1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly I'm curious, do I need to pay taxes on Bitcoin income? on: Today at 06:36:46 PM
CoinDesk is reporting that Roger Ver is being charged with tax fraud. This will be an interesting case to watch as I’m sure the government would love to come after anyone who used Bitcoin early on for whatever they can. Tax fraud is pretty serious though and would mean he knowingly lied on his returns. This will be a case to watch for sure.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why you should only hold Bitcoin on: Today at 06:12:51 PM
Regardless of all the great reasons why someone should be Bitcoin only, I think it is a bit irresponsible to have all of your eggs in one basket.  Bitcoin isn't bulletproof (it's not a Cybertruck) and someone could figure out an exploit tomorrow that makes Bitcoin worthless overnight.  I actually think it is even a bit irresponsible for someone to have all their savings in a single asset.  That being said, it certainly happens quite frequently.  Real estate investors for example tend to have all their value in real estate and even leverage it with loans.  Many lost everything in 2008.  If something like that happens in crypto, don't be the guy who went from being a millionaire to eating at a soup kitchen.  Diversify.  It is important for more reasons than just the best possible return.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In Your Country Who Gamble More? Young Ones or Elderly Ones on: Today at 06:10:05 PM
This is probably a good question and I'd be interested in seeing statistics around it.  While I think younger gamblers are probably more likely to yeet their entire savings at a bet based on a feeling, older gamblers not only have more time, but also more money on their hands.  That's why when I walk into a casino, it isn't unusual to see a long line of elderly people in front of slot machines pulling away at that handle all day long.  I think over time, that probably drains a great deal of funds from these people, but I also think a lot of them are on fixed retirements and things where they can afford to lose money all day long.  Younger people may have a little more risk attached.

The Lakers just didn't learn. Cheesy
That's one heck of a perimeter running shot from Jamal Murray for a game-winner. That's not easy, I could tell. No balance, feet not set, and being in front of a defender. He really mastered basketball to be able to do that.
I wouldn't blame them, they know that it's going to happen and Reaves was there to guard Murray but he's just too slippery. The problem there is that coach Darvin Ham didn't reserved any timeout for the last clutch plays like it's needed for those remaining seconds. And he didn't also used some on 3rd quarter when the momentum was with the Denver Nuggets, he didn't cut them off and let like 6+ points to be made by the Nuggets before he finally called it. If there's one to blame, it's obvious but the game's done and as I've said, no blaming anymore as that won't change the results.

With still more than 2 minutes left in the game the Lakers have no timeout anymore. The outcome could be different if they still have a timeout as they can design a play for a 3 point shot and the Lakers could win by 1 point. But you are right, what's done is done, Lakers just not as clutch as the Nuggets as they are only good at the start but always fail to finish the game with a win.

And take note, Murray was not even 100% in that game, before the game he was listed as questionable but he did play and was the hero in the game. The  Lakers players just did the right thing, it only differ on the coaching job.
Yeah, it will be a different story if Coach Darvin Ham have reserved even 1 timeout for the last remaining minutes of the 4th quarter but he didn't. He misused the timeouts, he didn't used it when it's mostly needed and used it when it's not needed at all. Well, that's how he coaches and we'll see that it the end, the Lakers management will have to decide if they're going to reform the team and do some shuffle for their roster or they'd remain intact with the current roster that they have. Because they actually need some help from a big man.

