12041  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Worlds first Damascus Bitcoin Knife from 2015 1/20 (still sealed) on: October 05, 2018, 01:46:45 PM
Pretty sure I own the first one of these knives made, which was featured in a news article and predated the production run of 20 knives.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=941287.msg10340032#msg10340032

In any event, a great piece and rare find in good condition. Good luck with the sale. Mine has definitely seen some wear as it is regularly handled.

EDIT:
...originally sold for about $200 here on the forum.
...snip...
I have been collecting and trading knives for many years and would value it at about $500 max.

This is a pretty common problem in the crypto collection community of trying to value things in BTC over time instead of USD.  You get people asking $14,000 for a $500 knife (I'd value it a bit higher but my opinion is biased).  Always wise to check the original price paid in USD when buying a previously owned item.

Cool to see some .bit sites around.  Good luck with the auction and supporting NMC!
12043  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: October 01, 2018, 06:38:54 AM
We have about 900 blocks left to go, and when the 420,000th namecoin block is mined then 12.5 NMC per block will be the reward.

Nice. I will celebrate like I did the last bitcoin halvening. Drinking beer watching the block explorer.  Grin

Would be great if there were a countdown somewhere.
12044  Economy / Securities / Re: 📈 NastyFans: The Bitcoin Enthusiast Fan Club (est. 2012) on: September 28, 2018, 04:22:49 AM
I’ve sold off the L3+ in preparation for the next generation of miners and sent BTC to the NastyMining holding address.
12045  Other / Meta / Re: Shouldn't bounty managers clean up spam posts in their thread ? on: September 26, 2018, 07:23:49 PM
The crazy part is that some bounty managers have the audacity to claim they're preventing spam...  They need higher standards as to whom they allow to participate, but they only care about getting as much money as they can.  I believe some go as far as to create scam ICOs using alt accounts just to get people to invest so they have money to pay themselves to run these spam campaigns, act as escrows, and then participate in the campaigns using their alt accounts.

We are seeing a step towards reigning in these members with the introduction of merit and the restriction of lower member levels making it a bit more time consuming for them to continue with these tactics.  It is sad that theymos is having to start taking steps to address the issue of paid managers failing to protect the forum from spam, but I think with some more restrictions and eventually the banning of those found to be acting in bad faith with regards to bounty programs, ICOs, and alt accounts, we may see some improvement down the line.

(not limited to "their own thread" in my thinking, but relevant to the underlying problem)
12046  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos should reconsider amount for "Donator" and "VIP" status. on: September 26, 2018, 07:04:25 PM
No, theymos should not do that.  I have said time and time again that I think restricting the lower level accounts and providing a paid tier of memberships with additional features that can also be earned through merit is the way to go.

There's lots of room between Copper Membership & Donator, and there's lots of features that can be added to various tiered member levels.  Avatar, signature, PM limits, forum section access, viewing signatures, and maybe new features such as the ability to block personal messages from users with 0 merit or with negative default trust.

I don't see a need to devalue the member status of those who were supporting this forum with money out of their own pockets 7 years ago, before most people had ever heard of Bitcoin.
12047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I buy TRON or ETH? on: September 26, 2018, 06:57:48 PM
While they are both similar in that they have fooled a majority of investors to believe they can deliver on their promises, at least ETH is SOMETHING, where TRON is just a flat out manipulation scam with a lot of funding searching for relevance.  So there's that.

Personally, I would run screaming from ETH if I owned any (should have done this when cryptokitties showed it for what it is) and if I ever purchased any TRON I would seriously consider finding a new way to participate in crypto, because I would have been shown to be incredibly naive and susceptible to marketing gimmicks promising me wealth as well as not educated enough in the field to understand things like market cap and real value.
12048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best altcoins with low cap ?? on: September 26, 2018, 06:51:06 PM
When it comes to low market cap coins with promise, I don't think ANYTHING comes close to Namecoin.  I can't wrap my mind around how NMC has a valuation under 20 million dollars while there are so many shitcoins valued 10x-1000x higher.  Reminds me of when I saw Bitcoin trading at a 50 million dollar valuation and decided I should probably get involved...
12049  Economy / Services / Re: LEGENDARY BITCOIN ESCROW SERVICE (More than 19K BTC transferred) - alts too! on: September 26, 2018, 06:36:53 PM
Please follow the very simple instructions if you're going to use my escrow service.  If I ignored your message it is likely you didn't provide enough information for an escrow agreement.

