12261  Other / Meta / Re: auctions without deadline on: April 03, 2015, 01:09:27 PM
Auctions need to have an end date so that the highest bidder gets to take the product at that bid else in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1005469.0 the auction will go on till dooms day  Undecided

I guess the member just forgot to add an end date.

Oh sorry! I didn't knew it was compulsory.. Its until the highest bidder comes on and sends payment to an escrow Smiley waiting for the bidder to come online..
12262  Other / Meta / Re: DDoS on: April 03, 2015, 10:30:53 AM
no.. this forum does not moderate if something is legal or even legitimate.  the only moderation here is whether or not your post was substantial if you had a signature ad in your profile.

One cannot sell illegal things on this forum. A person few days back tried to sell PayPal guides to chargeback and I reported the same along with few other members and now the thread is deleted. You just need to report the thread and MODs will take action. If they don't means the trade isn't illegal.

That thread is discussing about DDos cases I guess with some log files mentioned. The person whose username was "DD4BC" was banned.
12263  Other / Meta / Re: DDoS on: April 02, 2015, 06:40:27 PM
So we may have a downtime again as the attack is still ON? Internet is prone to such attacks and hence such attacks take place day in and day out due to loopholes.

http://ddos-protection-services-review.toptenreviews.com/ This shows that Cloudfare is the 6th in the list compared to Incapsula DDoS Protection.
12264  Other / Meta / Re: Avatars re-enabled on: April 02, 2015, 04:52:21 PM
Avatars are working normally now.

There are a small handful of people who had an animated avatar before this new system. I'm not going to remove those, but if they update their avatars then animation won't be possible.

Excellent. Thanks Theymos. I hope now Mother Mary is visible in my Avatar  Smiley
12265  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk down on: April 02, 2015, 04:19:11 PM

Though I've read that there had been some issues to the avatars back then (and it was one of the reasons why the admin disabled adding one) I still can't figure out why users link the re-enabling of avatars to the recent attack that had happened earlier. Huh

As DDos attacks usually happen when a virus has been downloaded or uploaded to the websites but it's not always the case. Earlier it happened because someone uploaded a virus as an avatar which led to the Ddos attack I read about Ddos attacks here: http://www10.org/cdrom/papers/409/

Theymos managed to recover the forum from this attack pretty soon as I have seen cases where it takes weeks to recover if the attack is a big one.
12266  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: PayPal for Bitcoin [Solving Chargebacks Professionally?] on: April 02, 2015, 03:49:27 PM

Couldn't the blockchain prove to be basically proof of shipping?

No. Bitcoin transactions are anonymous and by a wallet ID/address one cannot prove a transaction as the wallet does not hold any proof like ID card or address proof. Only the IP address is recorded which is not sufficient that you have sent the bitcoins to the person. Xapo uses mobile verification but still it is not a solid proof.

That's why people prefer using Virwox or localbitcoins for exchange. Even Ebay transactions can be chargedback.
12267  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: PayPal for Bitcoin [Solving Chargebacks Professionally?] on: April 02, 2015, 02:33:26 PM
We all know the number one reason why PayPal isn't used in trading Btc is because of Chargebacks. Does anyone know how we can prevent this, say like providing receipts or maybe making someone signs a legal document. I would like to make a site to host these transactions and I would like it to be hole free, any ideas?

There is no way to be safe from cashbacks unless you are dealing with physical goods/products that are couriered or things that can be proved on paper. I don't think for Bitcoins, anyone would provide a legal document for an exchange but if there is any signed document like in case of physical goods where you can produce a courier receipt while selling/buying the product, then chargebacks couldn't be successful.

You can read about it here: https://www.paypal.com/in/webapps/mpp/chargebacks
12268  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk down on: April 02, 2015, 02:23:02 PM
The changing of avatars was disabled due to a hack that exploited weaknesses in the security of avatars. Then when the uploading of avatars was reenabled the forum was DDoS'ed within hours of when the April fools joke regarding the avatars was suppose to expire, allowing avatars to work "properly".

It should be obvious as to what happened.

But Avatars are still enabled. I don't think this was the issue else Theymos would have again disabled it after the attack.
12269  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk down on: April 02, 2015, 01:04:26 PM
It's unlikely. Has the avatar function would of probably been taken down as soon as they expected it to cause any problems.

I just checked Twitter which mentioned it was a DDos attack and so I deleted my post  Tongue

I didn't realize April the 1st is the only day of the year you're allowed to make a joke.

LOL! I know but what if scammers would take your post seriously and start sending their applications to theymos  Cheesy Anyways, I enjoyed the joke  Wink

Yep Obama's signed an executive order, jokes are only allowed on April 1st. Any attempt of humour outside of that day will result in rendition to Gitmo Bay.

I was present when Obama signed the order coz  he considers me his child Cheesy ROFL

Well you still have that doge avatar.

Me too. At first I thought that there is a problem with my ISP, but I can easily load different other websites without even waiting for a full minute. i kept on thinking that there is indeed something wrong with my connection until I asked the guys at #bitcoin. They directed me to a tweet of bitcointalk's twitter handle then there it is, the forum is under attack.

Yeah my avatar has not changed and I also thought the same that it was attacked due to avatars like it happened earlier. It has been 10 hours since that tweet was made but I checked this forum just 3 hours back.
12270  Other / Meta / Re: Account Banned without any reason provided on: April 01, 2015, 06:11:31 PM
It has been 2 weeks since it was banned. I sent email and message to admins but haven't got  any reply yet. Can someone tell me why the ban is permanent ?

