15 April 2013 Update
Quote
Short update today, more to come in the next day or two, hopefully.

We've been working on getting the software and firmware nailed down. Things are mostly stabilized at this point and with our current boards (we do not have the redesigned boards in house yet), power usage exceeds the 1w/GH, unfortunately, but it's much better than anything out by 40 - 50%, at the wall. We are gearing up to start shipping out some dev boards and a few Jalapeno's most likely this week (at least a few dev boards) and then as more chips roll in we'll be shipping out the Jalapeno's. When the new boards land in KC, we'll start shipping Little Singles and Singles at that time. I don't currently have a time frame for those, but I should have something later this week in regards to that.

Obviously, the minirig can't fit 1.5 TH/s in a case the size of what we were planning, but we have some interesting solutions with regards to that. Expect and update on there as well, but I did want to let everyone know we have several solutions to solve the minirig issue and we are moving forward on that front.

I did want to quash any rumors that there was something wrong with the chips; there isn't. The chips themselves are fine (other than using more power than we expected), the delay is strictly due to having to re-engineer the power system on the boards (which requires a larger PCB redesign to a degree) and refine/streamline our processes for getting chips from silicon to mounted on boards. Things will be rolling along soon, albeit a bit slow at first, and then picking up speed as the whole process is optimized and finalized.

Absolutely brutal.

They're still working out firmware issues and rebuilding their PCBs while Avalon batch 2 customers have just been notified to send in their FPGA trade-ins. BFL will not beat Avalon batch 2 for mass shipping and it's entirely possible Avalon batch 3 will ship before BFL ships much of anything. This is another 600+ Avalon units(40+Th), ASICMiner is accelerating it's hash rate deployment on the 22nd of April and gearing up for direct sales of hardware. The worst news of all is that BFL's power consumption looks like it will be around 500% higher than originally estimated(simulated). This means they'll not have the huge lifespan earnings advantage they were originally projected to have.

The most common product ordered by a country mile is the single SC and there's no guidance on when that will ship...six months after it's first shipping date. Orders placed today, may or may not be delivered in 2013, but it's pretty clear they won't be worth much when received by investors.

Take your lumps and get out, these guys do not know what they're doing.
1262  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 16, 2013, 06:43:53 AM
It's insane to see this and then imagine what the price of these coins could be even a year away from now. If this goes mainstream it could be one of the last times they ever reach a low price like this. Can't believe I've got no money to buy some for a while yet. (I know I could easily be completely wrong, have just got a weird feeling about this.)

I believe the price will keep going down for a little while and then explode. Most people are selling so they can buy lower. The day everybody start buying back the price will explode.

This was a much better idea $200 ago.

Quite a ride of late.

1264  Other / Archival / Re: btt on: April 16, 2013, 04:50:51 AM
Avalon has requested that trade-in FPGAs be shipped to them. While we have none of these, this is a sign that they're preparing to ship batch 2 orders.
1265  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: bfl shipped "delivered"(singular) 2013/3/31 on: April 16, 2013, 03:21:47 AM
It appears they're lubing their investors up to accept 6w/Gh/s performance.
1266  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people in USA fear socialism so much? on: April 15, 2013, 05:45:01 PM
I'd say the socialism hate is perfectly warranted. People, especially Americans, like owning stuff.

Like shitty health care plans. LOL

Our health care used to be great. And cheap, too. Until the government stepped in and "fixed" it.

get rid of it then. I mean the gov, yeah.

So easily said...

OKAY  at .007 a week in 10 weeks that is .07 and in 50 weeks that is .35 bitcoin am i correct> or is the .007  a fraction of a unit different then a bitcoin.

You do realize that @ .007 paid weekly with a share price of .84 that equates to a .8333% weekly dividend, a .1190% daily dividend and a 43.4522% APY right? That's pretty respectable in the BTC universe and there's nothing I'm aware of in the fiat world paying anything near that.

We're clearly spoiled here in cryptoland when a 43% return is seen as low. Smiley

funny that your interpretation is I said the return was low. I just wanted to understand the .35 for 50 weeks if it was based on a bit coin or the share price that I purchased it at.

A return of .35 bitcoin for a .84 bit coin purchase is good for a 1 year return.  I would take a .2 bitcoin return for a .84 bitcoin purchase.   each year.

I apologize. I attributed this post:

Wow, are these dividends going to be any higher, 0.007 is pretty low, it's 13-14 months of current share prices

To you and that was an error.
1268  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL silent these past days? on: April 15, 2013, 04:10:06 PM
We've I've been hearing something 'good' every week since January.

I suspect that we will continue to hear good things in all the following weeks from now.

I don't think we'll see any actual progress apart from more prototyping  Tongue

FTFY Wink

We've been hearing good things about this project since last June.
not may?

i thought it was around may when we started hearing good things from them?

