How to setup hdd farming vith multiple hdds? Should hdd be in raid mode, or single hdds? If raid, would a server with storage arrays of hdds be the best way to go? Interested in seting up rigs with as many hdds as possible. Thnx in advance  You will be able to run multiple DriveShare instances to select multiple paths. We are gearing up for the beta launch and we want to have something easy to use that works. Give it some time after that and we should be able to allow for multiple paths within the GUI. I am personally a fan of RAID 5, although you may lose some storage for redundancy, I rather have it running than lose data and have to download all the shards again. But if you want to maximise your storage then single drives or Striped RAID may be the way to go. Also remember that reliability and availability of your node together with download/upload bandwidth play a big role in farming for Storj. |

That's because I am NOT supportive of Storj. Not yet. Hence my questioning. But I did not think that not being a pom-pom cheerleader of your project (just yet) would be interpreted as being negative. I guess I was mistaken and exercising critical thinking, of course, is not only not considered helpful but even negative. Wow.
Given such circumstances, by all means go ahead and cater to your pom-poms. I definitely will not be interested in your project any longer.
Believe me we don't only listen to our supporters we pay as much attention, if not more, to critics. We welcome all questions and please do feel free to ask more. You do like our project, or at least you are interested so why not be polite when asking? It will go a long way and it will guarantee you a prompt answer, so long as someone from the team is around. |

I am not being negative at all, as a matter of fact I am trying, quite hard, to be positive. Statements such as the above will NOT help though. Avoiding my very specific question, will have the opposite effect, of course. Once again: What organizations? and why organizations will have access to thgose "bad hashes" but no individual?
Will you duck those again and come up with another snotty, totally inappropriate remark?
There are non profit organizations like the EFF who have released their own Ad Blocker tool (Privacy Badger). If and when an illegal file gets shared with a MetaDisk link, that includes the private key to open it, everyone with the link can see it. So these organizations could keep an eye on those shared links and mark their shards as bad/illegal and add them to a greylist. Furthermore if users see such links posted online they can also report them. I mean, unless you are being negative I don't understand the point of your questions. I'm not ducking your questions I don't think, with your attitude and tone, you deserve a reply. If you had even tried our MetaDisk beta and share a file yourself you would have known the answer to your questions. We do our best to be as open and transparent as possible, we release regular updates on development progress, and LISTEN very carefully to feedback from our community. We answer all questions as appropriate, and act upon feedback. We even write a blog post with ideas on how we could enable farmers to have their drives clean from illegal content. I don't think it is only my feeling but your last few questions on this thread haven't really been supportive of Storj. |

Even more confusing: So an organization could know of "bad file hashes" but an individual or individuals couldn't? What organization, a legal one, such as Law enforcement or just Human Rights and the like?
I HAVE read the blog post, of course...
No need to be negative about the fact that farmers could opt-in to prevent hosting illegal content. I believe it's the way to go. "Greylisting" is a well known practice from email spam to illegal content such as music and video, etc... Just Google it and learn something new today. |

This attempt is just very confusing for the average "farmer": "shards"?, "gray lists"? How do you see what it is in your hard drive if it is encrypted? If you can see it, the whole anonymity (decentralized) purpose is lost, so how are those "gray lists" created and by who? I must be quite dense for I don't see how you can get "the best of both worlds"by only allowing legal content in your hard drive if, by definition, you don't know -nobody does- what it is that you are storing... If you read the blog post it explains it quite well. Farmers don't know what is stored on their hard drives, we make sure of that. If an organization that keeps track of bad file hashes makes a public greylist for shards known to be associated with illegal content, users could opt-in. By doing this they prevent these bad shards to be stored on their drives. And it is not a centralized solution. |

My question was: What network? Who is storing for Stork as of right now? And does Storj have access to so many hard drives as to be leasing the network? I must have missed something because this just doesn't make any sense to me.
The Storj community has pledged about 1.3 PB to start farming with so far and counting. This is made up of lots of different users' HDs, from all over the world, who want to farm using DriveShare. We are running farming tests as we speak and you can see their status on https://live.driveshare.org. We are preparing to launch our first beta starting with Test Group A. We never stated we are ready right now, but it won't be long before we get going. We are confident we have a good plan, a great team, and are making continuous progress. Watch this space while our beta goes by, and at the end of it feel free to ask the same questions again. |

Hi, If i put in the 0.4btc to buy 10,000 storjcoins, what happens after that? I would like early access to the driveshare program, but do we get paid in early access? Also how much do we get paid
http://storj.io/earlyaccessPayment levels to be decided by the 'the market' IIRC Yea, I know 0.4 is just an estimatino, but what would happen after I buy the 10,000 If you have a crowdsale SJCX address and top it up to 10K SJCX you will be whitelisted for Test Group A. While Test Group B is for all crowdsale addresses no matter how many SJCX they hold. If you don't have a crowdsale SJCX address you will be whitelisted for test Group C and not the above. Rewards for sharing your storage with DriveShare will available starting from Test Group B. Our first Test Group A is not rewarded, testing will not be for files uploaded via MetaDisk yet but more of a network stress test. It will be useful to collect initial data and stats and scale things up from there by testing, fixing bugs, developing further. |

If the Burst crowd move over to this - in case this will get more profitable - I don't think a few GB or even TB be very profitable. I mean hundreds..  when we will be able to see any calculation? Until the beta is well underway and possibly after Test Group B, which includes rewards for sharing storage, it is difficult to estimate. There will be a lot of feedback from users once we reach the second stage of the beta, bear with us. |

They way u store file chunks and their size being kept pretty small should allow for most users to be able to host them. Of course if there is a very high demand for storage the more you have available, the more you may earn. Also very important is reliability, the more your DriveShare node is online the better the chance of it getting a contract (i.e. file chunk). |
