

Any ideas?

I bet you are just another INTP . Loads of us here....

What's INTP?

I am new too. Can't help to wonder where bitcoin is heading. I read about MtGox was hacked about 2-3 weeks ago. And since then, what has been done at these exchanges? Are the security much higher now? Is it safer to transact?

Because if it's not, bitcoin will die in its infancy state considering the limited number of people and businesses that are aware about bitcoin. One has to admit ... at this stage, you may have hundreds or even thousands of bitcoins sitting in your wallet.dat; but, without these exchanges to trade in; it's as good as the trash in the bin. You can't survive with it.

I'm relatively new; been reading about bitcoin and have gotten a small taste 0.001 bitcoin from faucet. Hoping to learn more here ...
133  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to Bitcoins, having trouble getting them. on: June 29, 2011, 01:12:42 PM
You can mine or you can buy. I am new to bitcoin too, so take this with a grain of salt.

Tradehill is a place to trade. I have never traded there before. Looks like trading is down at tradehill for a few days - https://www.tradehill.com/InstantBuy/

A few of these exchanges are down, probably due to MtGox.com (another trading place) was hacked a couple of weeks ago.

If you really just want a taste of bitcoin, you can try bitcoin faucet - http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/ ... sometimes (when funds are available), they will send you 0.001 bitcoin for FREE. So you can try out to see how bitcoin works ...

Hope that helps.
