12202  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people hate? on: April 11, 2015, 05:17:17 PM
This is a wellknown story:

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all"

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed".

http://www.psychologymatters.asia/article/65/the-story-of-the-two-wolves-managing-your-thoughts-feelings-and-actions.html

But why do we so easily succumb to feed the evil wolf? Why do we hate and feed it and react hatefull towards others?

People choose to follow the evil wolf when they are either struck by a disastrous past (like people who lose their near/dear ones in a tragedy) or for man's worst enemy (MONEY). Some choose it for pleasure as well and that's when they turn cruel towards all. Any trait like being selfish, showing hatred, mocking a person who is injured represents evil and even if the person has not learnt to hate, they react this way as that shows their upbringing or the things they have seen in life.

I don't like such images but it's better to ignore the user whose avatar you don't appreciate and like. I don't think it is NSFW though.
12204  Other / Meta / Re: Cross Advertising on: April 10, 2015, 05:14:47 PM

I dont know why it isnt deleted, as Im the one making this thread and im still seeking for answer,  my opinion is that he is not advertising another sales thread rather pointing out something which is free

by your logic, if you think that if a campaign managers start advertising their campaign in another thread, I have seen the campaign manager of X campaign quoting something from his campaign about quality poster that deserve a better pay rates, and posted it in Y campaign

Not going to quote it, I will not directly either point my finger, but you should know which I am talking about

I have too seen campaign managers doing the same as it is quite immature to say what other managers should do and what they should not. Members have a right to say that they are disappointed but yeah, recommending other campaigns is not the right way as the campaign would suffer due to that. I do feel that campaign managers should just avoid posting in other campaign threads.

Nothing wrong in it and it should not be moderated. If you want such protection, run your own website/blog. You can not expect posting in a free public forum and competitors allow you to run your thread peacefully. In worst case, run a self-moderated thread, but everyone will doubt your intentions then...

It's not wrong but just silly and immature. Hijacking a thread was supposed to be against the rules but I don't know why those threads were not deleted and hence I opened a self moderated thread. I don't bother if anyone doubts my intentions or not as I equally don't find these peoples' intentions sensible. Regarding running my own blog/website, that's my wish what I should do or not do. Thanks for your advise.
12205  Economy / Speculation / Re: panic kicking in, sub 200 by friday on: April 10, 2015, 04:36:09 PM
It has already reached $233 but I am still waiting for a day and then selling it at the bitstamp rate. It won't be a big loss for me though but I am going to be patient and wait for a month to see if it keeps decreasing or increasing. Hoping that it does not go below $230 the next week.
12206  Other / Meta / Re: Cross Advertising on: April 10, 2015, 04:17:49 PM
If it's not allowed, then why such posts aren't deleted? I reported 2 posts on my thread but they are still not deleted:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=867726.msg9659821#msg9659821

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=904704.msg10999641#msg10999641

Because of such immature people, I need to open Self Moderated threads  Angry

As for this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1019714.msg11043156#msg11043156 It is not actually cross advertising as the member is disappointed with the rates while if campaign manages starts visiting other campaign threads and start advertising their campaigns saying that "X is better than Y" that can be considered cross advertising.

Request To remove these Two thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1016058.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=888757.0

Reason: People Are just posting Crap on these thread to increase the post count. They are not going for reasoning.

I was so hurt reading the comments of those people on "Islam hates people". Even if they are or not posting for the campaign, their view about religion and God is so shameful. Sensitive topics should not be discussed like this on a forum.  Cry
12208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is just to complicated for the average person to use.. on: April 09, 2015, 07:53:56 PM
It takes time for people to afford these services/products as I myself owned a computer in 2003 and I took an internet connection in 2005 while I know many people who owned computers in 1990s. Bitcoins are not complicated to use but it needs to get the recognition it deserves. Till it doesn't, I don't see it having a sustainable future.
12209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Really End World Poverty? on: April 09, 2015, 07:49:47 PM
Can bitcoin really do anything to solve world poverty problem? Brian Singer certainly think so. He thinks that Bitcoin can bring minimum everyday earning for people more swiftly than any other economy system.

Is it possible?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/steveforbes/2015/04/02/how-bitcoin-will-end-world-poverty/

No. If stock markets could end poverty then bitcoins would be next. Many people are not aware of the use of bitcoins currently and the price has not reached a level which could gather people a huge profit. With forex, it is possible to earn $100 per day by just making small trades but it's still not possible with bitcoins as you need to buy atleast 10-20 BTC to earn that amount.
12210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We just hit a new record of average monthly transactions per day on: April 09, 2015, 07:47:03 PM
Nearly 1 lac transactions performed in 2015 while only 60000 transactions were performed till July last year. It's a great sign that bitcoin is getting popular but is there any way to know how many people are currently using bitcoins?
12211  Other / New forum software / Re: Few suggestions on: April 09, 2015, 03:02:34 PM

Thanks for the pics. It is good for small threads but have you ever thought how it would be displayed for threads like Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin Price Movement Tracking & discussion

