121  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 12, 2013, 02:07:54 AM
Apparently the issue is with block #225430 - 00000000000001c108384350f74090433e7fcf79a606b8e797f065b130575932. I would assume that bets that have a number of confirmations before that block would be okay. We'll follow the official rules regarding the issue. At the moment please don't make any additional bets before the issue has been resolved.

Luckily, it's Monday with not a lot of games on tonight...
122  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 12, 2013, 01:53:39 AM
Due to the issue on the blockchain it is hard to tell what will happen with today's bets. My guess is that all bets will be returned. As of time of writing this message I don't think there are any major bets for today which have been resolved yet.

As I understood all transactions from earlier are fine and we need to worry about those.

Let's hope we get this thing fixed and back to normal soon.
123  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 11, 2013, 08:16:51 PM
Yeah it was on under... but I think the over and under selections should be listed separately to avoid confusion, should be an easy fix to make on the site. I'll give you a refund on your bet.
124  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is one of the devs (Luke-Jr) an enemy of Bitcoin ? on: March 10, 2013, 02:01:21 PM
No. Does that make me an enemy of Bitcoin too?
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does everyone keep calling them fees? They're not fees, they're BIDS! on: March 10, 2013, 01:36:14 PM
If they were called bids, then I would assume that I could increase my bid at any time - which would actually be pretty cool. If I'm not seeing my 0.0005 BTC "bid" getting through in 30 minutes or so and I'm getting kind of frustrated, I could double or triple my bid to increase the likelihood of it going through in the next few minutes.

hello mr bet,  sent u a private message  reguardin  fridays nba wagers, thanks

Problem (initially caused by Blockchain's update) solved and lost bitcoins have been tracked and returned Smiley Great thing about Bitcoin is that there's proof of every transaction.

Wow, got a super speedy payout on one of my bets today. Good looks, BB.

Thanks for the support Smiley I typically try to process those early games before the evening games start, it's nice to have games spread across the day instead of all games being played at the same time.

thank you based Schalke

Nice result heading into next week's CL game but I guess Huntelaar will be out for a while :/ Interesting to see how they manage without him.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the bitcoin community ban the Satoshi Dice filter patch? on: March 09, 2013, 10:24:20 PM
Here's the iceberg:

On December 23, 2011, VisaNet processed 11,000 / second - source http://blog.visa.com/2011/01/12/visa-transactions-hit-peak-on-dec-23/ - That's 950,400,000 transactions per day.

At 24,000 SD transactions per day is .002525% of that traffic. Said another way, Bitcoin is nowhere near ready for the global stage if 1,000 dust transactions per hour grinds the system to a halt.

If SD is a problem, fix bitcoin.

I have no idea if a thousand transactions is anywhere near the truth, it's just a number that I threw up there. But if you want to compare it to Visa, then, imagine if out of those 950 million Visa transactions per day, 800 million were coming from your local burger shop, from a handful of people who do nothing but swipe their Visa cards again and again and again. Seems fair? Point is, a handful of people are hogging a gigantic piece of the network, and it's affecting all of us. It is not "bringing the system to a halt", but it's certainly not helping (well, stress test is useful but that's more of a by-product).

I'm glad to see SD has already taken some steps to fix the issue, even if you insist that there never was an issue. I do agree that we need to fix bitcoin itself, but in the meanwhile, there has to be communication within the community as well.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the bitcoin community ban the Satoshi Dice filter patch? on: March 09, 2013, 07:16:35 PM
If SD is a problem FIX BITCOIN. SD is only the tip of the iceberg for transactions to come. Bitcoin must be ready or it will fail. Please don't set bitcoin up for failure because of moral objections to how it is used.

SD is not "the tip of the iceberg". Let's imagine a bitcoin-operated coffee shop and compare it to Satoshidice. Assume you have 1000 customers at your coffee shop every day, everybody makes one purchase. 1000 transactions spread over a day is not much.

With Satoshidice, a single user can generate 1000 transactions in an hour. He might even set up a martingale bot that was running 24 hours per day. Imagine a thousand customers doing the same, and you can start to see the problem.

In short: A couple of people using Satoshidice can generate more transactions than a ton of other businesses combined.

And I'm not even talking about the dust.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newly Discovered Flaw, Could KILL Bitcoin! on: March 09, 2013, 06:53:37 PM
If not SatoshiDICE, then somebody will use this flaw in the protocol.

It's not likely that this "somebody" would ever reach the kinds of volumes that SD have, so it wouldn't be much of a problem if this "somebody" would do so if their operations were minimal.

