.........

See how this discussion got, you started attacking me just because you have nothing to counter argument me, so when this happens, I just let it go, this discussion did not need to get to this level, have a nice day.

Im not attacking you ! Im telling you my own experience ... But for some reason you just can not imagine mining is can be profitable , but you need to understand what to sell when , what mining hardware to buy when ...
Im not attacking you , but you probably dont want to understand i was talking about that 15 months you blaming ... actually 25 months mining experience with Bitmain ASIC's E3's including your 15 months Smiley
This is my own experience as a miner , not someone who reading between lines all over the internet and reposting things in this forum.
So you attacked me , so i got into defense position ...  Grin

I mined ETH from 2016 .. yes i sold some in the end of 2017 Smiley you can tell me i did not make any profit ... i know exactly what i made with mining , even with just a few GPU's in 2016 ...
I wish i got into this when the same thing happened with bitcoin .. i started my bitcoin mining adventure when BTC was around 300$ ...
Im still a believer ... and history repeating itself ... sold some coin again when ETH was over 600$ not to long ago ...

Choice is always yours , but i dont like , and i dont think its right, when someone without any real mining experience trying to be way to smart and attacking someone with real mining experience ...

the real question is how much eth could you have bought over the months when eth was $100 to - $150 instead of running your asics and rigs ? $8000 could have bought 800 eth lets say 700 x 600 thats $420k lol and im not even factoring in shipping.  All hes trying to tell you is u think u make money making what $15k but just buying eth at the lows would have crushed what u made buying those asics x20

asics and gpus are a hobby thing now , the time and effort setting up monitoring shipping etc isn’t worth the reward like back in 2016

while your math above is wrong for buy and hodl then sell . what is true is it is really hard to turn profit with cards or asics.  it is a job when you scale up to and beyond 50+ cards and 50+ asics.

Something always breaks and you need replacement gear.

People think we are having a bullrun mining ⛏ we are not.

We are close to what a miner should  make mining if they want a business.
12082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any news about nvidia 3060ti hash rates? on: December 12, 2020, 02:07:38 AM
I would suggest that you manually set your fan speeds a little high to keep the memory cool since mem temps aren't monitored with 30 series.

and that is bad, is a grave mistake, as long as you know the memory temperature, you can do something about it thus minimizing the risk of a future lost gpu, when memory starts failing then is too late.

3060ti is in.

an aorus 3060ti beautiful card.  One of the few times I felt guilty not gaming with a card.

Toying with it to see if I can get a stable 62mh

I can get a stable 61mh. which seems to be the better choice to shoot for with this card.
12085  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any news about nvidia 3060ti hash rates? on: December 12, 2020, 01:37:42 AM
thanks for info

I have settled at this  for smos

core+10     gives me 1425 reading seems stable
ram +2600 gives me 8100 reading seems stable
watts 125
hash 61.32mh

29 shares no rejects

I will run this for an hour or 2  may try 120 watts next

Yeah did that. 75%

So I have the aorus 3060ti a card that is supposed to be a bit higher quality then the op's I suspect that I am just paying for a cool little programable lcd screen that most likely will only help me when I resell it. I also get a four year warranty with it.

So I have simple miner os.

I set

core + 10  which gives me a         1425 core
memory +2200 which gives me a 7900 memory
watts     125

I am getting 60.27 mhs

580 shares 0 rejects but that counts my 3080 and my 1660ti

179 of those shares are from the 3060ti 0 rejects running 1 hour and 5 minutes.

I will bump memory till I get rejects.

so 125 watts 0 rejects and 60.27 mh

when I drop to 115 watts card is like fuck you

I may be able to drop setting to 120 watts.
I just bumped card to

core set to +10      1425 core
ram set to  +2300  7950 ram
watts set to 125

hash 60.66  no rejects

decided to go higher

core set to +10       gives a 1425 core
ram set to +2800  gives a 8200 ram equals ops highest setting
watts set to 125

62.25 mh   so far no rejects  .  Since I am not sure of peak ram setting for this particular ram I will leave it be. at 8200

getting 62.25 for 125 watt setting makes card a bit nicer then a good and 5700xt

Not a lot but it also has a 4 year warranty which is quite nice.

this rig has

1660ti
3060ti
3080

does 185mh and states in simple mining os it does 452 watts  at the meter it actuating does 412 watts which is really good for 185mh

did a hard reboot and the 3060ti is tossing rejects like mad so a 8200 ram is too high for my card. just like the op's

core+10     gives me 1425 reading seems stable
ram +2600 gives me 8100 reading seems stable
watts 125
hash 61.32mh

16 shares no rejects

So I got an aorus 3060ti

running on simple mining

core = 10
memory = 1800
watts = 130

it gives me 58mh

any clocking suggestions for it?