It seems like everyone (at least us old heads) is suddenly talking about LeBron, KD, and Steph teaming up.  This is the first time in 20 years we haven't seen one of those names in round 2 of the playoffs and folks like myself aren't ready to give up LeBron for Anthony Edwards just yet.  We want to see one big splash before those 3 big names drop off into irrelevancy.  So while it is just a pipe dream and Durant is already rumored to be considering a reunion in Oklahoma City, I would love nothing more than LeBron and KD signing with the Warriors this summer.  One last shot for them all.
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Nery For Undisputed 122lbs Title - May on: Today at 06:04:31 PM
I'm a bit surprised there is even a weight class for 122lb fighters.  Maybe that's a crazy thing to say, but I'm not sure how dangerous a 122lb man is even at the top of his game in boxing.  For me to enjoy a fighting sport, I'd have to at least feel like the guys fighting would be some sort of a threat to me in a bar.  I'm sure they're very quick and their boxing skills are on point, but what sort of force are they generating with their punches at that weight?  I think a majority of the people at a random bar would have no problem putting either one of these fighters down, but maybe that's just my ego talking.
6  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why not a USD CBDC? on: Today at 06:00:53 PM
But governments already control their own currency circulation. What difference would making it digital make?

It gives them a lot more control.  They can do things like issue stimulus payments to your account and give them a date when they have to be spent or the money disappears.  They could even start doing this with your paychecks to make sure nobody can save or obtain property.  They could limit your spending by your social score or carbon footprint.  The only thing stopping them from this type of idiocy now is cash, and they're working hard to get rid of that.  It's no wonder they've got Blackrock buying up all the BTC so that people have to use custodial options which can be confiscated.  Make no mistake about it.  Mankind is under attack by big government.  Protect yourself and your family's future.
7  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk features I've wondered about on: Today at 05:58:13 PM
People have brought this up a few times over the years and I believe the last time it was discussed we ended up getting Bitcoin address added to the list of identifiers on someone's profile.  I also added my PGP signature in the event someone felt the need to send me an encrypted message.  I think PGP as an official option would be nice, but it is rarely used so I'm not too worried about it.  I'm sure there are other more popular options than AIM or MSN at this point, but it could become an endless chore trying to keep up to date on whatever service people are using.  Having a blank space you could customize might be nice, but you have to wonder if it's worth the effort.
8  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: Today at 05:50:02 PM
I'm really not surprised at all by the dip we're seeing and to be honest I somewhat expected that we would revisit $52K after the halving.  I still think that's on the table and while I wouldn't trade that expectation, I wouldn't fear it either.  We just had a massive runup from $16K to $70K.  It isn't unusual that people are profit taking and placing shorts.  However, these panic profit takers and short sellers will be the fuel for the next leg up.  It may be a rocky summer, but I keep saying it and I do believe it, that we're going to see this rocket launch in a major way around Halloween.  You're not going to want to be sitting on the sidelines when the trick or treating kicks off.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: Today at 05:45:44 PM
I called all the games yesterday but didn't manage to get a post up so I guess it didn't happen.  Today I'm not feeling too great about the games but with Dame and Giannis facing injury issues I think I'm going with the Pacers today.  I also think the Orlando Magic vs Cleveland Cavaliers game is going to be a close one tonight, so I took the Magic + 6.5.  I'm still happy from last night's games though.  That Lakers game didn't disappoint.  I just wish they could have gotten one more shot at it.  I would have loved to have seen that game go into overtime.

Cleveland Cavaliers - Orlando Magic
Handicap (Incl. Overtime)
Orlando Magic (6.5)

Milwaukee Bucks - Indiana Pacers
Winner (Incl. Overtime)
Indiana Pacers

Odds

So when we go up?  Roll Eyes

Doesn’t look like the Hong Kong ETFs are going to have a massive impact. At least not immediately. I figured we would at least see Ethereum pop a little as it has a smaller market cap and has no American ETF, but I think the fact that it didn’t shows that there may not be much in the way of inflows coming from Hong Kong.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your favorite to lose slot game on: Today at 07:43:20 AM
Sweet Bonanza used to be my favorite slot game. I would never get enough of it, to be honest.  Grin Whenever I joined a casino platform, the first game I would play was Sweet Bonanza from Pragmatic Play. I just love the graphics and the effects and stuff, and I like it when I get free spins from normal spins without buying the feature because in my experience, when you buy free spins, you barely get profit from it so it's not worth it.