Second, by raising awareness of the issue, SD, the "others", and the gamblers can decide and do what's best for Bitcoin, since they would only be hurting themselves by harming the network with their spamming.
130  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 09, 2013, 10:55:51 AM
Great, thanks for confirming it Smiley I was a bit worried there for a moment. Oddly it shows 0 minutes and relay IP as 0.0.0.0 for the payments, but I guess that's just them updating their servers. I'm glad to see blockchain.info back up and running again as normal.
131  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 09, 2013, 02:22:04 AM
Hey BB, I want to place a bet on the over in the Spurs-Blazers game at 209. However, blockchain.info is down, so I can't send the payment. If the site's not up by game time is there anyway I can still bet the game?

Sorry, looks like the game's already started. If Blockchain's been down for a while, it's no wonder that there have been less bets than normal... I'm glad that they're moving to a better server but it's not so great that people can't make payments :/
132  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 09, 2013, 01:15:08 AM
Blockbet- Don't forget about me. I had a 5 BTC bet that hit yesterday. Just looking for the coins to play today.

Which game was that? I went over all the bets from yesterday and according to my information all winning bets were paid out earlier as normal. The only 5 BTC bets that I we got were for the Knicks - Thunder game, and they've were paid, addresses ending *EpgT and *bhR1. Blockchain.info seems to down for the moment so I can't verify if there have been delays in confirmations or something like that.

Deflation doesn't discourage spending, it does the exact opposite because everything cheaper  Roll Eyes

Exactly. There's no sense of being a Bitcoin millionaire if you're not willing to spend any of it.
134  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 07, 2013, 08:09:01 PM
Thanks for clarifying that. I don't use Blockchain myself so I'm not so sure how it works exactly. While I don't want to force any fees, I'm guessing that minimum-fee transactions are going to be more important in the future of Bitcoin especially for small amounts, like 0.1 BTC without a fee does sometimes take a really long time. So far I'm paying out all bets regardless confirmation times, win or lose, but that rule does need to be in place just in case somebody tries to take advantage of us.

Yesterday was a busy day, 14 matches in the NBA and most bets were winners... Congrats to the folks who made the right picks. Tonight there's only 2 games in the NBA, but great matchups nevertheless. Don't have to skip back and forth between games Smiley

Croatia is about to become a European union member this summer, maybe that has something to do with it? People are already looking for alternatives Smiley
136  Economy / Gambling / Re: BlockBet.net - BTC Sportsbook - No account needed, bets up to 10 BTC accepted on: March 05, 2013, 07:24:49 PM
some of my bets are slow at  confirming  , does that happen once in a while, thanks for reading

So far so good, I'm not seeing any bets that have had any problems. Like mjester93 said it's recommended that you use the default transaction fee and it'll be fine. If you want to make no-fee transactions then you should bet a bit earlier. Probably I have been making too much of an issue of the whole thing.

About the overnight lines, we try to post early games the day before but can't make any promises.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How a Bitcoin attack could play out on: March 05, 2013, 07:16:08 PM
Wouldn't make any sense for a hacker to steal something and then drive its value down. So there's your first clue that something's wrong.
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoins - a bigger flaw than originally thought? on: March 05, 2013, 03:19:38 PM
It's tough to really lose your bitcoins. Even if your hard drive dies (and there is no backup), you have a pretty decent chance of recovering your wallet file, assuming that there are enough bitcoins to go through the trouble. If you somehow forget your password, it might be worth it to put years of brute force cracking into it if you think that might solve it. If a person dies, his family might try to recover the bitcoins from his hard drive if they know that they are there.

UFC matches are up, almost forgot all about them! I think our odds are quite reasonable Smiley

Jury's still out on those additional leagues and MLB preseason games, but with those kinds of numbers, I think it's safe to say that March Madness will be covered Smiley You'll notice that we added Bundesliga this weekend and of course as we spoke earlier, F1 racing will begin in 2 weeks.
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Payment QR codes: a Potential for Abuse? on: March 01, 2013, 06:44:15 PM
One other kind of abuse with the QR codes is simply replacing the code with another one, without anyone noticing. Imagine a store cashier that has a QR code somewhere, an attacker will only need to distract the clerk for a second and then put a sticker of his own Bitcoin QR code on top of the store's QR code. No-one will know the difference until a few bitcoin have disappeared, and the thief will be gone by then.

I also really would like a system that would ask me for a password when dealing with large amounts. I need to maintain a fair number of bitcoins on my hot wallet, make a lot of transactions daily, and even if I'm very careful, it's only a matter of time when I'll accidentally send 17 bitcoins to somebody instead of 1.7.