I asked the mods to move this to alt coin section

I will try to answer this for you in a minute or 2.

4gb cards suck  they won't do eth.

as for raven you are using 970's

not 1070's
not 2070's
not 3070's

so I used all of them and got them to work with raven

I use mostly simple mining  dot net

the newest os from them supports

NVIDIA 1050 / 1060 / 1070 / 1080 / P102 / P104 / P106 / 1650 / 1660 / 2060 / 2070 / 2080 / 3060 / 3070 / 3080 / 3090

all newer cards but he has all his old os for downloading

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.0  ask him if he has an os that will let your cards mine raven
12090  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trying to get rid of some AMD HD gpu series on: December 11, 2020, 05:02:32 PM
I've owned the Radeon 6990 before. Its basically a monster of a GPU. Its dual GPU and I think that beast can pull 600 Watts or so. The guy I bought it from mined actual BTC with that GPU and I've mined LTC, X11, ETH, ZEC, and XMR. That GPU basically refuses to die. Runs pretty much at 90C day and night. Blower fan running at 80% for maybe half a decade and still has good fan bearings.

That GPU and Radeon 7990, are actually limited production GPUs. They are rare and hold decent value. If yours is in mint shape you should hold it for another year or so and some collector will buy it on eBay. Currently the 7990 is going for $200 or so. Which makes no sense since its basically 2 of the Radeon 7970 (R9 280X) gpus which an overclocked RX 480 can pretty much beat.

The rest of those GPUs however are nothing special and you won't get much coin out of them.

as did I mine btc with my my 6990

I'm always amused at if you bough x coin instead of mining arguments.  GPU mining vs investing/trading are not comparable, its like trying to compare bonds to stocks.  The risk is not the same, one generates income while on generates capital appreciation.  GPUs act as a hedge for your mining income, mining becomes unprofitable turn them off and sell the gpu's.  If you have been smart and bought decent gpus at msrp your loss will be small.  I also hedge my mining income, if prices are high I sell a weeks  worth of mining revenue, if prices continue falling I sell more and more until the market reverses.  This way i collect the intrest on my short position and the risk being close  to zero since I generate the funds to cover any advance in price.

There are many tax advantages to mining.

including selling some coin in a good year and buying more gear.  Which lets you have a write off for that year.

or doing a long term hodl of the coins.

You can mine at a loss under usa law 5 out of 7 years.

So if you buy a 1000usd  gpu rig burn 500watts with it or 12kwatts a day or 360 kwatts a month at 14 cents that is 51 dollars in power so for a year it is 600 dollars

2 years is 1200 dollars and the 1000 for the gear = 2200 dollars and you never spend a coin. A lot of people can do this play for 2 years.

Then if shit gets hot you sell the rig and get the same 1000 back. and you laid out only 1200 for power to get the coins. If you have 4 coins after 2 years  and sell 2 at 600 each you have spent 0 usd  to get 2 eth coins.

the down side to this is the coins never go up and the rig goes worthless for mining and worth 300 to 400 for parts.

so after 2 years. you laid out the same 2200. but have a 400 in parts and 4 coins worth 100 bucks a piece. that nets to a 1400 loss.

Hey philipma, or anyone using 3070s

What's the real hashrate and power consumption of 3070?
I'm seeing some videos and comments but some people only tested for some minutes
(people on Youtube only test for some minutes, and didn't show power at the wall, so I'm a little confused here)

Anyone using for a couple of days?
I know it's probably not the same hashrate per watt as 3060ti but I think it will have a better resale value in some months

I have 3x 3080's

today my 1 3060ti comes in

It is all I have in the 3000 series.
12093  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: December 11, 2020, 04:21:44 PM
Well woke up today and my 4GB old rig was down. Decided to reboot it, and it fails when loading the DAG. Apparently #381 is the last dag that works for 4GB under Linux/Ubuntu. So I guess this was the end of the road for the 4GB cards. Bought them in Summer 2016 so they lasted many many years. Only issue I had was dead fans.

I've been watching people talking about this coming death for 4GB cards, but I'm curious - this is because of the DAG file specific to Ethereum, correct?  Are there other coins then you could point the rig at and keep making *something* with it?  Or does it just become obsolete and it's time to part it out on ebay or something?

dont buy 4gb cards. 6gb should be good for next 18 months.

I am going to clifton farm on sunday. I will be bringing the 3 card 1660ti rig home.

even these are selling at a premium on ebay. cards I purchased for under 300 mined for a year are selling for 300 to 339 on ebay.

very soon a glut of 4gb cards will hit ebay.

avoid them. when I bring the 1660ti rig home I will post some photos of it here.

