That's a lot of gear Phil.  I might be interested in some cards.  Not the hybrids though.  I've been looking for 3080's but there's like zero stock for them.  I'm sure the 6800's will be the same with limited stock.

Sounds good.  I am going to bed we can talk via pm tomorrow.
12482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining difficulties when Ethereum goes to POS - What are you going to do? on: November 12, 2020, 04:15:52 AM

You think it's worth the time and money to build a new GPU mining rig dedicated to ETH still?

Well it will be worth it if ETH goes to some crazy number like $1000+ a coin. Just like it was worth it mining back in 2016 because you made like $2/per gpu/per day but if you held till 2018, it would of been more like $200/per gpu/per day.

Remember the KNC Jupiter or Antminer S1 miner, the profits were "meh" when they were released however the people that bought those ASICs made a killing because shortly after BTC went from like $150 to $1100.

Now is it worth mining? Well look at,

https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

The hashrate is climbing at pretty high levels, so is the price but the profitability stays mostly flat unless we got those rare days of crazy ETH fees due to DeFI. So might be marginally worth it today, but who knows where the hashrate will be in 3 months or so.

it is a hard call to build a 4-5 k rig.

But if you can get 3x 3080. at 700 each you are at 2100 add 400= 2500 total. and the nvidia 3080 will hold value in case of a crash in mining.  downside it is a 280-300mh rig.

So it's not just me having trouble with youtube ? Keep refreshing and some vids end up working.

philipma1957 : you're older than me so our perspectives aren't the same, obviously. I almost pulled the trigger for a Kia Niro EV (it would have been on top of the Porsche) because Kia had a very compelling offer for a lease, you paid 3000€ upfront then 47€/month for 4 years. In the end I couldn't justify it as I already got a free commute car (through my job) so that would have been too many cars !

YEAH AT 63 burning up the highway is not my thing anymore.

Have to say the the Kia Optima at 90MPH or 145KPH rides okay on the highway.

When I drive to the mining farm early Sunday mornings  I can get to 90 pretty easy and fairly smooth..

The fastest car that I drove often was a 1979 trans am.

I was stationed in Long Beach Ca and would drive to Los Vegas NV

It would do 110MPH or 177KPH fairly smoothly.

In both cases the roads were empty smooth and dry.

Some dust filtering in all cases.

I am not selling out of the usa.

12488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining difficulties when Ethereum goes to POS - What are you going to do? on: November 12, 2020, 02:42:47 AM
I'm in ETH since 2016 and I kinda miss those good old days with 2 mined coins a day Grin. I've started with R390's and R370 rigs.

Today I've one A10pro 500 5GB and still some old 13x RX480 (8GB versions) running - nearly 1GH/s. I'm going to replace them with RX 5700 or 6800 soon.

Here are some specs of the A10pro+ - which is actually a "customised GPU miner": https://www.whattomine.com/miners/126-innosilicon-a10-pro-6gb
With 1300 watts @ the wall their new 720MH/s version is not much more efficient than the 500 MH/s A10pro. Its like 1.9 watts/MH versus 1.8 watts/MH.

You think it's worth the time and money to build a new GPU mining rig dedicated to ETH still?

Boderline.  A lot depends on the deal you make.

A 6 card nvidia 3080 can do just under 600mh if you spend under 4k maybe it is okay.

https://www.innosilicon.com/html/a10pro-miner/index.html.   here is an a10pro 4400 add shipping and trump tax it is over 5500

If you could get the nvidia 3080 at 700 a card (good luck). that is 4200 add 400 for other parts you are at 4600.

I would rather the nvidia rig  at 4600 then the a10pro at 5500.

Eth has been going pos since 2016 it is 2020.

Like I said name a good pos coin that held value for 2 years and paid 5% interest.  I do not know of one.

So I am betting that eth does not go full pos.

Besides I need 70 days to pay off all the gpus I got in July. Grin

12489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BUY 32 ETH on: November 12, 2020, 01:43:05 AM
It is not just a stacking where you will be sending 32 ETH to depositcontract.eth and enjoy rewards. You will have to become a validator and maintain your node alive. This is becoming an obstacle in reaching a threshold number of validators to move ahead on December 1.

The system requirements for a PoS node are quite high. Not every ETH holder has a dedicated computer equipped by a 7-core processor and 8GB of RAM. Investors would throw 529K coins into the ETH 2.0 deposit contract even within an hour, but most of them do not want to validate transactions. PoS miners will be penalized if their node is not online 24/7, so they are currently refraining from sending 32 ETH. My guess is that the launch of the ETH 2.0 Genesis block will be postponed.

yeah as you need more pc then recommended and even with good ups/generator backup you can still lose your internet due to a storm.

So if you stake for Two years and are down for 1 week of the 104 weeks how much punishment happens to you.

I have good gear. But I have had two blackouts. My generator kept my house power going but my cable company did not keep up the cable or the internet. So I lost the net for six days. Even though I had power.

I would never never never stake for 2 years. But thats me.

Btw. show me any longterm stake of any coin that has worked well.

Ie. held its value
and paid 5% interest.

