1221  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it possible to theorically profit from welcome bonus? Example with stake.com on: September 20, 2023, 04:38:28 PM
I have registered in several gambling platforms and have receievd welcome bonus in most of them but I have not really made withdrawable profits with any of them. Part of the reason, as I have come to understand,  is recklessness as I rarely make conscious effort to follow my rules. Maybe since the money is free, it becomes less of a burden if it is lost.

On the other hand, when I fund with my capital, I follow my rules religiously and many times I do win and make withdrawals.
1222  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: September 20, 2023, 03:08:38 PM
I wanted to convey my message here that gambling in front of our kids may put adverse effects on their growing minds and they may also take the wrong path and start gambling (either by asking you personally for funds or by stealing it in order to fulfill their gambling cravings).
I totally agree with you that gambling in front of our kids could affect them negatively. Even gambling companies have age limits for their customers, this means they understand the negative effect of gambling on children.

It is no longer news that gambling requires a great deal of psychological preparedness which children at certain stage are not expected to have gotten. From experience, kids from loosed families that are exposed to gambling at very tender age grow up to become thieves and this paint a very bad image for gambling in general. So, as much as it is possible, we should protect our kids by ensuring they are not exposed to things they are not matured to handle.

1223  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Health issues associated with the use of computer on: September 20, 2023, 02:16:21 PM
PREVENTION

1. Sit on an adjustable desk (chair) specially designed for the use of a computer to manage stress and other muscle problems.
2. Take frequent short breaks and go for a walk or engage in exercise in your daily
3. Make sure your source of light (the window) is not shining directly on your face or on your computer screen.
4. Tile the computer screen slightly to avoid reflection.
5. Having regular medical examinations for headaches and other associated problems that are caused by the frequent use of computers

With this short health knowledge, we can also stay healthy and live long, and we can also increase our knowledge of using computers. This will not only help members of this community, but we can also educate others.

It is as if you made this post for me... I spend most of my time on computers and I can truly confirm it comes with several challenges. Well, your recommendations are not out of place and one thing I will also add, base on the trainings I have received, is to always ensure there is good illumination when using the computer as the screen light is not enough when working with the computer in a dark place.

Furthermore, siting position is also important as many people sit with their backbones folded. Sitting in such a way that the backbones are straight will make the weight distributed thereby reducing chances of back pain that is common with those who sit for extended hours.

Finally, regular exercise, good sleep and healthy eating habits are also important. In all, thanks for sharing this post.
1224  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will there be a boom again? on: September 20, 2023, 11:50:46 AM
Yeah It's always a question of when but for sure there will another bull running for crypto. This isn't going to be a 'stuck market', we all know it's been volatile. It reached a very impossible all time high back then, not mentioning how many economists said that it won't reach above 20K LOL. But then again we have so called factors to call in the market, crypto has never been as huge as we have it now, so taking another step would take time. If you only wait for the ride, then that won't be very easy you might need your money for personal purposes so I suggest trading crypto with reserves so you'll have rounds when we launch to the MARS.  Cool
Well even though we cannot precisely know when but there are enough historic data to give us a time rage when huge rise in price is expected. Just like everything else, history have always repeated itself for Bitcoin and I don't see it changing, going forward. If you have been paying attention, you will notice that events and activities are already indicating that we will have a huge price action in coming weeks or months. Looking at the charts, the prolonged consolidation is also another indicator. However, it is not clear if there will be further dips before the anticipated bull run, but ours is to keep open mind and prepare for any scenario the market presents.

Honestly, as someone who's been "in to" bitcoin for years now, I have my doubts at times.  I absolutely unequivocally believe in bitcoin and it's technology, but my problem is with the human race, if I'm being honest.  I think that average human is a nitwit, and people don't know a good thing even when it smacks them in the face. The problem with societies across the globe is people get too complacent with status quo, and right now that's fiat money being the only form of currency, for the average human being/government.  I do have faith in the younger more progressive generation, and I do see some chance for another boom, but I just see it as a slightly less chance of happening like it has in the past.
I understand your point completely and it is really a helpless situation. The inertia of society to change is something that have been there time immemorial and it is not going to change real soon.

