A few of you are talking about people immediately dumping or withdrawing it or whatever but I think OP's point is to distribute bitcoin to complete newcomers and people who have never heard of bitcoin.

To me, if they actually end up using it in whatever way possible, whether to dump it on an exchange, for another alt, or buy, or even give it away, then the objective of getting them interested enough to learn how to use an exchange or wallet... is achieved.

OP would have taught someone else to not only fish but seek out that fish.

Bitcoin isn't just about creating holders, it's about getting people to buy into the idea that it ca be used as money or store of value or whatever other use. The use it, it's a win.

Cool! Thanks for the update steve. Hoping I still catch some of the love from my first day at Sportsbet (do you guys have an acronym?). miakhalifa? IG? A completely different world from the one I live in, but let's see if it's public on web IG without being a follower (don't see anything when I check out her profile now)! Share the vid, mitchr4. She a real fan?

P.S. Guys, how do you know when your account gets any of the promo? e.g. free rolls, free bets. You get a notification?
12084  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buy bitcoin in malaysia? on: September 15, 2019, 02:14:24 PM
Two things for the newbie: buy from an exchange (trust a company) or buy from another person (trust an actual person).

I recommend the latter. It's generally called peer-to-peer trading and the platform to do that is Localbitcoins.com.

I'm a trader there, and you can always lookup traders and see their reputations and feedback score. You don't need verification for a very small buy, which you should do to test.

Sign up, and look for:
1. Online buy offers in Malaysia using online bank transfer.
2. Make sure trader is online (green dot, hover mouse and it says how long since last seen).
3. Find a Pro Trader (it will have this mark), or someone will plenty of recent trades and good feedback.
4. If possible a phone number. Most Malaysian traders provide a whatsapp. Contact them first and inform them, and agree you will perform the trade.
5. Pay with online bank, it is instant in Malaysia, screenshot your payment, attach to the trade in message.
6. Wait for the seller to release escrow. Bitcoin is in your account. Withdraw it to your wallet.

Good luck with your first trade, I love p2p like localbitcoins personally, because it's the first real way you communicate with another bitcoin user and it's a great feeling.

Thanks for the welcome, Pamoldar! Nice to see many more familiar faces. You know I'm quite active in EPL and good to see another avenue for more discussion in this thread. Refreshing my page too hoping to see something pop up haha.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have scored, and keep threatening to score again so it looks as if I'm about to lose the first bet on Sportsbet (I had a moneyline on Everton, with their form seemingly better than Bournemouth). At least I get my welcome bonus tomorrow whatever the outcome!

Good point, I believe people who do not have the technical know how, would like an intermediate party to help them and guarantee the safety of their money.

Yeah, there's a lot of consumer rationale that explains why custodial services are so popular but for me the main thing simply is that people are accustomed online now to have a fallback plan to recover a lost password or account. The internet taught us to have passwords, but it also made a way for you to recover them. It needs people to switch to the proper mentality first, and for them to do that, they have to understand the new paradigm of money (or ironically, the original paradigm), which is that you should own your own money, and that means you and only you should have access to it.

Hey guys!
Welcome me, sorry it took so long to arrive. I see familiar faces here (hey SyGambler!).

Now about that post on 1xbet a few posts up? Well about time someone did something about 1xbet, don't know how they survived for so long. I assume they always paid out all affiliates on time and therefore they did a lot of promotion for them. It's still the crypto bookie I see the most on all ads, but it's telling the ads come especially on spammy websites!

Oh and my participation for the T-shirt:
Watford 2-1. First goal on 21st minute.

Keeping my eyes peeled for that drop now heh.

I don't think it's too early, if there are already qualifiers coming up and betting events, why not?

I don't know if anyone remembers but the handing over from the last Olympics to Tokyo was pretty cool, with the Tokyo mayor doing a Mario-esque reception. Football is always a good option for me but I have been following badminton every edition, and since the last two Olympics, a diver from my very own tiny village somewhere in Southeast Asia got a silver (and we didn't even have a proper swimming pool for her to train in!) so I of course follow her every chance I get.

P.S. Cool thread coinlocket! Let's keep the fires burning here!

As usual, the teams I know best are the ones that give me the most joy. We finally have a big winner, thanks again to Manchester City, who gave me a lot of joy last season with Newcastle's shock win.

Teemu Pukki and co proved too much for the big boys from Manchester, and to see their forwards arguing with each other, that was almost as good as seeing the Canaries fans celebrating.

Everton have done themselves proud so far and it's going to be a really tough one but let's see them get a slim away win... and can Watford bring some cheer to their own fans by thumping Arsenal? It's got to be coming, right?

