12261  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any Quiet or Silent Miners Above > 400Gh/s on: February 22, 2015, 02:55:39 AM

The C1 will be quite a bit cheaper.

I also want to suggest SP20 or S5 again.  I suggest having a spot to have put miners where sound is not a issue.
12262  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Any Quiet or Silent Miners Above > 400Gh/s on: February 22, 2015, 01:02:09 AM
Most likely C1 is one of the quietest miners I have had as it uses water cooling(Most quit was the asicminer USB's but they are so little power now).  I would go for SP20 or S5 though over it and deal with the extra noise.
12263  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Have American hasher producers surrender? on: February 21, 2015, 09:56:47 PM
The ones that did exist produced crappy hardware OR nothing at all. Bare minimum attempts to defraud consumers. Good riddance. Until a TRULY good one shows up, its better none exist at all.

I'm guessing biggest "american" company was BFL.   And we all know the story on them.

I am happy to get miners from other countries to get quality such as SP or Bitmain.
12264  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining at home vs Mine Hosting? on: February 21, 2015, 08:30:38 PM
Hosting is always a better option, at home its hard to do all the maintanence. But its all taken care of by hosting.

I don't know if I would say this.  There really is not a whole lot of maintenance just initial setup.  If there is maintenance something has went wrong.  The hosting in most cases has same warranty you do.
12265  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: February 21, 2015, 08:24:53 PM
Since they've made exactly one home miner ever. Granted it's a really freakin' good one...
Lets be fair, if it wasn't priced to clear then it wouldn't be nearly as popular compared to S5s

I like both miners myself.  I do think price is important part of a miner.  I don't think saying it is partially based on price is a bad thing.  If anything I give them credit for their pricing.
12266  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: February 21, 2015, 08:22:18 PM
It may be the last miner I ever own.  If diff keeps going> I won't be doing much mining at home.

This is my worry.  I love mining, always have.   The trend of going to big farms seems hard to stop.   I'm hoping we can continue to mine.   Will be interesting to see who keeps selling to consumers and who goes for the big fish.

I hope SP and Bitmain both keep making consumer gear.
12267  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies SP20 - In The Cold on: February 21, 2015, 08:15:34 PM
This is a good review. Do you plan on updating over the next few months as the warm weather
starts again? I'm curious to see how they run during a temp change.

Thank you very much for compliment.

And I would be happy to.  I have them in two different mining areas so should be good comparison.  We just got some snow so still not warm enough to do it yet.

I can say i love the underclock.  I ran full blast till a week ago or so.  But now it made more sense to underclock and get better efficiency.   I also got rid of my S3's to people with less electricity cost.   Lot's of changes going on.
12268  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 21, 2015, 02:07:31 PM
I needed to replace one of the water tubing , so powered down both C1's overnight & bought some new pvc, which arrived after a few days. One C1 powers up ok & starts hashing. The 2nd has a ethernet link light but no ip. Checked dhcp, the default ip of 99 and the static it had previously but nothing. Tried factory reset, the red blinks but no response from http or ping still. Does this have a serial boot console ? Is my only option a SD boot recovery image ?
thanks

I would suggest using a 2nd microSD to do it.  But I  would try the image on it.  If it's just IP problem that will reset it to  factory IP
12269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Script asic miners - Fully liquid cooled 175Mh/s+ rig. on: February 21, 2015, 07:36:49 AM

Trying to see how this will save one money (over typical A2 miners already out for about $1k) at that type of pricing?

They have the estimated power close to a 90 A2.   Is this using A2 chips and they are just liquid cooled?
12270  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining at home vs Mine Hosting? on: February 21, 2015, 07:19:59 AM
It really depends on how much experience you have with miners and also the electricity price.

I think electricity price is huge factor if not biggest.  I personally think 10 cents or less mine at home (assuming you have room).  Up from there do math to see whats best.

Add some things if you do hosting.  Such as shipping and handling to yourself or someone you sell to.   The amount of trust it takes is HUGE.  Make sure to read reviews and look at amount of downtime, quality, etc on the forum.
12271  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: February 21, 2015, 07:15:07 AM
Yeah, by all indications the SP20 is a good little machine. I was really glad to see them make it instead of more industrial rack-mount gear. I hope they keep something in that market sector. Catering to industrial miners kills the landscape.

I'm anxious to see what ASICMiner does with their BE300s. I'd make a sexy home miner out of them if I had the dev time and money. Those guys have always made stuff for regular folks, though only one product ever as polished as an SP20.

ASICMiner was king no doubt when asics were coming out.  But their prisma's did not impress me enough to get one even.   I'm sure some will say V2 is great but I like others right now.

SP20 is amazing on it's ability.  I was running full blast, but now I make as much to underclock and it does a amazing job.

The S5 again great machine.  It was a nice addition  to Bitmain's miners.

I personally am looking more twords next gen SP and Bitmain gear, unless something changes.
12272  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Renting office space with included utilities (electric, cooling) for mining on: February 19, 2015, 08:36:33 PM

Honestly this is one of the dumbest dumbest ideas I've ever heard. How old are you?

Douchy feedback

I don't know if i would say dumbest idea.  I'm not into trowing names.

But most likely they will notice on the next month's electricity or even before as most likely it's not wired for the amount of power your thinking.   Most likely you will have a clause in rental agreement and they can ask you to leave/move equipment.
12273  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Methods of getting free electricity on: February 19, 2015, 08:33:31 PM
I am in the USA. I am wondering what ways there are to get free electricity. For example, maybe certain office leases come with electricity up to a certain amount. Maybe the place i work wouldn't notice or care if half a dozen power supplies were humming away in my cube. How about buying a home that has lots of solar panels just for the sake of hosting miners.....