Neither side wants

 C.C.C.

Neither side mentions  C.C.C.

The fact that no one even mentions CCC sad so very sad.

I think no one on btc even knows what CCC is or means

even sadder. As every country in the world needs to push CCC to the max.
12491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 12, 2020, 12:40:26 AM
991 is the Porsche I planned to buy with my BTC someday soon. A used one.

Now I've decided not to spend BTC even for dreams like this, at least not until it's much higher, so I'm looking at a cheaper car, and I'm liking more and more one I used to dismiss, the 2nd generation Porsche Boxter S (987) :

280hp, manual gearbox, can be found for about 20000€. No fear of daily driving it. Paid for with fiat and not BTC, so no qualms about not putting a BTC sticker on the back (original plan, but I figure it's asking for trouble).

Nice photo.

I used some btc to buy a 2020 Kia Optima new .

Color = black pearl my first car 🚙 with black paint job since 1980.

I got a good deal. In late may this year.

My third car 🚙 partially paid via btc.

Stop fighting with each other if a buyer wants them he will buy them.

I can tell any buyer here know your prices.

I can tell any seller here know your prices.

These pcs are over priced for USA but for europe there is vat tax.

do your research if you sell or buy.

Yeah! me.

I finally snagged a card

 Nvidia EVGA 10g-p5-3885-kr

a small mark up

I paid 856

used PayPal

six months to pay.

Got two of the Founders Edition cards for a build for work, through our HPC supplier.
They seem to be getting back in stock but are slightly upmarked. We paid 770 each. Are the founders edition cards also good for mining? Might have to test and stress test the equipment, before we use it Wink

they may sag if you try for 95-100 mh

try for 90-95 mh

set memory freq a bit over stock or stock.
lower core a bit
jack fan to 75%
set power tdp at 70%.

see what it gives you and see if it fades lower after 2 hours.
12496  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Rack Style Mining (AntRack) on: November 11, 2020, 08:27:05 PM
Looks to me like the end of a lot of small mining ops.

It is 3 phase power which is more industrial than 240.
I wish specs got released.

10 k-watts and 500th each?

or 18 k-watts and 1 ph each?
12497  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 11, 2020, 06:52:52 PM
I think we'll go just a little bit over $16k and stay there for a short time, before going back under $16k.

But then we won't stay in the $15xxx land for long either. Maybe a day, maybe less.

Then we'll go into $16k for good.

remember when 16k was a big deal? now its just "meh"

Remember when we couldn't stay above 9k, over and over again?

yes and it was really borderline for me to:

 mine at 7500
 a grind at 9000
I will take these 15000-16500 numbers all day long

Yes as I show above it is decent for a miner but not as good as 13 k was in July of 2019

as I noted in an earlier post
 { https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg55491561#msg55491561 }

the  best streak of above 12,584

was from 2017-12-06 to 2018-01-15  that was 41 days

so 21 down and 20 to go.

This will be a really nice streak to break.

If we stay hot we break the streak on Dec. 2, 2020

so 2020-12-02 here we come.

We also are developing a second streak Nov 1 on is above 13545

we have never had a full month from day one stay above 13000. I for one want to see both things happen.

and we are unfolding a third streak more on that later.

At Torque

"Hey philipma1957, any thoughts on when Bitcoin hashrate will be back up to October levels?"

assuming the hot streak continues 3-5 jumps. this one is +5%

Last summer pre covid 2019 we peaked at 13,000+ a coin and blocks were 12.5 coins and the diff was 9.0t

the diff is now 16.79t

price is 16k vs 13k I am rounding.

so 16.79/9 = 1.8655 harder 2 find a block and coins are ½ so 2 x 1.8655 = 3.731 worse for a miner factor price move to 16 from 13  1.23 better

so 3.731/ 1.23 = 3.03 worse the last summer when we hit 13k  do one more factor gear may be 50 watts vs 80 watts

so 80/50 = 1.6

3.03/1.6 = 1.893 x 1 worse for miner then july 2019 when we hit 13000.

long translation our 16 k price needs to be at  28-31k  for a miner to be doing as good as when we were at 13k last year.

How much pressure is that for upwards price or upwards diff  or both.

Basically your  anti-proudhon movement it the fun part for me to play head games with myself.

This erratic false-bull activity is going to hurt a lot of people who fail to exit now or enter into highly leveraged short positions. Use your science brains, people. Don't be fooled by fake news data.

This is why bitcointalk is great.

So far you are the perfect example of a strong unchecked ego attempting to alter the reality to the one you see fit.

Now in the case of the miners that were going to quit the strong willed miner that led them out of the darkness was a hero.

Will this be true of you in the next 10 years.

Will crypto be crushed and you will have saved a few.

Or will crypto sail past the moon past mars and "to infinity and beyond" a quote from toy story.

I have no idea if crypto will crash and burn in the next 10 years.

I am clueless about that. But I do admire your steadfast attack on it.

Keep on posting maybe you are another hero miner from Chile or a fucking moron who needs his ego to be completely smashed to dust.

Time will tell  if you are a hero or a zero.
