121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2017, 08:54:13 PM
Anyone running a ZenCash node - please change your reference repository and update before the 117,575 block, which will happen Tuesday midday. At this block the mandatory upgrade takes effect, it is also known as a soft fork. This is especially important for mining pool operators, solo miners, and exchanges.

The master branch at this repo is what you need to upgrade to https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/zen

This is a way to do it if you are currently running a Zen node:
Code:
cd ~/zen
## Set new Remote! This is the most important step!
git remote set-url origin https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/zen.git
## Verify if the new remote has been set to the correct _NEW_ Github!
git remote -v
## Git Pull and Compile as a normal upgrade.
git pull
./zcutil/build.sh -j$(nproc)
./src/zen-cli stop
sleep 10
./src/zend --daemon
 ## Verify if your version matches the newest release!
./src/zen-cli getinfo

If you are running a Zen wallet, you should upgrade that as well. There are binaries available for Windows and Mac for the Eleos version 0.0.7 wallet at https://github.com/zencashofficial/eleos/releases

Assistance is available:
Zen Slack - get a login at https://slackinvite.zensystem.io and the slack is at https://zencash.slack.com

Two words: Performance timings.

A few more words... NOT ALL CHIPS ARE BINNED EQUALLY!

I have been lucky enough to come across SEVERAL Sapphire boards from all generations since the 7000 series that were GOLD chips... always clocked and mined higher than almost any posts you find here.

But this year has shown me that luck will not always be there.

We own 9 R9 390 OC Nitros and 3 of them run like screaming demons covered in permafrost at 33+MH/s on ETH and 29+ with 430 on PASC dual mining @ 1200/1800. 4 run average and stick at or just under 70C and above average OC/hashrate, can get 1175/1750 stable and 32+ or 28/425 dual. 2 are just fucking scary and I cant keep their temps low or clock them up at all... even for basic gaming. They went into the kids PCs to hash alone when not in use but still get close to 80C in the A/C ugh, they keep stock temps and zero extra power and still hit 28MH/s and 26/375 dual. On ZCASH, they run cooler but only get a little over 400 sols/s which is not as profitable.

We own 3 EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 TI FE cards and two of them act like they do not know what 70C even is... hash at ~750 sols/s each. The third is scary though, and it runs 10C hotter than the other two. All three were purchased at the same time and arrived at the same time but 1 was definitely a lower binned chip. It hashes slower when compared to the other two, even when I run it in the direct A/C and keep it under 75C.

Sometimes, some cards of the same version are just better than others. That is what binning is for... to find the best chips for each tier of card being produced.
I'm not talking about R9 series...
I won't even bother to react on this.

Just say that every card hashrates can be improved only with performance timings. Copying straps isn't the way! And properly mod bios can make it a lot better.

The R9 was just my recent example. It applies to all GPU chips.
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to take a BTC out of a cold storage wallet safely on: June 12, 2017, 02:50:48 PM
You need the private key to sign transactions, it creates an exposure point.

You can create a transaction in isolation (off-line), sign it, write the resulting raw tx on a piece of paper, walk over to an online system with a browser and broadcast the raw tx.

The math required to sign a transaction will likely require some computing assistance.

The closest you can get is to create a new off net system that you can leverage, expose the key to temporarily (while off-net), and then destroy immediately when you have the raw tx.

pytools and other tools can do this too but requires some time and effort.

Otherwise, you must connect the privkey to a wallet to have it make an online transaction for you.

Best bet, create a new cold storage address, and put the wallet.dat of your first address into the client and let it sync. Send TWO amounts out in ONE transaction, 1 coin to where you want to use it, and the rest to the new cold storage.

One time deal, old cold storage burned, new intact and 1 BTC liquid.

125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the safest wallet to use for long term offline storage? on: June 12, 2017, 01:07:42 PM
What ever you do and how ever you store your bitcoins they will end up in a private key, one of the most convenient methods to store bitcoins for me of course after having a core wallet on a separate computer is generating addresses offline using bitaddress.org then saving addresses with their keys.
Another option which is convenient as well is visiting directory.io and entering a random page like: directory.io/30866184577
and picking 10 addresses with their keys and saving them in a text file.

Even I cringe at this... I just CAN't for the LIFE of me allow someone else to hash a BTC privkey for me and serve it through HTTP... no, just no, I won't do it.

You want ULTIMATE security, you use a paper wallet. You do that by making your OWN offline keys using Vanitygen on a PC with no internet connected. Put the keys on paper, in triplicate, store, and just send all your BTC to that address.

Then when you are ready to start using it, all you have to do is import that privkey into ANY wallet and the coins will be there.

Second time I have posted this here... there is no safer way... not even hardware wallets, laptops, hard drives, USB... none of it. All have failure points. A paper wallet's only failure point is your failure to be secure about storing them.