I could very likely sell that rig for 1000 usd maybe a little more on ebay

I usually sell gear here at a discount based on ebay prices.

If that rig could get 1000 on ebay. and if the buyer did not fuck me. I could clear 850 fees and shipping would make it be 150.

If I sold it for 900 here and paid 50 to ship it. I would clear the same 850. but I would ask less then 900.

and less then 850
and less then 800 which would be a bargain at current rates.  since cards alone on ebay cost more then 1000.

and they are sold out everywhere.

So, which cards would you buy right now? I am planning to replace 5 rigs of 8xPolaris cards and will probably downsize in total rig count.

Am thinking to aim for two rigs of RTX 3080s - trying to aim for the same/similar hash-rate.
Now my question is: Which RTX 3080s are best in price/performance? I have a Microcenter around the corner, so hopefully can get lucky one of those days and grad a few to start with, but would love to see, which cards I should avoid.

we have a few of us with them on hand I own 3 of these

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 ULTRA GAMING, 10G-P5-3885-KR, 10GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Cooling, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate

https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=10G-P5-3885-KR

Oem price is 769.99 it is a very good card.

Can I get 100Mhs stable with that one?

I get 95 at 220watts. for last few weeks very steady. I use simple miner.
12095  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My own Experience / Profit / ROI with ASIC Antminer E3's from the past 25 months on: December 11, 2020, 02:48:42 PM
Running a business in negative for 15 months in the hope of selling high later?

More like gambling than business.

It is funny you say this. It is very much like owning a few race horses.  Not betting on them which is gambling.

Owning a racehorse is very very very high risk business.

But if you get a good baby horse on the cheap and the horse wins a lot. you can make millions of dollars.

USA tax law gives a break for horse owners to be a business you need to have 2 winning years out of 7
A normal business in the USA needs 2 winning years out of 5.

The op is talking serious hodl of coin and laying out tons of out of pocket for gear and power to be able to hodl from Jan 2018 to 2020.

Many people can not do this. So they lose.

12097  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining Voltage Converter Overload on: December 11, 2020, 05:38:17 AM
What models of whatsminer do you have?

some have low power settings. that will do under 2000 watts.

if you have a 120 volt dedicated line at 15 amps it maxes at 1800 watts.

and that is not 24/7/365 rating.

if you want to run nonstop a 15 amp line derates to 12 amps

or 12 x 120 = 1440 watts.  tag a 4000 watt inverter and try to run a 10 amp 220 psu and you over heat every thing.

why is that?  10 x 220  = 2200 watts into the psu.

guess what the invertor tries to pull on that 120 volt line 2200 watts.

it may do it for an hour and then something fails.

most volt regulator are cheap garbage 🗑

so to stand a shot you need a 20amp 120 volt line. which does 16amps  x 120 = 1920 watts 24/7/365

and you need to be sure the psu is pulling under 2000 watts.

or hire an electrician and put in a 220 volt circuit = better choice.

I have a working model 1 s-9 2 of 3 boards still mine I got it back in 2016 before the 1/2 ing.

I have a working Avalon 721 I got it back in feb 2016

Both were under clocked and never pushed hard or hot.

All 17 s17pros still work 1 psu needed replacement
17 x 53 = 901 th does 930 th as some work on turbo

my what's miner gear is meh.

20s has bad chips and only does 39th using a lot of power and it burns out psu's
m10 has 2 boards works okay on normal
m10 has 3 boards works okay on low
20s was great it got wet in a rainstorm now has 2 boards still great. the rainstorm killed multiple pieces of gear.
21s was doing only 2 boards at 29th it died in the rain storm.

so
2x 20s from may of 2019 1 was good 1 was meh and would kill psu's
1x 21s from august 2019 was 29th not 50th
2 m10s from dec 2018 five of six boards still work  doing 40th vs 60th

so if all was working they would be doing 250th they are doing 105th

my Avalon
2x 50th 1066 on works 1 has dead psu Avalon never got one for me blokforge never got on for me
3x 30th 1041. one was doa but 2 work fine not sure how the doa died I will blame me or the us post office not Avalon

so I will say 160th is now 110th

2 t17e
1 t17+
3 t17 all good

3 s15 all good needed 1 replacement psu
1 t15 all good

s9's and l3's have been a mix and match for so long I don't remember how to rate them in terms of how they last.

Are you sure that people will be willing to buy these old graphics cards? I doubt they would because there is no reason why any one would want to buy outdated gpu today, they are not even good for gaming and they are high electricity consuming cards, if it's still R9 380 variants it would be better
