12221  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Has the Casascius market panned out how you expected? on: October 13, 2018, 03:24:51 PM
People were paying 1.6 BTC for the 0.1 BTC silver cas coins not that long ago... Obviously premiums have dropped substantially in BTC terms. Luckily, valuing things in BTC over lengths of time is a fools errand due to the volitility.  Using something like gold or fiat would tell the valuation story much more accurately.

At least for me, I thought they were a great innovation and I wanted to own them. Very few people have even been able to build on that innovation today.  I can think of no Bitcoin memorabilia I’d rather own and in spite of the price in BTC terms falling, leading some to ignorantly proclaim losses, my Casascius coins are still one of the top 3 performing investments I’ve ever made.  The only unexpected part to me, was just how valuable they would become so quickly.

While creating rules for bounty managers is probably contrary to the forum’s mission, theymos himself posted asking for more professionals to enter the space, seemingly acknowledging the need for higher standards and better accessibility.

12223  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a Uniform Code of Bitcointalk Justice where user's lose rank? on: October 13, 2018, 03:14:29 AM
Sounds like merit fines that could accompany account suspensions. An interesting idea, but I’m not sure it would be viewed as worth the effort.
12224  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Home mining is dead on: October 13, 2018, 02:02:52 AM
An odd post as winter approaches...  Go ahead and run your heater.  I'll keep mining.  I would agree that if you are mining strictly to sell immediately for a profit, you're gonna have a bad experience.  However, if you're mining to get a higher return from an excess of electricity, willing to wait for the right time to sell, to produce heat, to earn BTC without registering for an exchange, or simply as a hobby to support the network, it is both commendable and profitable.

As I have said several times on this forum...  The most profitable BTC I ever mined, was the BTC I mined when it was unprofitable to do so.
12225  Other / Meta / Re: Should Gavin Andresen be given a better rank on this forum? on: October 12, 2018, 08:51:27 PM
He won't be given one....for political reasons. That is not to say that he doesn't deserve one.

He deserves the developer badge, and he has it. He doesn’t deserve a VIP rank because he didn’t donate 50 BTC to the forum. I don’t think it’s political at all. I’m sure if he donated 50 BTC he would be given VIP status like everyone else.
12226  Economy / Reputation / Re: OGnasty and KWH REMOVE NEG TRUST [ INNOCENT PROVED] on: October 11, 2018, 07:17:31 PM
That’s the thing, it wasn’t a loan. He said he would sell goods and then disappeared once he got paid. After being given negative trust and presumably realizing he cannot get paid for signature campaigns, suddenly he repaid and demands to have his account trust restored.
This is not for the signature campaign, but I just want to maintain a good repo here.

Then you should start with accepting responsibility for your actions.  You continuing to proclaim your innocence here instead of acknowledging wrongdoing will never get you any sympathy from me.

Quote
[ INNOCENT PROVED]

This is a flat out lie.  You are not innocent.  You are guilty.  Understand?  You repaid the stolen BTC, but what about amends?  What about the USD value of the refund?  What about acknowledging that you deprived someone of their funds likely causing emotional distress and potentially turning someone away from our community?  You keep trying to be the victim here, and you are not.  You are the culprit who has wasted now hours of my time and other community members' time with this nonsense, not including the victim's time to bring this scam to everyone's attention in order to see that you are brought to justice.
12227  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Giga-Watt a scam ? on: October 11, 2018, 06:37:41 PM
I'm starting to believe that Dave Carlson and Adam West (Gigaminer) joined forces to scam us with their new company GigaWatt Pte. Ltd. Inc.

Their announcement thread: ⚡⛏️[ANN] Giga Watt: Best Home for your Mining. Starts today!

How many scams are these guys going to pull?  Granted my memory isn't the best, I'm no Sheldon Cooper, but I believe this is at least the 3rd scam Dave Carlson has pulled and the second scam Giga (Adam West?) has pulled.  This is just what I've noticed from being a forum member for several years.  No idea how many other scams they've been a part of.  In any event, why are people still sending these guys money?  Can anyone just do an ICO making ridiculous promises they won't keep and become an overnight millionaire?

I use Blockfolio for iOS. Never tried Delta mentioned above but I’ve seen others say good things.
12229  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democratic Nominee. on: October 11, 2018, 07:14:45 AM
Nikki Haley’s name is being thrown around after her mysterious departure announcement.

Not sure if serious or trying to be funny, but I laughed either way, thanks!

The mystery though!  Cheesy

I honestly didn’t think anyone would notice.

Trade safely! The above posts are just an example of some of the shenanigans that occur around here.

The most bearish thing about the current market is how bullish everyone has become.
12233  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2018 USA Mid Terms! Red or Blue Waves?!? on: October 10, 2018, 08:23:55 PM
Speaking strictly from a finance perspective, it's nice when there's a Republican-controlled Congress.

Stovall of S&P Capital IQ also took a look at the how the stock market does depending upon who controls Congress.
When Stovall sliced and diced the data that way since World War II, the best performance was when the nation had a Republican president with a Republican-controlled Congress.

Maybe you could add a poll to this thread?
12234  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Auction] New Series, Villains of Bitcoin Trading Cards, Corrossive Creations on: October 10, 2018, 07:19:08 PM
For starters, Roger would not return 50 dollars to a user here on the forum years back.  The user had accidentally overpaid for an item and Roger determined that he could keep the money.

In my opinion, he conspired with others to spam the bitcoin network in an attempt to destroy some of its most fundamental functions of bitcoin.

He is a convicted felon in the US for selling explosives

He pledged that Mt. Gox was solvent, he made a video in an attempt to convince others to leave their money there, he stated that he determined they were solvent. Mt. Gox was not solvent.  People lost their life savings.

If you consider the above actions those of a hero, go ahead, that's you.  I am going with Villian.

I wasn't calling Roger a hero.  Although I was around in the days when he was called Bitcoin Jesus for the work he did promoting it early on.  It was more intended as a thought provoking quote in reference to an entire such series.  Certainly not something to start making assumptions over.

You're right though, he is a convicted felon for selling fireworks on eBay.  He also has had a very negative attitude towards Bitcoin Core over the more recent years in it's history that myself and many here do not appreciate.

Good luck to you and Corrossive Creations with your new series.

It’s been a market funded by scams and manipulation for quite some time now. I think newbies are finally getting fatigue of burning their money in pursuit of easy profits.

In the spirit in which the Ross Ulbricht coins were made, I will be donating 15% of the proceeds of RU coin sale. So be generous.

Donating to Free Ross?

Yes, he was addressing to you, sorry for that. Lips sealed

Had a great deal with OgNasty. Would recommend him for escrow deals.

We got it figured out. Glad you were able to make a safe trade. Thanks for choosing to use my services.