I read that account with signatures bans will be able to use their accounts without signature. Can that be done ?

Yeah, your account was permanently banned as there is no message like "14 days ban or 60 days ban" as you have mentioned in the first post. the person who has sold you this account must have been banned twice earlier and unfortunately you were banned once and it was the third time for the account. You can appeal again by contacting the admin after 2 weeks and giving proof that you bought this account.

The rules say:

Q: Why was my account banned?
A: You probably have broken one of the rules. Try emailing a message to the specified appeal email shown in your ban message.

Reference: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

@bold: That's not yet a part of the rule stated in the above thread.
12271  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buyng Bitcoins Instantly! on: April 01, 2015, 04:47:34 PM

Yes I did. That's good info to know though. I had no idea. Is that for advertising a buying or selling trade?

It was a selling trade.

I personally too don't like Localbitcoins as it does not let me open a trade without having 0.4 BTC in my account. I have seen the rates are higher than the market rate.

What? I traded on there last week with 0BTC in my account.

I am talking about listing my trade. They dint let me advertise my trade without having 0.4 BTC in my account and I guess you directly traded with the buyer/seller.

This is the message I get when I try to advertise a trade:

The advertisement is not currently running, because your LocalBitcoins.com wallet does not have enough bitcoins to automatically fund the escrow in the case a buyer responds to this advertisement. You need at least 0.40 BTC and advertisement minimum limit.
12273  Other / Meta / Re: Avatars re-enabled on: April 01, 2015, 04:04:49 PM
Smiley

If you especially dislike the avatar you were given, uploading a new avatar (or reuploading your current one) will give you a random new one. If anyone has any ideas for more "fool" avatars to add, post them here and I might add them later today.

The avatar feature will work properly after April 1.

I am seriously a TUBELIGHT  Embarrassed. I read the above message over 5 times but I am still blank. I don't know whether theymos is going to disable the avatars on April 2nd or this post was serious that the feature will work tomorrow. I don't want to have my current avatar for the rest of my life. Should I remove my avatar?

Edit: I removed my avatar  Cry Cry
12274  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buyng Bitcoins Instantly! on: April 01, 2015, 03:56:13 PM
Virwox is great if you are on a serious hurry but i think its limited to 80 USD the first time and the fees are high...

With regards to fees, yes Virwox is not good enough but even Localbitcoins has a $20-$25 difference in the rates as per the market price.

Are you seriously recommending eBay or Virwox over LocalBitcoins? LocalBitcoins is the best P2P option, bar none. Unless you're using stolen PayPal funds, eBay and Virwox are a waste of time.

I personally too don't like Localbitcoins as it does not let me open a trade without having 0.4 BTC in my account. I have seen the rates are higher than the market rate.

that was just one case scenario of a scammer don't need to panic just for that, local bitcoin as it is now is one of the fastest method to acquire bitcoin and it is decentralized..

Most people seemed unhappy about the website and in case of Localbitcoins, yeah the method is fast but even VirWox is a trusted site.
12275  Other / Meta / Re: Avatars re-enabled on: April 01, 2015, 12:21:17 PM

I'm sure we'll get them soon enough, though you can disable avatars like signatures (though it probably won't stop people from complaining). I was wondering how long it would be before sig campaigns capitalise on this or people start renting/selling them individually:

I don't want to sell my avatar else people will start ignoring my PMs as well  Cheesy I won't be able to even sell my gift cards or exchange money due to that. Selling my signature space is enough  Smiley

BTW, did Theymos actually play a prank? I don't like this man in my avatar. He looks awful  Cry Undecided

I want my "Mother Mary" avatar back.
12276  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTS] BTC for Perfect Money/OKPay on: April 01, 2015, 10:45:50 AM
Why don't you sell it at alfacashier.com ?

Coz I don't trust exchange websites. So many have turned scam. I have been exchanging with members only for a long time and it's safer than websites.
12277  Other / Meta / Re: Avatars re-enabled on: April 01, 2015, 07:27:47 AM
Thanks Theymos. Finally I am able to have my avatar and feel peaceful and blessed. I don't plan to change it ever so I don't mind if it's disabled again  Grin

Now I realized that having so many colorful avatars are disturbing and so we may soon see a post "Disable all avatars" like we have "Disable all sig ad campaigns"  Cheesy Just kidding  Wink
12278  Other / Meta / Re: Email from Bitcointalk "admin" on: March 31, 2015, 09:03:21 PM
It's a phishing attack and don't click on the link. I'm surprised that your email is hidden and still the hacker could send you an email? Did you post your email ID here on bitcointalk forum?
12279  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: PM to BTC, PM to WU, BTC to WU/MG on: March 31, 2015, 08:38:47 PM
I have 0.04457712 BTC in my account. Am interested in a 1:1 exchange. PM me if interested.
12280  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Just found this site for buying and selling bitcoin through paypal on: March 31, 2015, 08:06:09 PM
I'm about to instigate a chargeback on these ***** now.
 Angry

The site was an obvious scam as they did not even try to add more information on their homepage and make it look legit. Now I feel that they aren't sending bitcoins as bitcoin transactions cannot be reversed unlike their PayPal transactions. I hope you get your money back.
