1222  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Even the official links aren't safe anymore. on: September 26, 2023, 01:47:41 PM
This is the handiwork of hackers. Cointelegraph reported that Huobi exchange have been hacked. According to the report, $7.9 million worth of assets have been stolen. This is another proof that centralized exchanges are not safe for storage of funds. Several posts have been made to show the danger of storing funds in CEX and I guess people are learning and making adjustments accordingly.

Let's hope they are able to arrest the situation before it get out of hand.
1223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: interest in the cryptocurrency on: September 26, 2023, 12:09:21 PM
To make life easier, you don't need most of the fine English spoken by the supposed experts. Simply carve out some portion of your funds you want to use for investment, buy Bitcoin this year and wait for 2024 and 2025 to see what great an investor you are.

Some of these grammar are really not necessary as they mainly apply to those controlling funds of others and are being pressured to return profits.
1224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 26, 2023, 10:48:14 AM
Why do many people like to talk about the past and always wish to return to the past while we still have a future? There is still enough time and opportunity for us to start everything again, and if we really regret the past and don't want that mistake to repeat in the future, then we should act now. Focus on bitcoin and stay away from altcoins.
There is a saying that "those who forget their past always repeat the mistakes of the past". Talking about the past is not a sign of frustration in the process but a way of appreciating where we are coming from, the mistakes and lessons learnt and how to be better positioned for the future.

Besides, there are lots of new members who can learn from these stories and make better investment decisions by avoiding our mistakes. So, the post might actually have achieved the intended purpose

I don't hate people who invest in altcoins because it's their choice and they're investing with their own money, it all doesn't affect me so there's no reason to hate them. But I have also learned about altcoins, so I will focus mainly on bitcoin and believe it is the best long-term investment.
There is no hate whatsoever! Why will you hate someone for making decisions that affects only them. It is their money and how they use it is entirely up to them. The post is only intended to share ideas while the decision on future cause of action rest with individuals.
1225  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: FG'll end corruption in Govt contract---AGF on: September 26, 2023, 10:17:35 AM
Some statements are not only funny but unfortunate.  This is like a tree saying it will cut its roots. How can a government built on corruption attempt to say they will end corruption in public procurement? People that spent billions of naira feeding school children that are locked down with their parents; a country where animals swallow money; a government that claimed to have lifted 10 million Nigerians out of poverty using recovered loots of Abacha?

I know Nigerians enjoy suiting news, so I guess this man is just telling the people what they want to hear even though that is not planned to happen.

I keep telling people that until we get so angry and decide to shutdown the country and reset it, nothing will change. The army will not carry out coup because their leaders are just politicians in military uniform. The only hope is in the streets... the day the street will be tired, then we can shutdown and start the rebuilding process.
1226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin kwoledge is not complete without bitcoin investment on: September 26, 2023, 09:07:26 AM
Knowledge about Bitcoin will be complete only when you can invest in Bitcoin. Even if we get a lot of ideas about Bitcoin or we know a lot about Bitcoin, if we don't invest in Bitcoin, we will not have real experience and if we don't have real experience, our knowledge about it will never be complete.
You are very correct @Patrol69 because investment in Bitcoin is the real application of the knowledge. I remember when I was learning forex trading where I started with demo account (an account loaded with virtual money, not real money). It was very easy making profit and growing the demo account but the moment you decide to go live (trade with real money), the story changes as it turn out it is a different ball game. With real money, reality dawns on you that forex is not that easy and most time one is overwhelmed with losses to the point you begin to think you are under a spell. Those who trade forex can attest to this. So, having knowledge of Bitcoin without actually putting money into it is like this demo trading.... you will never really know the emotional aspect of investing in Bitcoin and how to also gauge your level of greed.

Furthermore, Bitcoin is a very volatile asset.... how will you know the feelings that comes with gaining/loosing 10% of your capital within 24 hours? This is only possible when you commit your funds using the knowledge you have gained. In conclusion, knowledge of Bitcoin is the theory while investing is the practical.

