121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Easier ways to memorize private key ? on: January 07, 2014, 09:45:35 AM
You can actually reduce a key to 7 or 8 English words (while staying safe from bruteforce attacks for years to come) by generating it using a tool such as NoBrainr.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Holy crap that was a large transaction on: January 07, 2014, 09:02:04 AM
Check out this list of the largest BTC transactions ever!

http://blockr.io/trivia/tx

Doesn't seem to be very accurate... Largest tx is supposed to be 550,000 in 2011, IIRC
123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is the minimum transaction amount ? on: January 07, 2014, 07:31:48 AM
It looks lime somebody took the time and registered a domain just to answer your questions.
http://bitcoinfees.com

This is answering a lot of questions but not the OP's.

OP, here's your answer: Minimal output that is accepted is 5460 satoshis. (to prevent network spam)
This might change at some point in the future.

Google "5460 satoshis" for more info.

Just append -D__NO_SYSTEM_INCLUDES at the DEFS= in makefile.mingw

if it works: 1BonusDf776X1LKyDAd5mnFBfu7uNr4Qr7 Smiley

I have that in the make file.

Can you post the contents of that file so we can help?

I'm happily chainsnorting on OS X:  Smiley

128  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] chainsnort (cross-platform console transaction monitor) on: January 05, 2014, 02:28:34 PM
Colors!

Edit: Not getting colors. Also, I don't see any code for the easter egg.

I think only the executable windows version has colors and the easter egg
129  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / 6 blocks in 16 minutes! on: January 04, 2014, 08:54:08 AM
Now I know that the 10-min per block is only an average number, but still, this looks quite rare and unusual:

By the way, does anyone know how far behind or ahead we are of the expected height?

131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What is the minimum transaction fee? on: January 04, 2014, 07:54:50 AM
What's the minimum non-zero fee that makes sense? I mean, 1 satoshi is not treated by almost all nodes as a "proper" bitcoin transaction fee. The minimum non-zero fee used to be 0.0001 BTC per 1 kb, but how has 0.8.6 or 0.9+ affect this?

I don't know much about the theory, but currently, the minimum generally accepted non-zero fee seems to be 0.0001 (ie, about 8 cents). Of course, this depends on the transaction size as you said.

The chainsnort tool is your friend if you want to see what people are generally paying for their transaction fees (last column):

132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanity Genning someone's address? on: January 03, 2014, 10:57:19 AM
Apparently another $160 went into the account a few hours ago whilst I was sleeping. o_O?

 Shocked               Shocked

I think these two are special though...

https://blockchain.info/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2 and https://blockchain.info/address/11111111111111111111BZbvjr

Hash 160   0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Hash 160   0000000000000000000000000000000000000001
respectively.

I'll be scared when I see $5000 going into that address, not anything less.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanity Genning someone's address? on: January 03, 2014, 10:56:32 AM
It's very likely that nobody cracked anything remarkable.
It's just like https://blockchain.info/address/1111111111111111111114oLvT2 and https://blockchain.info/address/11111111111111111111BZbvjr
It's possible to construct an arbitrary Bitcoin address in Base58 format for sending funds as long as the check sum is correct (which is about 6 digits or letters at the end).

Another example I generated:
https://blockchain.info/address/1RickeSpeakingHereMyLongAdyCLxJH3
This is a valid Bitcoin address. If someone would send funds to 1RickeSpeakingHereMyLongAdyCLxJH3 , it would appear in the block chain (also seen by Blockchain.info) but I wouldn't be able to spend the funds because I don't own the private key: All coins sent to this address would be lost forever.

How do you generate that? Care to share a script or something?
134  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed Security - Is what I am guessing correct? Or wrong in technical nature? on: January 02, 2014, 03:58:45 PM
This is actually a very good question. What you are saying makes sense to me, so I'm also really interested to hear from the experts. (Is this an example of the so-called birthday paradox?)
135  Other / Off-topic / Re: 200 BTC paid for proof! of gmaxwell being involved in child porn! on: January 02, 2014, 09:20:19 AM
200 BTC paid for proof of gmaxwell being involved in child porn! As he claims.

gmaxwell still claim to be involved. 200 btc for his involvement.

...I can feel a ban coming...
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Monster transaction: 39016 BTC!! on: January 01, 2014, 07:51:56 PM
What are the odds that it's a 15 year old who happened to run bitcoin.exe for a while in 2011, just for fun ?
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Monster transaction: 39016 BTC!! on: January 01, 2014, 04:03:45 PM
I just saw this baby popping up on my radar.  Any idea what that might be??  Shocked

[EDIT] It seems the sender address is 13Df4x5nQo7boLWHxQCbJzobN5gUNT65Hh.

[EDIT2] Should have mentioned, the tool I've used to watch it happen live is the windows version of flatfly's chainsnort (official thread). It's oddly soothing to watch the constant trickle of transactions Smiley

139  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Where can I find the Date/Time of the last Difficulty Change? on: December 30, 2013, 05:08:47 AM
Put up a bounty and I guess the info should surface...
For example I could take the time to find this.

Sounds like you know it already Wink

No but I think I know how to find it out. It's just a little time consuming.