When i was in college, our apartment rent came with electricity. I am doubtful though something like that would hold up long with the electricity bill was all of a sudden 2k a month.

Any ideas appreciated, thanks

There is no true "free power" someone pays for it.

Really only way is like you mention rent and it includes electricity.   Most rentals do not do this its only common in college/university big apartment complex's.  You could move back in one they cannot make being a student required.  But I doubt it would be worth it as most you pay a pretty penny for the housing.
12274  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Neptune Miner on: February 18, 2015, 04:48:01 AM
Wow $200 For A Th - I never heard of that before

It really depends on the efficiency.  If you look the A1 gear (dragons etc) are pretty low priced to buy per TH now but are very power hungry.
12275  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is anyone really still mining today on a "personal use" scale? on: February 17, 2015, 08:48:32 PM
I still mine a bit for hobby, at a loss, using GPU (Bonus: warms the room in the winter).

Since you have the SP20 and S5, which do you prefer?

I have used both and personally i like both.  I just recently underclocked my SP20's.  They have a amazing range as far as running full speed or underclock.

Sadly for you at .25 on electricity you really need to find a place to host it.  That is just very very high and makes ROI very unlikely.  Personally I like 10 or under for ROI.   But if done right and you sell miner at end you can make ROI at higher, I don't want to mention name but I have seen it done in mid teens on electricity.  But have not seen anyone do math with over 20 that makes ROI.
12276  Economy / Goods / Re: Amateur Radio 2 Meter Yaesu FT-252 on: February 17, 2015, 08:34:04 PM
Cool. I don't have the license, but I sure wish I did. How much trouble is getting a no code licenses?

A lot if caught.   It's far cheaper to take the test (and it really is easy if you study for even a few hours on first test).

Keep in mind a lot area's have ham contests "fox hunts" or other names where they find a  radio transmitting.   So they (or even worse FCC) can find you if transmitting without license.

It could be big fines. Here are some instances of FCC going after people - http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/sed/ulo.html
12277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt Miner on: February 17, 2015, 08:48:17 AM
or the a2 terminator(the old version was better by a long shot)

On this I would say it depends.  I personally would avoid first batch if buying (Unless shown proof of preformance).   The second batches seemed more actually lived up to spec.
12278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: hashra.com asic scrypt.... scam? on: February 17, 2015, 04:55:59 AM
I can understand everyone being upset about what's going on with their orders for the hashra astro.  Has anyone else ordered from shop.lifeforce.info?  I paid for 1 unit on Dec 29th, 2014, and haven't received anything (like everyone else), except for the the updates from Jeff.  I did, however, pay with paypal.  On November 18th, 2014, paypal increased the time frame that you are allowed to open a dispute from 45 to 180 days.  So, even if I don't receive my astro until May 29th, I can still submit a paypal dispute and get my money back.  If any of you ordered from Jeff at shop.lifeforce.info, I hope you waited until after the policy update, or have already opened a dispute to get your money back.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/upcoming-policies-full

Jeff has offered refunds to anyone that has requested them.  I gave him a hard time in the past about the lack of updates, but his last communication was quite sincere.  Based on what I read, Jeff really wants this product to be produced - especially for himself (as he's ordered at least 20 or more).  His view seems to be that there are no alternatives, so this is kind of his last hope for Scrypt mining.

Alternatives -- well there are still A2 Terminator units to buy.  Yes - they are twice as expensive ($900 to $1100) - but they are available, they are reliable and there's no waiting.

The Hashra Astro stats look really good - but if the product doesn't even exist, then there isn't anything better.

I am not relying on this machine - as I don't think it will materialize (unless BTC doubles in price).  I think Hashra may have had good intentions a year ago, but now they are in too deep.

I have a feeling that "Simon" from Hashra is thinking if I can just get some more buyers then I can finally have the unit produced.  Kind of like someone with a gambling addiction.  "Oh - I can pay off the money I lost just with one more bet..."  Bad cycle - that eventually scams everyone.

For the price of $450 -- I just don't see how it can be produced and shipped to the US.  It does not make sense to me.  Shipping has to be at least $100 alone.  Hashra isn't using any new technology, so nothing is shrinking in size.  It has to weigh pretty close to what other Zeusminers or A2 units weigh as it has probably more chips -- some that are under-volted to give the power savings.

I really wish this unit existed -- even at three times the price I'd buy it at those specs.  But the math doesn't compute.

I think your right about it not being there.  I think a new generation of chips are the hold up.   Just a LOT of money to get a new more efficient generation.  Currently A2's had a much longer lifetime then expected as no one has a new chip.  Look at bitmain L1 they did refunds plus some as the profit was just not there.

Also keep in mind how high A2's were priced when they came out.  The price of these miners on hashra leave no where near the R/D budget A2's have had.

If another company comes out with chips maybe they will sell to hashra but it seems no one has shown a working next gen chip so far.
12279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt Miner on: February 17, 2015, 04:47:00 AM
Actually the little Gridseeds are very power efficient,7 watts per 300mh  Wink  They can be run without the fan on all of them, cept the top one when stacking about 4 high.

The problem is you need so many of them to make a decent hashrate total. You'll spend quite a bit on power supplies, barrel plug adapters/cables & USB hubs & cables. All that is overhead that eats profit Cry

The Silverfish 28mh model was about the best I found, but the price is still pretty high ATM on them  Roll Eyes

The quality of A2's is MUCH greater normally compared to SF-28.   The SF-28 also requires a computer to run it's software.  I was able to get closer to 28 with very cold air from a AC pushing at it (Keep in mind it was like a 3k miner at the time).  I believe they made a new version with better cooling (and a case).

A2 is more efficient then the SF-28 chips though.  I would still go for it.  And in most cases all in one miner on A2.
