12001  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Waves - Cut losses or hold and watch again in a year on: July 01, 2016, 01:21:54 PM
So I've FOMO'd a tiny bit of BTC into Waves ICO, after reading their plans it all looked legit and worth a shot.

Now I probably have witnessed the worst communication/PR from any project with more than 1 mill in funding and I'm thinking about cutting my losses.

To be honest, the amount invested isn't that much (about .5% of my total portfolio).

What would you do, hold and wait? Or dump it..

Here's the thing...  In trading or investing, your aim for the long term is to preserve your bankroll , war chest, capital, funds or whatever you may call it.  So with that in mind, it's almost always a good idea to cut your losses, save what you have left and be ready to pick a better spot then enter a trade again.

In your case with Waves, I think it would be a good idea to cut your losses for now rather than holding and risking that small loss into a big loss.

Or he could go to Crystal Palace and play under Alan Pardew again.  I loved watching him at Newcastle years ago that same year when Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse were doing well in the attack.  I think they finished 5th that year.
True, he was amazing at the time, thats why I'm confused why no big team want to sign him.

Ibrahimovic has officially announced that he would play for Menchester united in the next season. wow I think the Premier league will be more attractive. source : sosial media official account Ibrahimovic
Yeah I have seen his instagram profile who posting clearly Man United logo in his post. I'm not sure Jose Mourinho can make Man United be great again, but if they have Ibra there, the chance become bigger! He has a personal record which he always made his team win league title. But if he still cant make Man United win the league, at least I hope he could make good performance.

I think getting into top 4 is Man United's main goal for next season.  In order to rebuild their team in the next 3 years, they would have to have a CL spot in order to attract the top players they would want to acquire.  Maybe in two years under Mourinho they would have a chance to win the EPL.  But it's a long hard road, especially with Pep around.

Right on brother!  No manager should want to work with that bastard traitor.

you think ? For me ibra not is this big player, have more better player and more young.
How many milions have paid Man United for ibra, one player of 34 years ?

I think Man United got Ibra on a free transfer.  So it's a good deal getting someone like his caliber for free.  And at 34 years old, he's still very very good.  I hope he does well in the EPL though, it might not be something he's used to.  Unlike at Ligue 1, the EPL is way more competitive.

Real Madrid wants to buy Alaba from Bayern for 65 million euros  Shocked  if this is true they're crazy.  If I were Bayern I'd sell him right away lol

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3667576/Real-Madrid-offer-53m-snap-Bayern-Munich-s-David-Alaba-Carlo-Ancelotti-eyes-swoop-Raphael-Varane.html

what is only david alaba price transfer 65 milion euro ? , is deal crazy transfer
David alaba is a good player, and one of the best wingback, and we know it when bayern got some thropy, but yes i think 65 Milion euros are  too much, because alaba playing not too impressive on Euro with austria,he can't lead his team into next round, its proven he only can playing with bayern player, not with other team.

Real Madrid has a tendency to bloat the prices in the transfer market.  So it's really no surprise there if they splash 65M Euros for a player that clearly should be priced less.  I guess they really want him badly and are confident of Alaba's abilities.  But one bad thing about this is if he does well at Real, he'll be priced even higher making him almost un-buyable and he will be stuck at Real.  I was hoping he would be in the EPL one day.

And ManCity looks to buy Nolito from Celta, I dunno, I wasn't impressed by what I saw from him on Euros.
I think Nolito is good enough, but I'm not sure he could compete with Man City current players. His position is winger and striker, so he will just be a sub player of David Silva or Sterling. He need to work harder to get main position if Man City really want to sign him.

Chairman of Nice announced that Hatem Ben Arfa is free now, where will he go? Leicester City, Lyon and Fenerbahçe wants him.
Ben Arfa is a great player, I dont have any idea why some big clubs dont trying to sign him. If he want to play in Premier League, Leicester or Arsenal is suitable with him imo.

Or he could go to Crystal Palace and play under Alan Pardew again.  I loved watching him at Newcastle years ago that same year when Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse were doing well in the attack.  I think they finished 5th that year.