I am saying this from my own experience, before investing in bitcoin I had one idea about bitcoin, and after investing in bitcoin I have a different idea about bitcoin, so a user should invest even if he knows well about bitcoin.
I started with Bitcoin from the angle of usage; I mean using it to make payment only and never saving it as investment. I did this for a while before I realized I could actually be making good money from investing and holding. It will interest you to know that these two  scenarios come with totally different emotions, mindset and approach. While the first part is just knowledge, the second part is investment.
1227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the future of Bitcoin? on: September 26, 2023, 06:59:42 AM
Bitcoin have done so well considering the backlash from the world powers since its inception. As with every revolutionary innovation,  there will always be resistance and it is after overcoming these resistance that the beauty and power will be unveiled. So far, Bitcoin have shown great resilience against negative forces such as ban in some countries, hacks which daint the immage and fud from the media amongst others.

As of today, there is growing interest in Bitcoin, as can be seen from many big companies such as PayPal and Union Bank getting involved. More will come with time and I see this as a sign that the future is bright for Bitcoin.
1228  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do hacks still occur? on: September 26, 2023, 06:23:28 AM
I don't see much changing in regards to hacking... which in most cases, is stealing. Thieves will always exist so the best you can do is to protect yourself however best you can. Centralized exchanges are prone to hacks... people look for loopholes and most times there is insider collaboration.

I  cannot call the case of FTX a hack rather another form of stealing which is eating money that people entrusted in you.

Just be careful out there.
1229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling all about luck? on: September 25, 2023, 08:41:51 PM
Gambling is not entirely about luck, there is a place for skill and psychology. Even though some persons might doubt it, if you don't have the skills and psychology to manage your gambling portfolio, the chances are high that you will eventually get wiped out. Habits like increasing staked amount after serious of losses,  quiting for the day or a certain period after major wins and many others are skills and psychological preparedness that have nothing to do with luck.

Being a good gambler is not just about luck. Luck obviously plays a role in gambling outcomes, being skilled, knowledgeable and strategic can greatly enhance your chances of success.
This is the crux of this discussion.  There is some form of luck but that is not all there is to success in gambling. To be successful and consistent in gambling, you must be disciplined enough to have rules that you miss must follow religiously. These rules will enable you cut your looses while maximising your profits.
1230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Has Changed My Life 👨‍💻 on: September 25, 2023, 06:11:04 PM
I think this topic would have been better in Trading discussion....
Nevertheless,  trading can be a very profitable venture if the skill set is mastered.  So, if you are able to develop a winning strategy, keep it up and ensure you are consistent.  Follow your rules and good luck.
1231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 25, 2023, 04:12:31 PM
If one can turn back the hand of time, and assuming I joined this forum early when I started my crypto journey, maybe the concept of shitcoins would have dawn on me and that would have made me convert those worthless bags to Bitcoin when I could.

I know there are other who would have similar experience too and there are still others caught up in the euphoria of getting rich through one token or the other. Well, if it is not Bitcoin, it is not worth holding.
There have been a few meme coins that did very well in the past, but you are right that the majority of these coins didn't do well at all.
Unfortunately, I have not been involved in any of the meme coins that did well. In my days of Ignorance, I have invested into several of those meme coins,  even some with solid marketing and huge hype yet they all failed. My experience is enough to make me conclude that they are not worth it.

I am not disputing the fact that some would have made money from meme coins, I know few that did.... I guess luck played in their favour.

Still, I always recommended to put 80% of our money in bitcoin and only use 20% for meme and alt coins. That 80/20 split I have seen used by many other forum users.
I think 20% to meme coins is way too high for me. Why will I commit 20% of my investment funds to something I don't believe in.... pure low probability gambling. Even though I will not even give it a thought, I think single digit percentage of investment funds should not be bad. After all, it is believed that meme coins can easily give x100 in profits. Assuming you have $10k to invest and you decide to use 5% of that, that will be $500 investment. If you split this into five meme coins and one of them achieves x100, that will be $10k representing a profit of $9,500. This is huge.
1232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with spam and scam tokens on my wallet? on: September 25, 2023, 01:45:09 PM
Anyone who have been in crypto for a year now will most likely have a share of those scam tokens. I think they have bots that monitor when wallets are dropped in forums,  airdrop website or giveaway threads. If this is not how they get the wallets, then I'm a kind of confused how they get the wallets that they send thousands of transactions at random.