Fortunately, Bitcoin is gradually gaining the attention it deserve as can be seen by many institutions such as Paypal and Union Bank of Philippines having interest in it. In addition, approval of the Bitcoin ETFs too will help with institutional involvement in Bitcoin and that will create huge inflow of capital and people. We should not despair
1225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is the language here different from what we use in the real world on: September 20, 2023, 09:13:33 AM
Every technology, every profession and indeed every social group have their culture and language and the first step in becoming part of them is to start learning their language. Engineers speak with numbers and drawings, Geographers speak with maps and the list goes on. So, there should be a way of speaking that will resonate with reasonable number of users here.

Like it has been stressed several times, it does not really take too much to start here if you are not frightened by others. Just endeavour to know what Bitcoin is used for and how it differs from other currencies, then try and know how and where to buy, how to send & received and how to protect your assets. I feel these are the basic knowledge... others will come naturally as you continue to interact with others here.

In addition, the forum have various boards that discuss other things other than Bitcoin. There are the local boards, Politics & Society, Gambling and even off-topics. If you put effort, you will understand that the board is well structured in a way that you will always find your interest while keeping in mind the importance of owning Bitcoin.

So, feel at home, don't be scared to ask questions and endeavor to read the suggestions of others... the answers you seek might just have been revealed.
1226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The power of influencials and brand ambassadors, don't fall for it. on: September 20, 2023, 05:57:57 AM
Lionel Messi advertising a particular drink does not mean he must be a consumer of the drink... he is just paid to tell you that such drink exists and how fine the drink is. You  are only required to check if you like and need what they advertised or not. No one will force you to buy what you don't have need of.

He doesn't have to be a consumer but he should be able to know that the drink is what they say it is.
Imagine being the face of an energy drink when in fact the drink isn't an energy drink. They just use your face for marketing strategy.
People like Messi should have their team check out those brands or companies before accepting deals from them.
Are you suggesting that in such a case, the team will take such drink to the laboratory to test if the drink is actually an energy drink? Next Messi advertises a footwear,  the team will have to test the quality of the leather if it conforms with what the manufacturer said it to be?

Well, if you must know, for every country, there are agencies responsible for checking quality and conformity base on their standards.  They issue approvals before goods and services are released to their public consumers.

Big celebrities shouldn't even be promoting what they have no idea about. Aside from the fact that they could be complicit in deceiving people knowingly or unknowingly, it's bad for their image.
That means you are suggesting celebrities should not advertise cars, aeroplane,  alcoholic drinks and indeed anything that poses danger to the users? Like I said before, it is not their duty to check the quality and safety of the things they advertise but that of the government of the country.... there are numerous agencies that check standard and conformity and certify items and services safe for their citizen. The covid19 vaccine was a good example of celebrities advertising something but it is the government that have the power to decide if it is safe for their citizens or not. We don't have to be emotional about these things.

1227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I took a proposal to my State Governor to accept Bitcoin Technology on: September 19, 2023, 10:32:00 PM
Wow this is so motivating! Thanks for this wonderful idea; I have been looking for a way to push for Bitcoin inclusion in our children's education. I guess you just gave me the idea on how this can be achieved. I will try to make this proposal in Rivers State where I come from.... I will try to access the governor through the deputy that happens to come from the same locality with me.

Our students really need to embrace this amazing technology as most of the syllabus are obsolete. Blockchain technology integration into the syllabus will open their eyes to the tech world and also give many of them the opportunity to even start  accumulating Bitcoin.
1228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 19, 2023, 10:07:14 PM
My journey into Bitcoin was entire due to the need to send payment across borders as there was FX and several other restrictions in my country. So, I joined Bitcoin just to use it for cross-border payment without knowing it could actually be a way of creating wealth in the future.

Just recently, I was tempted to check my first ever Bitcoin wallet to see what I have done in the past. I was so depressed seeing the volume of Bitcoin that have passed through my wallet without me saving a reasonable portion of it.