The only team that I will support is Everton. I hope they surprise the league and everyone like what Leicester did. Just don't know when is the right time though. Grin

Leicester's championship was one in a million. We won't see any other surprises for the next 25-30 years and maybe more. Manchester City and Arsenal are 2 favorite teams to win Premier League in 2017.
I don't understand why you think arsenal are favorited to win premier league next season?
They are sucks you know it with arsene wenger these 10 years.
Arsenal need a new manager to make fresh face of arsenal.

I tend to agree.  Wenger has shown no ambition of taking Arsenal to the next level in all these years since they won the league.  It's like they're happy just being at top 4.  The fans don't like that and hopefully the owners realize that they need to aim bigger especially now with Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea aiming to be in that top 4.  Arsenal could be the weak one out of it.

Again, your comment about Mourinho's strategy 'can't work in the EPL' ever again is simplistic.  I mean who are we to judge that?  We are mere spectators in the game and far from being experts.
Yeah and those comments about Man United will be great again under Mourinho sounds optimistic.

I never said Man U will be great again under Mourinho.  But he could pull them out of the rut.  Why?  Because his record and success speaks for itself.  He has been more successful than most managers out there in modern football.  That's a fact.

We will see what he can do for Man United next season.

Yes.  This is an especially very exciting time to be an EPL fan.

It's really our fault.  Players keep going back to a site that has historically proven to be unapologetic about its mistakes, either incompetent or malicious in overcharging and underpaying the players, and committed to a campaign of misinformation, propaganda, and shilling to hide all of the ways players have been hurt by this site.

There is absolutely nothing that Betcoin offers than cannot be had at ACR/BCP and despite the many issues that WPN has, at least these skins seem to be less likely to steal from the players.  Expecting betcoin to change how it has historically conducted its business is like expecting an abusive husband to stop getting drunk and beating you at night.  Everyone would be better served by simple logging off and finding another site to play on, especially since WPN itself has other sites fully open to bitcoin.

Or ya know...keep giving them money and validating their systematic abuses.  Betcoin doesn't change because it doesn't WANT to change, and why would it when suckers log in voluntarily knowing fully well that that the site will let them down in one way or another.

This is not true. ACR/BCP doesn't offer nearly as much rakeback as Betcoin. I'm getting 70% right now because of Xiao's rakeback and been getting paid for last year and a half now. Never had a problem cashing out, just some problems with software down or ddos. Speaking of that did anyone get a message just now saying thanks for playing but we need to restart/maintenance?

Where do I sign up for 70% RB, and can I avail it if I already have an account?  Thanks.

Three suicide bombers opened fire before blowing themselves up at the international terminal of Ataturk Airport, Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin told NTV television.

Several witnesses reported two explosions but Mr Sahin said authorities believed there were three bombers.

He said some 60 people were wounded. Six of those sustained serious injuries, the state-run Anadolu Agency said.

Two of the attackers detonated their explosives when police fired at them, a second official said, citing information from the interior ministry.

No mention of ISIS yet, but I wouldn't jump out of my chair if they claim they were behind this.  What is the world coming to?  We are living with cancer, there's just no way to stop this now that even war tactics is becoming decentralized.

As we are witnessing fourth generation warfare becoming more relevant, we have not seen any state or country becoming successful on how to counter it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgo07sdTA20

Cliff Notes

- Brock should train in bigger camps

- Hunt could be taken down in the first round

- Lesnar cardio could be lacking

- Hunt clinching with Lesnar would be a mistake

- Reach advantage will help Lesnar in take downs esp. when hunt tries to close the distance

- The later the fight goes, the better for hunt

- Hunt wont over power Lesnar on the ground, it's not easy vs Brock

- Hunt could be taken down easy due to his flat footed style

- Hunt uppercut not likely to happen if Brock attempts a takedown

- Hunt's ground game is rated badly

I do not exactly know what goes on behind the scenes when a coin/token gets listed but you'll know that a team behind a platform knows what their doing because the maintained volume for their coins is always high right from the beginning.  A prime example of this is Ethereum.