@buwaytress @DarkStar_ You guys have balls of steel LOL to go for Norwhich, a recently promoted team, to win vs the defending champions and one of the best teams in Europe, and at 25/1 odds, oof!! Congrats on the win.

Ok, so Norwhich won and City are shit  Tongue now can we talk about Chelsea? Did anyone expect Chelsea to score 5 against an in-form Wolves? One of the biggest surprises this weekend for me. This win is going to give them a big boost in confidence ahead of the Champions League debut against Valencia next week. Ok, Lampard, I see you...

Thanks! City gave me my biggest betting win when I bet on Newcastle against them, also similar odds so I'm very happy. I remember on Twitter when Norwich broke the news that they had 10 regulars or something out injured, and some fans commented something like: Now, it's going to be a fair game. Little did he know.

Talk about Chelsea, remember when Lampard was given a lot of shit for putting on Tammy boy and then losing 4-0? Well, ask them again now and they're going to take this start to the season for sure. I've never been a Chelski lover, but you got to love any team that puts out their youth.

Wolves are dire though. Their passing is slick and you can see them in Europa killing it but EPL is a different animal and you got to play different.

I wonder if there is any gamblers who place a huge bet amount on Norwich to beat Manchester City in full time, the odds payout on Norwich to win the match in full time is extremely high and I think whoever placed a huge bet amount on Norwich could really start to plan on how to spend his huge windfall overnight.

I put $5 on these kinds of bets, but our very own DarkStar put about $17 for really nice $410 winnings (https://talkimg.com/images/2023/11/16/FmUVZ.png). That's big in my books!
12091  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is anyone here that has referrals on any exchange? on: September 14, 2019, 07:24:44 PM
I've referred people to the exchanges I've used, but no, even if I spent time promoting it, I doubt I'd make much. The ref structure isn't really built to really incentivise it IMO -- and after all I've spent years in my youth trying all kinds of referral programmes (some worked, some didn't none were personally fulfilling).

I will say that some exchanges like Binance gave out a lot of BNB for referrals, and I have heard of people who made not-so-small fortunes when BNB incredibly reached $30 (did it even go higher maybe?). I wonder if that model still works and if exchanges still try it? I'm sure they do.
12092  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I'm a full-time crypto trader. Here're my recent trades & answers to questions on: September 14, 2019, 06:21:24 PM
Indeed it is so. As for the banks and governance stuff.. Probably my grandchildren will enjoy the outcomes but I even not sure lol

Fortunately, I won't (well never say never but I'm somewhat running out of time haha) have that worry biologically, but yeah there are enough in the next generation for me to worry about and I do fear for their futures if they themselves don't take control, hence the reason I'm getting the teens under my care to slowly get exposure to bitcoin, but yeah. I'm not even sure they can enjoy the outcomes, but as much as I am able to prepare alternatives for them, I will.

As for BTC & pension, this is not that general tendency, but it is rather about the USA.

At least for our generation, sure! I'm not sure it can always be so after this lifetime. Things have changed so drastically with monetary structures in the last 5 decades, I cannot imagine what another 50 will look like.

12093  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 14, 2019, 05:06:07 PM
I'm sorry, did I say I was stupid to take 25.5/1 for Norwich? =D My smartest move all season

I know there's plenty of time for City left to score but with the defence playing with all their guts and did you see the buildup to the goal? The skill and verve of Norwich WOW.

2-0 up and I'm dreaming of my first big win... City gave me a lot of money on upsets last season =p Go Canaries GO!

And damn they should have got a penalty!

@tomahawk: 7x for Norwich/Draw is still so good, so whomever took that will be really happy too!

@Harkorede: I think my bookies were a bit better but it was always rapidly going up and down. But 25/1 was the best by far for Norwich at Bitcoinrush.

Edit: oh well, 2-1. I will probably regret celebrating too soon but hey, one can dream hahaha.
12094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Forecasts on: September 14, 2019, 04:05:04 PM

I wouldn't hold your breath.

I think the market will at least build out a respectable Wave 5 to a new ATH like xxxx123abcxxxx has charted before we get another taste of winter. On the higher time frames (like the monthly) this is a raging bull market that's just spent 2-3 months flushing out profit takers and weak longs. The path of least resistance is north. The market is liable to keep chopping around a while, but in terms of the bigger picture, I'd say we're due to start heading north by next month.

Yeah, that's the scenario I'm preparing for, even if inside I still want a really cheap Bitcoin to accumulate. It's bittersweet. Sweet because I'd really use a new ATH to liquidate a stash I have, get out of some personal rut. Bitter because although I was really thankful for last year, otherwise I wouldn't have had a chance to get much, it's still far from the right "club membership" I'd like to be in.

