Be creative.
Thats the advantage of doing it in notepad by hand like me Smiley

Oh... please show you work!  I'd woud LOVE to see 148 come from 7 bits.   Grin

I never said that.

Is it true that the tCKE timings are given in mclk and not hclk units?
Because I found 7 and it should be 14 hclk (and no shifting is possible).

solved

OK, I found the main timings finally... that was tough af, almost no sleep.

SEQ_RAS [2 2 14 14 2 42] right?

edited... think i messed up b4

TNOPW   1
TNOPR   0
TR2W    21
TR2R    1
TW2R   6
TCL      19

I parsed all the 32bit segments as the MC_SEQ_CAS_TIMING reference says but none of them has the values you mentioned.
Are these calculated with or without the value offsets (e.g CAS to read data return latency - 2).
So 19 is actually 19+2 or already with the offset 17+2? Neither seems good, it should be somewhere around 14.

By the way none of the 32bit segments seems plausible, I think there must be some other trick too.
Something with the order of the bits? (MSB-LSB?)

Too many combinations, I almost spent my whole day again on this.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: TRULY Custom RAM Timings for GPU's with GDDR5 on: January 29, 2017, 05:26:55 PM
I also spent almost two days already on this matter and it is though indeed...
I think I could identify RAS and CAS timing 32 bit straps and also some of the individual timings in them, but...
I can't find the Hynix AJR datasheet, (i'm using the AFR one), and I also can't find the register reference guide for the polaris GPU (or even the Sea Islands series would be great).
Any hints?
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Server PSU for GPU power on: November 01, 2016, 11:14:28 PM
I see a lot of server PSUs on sale for real cheap. I don't see the point in buying high end PSU anymore. All server PSU are by default 92+ efficiency and are made for 24/7 use. I found real cheap one, 800W for 20$. After a bit of modificationsi made it so it can power my GPUs.
What did I do ?
Soldered 2 pins so it stars right away when it's plugged in (there is no need for any button or anything...)
Soldered 2 wired (+ and - ) on the board and wired them outside so i can connect multiple 6-pin connectors.
How to get a lot of 6 pin connectors ? You can use 24 pin motherboard connectors from old PSUs, just cut them in peaces and connect them properly.

How all this look:

Hope someone else will do this and save a bit of money instead of buying high end PSU !

Yes, I've been doing this for many years.

You have to observe some basic rules tho. Remember to always do the math first.
Calculate loads and wire gauges carefully.

I wouldn't do that 5-way splitting, because all the current flows through that thin wire pair that is connected to the PSU 12V and GND.
You should connect them all parallel directly to the PSU, or use thicker wires to split from. Check the temps of the main wire pair with your finger while applying load to the 6 pins. I am sure its going to get hot above 300W. If the wire is so hot that it hurts then it's too thin for that load.

Always check your setup by the junction law: SUM(I in) = SUM(I out)

Also there are high current type series terminals (I mean that white connector row). The cheaper ones can only handle 5-10Amps (120W@12V)!

Good tinkering!:)

130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 470 = 30Mhs ++ GPUz 80W on: October 26, 2016, 01:07:18 PM
24-48 hours are not enough some times, i remember a case were the crash occured after 3 days, you need to run for one week to be 100% sure

This is unclear.
Let's suppose you have 150MH on your rig and by running "unstable" you get additional 3MH total. If you have ssd and miner on autostart it would take say 3 minutes until it's up and hashing.
Five restarts a day make for 15min*150MH = 2250 MHm of lost hashes
so even in this case you still get positive result: 60*24*3 -15*153 = 2025MHm which is still almost 1% increase of total output

For me if a crash happens, then it's usually a hangup and the PC does not reboot automatically, and what is more it's continously drawing 350W while hung.

This can be cured by having USB watchdogs. I already ordered the arduinos to make some... not that my rigs are not stable currently.
131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 470 = 30Mhs ++ GPUz 80W on: October 25, 2016, 03:09:56 PM
for 29 MH i had 0 incorrect shares in 24 hours but 30 mh i had about 10 incorrect shares a day .. i wonder how much would that effect the end result.

What is your total number of shares for 30mh?

(incorrect shares divided by total shares) * 100
gives you the waste rate in %.

133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: October 03, 2016, 02:58:31 PM
I see that in Sidehack's solution the riser's 5V is also fed from 12V. Or just the same yellow wire is used for 5V...but I doubt it, because you need color coding if you run the wires in insulation tubes.

Thank you Zorg. Do you mean cuting of SATA connector? My PSU has 2 FDD connectors, so i can use them directly and test it.
Burning cable doesn't damage GPU Huh

No, I mean cutting off the floppy connector, because it's very weak for this application.

Hi,

I'd like to apply for a promotion code for plastic card.
I need the card for my daily purchases and withdrawals.
I already have a virtual card at another company, but it is too expensive and I'd like to move.
Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,
Zorg33
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: September 29, 2016, 07:30:24 PM
The capacitors are important.I do not see any difference between versions.I own all the versions and they work.

there is difference between the caps, even though you don't see it.
The earlier version has 100 uF caps, and the newer has 270 uF caps.
In practice it does not mean much, they are just filtering caps there. I have risers from V2, V3, V5, V6 and all work perfectly.
The quality and the shielding of the USB 3.0 cable is much more important.

@asbator
They are only good if you solder the wires directly onto the pins of the floppy connector, otherwise it's gonna burn.

137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What is the average life of a mining rig? on: September 29, 2016, 10:30:05 AM
The lifespan of the graphics cards can actually be longer than in a gamer PC if they are in constant environment and at constant operating temperatures.

Only the fans can wear faster because of continous operation.
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: September 29, 2016, 10:15:08 AM
The risers were designed for 3.9 A. When 480X series appeared they they draw 6.5 A.

So, they made like this if they increase voltage to 12 then turn it to at the riser 5 V , the wattage would remain same but the cables can carry the load safely.

No, that is incorrect.
The 99% of the power is fed from the 12V either way.
The card draws only 0.5A from 5V (stepped down to 3.3V by the 1084 IC on the riser)

139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question on PCI-E USB Powered Risers VER # on: September 28, 2016, 09:23:26 AM
Wow, I was also looking for a riser with 12V -> 3.3V conversion.
BTW the common version with molex connector is also capable of 12V->3.3V stepdown theoretically. but I did not have time to try it.
The dissipated heat could be a problem there, escpecially with RX 470/480, because they can take 70W+ through the riser as we know (edit: blackout, sorry.).
So the dissipated heat can be a problem, because a normal riser takes about 0.5A from 5V and the IC gets to 45C degrees. So if it needs to dissipate 4 times that, then it can be a problem.

So we should find a photo where the used step down IC is identificable.
The common type has LM1084 iirc.

edit2: It seems to have some kind of switching regulator, which is much better for this application. I also asked for a quote on alibaba:)
140  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to add a miner to a PSU with a modular cable... on: September 04, 2015, 03:07:16 PM
Watch out for the pinout if you buy the cables separately!
I made some of these cables myself for different brand PSU's and the have different pinouts.
For the Enermax it's easy because the pinout is written on the PSU.
If you buy 16AWG cables you only need 1 cable per S3 (1 connector for each board).