Copy the other trading partner on the message.

Include the BTC release/refund addresses for the trade.

Include the amount of BTC that will/has been sent.

I don't care about US dollar amounts and will ignore them.  If no release address is provided I will assume you haven't reached an agreement with the seller and will ignore the message.  If the other party in the trade isn't copied, I'll assume you aren't serious and will ignore the message.

I get too many vague messages with no information in them and I will be ignoring them going forward.  This process is setup to be dead simple for a reason.
12050  Economy / Reputation / Re: Negative trust for an opinion? on: September 26, 2018, 03:45:10 AM
We don't want a community where people are afraid to state their opinions for fear of retaliation...
12051  Other / Meta / Re: is there a penalty for the merit giver? on: September 24, 2018, 07:15:00 PM
The rules on merit awarding are much stricter for merit sources.

Really?  I've always felt encouraged to give it away to as many legitimate users as I can find.
12052  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2oz .999 Silver NastyFans Minted Seats on: September 23, 2018, 04:22:11 PM

has there been a bug so far? some short circuit or something else?

Not yet.  So far everything has gone smoothly.
12054  Other / Meta / Re: Growing Blackmarket for Merit trading on: September 22, 2018, 01:51:17 PM
People are paying more for merit than a Copper Membership costs? That seems a bit insane to me.
12055  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 7 STOLEN Kialaras - Please keep an eye out on: September 21, 2018, 06:57:22 PM
I read this horrifying story on Twitter. I assume a police report was filed and the authorities dusted for prints. Perhaps you will get lucky and they will capture the perpetrators. Any surveillance video from your or perhaps a neighbor’s security cameras? Were these items included on your homeowner’s insurance policy? While this is definitely an unfortunate situation, perhaps some good could come of it by bringing to light necessary crypto security practices. A bit hard to believe that no neighbors witnessed someone climbing through an upstairs window with a ladder. I hope you’re able to recover them. Maybe the loaded address could be used to track down where the funds went to aid in the investigation?
12056  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 21, 2018, 06:17:42 PM
Please let's not use timing as a criterion for abuse. I often open a bunch of +Merit in tabs and then just submit them all and I'm sure I'm not alone doing that.

Agreed. I too am guilty of batching merit pages.
12057  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: September 21, 2018, 07:54:44 AM
I assume your list is based on awards to the spambies who dropped rank to newbie because they had been unable to earn any merit during the period before the latest rule change. I'd be grateful if you could change the title to reflect this fact, as the current title is a slap in the face to members who try to encourage genuine new members.

You don't need to assume.  The time period is listed.

Members who support newbies (9/17/2018 - 9/21/2018)

I took it as a list of the people who are actively following the below recommendation.

Quote
If a newbie posts something that could be even called good, then give them 1 merit.
12058  Economy / Services / Re: LEGENDARY BITCOIN ESCROW SERVICE (More than 19K BTC transferred) - alts too! on: September 21, 2018, 06:55:07 AM
OGNasty thanks for your help with the cryptokitties.com escrow – i can confirm the domain is transferred safely, pls release the funds to the seller 🙏

I don't typically use this thread for escrow releases, but I guess there is no harm in it.

BTC has been released.  Thank you.
12059  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Charlie Shrem is scammer, watch out on: September 21, 2018, 05:43:38 AM
I always wondered what happened with this. Surely Charlie has made enough BTC peddling ICOs to repay this by now.
12060  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INFO] ALL ABOUT MT. GOX OTP CARD and YUBIKEY on: September 20, 2018, 11:05:58 PM
It took me a long time to finally get all of these together. Search is over Cheesy

Congrats!  Couldn't have been easy getting people to part with these.  I'm still waiting for someone to make me an offer I can't refuse for my mtgox yubikey.