It's possible. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt there. They actually took orders in June, so they were already lying saying good stuff then. Perhaps I'm just too nice to BFL. Smiley
1269  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER for dummies? on: April 15, 2013, 03:14:35 PM
Tell that to the people who invested with Pirate?

No thanks. They'd have ignored me anyway, just as they ignored the many people claiming it was an impossible to maintain ponzi.

Another theory: Americans fears most of the world, including socialism.

no, its not a joke. see middle east, terrorist, china, socialism, Kim Jong-un, the list goes on...

The US government attempts to instill fear in it's people to use these things as an excuse for it's actions. Those actions are not in the best interest of the American people, nor are they intended to be.

I'm an American and I have zero fear of terrorists, Arabs, Chinese, Socialists, North Koreans and the list goes on. I DO fear my own government however, because they're capable of nearly anything at any time and they do not care about the laws that are in place to keep them in check(Constitution).

You are in error when you attribute the actions of the rogue American government, running around the globe murdering people(including Americans), to the American people. Most Americans either haven't a clue what's going on or do not support DC's actions. For evidence of this check Congressional approval polls.
own government added to the list.

K, thanks for reading my post...or at least a tiny portion of it. Feel free to completely disregard the parts of it that don't support your own predetermined conclusions.

If you do not fear the US government then you're likely not paying attention.
fear of people not paying attention. Tongue

/troll off
I read your post, and please notice that im talking about americans in general. im afraid of the US government too, and im happy i don't live there.

Really. ...and how do you go about gathering a consensus on how Americans in general feel? I'm actually in America and interact with hundreds of people every week and I do not know anybody that's ever seen a "spooky terrorist" or fears them. Most go about their lives oblivious to the atrocities being carried out in their name. The only indication at all that there's a "war on terror" occurs when one is molested at the airport. That's why I take the train whenever possible, the whole situation would be ridiculous if it weren't so tragic.
1271  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Prediction - ASICs mysteriously start shipping on: April 15, 2013, 02:59:13 PM
When will it start shipping to customers ?

That's easy to calculate at any time. Just add two weeks to the current date.

1277  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people in USA fear socialism so much? on: April 15, 2013, 02:02:56 PM
Many US folks are brainwashed into buying the notion that a good affordable health care system like in many parts of Europe MUST be socialism. Once people stopped thinking to such an alarming level, anything is possible.

If you stop thinking for yourself as indeed many US citizens have, you even fear a fictional monster in a closet or a communist under your bed, who does not exist.

Did you just suggest people stop thinking for themselves as a solution to a perceived problem?
1278  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Why is BFL allowed to advertise on the forum? on: April 15, 2013, 12:55:24 PM
I was assuming there had been some seen in the wild or at ces 2013 but those could be decorated hypothecated rusty FPGA modules as no one has actually seen the chip or the guts of the rigs.

1.5 TH/s Mini rig for around $30k.... really? I've already made up my mind but the moderators would do the community a huge favour by getting rid of their ads if they don't deliver by mid May.

Preferably, also block them and their fake accounts (a quick IP address check would be quite informative) if they continue to refuse refunds after another delay as you are promoting their products regardless if you endorse them or not.

It was an otherwise empty box of fans at CES. The pre-order vaporware product represented at CES is no longer for sale.
1279  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 15, 2013, 12:52:14 PM
I can confirm that feb 2-3 orders are entered in avalon store.

Order #xxxx made on February 2, 2013. Order status: processing.

 Thank you avalon, can't wait.

I assume you mean they're being entered, my feb 3 order is still not there. I doubt I'm alone in this.
1280  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 15, 2013, 12:34:46 PM
iammagicmike,

no, it was not there due to the mess of the first phase of batch 2.

I had a BitPay confirmation only till yesterday when the order was added to my page inside avalon store.

spiccioli

Please don't slander the good name of bitpay by erroneously giving them credit for that total cluster caused by walletbit on Feb 2 & 3.

As mentioned, many of us Feb 2 & 3 batch 2 orderers have never received confirmation of our orders from Avalon. This remains the case for me and others, though Yifu has stated that if you have a walletbit receipt your order is fine.

Feb 2 and 3rd are still not added in. It looks like the later 2nd batch orders are the ones with entries in the Avalon store. I guess this means we will be receiving our units first (2-3 feb)  Tongue

Seems cogs are turning in the Avalon 'machine', my support ticket to get my orders added to my store account (they were missing, but I'd received WalletBit/Yifu email confirmation), was just handled and they've been added.

Great news. May I ask if you ordered on February 2 or February 3? Also, when you say "store account" do you mean here?

http://store.avalon-asics.com/

I'm just trying to get a sense of whether they're going in order and adding those early orders one at a time. I know I submitted a support ticket for my 2/3 order(which has not been added yet), but it was a forever ago.
Ordered 3rd February and by store account I mean http://store.avalon-asics.com/

What number(ish) was your ticket?
#190

Think they're just adding them in slowly.