Mined for 24 hours on MineZ.zone with almost 1Msol/s and didn't earn a single bit of ZEN.
No response from support.

suprnova has been good to me.

The first post in this thread should be updated and include some pools. I had to scroll a few pages to find some.

Agreed. The OP is lacking up to date details.
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 11, 2017, 02:35:58 PM
Right now, miners, pool OPs and the dev team all choosing when to exchange funds all determine current price. That is typical of EVERY other coin.

The uniqueness here is, post replay attack hard fork, the rest of the already in dev features can and will be activated, adding further value and increasing exposure to other marketable services.
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GTX1080ti's: Better Options? on: June 11, 2017, 12:17:53 PM
Just finished my Beast Mode Build today.

8 x 1080 TIs.

very clean build.

 Shocked

Details? Esp. power supply config! And how is it performing?

A pair of 1300s can handle this easily and without risers. Those Asrock boards with 4 PCIe X16s man...

You could def build this in rackmount form in a pair of 4 ups with those boards... the GTX 1080s fit and run nicely!
130  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 2FA and what if i lose my phone...? (at the least suitable time) on: June 11, 2017, 12:13:21 PM
And if i have the QR code and the secret "code" displayed while setting up 2FA on an exchange and i do lose my phone... I can simply "move" the whole 2FA process to my new phone. But my question is: What if i do not have a second android phone "readily" ready...

Can i use it somehow on a computer? Specifically talking abotu DUO mobile 2FA app for android...? Can i instal it on my 2nd PC (offline PC) and use the computer insted of a mobile phone?

(we are of course not talking about SMS 2FA but the one that generates one time pass code).

is it possible to run on a PC?

IDK on Win... but I know you CAN run an Android VM on Win which will allow you to connect to Google and install apps. It isn't too difficult just a little time consuming. Once it is up though, you can turn it on whenever you need it.
131  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How Coinbase stole my life savings. on: June 10, 2017, 07:56:22 PM
Sorry for your loss dear. Coinbase (and all 3rd party wallets) always gives you a brand new address and hence it is necessary to check the wallet before sending coins.

Due to a virus, I too lost my coins from blockchain and I did not even get any notification about the same. Is there any solution for the virus in your case? I guess that major antivirus software too don't detect it as it's what in my case.

This is inaccurate. Every time you click Wallet Address, it gives you the same address UNTIL you send coin to it. Once that completes, the next time you click Wallet Address it will give you a new address.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I asking too much? on: June 10, 2017, 07:05:35 PM
I found this post interesting but, no one has chimed in really with next level ideas or pointed out anyone who has started doing so... only the pieces.

Well... all the pieces are here to do this, someone just needs to put it all together and back it.

The exchange you are asking for has to reside in the cloud... and to do so it needs to run in the EVM (Ethereum or Expanse Virtual Machine) which would execute the code base the exchange needs to operate. This is not cheap right now... not yet... in the future when these two coins increase in value, running inside the EVM will be much more cost effective. For now this is the limitation.

The EVM is designed not to provide CHEAP or even AVERAGE virtual compute... it is to provide INSANELY ANONYMOUS and AVAILABLE virtual compute that is P2P driven, resilient and where the code you submit to the EVM can only be changed by YOU the token creators for that platform. Therefore, it is expensive at current rates, you pay for the insane availability those platforms offer access to and for this idea, it is probably cost prohibitive.

Once that hurdle can truly be cleared, it becomes a matter of using blockchain for trust and identity for those users who wish to back tokenized assets on those platforms with their fiat or other physical assets. The Expanse dev team is already developing this too... a blockchain driven World Trust network if you will, which would allow asset holders to back crypto tokens with those assets tied to their World Trust identity.

Put those together with the developments in ZCASH private transactions, and several other developing communications protocols in promising projects here, you have yourselves the making of exactly what you are asking for.

GOOD things come with TIME and proper effort... and the pieces above are coming together whether we want it now or can wait a few more years.

PARTICIPATE and CONTRIBUTE... this whole thing gains value every day people do so.
133  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How Coinbase stole my life savings. on: June 10, 2017, 05:48:01 PM
Geupper, firstly I am genuinely sorry that you have been a victim of a clipboard virus. I can appreciate just how much money that 0.1+ means to you in your country.

Secondly, in the picture you posted, you have revealed your identity. Do yourself a favour and edit that post, and remove the image now - its done its' job, and we know now why your BTC never showed up.

Thirdly, this is NOT something I do, but here, have 0.005 BTC on me: https://blockchain.info/tx/3168d430e747bf20b24ae38f2bdb5de28f2e76165f52b755e1062583d2c430f6

(anyone messaging me asking for money will result in a negative rating...so don't even try it.)

