121  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huge difficulty spike after Halving -- coincidence? on: November 29, 2012, 12:53:35 AM
If you look at blockchain.info before the reward halving, you can see where a lot of that spike came from.  Bitminter and BTC Guild both had especially nice runs of luck for about 12 hours preceeding the change.  BTC Guild's luck alone would have been interpreted as a ~2-2.5 TH/s increase in overall network speed for those 12 hours, and even a few hours after.

Bitminter's run of luck today happened because i turned off my GPU miners and fired up my FPGA's which arrived today  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
Why so happy? You will never pay them off.  Or I am missing something?

Half price for FPGA's, and no ASIC's shipping this year due to flaws found in their designs. They'll pay for themselves before any ASIC's start shipping. When that happens they'll be reprogrammed for other tasks.
With current difficulty and price you'll need ~8 months to pay them off, assuming half price for FPGA's and you paying nothing for electricity. ASICs will hit pretty soon, most probably Jan-Feb 2013...

http://www.tricone-mining.com/
My calculations at current difficulty/half reward and their current hashing rates says they'll pay off in ~8-10 weeks. Maybe less if GPU miners start dropping off the network due to unprofitablilty.
I somehow doubt we'll see any real working ASIC's until Feb/March at the earliest and thats if they don't have any further delays/issues from what they've already experienced.
You've got a major error somewhere in your calculations. Try this one http://bitcoinx.com/profit/index.php
Assuming that you have bfl singles and paid for each 300$, then hardware break even is 235 days without electricity cost.

You should edit the poll and run it again!
I edited it few days ago.

Site is not working and cgminer reports same with the pool. Everything was ok about hour ago.

Hmmm. Thats the issue on my isp side it seems. Many sites arent working as well.

134  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: October 09, 2012, 01:26:41 PM
We're replacing lumbering pieces of hardware forced into a niche with incredibly affordable dedicated hardware designed for the purpose it's serving.

... which is EXACTLY the reason why less and less ordinary people will start mining. First it was just ordinary computer, something
almost everyone had at the time, than it was computer with good GPU, than it was FPGA. It still worked fine because FPGAs were still
not so cheap and faster than GPU rigs to push them from scene. But now with cheap and super fast ASICs, mining means investing in
hardware that serves absolutely no purpose other than rising hash rate, and does not really guarantee return of investments. Go out
on fucking street and try to recruit random people, you'll see what they think of your "amazing deal".

There was a time when Bitcoin had bright future, but greedy stupid unenlightened self-interest bastards decided they want more for
themself and less for others. Idea of recruiting as many miners as possible instead of rising individual hash rates wasn't probably even
considered, or it was but sounded like major nightmare.

Since I like the idea of Bitcoin and I don't like what most of you turned it into, I'll say it loud and clear = FUCK YOU, RETARDS!

You are oblivious of so many important things. Justice is in the fact you can't buy that what you miss with your stupid earned money.
I couldn't agree with you more, man.
135  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: October 09, 2012, 01:23:05 PM
Once BFL arrives on the scene, I spend $300 and I need 2 USB ports. No outlets, no overclocking, very little heat. I can leave my miners running at 9W,

No, you need 4 USB ports and they better not be on the same circuit and they better not share 1 circuit (almost all do).  I hope you have an MSI motherboard that's 2 or less years old Tongue That or a pretty high end powered USB hub.  I can't wait to see just how many people are thoroughly disappointed by their melted front USB headers, the device powering down constantly, their mouse randomly cutting out, and their computer restarting randomly from the insane (in USB terms) power draw that just 1 Jalapeno will cause.
+1

138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is currently more profitable, Bitcoin or Litecoin mining? on: October 01, 2012, 09:13:14 AM
Mining ltc takes 38% more power for me to mine than bitcoin, and so profitability is currently less than for bitcoin. Ignore coinotron, as it neglects cost of power.
With my setup energy consumption is a bit lower (same temp, just zero cpu usage), but thats not really matter because I pay 0.056$ per KW/h.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is currently more profitable, Bitcoin or Litecoin mining? on: October 01, 2012, 04:07:47 AM
OP asked about mining Litecoin, and that is about 1.4 times as profitable using AMD GPUs, so that particular post was particulary misleading.
And Litecoin will never be merged mined  Roll Eyes
Coinotron stats is a BS. Calculate yourself, wheres more profit, for example my hardware 960 khash LC vs 1020 mhash BC. Who wins?

I can't see how raw Hashes/Second can be relevant to profitability.

 OMG. facepalm.jpg Ok.
http://ltc.kattare.com/calc.php
 960 khash = 87.0478 LTC PPS or 0.3421 ฿ per 24h

 1020 mhash = 0.358 ฿ PPS per 24h
Understandable enough? Now go mine litecoins.
