1201  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best place to build the Bitcoin island in the international waters on: August 20, 2014, 10:59:19 AM
here's another cool idea for a floating island:

Man Builds Floating Tropical Island Paradise on 150,000 Recycled Plastic Bottles
To top it off he also built an off grid solar powered house on top of his island too, complete with composting toilet, and a rainwater collecting system. He has also added plants and a nice little garden.

Anyone with an mBank card still working?

Did they block ALL the cards or just some batch(es)?

I've 3 loaded and still working

How do you load the cards?

Do you withdraw from ATMs?

Withdraw from paypal?

Do you do online purchases? Or buy at physical locations with pin?

Thanks

I've got them loaded by the same very trustable buyer on localbitcoins (be careful if you go trading there).
I withdrew from several ATMs and used them to buy stuff in person. No paypal and nothing online for the moment.

Wouldn't a coin be revived as soon as 1 person ran the client again and started to mine?
Then again, after such a storm there would be a rush among people to start their clients. In such a scenario that is.

Yes! with most of the wallets lost and electronics fried it would be 2009 all over again!

What am I teaching? That price does not matter. Number of bitcoins matters, and low prices are to be used for buying them, not selling.

And soon anyone may be able to buy 100 BTC by selling a single testicle:

Who hasn't cut his loose?

me. I use to go down with the ship since 2011 and always came back afloat richer. But I stay in crypto for other reasons too.

Zeroing things out could be awesome!  Grin

maybe, if you keep your coins in a paper wallet.

And USB drives etc NOT safe ?
hmm ? if they don't have active power i thought they would maybe be ok but i am not sure.

I guess that any electronics exposed to an EMP would be fried for good.

anyone knows if CD/DVD are EMP-resistant?
Because any data on hard disk and USB keys/flash memories would be probably pretty much FUBAR

Investing in Bitcoin later when the price bottoms or investing it in gold for the long term scenario that I think will happen (war, total collapse...).

Right now silver seems cheap as sh*t to me, and that's what you can go buy groceries with in SHTF

What is SHTF?

Shit Hits The Fan

You think you can still buy groceries when shit hits the fan?

possibly, if you go with a shotgun to keep away the brain-eating zombies

Exinvestors, have you found any other good investment in bitcoins?

For the moment I keep my 900K doggiecoins working at: https://www.dogedice.me
plus 1.6 btc invested at https://dicebitco.in
but I would feel safer keeping them in doog's hands

if they can manipulate gold and silver price, just figure what they can do with the btc market. And just like with gold and silver, their aim is to scare little ppl out of the real value to keep them in their fiat ponzi scam. On the long term they're losing anyway with pm (looking at asian imports), so i hodl or buy both btc and pm when nice discounts appear and i've fiat surplus.

I have no doubt that central banks and governments are afraid.  But, when he starts his writing with "I'm a trained economist with a B.S. in Computer Science, a M.S. in Operations Research, and a PhD in Econometrics" that almost guarantees that his "employer" could figure out who he is instantly, yet he claims he wants to remain anonymous.  Thats a pretty rare combo of degrees.  To me, it makes me VERY skeptical of this story

yes, it's probably bogus, but the fact that it seems plausible at first sight is good enough for me :-)

Sorry man, I went to bed shortly after this post. but... Take a look at the mining pool chart, all big miners are pools, that pay out individuals, so they would not be able to buy those coins. The biggest private pool mines less the 20% of the coins. That is the biggest chunk

OTC trades for large amounts of clean/virgin coins would be at an hefty premium I guess. Enough for pool owners to trade their virgin coins for cheaper used coins on an exchange. But it was just a guess.
Any other idea on who and why is dumping is welcome.

I have difficulty believing they can move the world to total submission because at this time there are still self-sufficient people living in the mountains and hinterlands, especially in the third world countries. Filipinos in particular can survive on root crops that grow naturally and bananas. It is not a nice subsistence, but they've done it as recently as the 1990s. Modernization is proceeding rapidly now and I see new roads into the mountains, but I doubt it is ready on time.

What's happening in the world economy is just another controlled demolition, but in this case the nuke in the basement was placed one century ago with privately owned central banking. The aim was to set in place a mechanism to automatically funnel wealth at the very top (by debt-money and 'public' debt) -which worked nicely. Now it has to implode because there is little to none further wealth to suck from the sheeple (due to technology, markets saturation, unemployment, demography, etc.), so now it's depopulation time.

Possibly there are remote parts in the globe insignificant enough for the reptilians at the top to not care about, and that's where i would suggest to move to a.s.a.p.

I have the feeling that the Mainland Chinese exchanges are winding down.  Just a feeling, no concrete news.

Interesting. I've just seen on zerohedge that their shadow banking is folding, so maybe there are deep pockets in liquidation mode for reasons unrelated to BTC there.