It would be naive to think that the market activity will just come without some kind of manipulation going on to jump start trading.

Wow! So manipulation or die in your opinion?

I am thinking tokeweed is correct:

Thanks for the links and discussion.  I still can not for the life of me wrap my head around the "volume" of alt coins traded recently.  With no transparency into these exchanges, we have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.  I'll put dollars to doughnuts there is more then meets the eye.

It is obvious that the high volume are the insiders buying from themselves in order to control the market price.

The way this works is that if you flood the exchange with high bids and high asks, then the small volume of actually lower asks is insignificant and minor cost for the insider. For example let's say the insider is 99% of the volume (using Sybil identities on the exchange), then the 1% that wants to sell is an insignificant cost to the insider, because the manipulation of the price drives more speculator demand on the bid side than on the ask side.

So in this way, the insider is actually unloading tokens at higher and higher prices. This games goes on until the insiders have unloaded their tokens at nosebleed prices. Then it collapses.

In Ethereum's case, it was alleged by the Dao attacker that the insiders are using their tokens as margin to do margin trades to provide more upside price leverage manipulation. So first you use your tokens buying from yourself to pump up the price, then you use your ETH to short the ETH price, and start selling tokens rapidly to cause a crash in price. You cover your shorts, and repeat the process again driving the price up. But you don't crash the price too far, so as to keep the dream alive. Having very good marketing also helps.

This is why we often see a huge decline in the price after the initial ICO pump, as this enables the insiders to accumulate tokens very cheaply and then the upward price manipulation begins.

Note the insiders need to make sure they are the only large holders, so no one can compete with them and for example sell into their pump.

It seems if you don't do this manipulation, then your token will be scorned by speculators and your reputation as altcoin developers will be tarnished.

The developers if they are honest, will take their funding and continue to work hard. The market manipulators are going to come in and buy up any good coin and pump it. The only way to stop that would be for the developer (and/or the community) to hold the coins tight fisted, but then this creates a dead market such as Monero which has never seen more than 4X gain after the initial pump by rpietila.

So what can an honest developer do  Huh He has no choice but to let the speculators have what they want. The important thing is the developer is funded and able to drive the ecosystem to success. If so, then the downside price crash will be limited or at least a great buying opportunity. Fundamental development (coding) and marketing matters.

But alas, DEX is going to be scorned because the manipulators can't operate there. Or can they? Speculators will go where the (manipulated) volume is.

Speculators learn to play the game.

Nope, I'm neutral.  But that's reality.  It's all I'm saying.

I had sort of religious transformation of sorts and come out of my dogmatic cave to see the light of day.

1. When no whale is supporting the volume and price by manipulating with his tokens, then the price will decline and thus a whale will be able to accumulate low and then begin manipulating. So preventing manipulation is really difficult. Monero seems to have been able to do it, by selling "holier than thou" Jim Jones koolaid locking their supporters into a perpetually underperforming token but most other tokens aren't able to achieve this Zen masochism:

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/monero/

Note XMR has good volume though. So it has apparently some savvy traders who employ leverage.

2. Thus we might as well as accept that manipulation is really just trading. When speculators play, they must understand the rules. And that is there are no rules preventing manipulation. Thus to be competitive, manipulation is part of the game.

3. A coin developer has the choice of letting someone else do the manipulation for him (e.g. Bobsurplus and destroy the token such as Bitbay), or do it themselves so as to more beneficially maximize the long-term value of the token and project.

Wall Street has been using tactics that employ manipulation to great effect.  I don't know why it would be different in crypto.  If you think it's dirty now, wait until the experts of Wall Street enter the scene.

Possible short opportunity on ETH coming.