I have the feeling that many forum users too have similar experience; do kindly share just maybe I can feel a little better knowing that I'm not a lone.
1229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paxos recovers its $500,000 'fat finger' Bitcoin transaction fee on: September 19, 2023, 07:08:08 PM
Makes you wonder how a company of such size($2.4 billion as per Forbes) makes such an amateur mistake. Like, probably just having a second person(which I'm pretty sure they can afford) to double check the transaction setups will mitigate such mistakes.
I doubt if a company can make such a mistake, it is really not adding up. No one can send $10,000 transaction without double checking and sometimes checking it several times. Saying it was a software for automatic transaction does not make sense as well because it was not a bulk sending. The only thing that is making sense is that it was delibrate, the purpose of which I do not know.

Makes you wonder how a company of such size($2.4 billion as per Forbes) makes such an amateur mistake. Like, probably just having a second person(which I'm pretty sure they can afford) to double check the transaction setups will mitigate such mistakes.
Weeks ago, it was reported after analysis that it is error from an software which is responsible for processing transactions automatically. I doubt that it is an error but an intentional setup to create some fud on the market.
Rather than create fud, I think this even sound as positive news for Bitcoin and the entire Bitcoin community. It demonstrates the love and transparency that is possible even among Bitcoiners.  The people involved might  just want to be in the news; such news is good for all of us.
1230  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Me and Crypto on: September 19, 2023, 06:48:13 PM
I joined this forum because I was introduced to it by a friend and I also studied this forum for several weeks and finally I decided to join it. I see that I will gain a lot of new knowledge here, exchanging information and that can improve my literacy.
If you are in this forum, you cannot be lost... this is a rich place as regards to information relating to Bitcoin and cryptocureency in general. Since you have already found your way around the forum, just make judicious use of the resources available free of charge and also ensure you guide others who might be lost or who might want to start their journey in this digital ecosystem.

I was not fortunate to find this forum when I started using Bitcoin and other digital assets, so I paid huge price for poor or lack of information. Well, that is in the past as I am better informed now on how to take my finances seriously while remaining safe, all thanks to this forum.
1231  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: September 19, 2023, 03:59:40 PM
Gambling is one of the key problem relationships face. It is even worse when the gambler is not living up to his responsibilities as it becomes convenient for the partner to blame his woes on gambling. As a matter of fact, I have seen females saying they cannot be in a relationship with an active gambler who have refused to stop because they see gambling as a sign of irresponsibility.  Well, I do not completely agree with this but the attitude of a lot of gamblers actually add credence to this claim.

I have always advised that gamblers should imbibe healthy habits that will not make gambling interfere with their responsibilities. Developing a plan that covers the risk, style of play and targets will go a long way in addressing some of the bad gambling habits that send wrong signals about gambling to people.
1232  Economy / Economics / Re: It ain't meant to be easy on: September 19, 2023, 03:33:58 PM
I understand that you are talking about bitcoin here (or at least it seems like it), but for some reason you chose to use the word "cryptocurrency" which seems to be quite misleading if you do not attempt to put your assertion into some kind of context

A lot of people, even the experienced guys, are still stuck in that conjecture and its rather unfortunate.  Like you explained in one of the threads, using the term cryptocurrency to represent all digital assets including Bitcoin without adding some clarifications/distinction could send a terrible signal to the uniformed.

Someone could be swayed to buy into a shitcoin, only to loose his money and blame cryptocurrency for his loss and someone might take note of this, only to resist and criticise any discussion of Bitcoin siting that cryptocurrency is scam as many feel comfortable saying.

I am yet to see someone who bought Bitcoin that is regretting but there are countless number of terrible stories about losses in shitcoins and I posted about mine yesterday when I checked coinmarketcap only to realise that a token that raised over $8 million in sales died and left us with a bag of shit.

So, I feel it is very important we make that clarification when using the word "cryptocurrency"

When you invest into bitcoin, at minimum you should be attempting to develop knowledge about:

1)   your cashflow,

2)   how much bitcoin you have already accumulated,

3)   your other investments (including cash reserves),

4)   your view of bitcoin as compared with other investments,

5)   your timeline,

6)   your risk tolerance,

7)   your time, skills, goals (investment/lifestyle targets, which includes figuring out the extent that you are in BTC accumulation, maintenance or liquidation stage),

8 )   your abilities to strategize, plan, research and learn along the way including tweaking strategies from time to time,

9)   your considering your time, your abilities and whether to trade, reallocate from time to time, to use of leverage and/or to use financial instruments.