It already looks cluttered up with the page numbers being displayed for each thread. Instead of page numbers, it would be post numbers and I would be more interested in having my post numbers displayed rather than page numbers. It would be more relevant to me as I am searching for new replies to my posts. For the thread you mentioned, it would be a huge list but since there is no limit to the page numbers a thread can have as of now, it would be an issue in such cases. Threads should not cross 100 pages or 200 pages IMO.
12212  Other / New forum software / Re: Few suggestions on: April 09, 2015, 12:15:35 PM

1. That will make it easier. Now I think, "Message age" will fit better if we don't know exact day of the post.

2. I didn't still understand about "post ID". Won't you have to remember the post ID to make a quick edit or delete when you want? If yes, isn't post number enough?

3. I don't know. It was my opinion that feature isn't necessary. There maybe other people who likes it.

4. Sorry! I thought it was enabled by default but I think it isn't.

• Go to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=profile;sa=theme.
• For last feature in that page, "Show quick-moderation on message index as", select "checkboxes" from the drop down list.
• Click "Change profile".

Now you will be able to see it.

2. I mean to say that currently I can see the following results when I click "Show new replies to your posts."

While if the post ID/number is mentioned instead of the pages, the results would appear as:

I hope you get what I am trying to suggest here.

4. Thanks for the steps. Now I can see the checkboxes  Smiley
12213  Other / Meta / Re: Why? My account getting banned on: April 08, 2015, 06:33:13 PM
It looks that you just joined a signature campaign and got banned so soon. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=840124.msg11018608#msg11018608

But anyways, be careful next time while posting as when you are a part of a campaign, your posts need to be constructive and not just 1-2 lines.
12214  Other / New forum software / Re: Few suggestions on: April 08, 2015, 03:15:24 PM
I would like to suggest a few changes for the new forum:

1. Having an Advanced search feature which would fetch results based on the topics created/replies of a particular user. It could also have an option to sort the results date wise and could be customized.

This is already there. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search;advanced.

Searching by date isn't possibile, however, you can use "Massage age" feature to sort according to days and it is enough IMHO even if we have to do a bit of work to check posts in a particular date.

2. Ability to have a post ID reflected in the "Show new replies to your posts." results . For eg: The results would reflect the Subject of the thread and the post ID/s of the user.

Subject and username is already in in, so is there a need for post ID?

3. Notifications via email for a feedback received.

I don't think this is needed.

the delete button of a post to select one or many posts and delete them.

If the posts you want to delete is in one page, you can check the checkbox in top-right corner of your post(after post number) and click "delete selected" in bottom-left corner. If the thread is small, you can use "All" view* to get all posts in one page and delete the posts you want to.

* All view can be done by either clicking 'all' or by appending ";all" to the url. For example, if this thread have 2 or more pages, you can get all pages by going to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1016451.0;all.

1. The advanced search feature should have a date as well like "Yesterday" "A week back" which makes it easier to sort the results and even a Sort option. Many other forums have this feature.

2. I would like to check my posts in a particular thread as now I need to go to a thread, search for my username and click delete or edit or choose to browse the entire thread and search for my particular post. Post ID would help me directly access my post and make any changes.

3. I find it necessary as we already receive notifications of PMs so why not for feedback?

4. I did not find any checkbox. I can only see these options "Quote  Edit  Delete  #1" In case of PMs, I can see the checkbox besides the message.
12215  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Money or Currency on: April 08, 2015, 02:55:02 PM
Bitcoin is mainly a virtual currency and a system of money NOT used by any country. It can be converted into a currency whether USD/EURO which are recognized currencies.
12216  Other / Meta / Re: 'Recruiting' Participants? on: April 08, 2015, 02:51:47 PM

i do not agree....
if a receive a PM asking me to participate to a campaign because i write appreciable posts...
for me it is ok...
i'm in the condition to answer yes or no...
that's all

I guess you have already given your input 3-4 times on this thread and it's your POV. Not necessary that you have to agree with me but I don't want to receive PMs which I am not interested in or don't have time for. I have received numerous pms on another forum where people ask me to join their site and I report all those pms as spam. Here in this case, trusted members who aren't interested in joining signature campaigns and are aware of these campaigns already, it would not be worth sending them a job offer as they are already aware of these campaigns and aren't interested for some or the other reason. It can be surely considered as spam if someone reports them as they did not ask for the same.
12217  Other / Meta / Re: 'Recruiting' Participants? on: April 07, 2015, 07:53:29 PM
I don't think it would be right to PM a person/member who isn't expecting a PM from you. It would be called spamming as he would just be notified about an offer which he has no interest in (may be). If I only talk about this forum, then yes it would be considered spamming. But if you open a thread about a recruitment offer and members reply saying "PM me the details", then they want to be notified about the job. It's not like I am a member of a job website where I get notified about all jobs that match my interest.
12218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: April 07, 2015, 07:20:14 PM
I read some pretty snarky comments on the Bitcoin thread regarding Burt’s arrest and felt it necessary to start a new thread on this subject.  Mocking our family’s situation is in poor taste.  Making fun of our request for help shows a darkness of soul that is to be pitied.  A child’s life has been forever altered because of these events.  This is serious and should not be the subject of gossip or idle speculation or mockery.  I am not a member of the Bitcoin community.  I have been impressed by those trying to help our daughter recover her savings.  I have been shocked by the cruelty of others.  I’ve given everyone the ability to contact me directly.  Many here seem to prefer to gossip than learn the facts.  Micon and one other person are the only two to contact me.