Relevant link: "Ethereum's DAO Wars Soft Fork is a Potential DoS Vector"

But that noted, an ETH short is a risky bet because community sentiment seems to be solidifying in favour of a hardfork. To be frank, I don't know what's going to happen to ETH: the riskiness on both sides has gotten me leery. Undecided But then again, I'm not much of a trader. Smiley

Risk is always a factor in trading.  It's nothing new, and it won't really make sense if your trading decision changes because of it.  I mean isn't that what we trade for?  To take calculated risks...?

On another note, let's say Ethereum does the hard fork.  Will that stop people from attacking the network again?  The DAO hack was just a precedent.  Expect people to try these attacks again and again.  And if discovered and proven that the fundamental flaw is in Solidity itself, expect the worst.

One season is hardly enough to judge Mourinho's ability as a manager.  So he was on a rut at Chelsea last year, so what?  He's suddenly an ineffective manager now?  That kind of thinking is too simplistic.
One season? Do you think I judging him without any good reason? I'm a madridista, and I saw what he did for Real Madrid with his sensational attitude. Even he was fired twice in Chelsea.

Did Mourinho tell you on what strategy he will use on MU next season? No, right? He might change his strategy anytime he want, so you cant judge it before you see the strategy.

He is a typical of coach who has limited amount of strategy. If his strategy cant work in a match, then in next matches he wont make any new one, and prefer to make a little changing on his current strategy.

Before became a Man United coach, Louis van Gaal was an extraordinary coach with many successes on his previous teams. And I still remember Man United fans were very optimistic on him after club announced LvG as their new coach. There is no different situation now, with many great achievements by Mourinho, still there is no guarantee he will make Man United rise again.

Again, your comment about Mourinho's strategy 'can't work in the EPL' ever again is simplistic.  I mean who are we to judge that?  We are mere spectators in the game and far from being experts.

It's no surprise really.  The DAO was attacked and lost quite a lot of ETH funds.  I'm more suprised as to why the price has not fallen even more right after the attack.  But a lot of people (me included) speculate that it's the insiders of Ethereum that are trying to support and maintain the price after the big recent dump.  And they should in order to protect their whole investment in the platform.  But how long could that really last?

I mentioned a possible short opportunity coming just a while ago in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1045967.msg15394832#msg15394832

I believe it is more than one season to judge mourinho. His overall performance with chelsea is not really impressive, he won with some luck and most of the time he relly alot on defensive strategy which makes chelsea an extremely boring team to watch.  I doubt he will be able to bring glory back to manchester united

Then why did Manchester United hire him?  The Man United board of directors deliberated on hiring Mourinho or not for months before finally deciding to get him as manager.  Why?  Because of his ability to win trophies.

He has had an impressive career.  His trophies and record speak for itself.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Mourinho

Possible short opportunity on ETH coming.  Weakening price action + lower than usual volume are early signs that it's starting to go down.  As we have seen, it was really supposed to go down as a lot of holders dumped their ETH tokens and are not touching this at the moment.  But I speculate the price has surged artificially by the insiders in order to save the platform.  And rightly so, they have to protect their entire investment.

The question is how long would it last though.  We still haven't heard from the attacker in days and he could still be there lurking and waiting for the right moment to strike.

Why do people keep saying that Manchester United will be stronger with Jose Mourinho? His strategy can't work again in Premier League at all, look how bad Chelsea was in early of last season.

Well done Iceland well done
i did said before that they are biggest sensation of the tournament but i think that England couch should put sooner Rashford in play

Both sterling and kane hasnt really contributed anything since the euro and yet vardy that has made great contribution was in the subsitute. Roy hogdson needs to start checking up his brain, vardy is the striker that brings glory to leicester but he didnt really use vardy to his fullest on the euro
Roy Hodgson have already resigned as England manager , so he will got plenty of times to check his “brain” .
I'm looking toward to who gonna be the next England Boss . Alex Ferguson obviously too old , Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs are lack of experience. I don't see any clear choice for England.

I think the sudden England squad change has something to do with politics behind the scenes.  Roy Hodgson might have been pressured into playing the line up that lost vs Iceland.  No wonder he quit.  But it's all speculation until we see an official statement from him.