These are ongoing areas in which anyone should be working upon without necessarily concluding that they need to perfect all of them or even to perfect any one category prior to being ready to start investing into bitcoin.. whether that is investing with their time, their energies and/or their finances.
This is a helpful information I must admit. My views Actually align with yours in no mean way and I guess you just gave a good perspective that give clarity and direction to explore.
1233  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [QUESTION] Which EU countries are friendly for overseas online betting? on: September 19, 2023, 01:56:04 PM
Romania and Kosovo are home for sports betting as their laws are less strict than many EU countries.  You just need to be a little smart to adapt to the way of life in those countries.

I think bet365 is headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, this would have made UK a good choice if they had not exited the European Union. Other places that could serve as good alternatives include Gibraltar and Malta if you may not like Romania and Kosovo.

1234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin dominace on: September 19, 2023, 11:09:53 AM
Dominance
Let's talk about Bitcoin dominace, it hight time people should divert attention from altcoins not completely though Smiley there will always be a need to but let's focus more on Bitcoin is now as it dominance hitting
 49%to 51%

This data shows that a lot of people are coming to terms with the reality that Bitcoin is the future... it has always been Bitcoin against the rest of them. Gradually, the hype around altcoins is fading away and "water is finding it's level".

I was actually surprised to see Bitcoin dominance rise so significantly yesterday and it simply confirm that the next bull market might come without a corresponding altcoin season like we do have in the past.

1235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UnionBank to offer Bitcoin trading on mobile app in Octomber on: September 19, 2023, 10:56:41 AM
This is good news for Bitcoin. It is now obvious that a lot of institutions are working out ways of embracing Bitcoin as has been shown by PayPal and now Union Bank. In the shortest time, many will join because like it is always said, "if you can't beat them, join them"

Even though this is just in the Philippines,  I'm confident it will expand to other countries. This will surely drive more innovations that will lead to Bitcoin integration into many businesses.
1236  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: September 19, 2023, 10:33:52 AM
It seems that you are getting DCA mixed up with other kinds of investing (such as lump sum investing), because DCA overcomes each of those items in your list because once you get started, then DCA makes it easy to overcome each of the items, because all you need to do is pick an amount.. $100 per week set it and forget it..... and if you think that $100 per week would cramp your lifestyle too much, a different amount could be chosen.
We can determine the amount that can be allocated for DCA needs based on weekly or monthly income, at least an investment allocation of $30-50 can be reached by all economic classes for the lowest amount to realize the DCA strategy per week.
Even though this figures are realistic, to truly demonstrate the power of compounding and little beginning, we could go as low as $10 per week and spread it over five years. This will achieve the same result and the person performing the DCA will not even know he was spending money on anything... his lifestyle, expenditure and everything will be going smoothly, without any financial stress meanwhile he will not even know he is making futuristic investment that can even be his greatest achievement.

If I want to teach somebody about Bitcoin and how to start investing in it, I will simply teach them to apply DCA with as little as $10 per week. Irrespective of the social status or the asset class, this is feasible and affordable and there is high chance I will be able to convince the person instead of telling someone to invest huge amount of money at one.

Like it has been abundantly emphasized here, the DCA method is truly the game changer for those who want to make maximum use of the opportunities offered by Bitcoin, it handles all the psychological hindrances that many people face in Bitcoin accumulation and management.
1237  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: September 18, 2023, 10:24:30 PM
To me, it is a bit unclear what @snowpega is doing since he seems to be DCA'ing and also buying on dips, and there is nothing wrong with that so long as the person doing the BTC accumulating is still going to be sufficiently happy with what s/he had done if the BTC price ends up not dipping down to the expected prices whether that is going into the $23-$24k range or even dipping into some kind of an area that approaches $20k per BTC
I remembered someone commented on this thread that he is using DCA to buy and at this same time, he setup some funds for buying at what he considers as dip... I guess that is what @snowpega is doing. Like you said, anyone following this approach should be prepared not to beat himself up if Bitcoin price did not follow through as they expected.