If I count the overall sessions where I played the game, I'm pretty sure that I'm at a lot of loss because I have never managed to hit anything big from the game which is why I then stopped playing it because it wouldn't give you any juicy multipliers even when you are using Buy Feature option.

I'm not gambling very often these days, but when I do, I play some random games, maybe slots and maybe other games such as Dice or Crash sometimes.

I like Sweet Bonanza and it seems like it’s one of the more popular games whenever I look at the amount of players playing games. I’ve had a few big wins as well and it’s entertaining. I like the bright colors and cheery sounds. As far as slot machines go, I don’t think they get too much better out there than that.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: Today at 07:41:04 AM
Say what you will about the Lakers, they gave it a good run and it was a great game to watch that came down to the wire. I wish they would have had a timeout left at the end so they could have run a proper play to try and get the win, but rules are what they are with the replay challenges. I wouldn’t be surprised if tonight’s outcome doesn’t spur a rule change.
13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: April 29, 2024, 05:43:49 PM
The day after the Phoenix Suns get swept and they’re ready to end the experiment. Durant is blaming the coach for using him wrong. Beal was a total mistake, and now Booker wants to get traded to the Knicks. I think the Suns are going to be crippled for years as a result of this failed experiment.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul to Fight Mike Tyson in Live Netflix Boxing Event - July 20 on: April 29, 2024, 04:23:06 PM
This is an exhibition match I hope Mike's training is enough to keep up with Jake's lack of experience Jake Paul will rely on his youth and be technical and try to win later when fatigue catches up with Mike.

From what I've read this isn't an exhibition match but an actual real professional fight.  Who knows what the truth actually is at this point, but that seems to be the big news of the day.  That begs the question of who the oldest boxer is to have ever fought in a professional fight all time.  I couldn't find any information about anyone over the age of 58 having ever been in a professional boxing match, so I think after this fight Mike Tyson will be one of the oldest to ever do it.  He does seem in great shape though.  We'll see how it ends for him.  Hopefully with a 30 second knockout of Jake Paul in the first round.

This Suns vs Timberwolves game has been pretty close with plenty of lead changes. All the superstars are having great games. This one is fun to watch. Durant and KAT especially are having great games.
16  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: April 28, 2024, 10:24:31 PM
After a couple of days doing planks with my push-ups I can really feel it in my shoulders. I should probably watch a video on how to properly do them as I wasn’t expecting planks to hit my shoulders so hard. If anyone has any tips feel free to share them. My legs are also sore from doing stairs. Not sure why I’m going so hard with the workouts these days but I’m enjoying it. Can’t wait til BTC hits 100K and we can all celebrate.

Anyone going to be brave enough to share before/after photos?
17  Other / Meta / Re: Post per day/ per month falling. on: April 28, 2024, 10:21:53 PM
After cutting off a large revenue source for users like signature campaigns for mixers it isn’t crazy to think the posts per day would drop. This is why community projects are important for this place and running around leaving people negative trust at the drop of a hat for trying to create use cases is probably not in the best interests of this place.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why you should only hold Bitcoin on: April 28, 2024, 10:20:10 PM
While I believe that Bitcoin should be a necessary part of any investment portfolio, I can’t agree that it should be your exclusive investment. Historically speaking diversified investors have always had more success and staying power than those who put all their eggs in one basket. While I believe in Bitcoin, I’m not mad at anyone who wants to diversify their digital investment portfolio.
19  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2024, 10:18:10 PM
It’s a little weird but the negativity I feel in the market right now is what I needed to finally flip to being irrationally bullish. I think this is a great time to buy and plenty of people will sell to raise cash now with the current global economy, but those who stick with it and wait another year will be handsomely rewarded for their faith.

That’s crazy talk. I like it though. You speak as though you’re talking for someone who sees people as human beings and not citizens of a country. Ultimately I think that’s the right way to think and will be the right side of future. Unfortunately everyone wants the best for their own family, and that means this dog eat dog world isn’t ready for your approach yet.
