1221  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1.3 TH] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop, instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: July 19, 2014, 01:22:31 PM
Right now I'm getting a security warning from Chrome though saying it might not be the real Deepbit due to a cert discrepancy so that's troubling.

Their SSL certificate expired today, 7/15/14.  Not a big deal.  Wonder if they'll get a new cert?
Hope so...

Me too.  I had expected firefox to allow an exception for the expired cert, but it's not.  They must have updated FF recently to not allow it.  You used to be able allow exceptions for expired and self signed certs.  So anyway I can't connect to the web site at all now.

How does one set up a CPU mining program? Ive been doing all of my bit coin mining personally, with minimum success, get back to me guys thanks!

Your either joking or haven't read this or any other thread about mining Bitcoin with a CPU or GPU.  Which is it?
1223  Other / Archival / Re: Mining pools list on: July 18, 2014, 11:46:12 PM
I am having a lot of trouble getting any of these to work! Every time I end up wasting hours and not making a dime haha, if anyone has any suggestions, please hit me up. Thanks!

If your having trouble with a pool try posting in the pools support forum.
1224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CPU vs. GPU mining on: July 18, 2014, 07:17:21 PM
Can someone tell me, why GPU mining is better then CPU mining?? It's so strangely, i think.

OP, please chime in and clarify if this is a Bitcoin or Altcoin topic?
Honestly, I don't think it's either.  It's more of a general computing question.  I mean, he could have asked, "Why does a GPU render graphics better than a CPU?"

Sure, but if he wanted to know how to make the most of a CPU and/or a GPU the altcoin forum would give him allot better information.  But it looks like he abandoned the thread anyway.

Why does a GPU render graphics better than a CPU anyway?

That is funny Smiley

Edit: Basically what it comes down to for me is this... why "complain" about something that will most likely never stop unless your willing to actually do something about it.

A friendly suggestion with a thorough explanation is not the same thing as a complaint.
A suggestion that may or may not bare any actual fruit because it is just that, a suggestion.

That is often the way of suggestions.  You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink, or so I'm told.

1228  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: changing estimated reward on: July 16, 2014, 10:44:13 PM
Estimated rewards are always based on if a block was found right then.  When a block is found then you know what the reward for that round was, not before.

1229  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happened at block 310853. Somebody get lucky in Montreal? on: July 16, 2014, 03:03:51 PM
Actually it came from stratum. Btcguild.com hosted in Montreal.
http://www.iplocationfinder.com/stratum.btcguild.com

Just because a block tracking site saw it from a certain IP address doesn't mean that was the address that mined it.  Allot of times these sites only see the IP the block was relayed through and not always the block finder.  These sites may be helpful but they are not always correct.

Edit: here is a thread which explains this subject

I had assumed he was talking about Bitcoin mining since he posted his question in the Bitcoin forum.
1231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CPU vs. GPU mining on: July 16, 2014, 01:33:33 PM
Both CPU and GPU mining are a useless waste of time now.  Here is a link for mining hardware comparison.

Ankers work for most but they are 3.0 and will cause pain if you plug in a 3.0 port (zombies and disappearing devices.

I really like the Gearmo USB 3.0 hubs.

Is port 8333 used for something specific on Bitcoin?

That's the port your Bitcon-QT connects to the network with and downloads the blockchain on.  If you block it your client won't work.

The port is not blocked per see, bitcoin client been working for 3 days updating the blockchain and since last night in server mode with cgminer.

Is another kind of traffic detected and stopped on that port, probably malicious, I am contacting the protection software company to investigate,
the only information I got is;

IP: 77.221.153.157 (Saint Petersburg, Zao National Telecomunications)
Port: 8333
Type: Inbound
Process: C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe

Thanks os2sam

The Bitcoin-QT client will establish 8 connections on it's own.  But if you allow unsolicited inbound connections it will establish up to 125 (Default Maximum) connections to the network.  The more connections you have the better chance you have of having your block accepted on the network before a competing block in an orphan race.

My question is, do I have to install IIS to link cgminer to bitcoin-qt?

No.

What does "KYC" mean?

Know Your Customer - Where it would be a requirement by law to collect personal identifiable information from the users.

Thanks.

That would seem to go against the principles of a CyrptoCurrency.

CGMiner doesn't use Com device drivers it uses direct USB.

I had the COM software already installed and saw the COM8 port so I thought it would be good to go.
I use cgminer for the alt coins and it works fine with COM ports, which is why I didn't give it a second thought.
I guess I should have said current versions of CGMiner don't use com ports anymore.

So you must have been using an older version of CGMiner.  The current version doesn't use com ports and doesn't mine alt coins.

Glad you got it working.
1240  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC miner monitoring RPC linux/win/osx/mips/arm/r-pi 4.4.1 on: July 13, 2014, 04:46:40 PM
Never mind. When I tried a different USB driver, it showed-up as a USB device rather than COM device and then cgminer could see it.
It's odd though, normally you use a COM device for Alt coins. Why did Bitcoin decide to use a different interface?

CGMiner doesn't use Com device drivers it uses direct USB.  CGMiner told you to read the readme.txt which explains how to use the Zadig utility for Windoze to install the WinUSB driver.  Has nothing to do with Bitcoin per se.