The purpose of these phishing wallets is definitely to steal your funds. Some are even listed in PCS and when you try to sell it, they will gain access to your wallet or drain your BNB as gas fees after you authorise the transaction.

As the blockchain technology is evolving,  scammers are also upgrading their skills because thieves hide under something genuine to unleash their wisckness. We just have to be careful!
1233  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Question that needs an answer on: September 25, 2023, 12:23:25 PM
It will be safer if the Facebook page bear the same name as the forum username. In that case, people will know it is from the same person.

The safe thing to do is to add the statement, " as I have posted in my Facebook page before" then add the link if possible. I am saying this from experience in the academic world... the issue of plagiarism is a serious one and it is not taken likely anywhere. Since the consequences here is immediate, it is good to exercise caution so you don't get your account messed up.
1234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to monitor newly created etherium wallets? on: September 25, 2023, 12:17:05 PM
I have searched for this before and the best answer I got was that "there's no way of knowing when a private key corresponding to an address was generated. It can be done offline. It can be done years in the past".  So,you can only know when the wallet first receive the first transaction, a response in this article also support this.

I will be keenly waiting to see what others have to say too.
1235  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Who do you trust with your crypto assets and other bank details. on: September 25, 2023, 11:15:31 AM
I done see a lot of questions about if I die who go get access to your assets because the problem now is that its even difficult to trust people this days. People you trust na them fit stab you for back but the truth of the matter be say even were bad eggs they good eggs still they so we no go use one person bad habit judge other people own. This days person no they fit predict waiting go happen i they sure say assets they  whey they hang for air just because they no tell person about  the thing done lost be that, aside even crypto assets other assets they whey no get tag or owner so please  lets reconsider and open up to some specific people. So that we no go just work and latter.  our next of kin no go know anything about waiting the person get. And I wan hear other people opinion about this matter we all learn from each other. I see plenty people they fear to share there information he get why.
This topic have been discussed in details in several threads, although in the bigger thread. One example of such is This one where several suggestions have been given on how to transfer Bitcoin wealth to heirs and the next generation. Even LoyceV gave a very good and technical perspective in This thread. I suggest you go through both threads so you understand the contribution that have been made so far in this regards.

I don't know if it is necessary to start the discussion all over again in this local board or perhaps we can give Naija twist to it considering our peculiarity. Well, let me see what others have to say.
1236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin halving and inflation on: September 25, 2023, 09:57:08 AM
Now is the best time to buy bitcoin, and hold, because you don't really need a chart to predict that next year will be a very profitable time to sell because of halving.

I think you have to make the correction that Bitcoin always see a new ATH the year after halving. If you Check your data correctly,  you will notice that Bitcoin made new highs in 2013, 2017 and 2021, the next years after the first, second and third halving respectively. Going by that record, selling next year will be a poor decision to make because there are chances that 2025 will see BTC at an ATH. This is my suggestion based on historic data, it can change anyways.

Despite how halving increases the price of bitcoin to make it more profitable to investors, I'm wondering if it will not lead to devaluing of the currency in every four years? Will the effect of these not be inflation of bitcoin in every four years? I'm quit new in bitcoin, and I might be wrong, but I think that as halving continues to occur, bitcoin value might start to diminish gradually. And will it not negatively affect the purchasing power of bitcoin, in making payments for goods and services? I stand to be corrected.
Rather than cause devaluation, the halving will reduce miners reward and this will reduce the quantity of Bitcoin in the hands of those that are willing to sell at any time for a profit. This reduction in supply will invariably lead to imbalance that will push demand up. So halving will surely lead to a rise in price and  not devaluation.
1237  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Life lesson]Nothing is really free on: September 25, 2023, 09:40:45 AM
It took me quite a long time to understand that nothing is really free, to the least you will be giving away your time. If you don't find whatever you do worthy of your time, don't do it
It is so disheartening that people are growing increasingly lazy and unwilling to think and be committed to something worthwhile. They just want to enjoy easy life without putting in any effort. Unknown to many is the fact that what appears to be free on the surface may actually come with huge consequences.  Scammers hide under this guise to get their victims.