Burt is a trader just like the rest of you.  His is a middle-aged electrical engineer who has been a long time Bitcoin enthusiast and investor.  If Burt needs a business license to trade for himself, then ALL of you need a business license too.

The IRS views Bitcoins as an investment for individual trading, like stocks and bonds.  The gains and losses are taxed accordingly.  If you acquire a federal business license and call yourself a business, then you will need to comply with different IRS rules and regulations as well as state rules and regulations.

The attack on Burt by the U.S. Justice Department is an attack on Bitcoins and the Bitcoin community.  You should help defend your Bitcoin community.  You could easily be next.  Burt was targeted long before the Florida arrests.  Chances are, some of you are already in the government’s cross-hairs.

Why help Burt?  Burt is a good person who has worked hard all of his life.  He always helps a friend or family member in need.  He helps other engineers find jobs.  He has taught Bridge and Biblical Greek to senior citizens to help keep them active.  Over the years our family has made generous contributions to numerous charities including the Red Cross during disasters.  We have both volunteered countless hours at our church (we are Methodist).  Burt served on the Staff Parish Relations Committee for a term.  I taught Sunday school until I had to retire during this school year due to the stress from being attacked and betrayed by our country.  Burt volunteered at our daughter’s school and taught math to 3rd graders.

Since 2004 we have donated over $40,000 to nonprofits.  We are the ones who need help now.  Since Burt is being targeted for investing in Bitcoins, we had hoped the Bitcoin community would help us.

Because of the Justice Department’s attack on our family, we had to stop our contributions to our church, There with Care, water.org, Partners in Health, the Emergency Family Assistance Association and many other charities.  We are still sponsoring a child in Peru even though we really shouldn’t because of the legal fees.  We didn’t want her to suffer because of the U.S. Justice Department's actions against our family.

Yes, our legal fees and costs have reached $200,000.00.  It is an astronomical sum.  It represents our retirement fund, our daughter’s education, and the loan we took out against our home to pay the fees.  We are trying to raise $80,000.00.  Defending an innocent person bankrupts a family.

Ask yourself.  If the government believed you needed a business license, should the government send you a letter advising you to get a license? Or, should the government storm your house, throw you in solitary confinement, bankrupt your family, take all of your electronics and Bitcoins and cash, ruin your thirty year old business and cause financial loss to three Colorado companies?

A notice from the government is the reasonable person’s answer.

Should Burt be deprived of the right to vote, own arms, and volunteer at his daughter’s school because he failed to get a business license for a personal hobby?  Hell no is the right answer.

This case is not about paperwork, i.e., the business license.  This is an attack on the Bitcoin community and Bitcoins.

I imagine most of you on Bitcointalk are fairly young and inexperienced.  Burt is old enough to be your father.  Imagine the government surrounding your father’s house, putting your father in shackles, putting your father in solitary confinement, and ruining your father’s business all for not having a business license.  You too would be angry and demanding justice.

There will be no justice.  The best we can hope for is to raise enough money so that our daughter doesn’t lose the only home she has ever known.  She will always be traumatized by what has happened.  She will never trust or believe in the United States.

Our family appreciates any financial help you can give us.  Our websites are www.burtw.com and www.jmwagner.com

Thanks,

Jean Wagner

I decided to reply to this comment on this thread itself instead of the other one where my comment can be deleted if it is not appreciated by the OP.

@bold: It's inhuman to mock someone who is in trouble and shame on those who are doing so.

@red: It appears as if you are threatening me and others who use bitcoin that our turn will be next. I don't agree with this as I too earn bitcoins but  I work for them and not a single penny comes from money laundering or gambling so I am doing nothing wrong. If any day this happens to me, I would not make such statements. I know you are going through a financial crisis but you also need to be considerate while making such statements. Everyone here knows that we are going to die someday does not mean that I am going to say "You know you are going to die." It sounds quite rude and immature.

I don't know the law but my mom knows it being a lawyer herself and she has said that one cannot share the details of a criminal case online as it can be used against the person.

Also, I don't know how did you lose $2,00,000 as it seems that the amount BurtW traded in was a huge amount. According to me, a person who earns bitcoins and trades in it is like a Freelancer who does not need any license for the same. It's sad to know about this case.

Again, I am not assuming nor considering that BurtW is a culprit or innocent as the court is the one who decides it. Best of luck and God bless!