To me it continues to seem unrealistic to be putting too many hopes into buying on further dips when we are still more than $1k below the 200-week moving average..yet at the same time, there is nothing wrong with having some lump sum amounts that might be on the sidelines and ready to buy at various price points if the BTC price does end up dipping.. It just seems to be a common mistake for newbies to end up holding too much in reserves in order to prepare for dips that might not end up happening
By Newton's Law of physics, a body will continue in it's state of rest or uniform motion unless it is acted upon by external force. This law of inertia also apply to humans in a way. Some people will continue to expect dips and further dips until there is an obvious sustained bullish regime. This is how some people are wired. I do not consider this a defect rather, I see it as a demonstration of our uniqueness.  So, even though it may not seem realistic to you there are those who are convinced that price will dip further irrespective of it being oversold or not. What I have described is not peculiar to newbies, there are conservative old hands who still display this tendencies.

1238  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big surprise in mid-August - Do not panic!!! on: September 18, 2023, 09:37:34 PM
Unfortunately, bitcoin did not manage to maintain its value above $27k today. After briefly exceeding $27.4k, now the price of bitcoin has fallen back to $26.7K, but this is normal as long as many people still trade their assets in the short term.
Bitcoin hitting $27k is already a sign that the bulls are around. If it remains above $26k throughout this month, it will signal that a huge dip in price might not happen. However, we have the month of October filled with not too positive news and that will mark the highest test for Bitcoin. If the promise to repay the stolen funds from Mt.Gox hack schedule to happen next month turn out to be another failed promise as usual, we can be sure that the bulls will register their presence visibly from next month onward.

Indeed, interesting times are ahead and we should keep open mind to all possibilities. The best thing to do now is to ensure we are well positioned for what is coming because it might be another history in the making.
1239  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will reach all-time-high before halving. - BitQuant on: September 18, 2023, 08:03:28 PM
What BitQuant is saying is that before the next halving, bitcoin will reach all-time-high but it will not be the all-time-high before a massive bear market will begin again. That bitcoin will later still increase up to $250000 after halving, which would be the all-time-high.

I know some of you people will agree that bitcoin may reach $250000. What about bitcoin to reach all-time-high before halving? As for me, I do not think so and the
I don't know what his motivation is but I doubt if there is any serious data to substantiate this over-ambitious projections. Personally, I also do not agree with his prediction because I do not see any major news that will propel such explosive move before the halving. Nevertheless, if by chance any of the Bitcoin ETFs got approved, maybe, we can see this propose price trajectory else, I will just take this as another clout chasing.

If that really happens, all Bitcoin investors will welcome it happily and many people will sell their Bitcoin at the price
I doubt that many people, especially the informed, will sell before halving. Why should someone do that? Anyone who held Bitcoin from last you up to this year, only to sell at around $70k before halving does not have solid plans for his Bitcoin stash. Such a person might be those who bought the hype of last bull run and entered around the ATH, so any chance they get to breakeven will be utilized without hesitation.
1240  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: September 18, 2023, 07:18:52 PM
I wasn't surprised when in the end their coach was blamed for what Napoli achieved. Many times I have said that our expectations of Napoli were already created last season, I mean their performance last season is the parameter for us to judge their performance this season. It was also reinforced by the departure of their coach who brought success to Napoli who presented the Scudetto after many years they could not get.
Luckily they still have striker Osimhen because Napoli still retains him. Because if not then the doubts about them will be even greater in my opinion.
As for Napoli, nothing unexpected is happening, I initially said that Spalletti leaving the team would have a significant impact on the team. After four rounds they are 5 points behind Inter, in my opinion everything is clear here, despite the fact that they managed to keep Osimhen they have very little chance of competing for the Scudetto again. And Inter in the last round, with its 5:1 victory over Milan, showed shape of the team now.
I'm not surprised by the poor outing of Napoli especially their last match;  I even suggested the safe bet would be Napoli win or draw because I knew the entire world was expecting Napoli to get the three points whereas the bookies saw something different as depicted in the huge odds given to Napoli.

One danger I see that is looming around The Little Donkeys is that the entire team is built around Victor Osimhen whose injury history is not that great. This season, he already suffered muscle fatigue that took him out for five days. Should he be in any serious injury, which is possible considering his role and pattern of play, then more woes will befall Napoli.