Ppc, faucets and such are waste of time to earn money. If you put the same amount of time in learning some valuable skill you will earn better.
I rarely pay attention to them because I understand that they are 99% not worth the time. I realised this when I was actively participating in airdrops.
1238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin was stolen from Atomic wallet on the 3rd of June on: September 25, 2023, 01:19:37 AM
I am also a frequent atomic user and got lucky nothing was stolen.
But, I have to admit, at the time of the hack I didn't real hold a lot of funds, haha. Lucky for me.
Though there have been times that this wallet contained a good amount of $ of several currencies. If the timing would have been worse i could have lost a lot as well and that's a scary thought for me.
Most of my funds are in my open source wallet, I just had about $10 TRX in my atomic wallet, after the hack I went to check and it was sitting right there. Lucky me, I had to quickly transfer it out of the wallet. Maybe they hacker was targeting wallets with bigger funds. For those who lost their assets, I can only hope they learn from their mistakes and never to store their funds in a closed source wallet like atomic wallet.
I don't know why I always have the feeling that most of these hacks are done by the developers of these wallets. I can be wrong but I think there is always an insider in all these as it is easier for the developers to find any loopholes than an outsider.

That's why I stopped using it until they implement some better security.
If you love your funds, I will advise you stay away from that wallet because this is a very bad signal. One of the ways to avoid regrets is in this digital space is to be sensitive to red flags such as we have seen in atomic wallet.
1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is only Bitcoin and nothing else on: September 24, 2023, 11:35:12 PM
I do get the optimism with Bitcoin ‘coz if it is potential alone, then it has not only the potential but has proven how high its market price could increase. But to rely fully on a single asset won’t be advisable. If you’re into investment for years, then for sure you’d choose to diversify your portfolio. One reason is to lessen the risk due to factors which may affect the market in a sudden; economic crisis, wars, viruses and such. But if you’re that prepared to lose or win no matter what, then such method could work. Problem only arise when an investor isn’t ready for negative outcomes and are just being too positive just because he invested into it.

The crypto market has single rule i.e. whenever Bitcoin is up the alts are up too and whenever Bitcoin is down the alts are down too. You can invest in alts to diversify your portfolio but you will get good return only once Bitcoin goes up. So its up to you whether you want to invest in Bitcoin alone or want to add alts in your portfolio too. To me Bitcoin is sole driver of the crypto market and has the ability to go up on its own. No alt has the capability to go up on its own.
This rule will likely be broken in the coming bull market. Bitcoin dominance is increasing and many altcoins are failing... this means investors are realizing that most of these altcoins are shitcoins. If this trend continues, the hyped altcoin season may never come even when Bitcoin will be soaring. Ofcourse there will be few of the altcoins that will attempt to following Bitcoin but the number is steadily reducing. FTX is out, Luna is out.... these were solid projects yet failed. Who knows the next!

I know a lot of smart guys including the founders of most of these shitcoins are already converting their bag to Bitcoin as that is the only way to have peace. Anyone hoping to go to the moon with a bag of over-hyped altcoin might actually meet his Waterloo
1240  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin For Everyone on: September 24, 2023, 07:39:03 PM
You don already know say Bitcoin na the koko... I no know wetin you dey find again. Abi you dey find insider information of coin wey go pump like PEPE?

Base on say Naija no dey carry last, plenty smart guys don already dey buy Bitcoin to prepare for the next bull run.

If you wan joy, begin dey buy Bitcoin small small because next bull run go dey massive... no go borrow money o!