Good luck with everything, and always remember, when dealing with cryptocurrencies, make sure you are using a computer with adequate virus protection... That's 100% essential. All the best.

That is such a nice gesture on your part Zepher. Good to know there are kind hearted, sympathetic people out there who care for others.

Like JollyGood said, that's such a kind gesture Zepher, I really appreciate it, thank you so much!

And I'll do what you and other guys told me, I'll just be more cautious next time. Thanks for everything guys!

A lot of people just jump in on this without doing the research they should. Things like what happened to you tend to scare off the faint of heart.. kudos to you for sticking with it! At least you made the effort to understand how this happened.

I lurked here through all of 2012 before I made an account to participate... that was March 2013. My first BTC transaction was in 2011... deposits only until I started actually talking with people here daily.

You are well on your way to making some friends here... keep your optimism but shade it with some skepticism and you will be OK. Learn from this lesson and I have no doubt you will recover and look back at this as a blip in your crypto life.

GL!
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you had fresh $2000 today... on: June 10, 2017, 05:40:18 PM
Maybe use it to build a miner... value of GPUs will likely be half by the time you hit 2-3 years but a good rig will run for that and longer... and once you earn back the invest the rest is power and profit.
135  Economy / Services / Re: Blizzard Games on: June 10, 2017, 05:35:12 PM
Also...

BTC > Coinbase > PayPal > Blizzard App > Games and Services.

Your service is really adding steps and possible trust issues.
136  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How Coinbase stole my life savings. on: June 10, 2017, 01:58:56 PM
I don't like to preach, but some of you have REALLY BAD online habits... this thing is not like the bank where you can bitch and cry and maybe they can help and refund etc. etc. YOU ARE THE BANK> BE YOUR OWN SECURITY. PROTECT YOUR OWN ASSETS. LEARN EVERYTHING YOU CAN ABOUT DOING SO.

The #1 thing about all of this, is it teaches PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for your valuables online.

Take the extra effort, export and backup privkeys, wallets, account credentials... and store them somewhere PERMANENT and SAFE.

Here is an example for you... I have a drive just for coins, wallets and their chains. It stays UNPLUGGED at all times until I need it. It only ever sees the internet when I want to update a chain or make a transaction for those coins. I have every wallet.dat, chain, priv/pub key and the associated miners that I have ever used stored this way.

I can never lose my privkeys... they are stored in the wallet.dat files with passwords... and they are all saved to paper and stored securely too.

Lastly, go the Vanitygen suggestion I made... get yourself a recognizable address and ONLY use it from within a secured BTC client.
137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 10, 2017, 01:48:04 PM
No bug... published error/exploit for replay transactions was disclosed and Bittrex is in Maintenance Mode to secure the coins.

ZEN is the most profitable... because per calc and rate it IS THE MOST PROFITABLE. It fluctuates though.

If it helps anyone else... I put all my Nvidia miners back on ZEN and have been collecting as fast as I can without issue. Local wallet filling up nicely. I will have enough to run a secure node in a couple more days.
138  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How Coinbase stole my life savings. on: June 10, 2017, 03:02:22 AM
I am very sorry to hear the end result was clipboard virus.

To date, that specific campaign has well over 10 BTC... they have made $30K USD using that virus... ugh.

This is why for the most part, I only send to Coinbase to sell... and Coinbase NEVER changes your address... so that was a super red flag.

I would suggest you be even more careful moving forward by doing the following:

CLEAN THAT PC - fresh install just do it.
You mine? Got an AMD GPU? Find a copy of Vanitygen, follow the directions and hash yourself your own address, pubkey and privkey... it is not hard and once you have that address... copy those keys to paper in triplicate and put them somewhere safe. That is a paper wallet, and if you familiarize yourself with your vanity address... you know you always have a safe place to send BTC for long term storage.
When the day comes that you want to send coins, simply import your privkey to a wallet and the coins will be there for you to send.
139  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How Coinbase stole my life savings. on: June 10, 2017, 01:02:15 AM
That is odd... at what point did the address change to the one in the pic... obviously you can see what is there now no longer matches the address you sent BTC to.

Coinbase is the only one that can assist any further. While I know it is crap to have to be without that coin for now... you may not be out completely. If Coinbase does determine something went wrong, your coins can be tracked.

i tried some stuff on my card (miners, oc settings)
then used whattomine.com or i leave it running 24h and calc it.

@daemonfox

i dont understand ur pro tip ~
i got one X16 SLOT (1070 on it atm)
the new one i will plug with a x1 adapter seperatly

and 2 more with x1's aswell.

so can how do i use my 540 PSU to get this 2 more to work.

Only by routing the rest of the needed power cables outside of the case. Otherwise you need a second PSU to power external cards. My tip was only to point out that if you do ever get to that point, you cant cross power from multiple PSUs into a single GPU, regardless if they are slotted or extended.