Maybe that ATH will lead to an even bigger winter, then. And maybe the really smart thing is to liquidate enough at the ATH to reconsolidate in the coming winter cycle.

If you and most charters are right about next month, it's going to be a scramble!

@palle1 can anyone really be shocked anymore by this market? =)
12095  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s race to outrun the quantum computer on: September 14, 2019, 01:15:24 PM
Will the change from SHA256 to SHA512 necessitate a whole Bitcoin fork or can this just be done with a normal node update? I am not a developer, so I might be asking a stupid question... sorry.  Roll Eyes

Was a separate discussion I saw just days ago about SHA512 and it would seem to be that changing the hash function isn't as drastic as changing the algorithm itself (which I'm certain needs the hard fork). It seems to me it's still consensus that's required though, so if there were resistance...

On the other hand, if I understood that discussion well enough, there's simply not enough justification for sha512, not enough benefit.

Neither am I (a developer!) so I don't know the right answer to this, but now you ask, I wonder if I should look up how and when forks are needed...
12096  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 14, 2019, 12:33:58 PM
@hilarious I do recall draws getting me a lot of points last season in Superbru and generally I know I should also pick more draws as upsets. Judging from my performance on betting (as I hardly ever pick draws) last season anyway, I would have had a LOT more winnings picking draws or handicaps when the underdog I bet on go for draws -- but the gambler in me wants the whole bag is the problem!

Anyone notice Mo was first to celebrate Mane's goal? And then that group hug hehe. I know it's a little bit for show, but also a reminder that the dynamics between the Terrible Trio have always been that way!

@toke I knew we would recover but it took Firminho coming in to cut open Newcastle. Also just switched over during half time to see Hazard coming in. Is that white hair I see on him? I don't recall him ageing so quickly... the weight of galactico on his hair?Wink
12097  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 14, 2019, 10:43:12 AM
Yeah, Newcastle are a tough, tough opponent, with or without Rafa to guide them. Again no offence to Steve B, but he doesn't belong in this era I have to say if he refuses to change his approach.

Regarding this week's pick, I made only 1 draw I think. I went for broke and selected upsets for almost every game, except Liverpool of course. Depending on how today turns out I might just switch some scores on Sunday games. I never learn my lesson, do I?

I really do feel there are chances for Leicester, Palace and Wolves though! We're talking about 3 teams who either have suspect defences (and I mean United and Chelsea) or over-reliance on 1 guy to score (Spurs).

See you guys later, gotta try finish lunch before the match starts!
12098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 14, 2019, 09:40:30 AM
For the first time, I see the odds are worse for Newcastle to beat Liverpool than for Norwich to beat Manchester City. This is a curious development for me,,, it is generally always Liverpool with less chances to win than City when meeting a non big 4 team. And to me Newcastle is stronger than Norwich. Anything the reason for this?

I wish you were right, but you're not.

A couple of days ago when I surveyed odds after Pep said maybe even Walker couldn't deputise for Laporte in midfield, odds actually went down to 18/1 for a Norwich win, from 20/1 a week before.

Well it's 25.5/1 now (I took a bet on it, silly me) at my bookie.

Newcastle are a good 17/1 to win.

So City are still the clear favourites, even away at a team that can't stop scoring. Also a reflection of how it's tougher to get 3 points against a defensive team than it is an attacking one (the former being Newcastle, the latter Norwich).

Two draws. Very disappointing. So much for Friday night action.

The premier league is back, thankfully. I really can't wait to get the action back on in the club proper!

Liverpool have a smashing match with Newcastle and I'm loving some of the picks available but for now, let's put our regular fiver (at current btc price) on Norwich and Teemu Pukki to upstage the City big boys, shan't we? I know their first choice CB is injured but Pep of course will always downplay his second string but we know they're strong still, so 25/1 is fair.

If we're completely honest and look back at previous bull runs, the price hasn't had much of a brutal crash this year at all. It has been a steady decline we went through so far, so I'm kinda expecting more to come that will shake out weak hands.

I've been expecting further shakeouts for a while, like the low $8,000s or further. Bears are running out of time though. If we don't see a significant breakdown by the end of September, it becomes increasingly likely this is just a time correction......a sideways flag rather than a sharp pullback. I'm still hoping for some buying opportunities in the next few weeks, but I'm losing confidence.

Yeah. I have been honest and not even brutally, and I still insist this crypto winter everyone was using as a label was far from accurate.

I definitely have been hoping for worse. I've always been reading about capitulation and despair but I didn't really see it. Lost quite a few old timers even but when you see the shillers still doing their thing and the Tom Lees still getting a majority portion of traffic then you know the optimism is far from dying.

I do want a purge. I'm ready to wait out a real crypto winter.

Think that's got any proper chance of happening?
